From New York Times Bestselling author Emily Goodwin comes an epic second chances love story that will leave you breathless. I’ll never forget the first time I saw Nora Fisher. The way my heart sped up in my chest and blood rushed through every part of me. I was drawn to her the moment our eyes met. She was beautiful. Guarded. Damaged. Just like me. I never meant to hurt the only woman I’ve ever loved. She was light, and I was dark, casting shadows on everything around me. Letting her go meant spiraling back into the darkness only Nora could pull me from. But I’d sacrifice myself a thousand times for her. Four years later, she’s back, and the passion she ignites makes the fight for her stronger. But the more I try to make things right, the more I realize how complicated things have become. And now I'm starting to see that maybe her light was never meant to be mine. **Free Fall is a full length, standalone, new adult second chances romance**

❝ Nora is light. I am dark. Am I a fool for thinking she can brighten my life without me darkening hers? ❞
*3.5 Stars!*
I've seen rave reviews about Emily Goodwin's books in the past so I decided to pick up her latest release and give her romances a try. Fun fact, the models on the cover are actually a couple in real life! How adorable is that??!!
Free Fall is an emotional romance about finding the light when you're surrounded by darkness. Nora Fisher and Jack Harrington both have rough pasts and it's what ends up bringing them together. I really enjoyed the writing in this book and even shed a few tears here and there. What kept me from enjoying this story more was that I felt like some parts were just too over the top for my liking, especially when it came to the romance. There were just unnecessary drama and excuses for why these two shouldn't be together. Like don't make things harder than they have to be, lol. I also felt that this story could've been cut down by a few chapters if it weren't for the drama.
I loved Nora from the start! This girl has been through hell and has lost so much, yet she still has this ability to be so selfless and positive. I was just rooting for her to find her forever home so she was no longer on her own. I didn't quite connect with Jack as much as I would've liked. I can't put my finger on it, but there was just something missing for me when it came to his character. I did like how Jack's PTSD was handled. It was accurately portrayed and I appreciated the fact that there wasn't a "quick fix" to his trauma. Instead, Jack and Nora work together to help him deal with his PTSD in a healthy manner and take things day by day. While there were some things about Free Fall that I didn't like, I'll definitely be reading more of Goodwin's books in the future. Hopefully those will end up being more of a hit.
One of the best books I've read this year. I can not even say how much I loved this story. The characters, the conversations between them - this palpable love. I am so happy I found this author because she can be a sweetheart in real life with big heart if she can make a story like this. Aww!! I love everything about this one.
I stayed up way past my bedtime (4AM ) devouring FREE FALL! It’s so good you guys with so much push & pull and enough baggage these teenagers endure that it just breaks your heart. BUT their love story is so Beautiful ! Go take a FREE FALL on Jack & Nora this is my favorite book that I have read so far this year! I thought this book was going to possibly be a military romance based on the Excerpt Reveal last month (HERE), but I was so wrong!
Free Fall was a sweet, sexy, heartbreaking, and emotional standalone contemporary romance, and I absolutely loved it! The storyline and characters were amazing, and I loved Emily Goodwin's writing style. Free Fall was my second novel from Ms. Goodwin, my first was One Call Away, and it was definitely one of my favorites. I'll be honest, I loved One Call Away more, but Free Fall was still amazing in its own right, and I loved reading it from beginning to end.
Jack and Nora were phenomenal and I loved them and their story so much. I loved their personalities and red-hot chemistry together, and how their relationship progressed throughout. I loved reading the book from both Jack and Nora's POV, and all of their banter and interactions with each other. Jack and Nora's journey was unexpected in a lot of ways and more emotional than I anticipated, but I truly enjoyed every minute of it. There were a few things that I didn't like as much, but there were also a lot that I loved, and I'm so glad that I read their story. Free Fall was amazing, unique, and memorable from start to finish, and I was very happy with the conclusion to Jack and Nora's story.
Free Fall was a sweet, sexy, heartbreaking, and emotional standalone contemporary romance, and I would highly recommend it! Emily Goodwin did a fantastic job with this book, and I was extremely pleased with the outcome to Jack and Nora's story. Emily Goodwin is a fairly new author to me, but I have loved the two books I've read from her so far, and I can't wait to devour more!
I just absolutely loved this book. A wonderfully woven story of teenage love with a second chance. Both Jack and Nora are broken in different ways. They immediately connect and help each other. The book is dual POV. The story flows seamlessly from the past to the present. No confusion or unnecessary points. I just can't express in the right words how much I love this story. Emily Goodwin is one of my most favorite authors and she does not disappoint with this book.
I was anxiously awaiting this book. I love second chance romances and this was full of angst, heartbreak, Love and deep connections.
Jack was such a broody guy, once I found out why I was just in awe of him. His self sacrifice was just astounding.
Nora, wow! For someone so young at the start of the story, she had to endure so much and to grow into this incredible young woman; what makes this so interesting, is that this is something that could happen, if not, has happened in real life.
Ms. Goodwin had again been able to bring to life two people who are damaged, just surviving in their lives to then get them to point that they are living to just live.
This was a really sweet story! I loved the characters and the unique situations that made them more complex. The steamy scenes were super hot, there was a little bit of humor, a lot of angst, a cute dog, family and people who become family. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by this author.
***I spent the last year feeling trapped inside a living nightmare. When I’m with her, I feel like I’m falling, but I also feel free.
Jack is right. He is trapped in a living nightmare. His past haunts him, he feels he is drowning in darkness. And most days, he is. Until he meets Nora. She’s his little bit of shining light and he will do anything to keep his light in the darkness.
But when his burdens becane too much, he was afraid his darkness would overshadow her light. And he broke her heart.
This story had me in tears at a few parts. What Jack went through was devistating. Horrific and would thrust anyone into darkness. I hurt for him. And for. Ora as well, she didn’t have the best life either after loosing her parents. Someone these two broken souls find a way to make each other’s burdens a little easier to bear. Light forcing the darkness away.
This was a good second chance romance and I enjoyed getting to know these characters and watching them overcome the demons that haunt them.
There is always a beautiful light after the darkness.
Nora has lost everyone she has ever loved and most days she feels lost and all alone. Her grandmother may still be here, but she is spending her last days in a nursing home. A place she would never have wanted to be. Life is just not fair. She likes her foster family but she knows it is only temporary, and then what will happen to her? For now, she spends her time in the backyard treehouse listening to Tom Petty on her iPod and reading paranormal books on her Kindle. The only bright spot is Jack, the hot guy who lives next door. She is friends with his sister Veronica, and he drives them to school each morning. The moment their eyes first met she knew he was in as much pain as she was. She felt the immediate need to comfort him. Nora hopes that she can be what Jack needs to bring him back from the emptiness that she sees in his eyes. Maybe he can do the same for her.
Jack’s days are filled with loneliness, hopelessness and frustration. He can’t sleep at night and refuses to take the sleeping pills that his doctor prescribed for him because he hates the way they make him feel. The nightmares are never ending and have taken over his life. He goes to school, meets with his counselor, attends football practice and returns home to his family, who smother him with love but they can’t take away the pain. He thought no one would ever understand him but when he met Nora, he could see the pain in her eyes that he feels in his heart. He looks forward to driving her to school because just being in her presence relaxes him and her beautiful smile helps him get through his day. Jack knows that Nora has her own demons and he wants to be there for her as she adjusts to her new life. Maybe they can be what each other needs to spend every day in the light.
Will Nora accept her new family and allow them to comfort her and take care of her? How will her feelings for Jack affect her life going forward?
Will Jack allow his nightmares to push Nora away? What happened to Jack that he feels unworthy of Nora’s love?
Emily Goodwin is one of my favorite authors and she has given us another outstanding story with her new book, “Free Fall.” You will never forget Nora and Jack’s journey and how their love survived every obstacle that they encountered. This book is emotional, passionate and full of hope, and I am certain that everyone will love it as much as I do.
First off I had absolutely no idea as to what Free Fall was about. I didn't need to know as I am already a fan of Ms. Goodwin's writing.
Free Fall starts off as a first love story that morphs into a second chance romance 4 years later.
Jack and Nora stole a piece of my heart and soul. For two young people they have both experienced some very traumatic events in their lives and while some can quickly overcome the darkness, some cannot. Nora tries to keep her life flowing as normal. Full steam ahead to keep her life on the track she has planned. Jack is still traumatized by a recent event that changed everything. When a new girl moves in next door maybe there will be some light in his ever darkening life.
"When it gets dark look for the stars. Stars can't shine without the darkness."
Sometimes people do things that they think is the right thing for the person they love. They feel that the consequences to them be damned as long as they save to one they love.
"I close my eyes and visions of Nora flash before me. I lied: the house in haunted. Not by ghosts, but by memories."
Free Fall will break you at times, you will hurt for these two young people but things have a way of coming full circle and sometimes if you believe you can find your way to your person.
"Find someone to run with you , darling. Not ahead, not behind, but next to you."
This story line was unlike anything I have read. Emily you have out done yourself with Jack and Nora's story. It was a teenage romance plus a second chance all into one.
Jack and Nora were perfect for each other. Both in a dark place and broken in their own ways, but coming into each others lives at the perfect time.
"...because anywhere with a person you love is a good place."
Nora is still dealing with the loss of parents, when her grandmother gets sick and is unable to care for her. With this new family she ends up with she is put in Jack's line of sight becoming his next door neighbor...
Jack is stuck in the darkness, after an incident that occurred 2 years ago he still can't escape it. When Nora comes into his life Jack finds peace, but he doesn't feel she deserves the burden and lets her go. For both being so young they had dealt with so much.
Four years later a second chance arises. Will Jack finally let Nora love him and show him that within the darkness there is light?
This story was such an emotional, angst read. I couldn't express to anyone how much you should read it. Every character deserves their happy ending but these two deserve it the most...
Emily Goodwin has done it AGAIN! She has such a way with words. Free Fall gave me everything I hoped for, and so much more. It. Is. Amazing. What an emotional journey … this book will give you all the feels. It was simultaneously heart-breaking and beautiful.
"When it gets dark, look for the stars. Stars can't shine without the darkness."
Jack Harrington and Nora Fisher are drawn to one another from the start. Both characters have a past filled with struggle and hardship, and find refuge in one another. I loved these two. I mean, how could I not? You watch them fall apart, only to come back together. It’s safe to say that I was a wreck at numerous points in this book.
“There’s no shame in not being okay sometimes. I love him. All of him. The good, the bad, and the dark too.”
I had high hopes for Free Fall, and my expectations were surpassed. Thank you Emily for giving us Jack & Nora. I will most definitely be doing a re-read, along with One Call Away in the near future. I highly recommend this one loves. Trust me, this book is a MUST READ!
Can you find your soul mate in High school? For Jack and Nora the pull they had for each other when they first met was magnetic. The darkness that consumes Jack is the one thing that threatens to destroy the one beautiful thing in his life, Nora. This book is more than just a romance, it is about surviving trauma, never letting anything get you down. It is about strength, about loving and living life to its fullest. Loving someone so much that you would give everything up just to ensure they were safe and living their life to the fullest. Sacrificing your own happiness in the process. Emily hit this one out of the park. I love, love, love Jack and Nora. Two souls that found their other half and neither time or space could keep them apart. Emily gives us the perfect amount of romance and angst.
This is the first time in reading this author with the characters calling out to be read. They wanted to tell their story Jack and Nora did with us the reader being consumed by them. They sure were able to do the that starting from the beginning even. This is also to me a second chance too with it pulling you to the edge to see if it will happen the way you want it too. Your heart will be pulled many times by them with bleeding now and again. They way this one grows though it will cement in you also. The depth and the passion scream at you with you sucking up every bit of it. From start to finish they told their story to me with me devouring and loving it.
Another beautifully heartbreaking and yet uplifting story by Emily Goodwin. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I seem to fall in love with all of her books!
Jack and Nora were both broken beyond repair, or so it seems. Then they found each other. They are the missing pieces to each others broken souls. Now, time and love can heal themselves and each other.
This was a moving story about teen age love that works, and yet moves on into adulthood and becomes everything. I loved every second of this book. I did not want to put it down for a second!
I have not read this author before but something about the blurb caught my eye and being that it was a KU read I quickly clicked. One of my "reader" new year's challenges was to read new to me authors, and I really enjoyed it. The heartache that life can bring upfront and personal was hard to read at times. The situation being so close to home with how the world is unraveling at the moment. But between all the rough edges was a first love that was tested, although bruised and battered was left standing to build upon. I will definitely be one clicking more from this author.
What is wrong with me? It seems like nothing seems to click with me anymore. It has always been a miss when it comes to Emily Goodwin’s books and I don’t know why. This was another miss. I could not love it. It was okay and I enjoyed it and thats it. I got bored while reading this and unfortunately I wanted it to end fast.
“I don’t believe in luck. You make your own luck, and no amount of crystals or precariously positioned mirrors can stop bad things from happening.”
Jack was a tortured teenager who grew into a man filled with regrets about past decisions. I could not connect with Jack. I don’t know why but I felt him lacking. Something was missing when it came to him. Even his family. Everything seemed forced.
“How do you do it?” “Do what?” “Keep going like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.” “Because there has to be. I’m scared of the dark, and the only way to get back to the light is to keep going. Even when the light is fading, and things seem impossible. You just keep going.”
Nora was an ambitious girl and then a beautiful woman. She was too understanding at many times. I liked her more than Jack. Her relationship with Jack seemed forced too. I did not catch the spark, I could not feel it enough to fall in love with them. I loved her foster parents very much though.
“Hearts are wild beasts, Nora. The sooner you learn that the better. You can’t tame something wild. Doing so puts you in harm’s way, and neither will win in the end. Wild animals aren’t to be caged. They must run free. Find someone to run with you, darling. Not ahead, not behind, but next to you.”
Jack was in the dark for a long time and only Nora was capable of pulling him into the light. They depended on each other a lot and their free fall was beautiful.
I liked this book but thought that too much time was spent on their teenage years. I wish more of it was spent on when the main characters, Nora and Jack, came back together and re-kindled their love.
I did like that Jack never really overcame his PTSD-because that is a reality. I also like that Nora saw him for what he was and didn't try to change him. All in all a good read BUT a little too long as teens.
I love the realness this book brings! Real life at its finest with trauma and the struggles that trauma victims go through. This author did an excellent job with these characters and this story!!!
Free Fall was so good. I wasn’t sure what to expect as Emily Goodwin is a new to me author, but I was highly impressed. This book was an emotional rollercoaster, and once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. It was completely engrossing, and Nora and Jack were wonderful characters.
Free Fall is a stand-alone novel. It’s written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Nora and Jack.
These two had each experienced more heartbreak in their short lives than most adults do. Their pain was completely different, yet completely unimaginable. The things Jack had been through, in particular, were catastrophic. It was fascinating to see how Ms. Goodwin portrayed his experiences and the fallout from them. Each and every time he remembered the day that changed his life I felt like my heart stopped.
Based on the cover copy, I had been expecting Free Fall to be completely a second-chance romance. Instead, we got to witness their initial love story and their second chance. It made their reunion that much more poignant since we’d went through their first love in real time. Experiencing the type of connection they had, the way they were each the support system the other needed at the most desperate times in their lives, made it easier to understand the connection they still had years later.
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but the only wish I had for Free Fall is that the epilogue hadn’t been included. I know people love them, especially the type this one was, but for me, it just didn’t add to the story and felt rushed, had it been a little longer or more substantial it may have worked better. I think I would have really been the most satisfied with the book had it ended a chapter before the prologue, that would have been the most impactful ending to me.
As I mentioned earlier, Emily Goodwin is a new to me author. I don’t know how she hasn’t crossed my radar before, especially if her other books are anything like Free Fall, but I’m glad she’s on it now. This book was powerfully written and covered sensitive topics without ever feeling exploitative of those themes. Ms. Goodwin’s prose was powerful and engaging; she’s a talented artist, and I look forward to reading more from her in the future.
I started reading this book, without reading the blurb, so i had no idea what was I in for. And to say it was amazing, it's an understatement. It's a second chance story, which is my favorite kind of read. We all know how those go. Boy meat girl, fall in love, break up for some stupid reason, and after a while, they met again and eventually, after many fights they get back together. Not here. They didn't break up for some stupid reason, and one of the things I loved most about this book, was that Nora didn't stay mad at Jack, and played hard to get.She knew and understood him, She was hurt, but realized that, if you love him, you have to let the past go. Sometimes I come across some epic books, that will stay with me forever, and when I see a quote, I instantly recognize the book. This I will definitely recognize. Sometimes I read a book, and the next day, I have trouble remembering his or her name. Not Nora and Jack. And sometimes, if I'm lucky I come across an amazing book, in which I can lose myself, see it playing it out like a movie. Free Fall was that book for me. I lived every single word. I felt every happy, sad, heartbreaking, moment. I was there along with them until the last page. I'm no stranger to great loss, and I dealt with it as best as I could. But after "meeting " Nora, and seeing how strong and brave she is, I feel like, I will find the light at the end of my dark tunnel. And Jack. He is one of the strongest, male character i know. He was so open and honest with his feelings for Nora. Usually, they hide and try to say nothing is wrong, and by doing so, they hurt the one they love. Not Jack. He knew Nora was the light in his darkness. I loved all of Emily's books, but this one it's by far my favorite one.
Jack and Nora are beautifully broken. They both have their own kind of darkness but Jack lets his overshadow him and doesn't let him see the possibilities for a future with Nora.
I loved them in high school. Jack, through all his struggles, is so solid for Nora at a time when she needs him most. They develop a friendship and then more and I loved going with them on that journey. When we get to the time jump I'm a little heartbroken and anxious for their paths to cross again.
Even though Nora and Jack are both heartbroken and on their own, I love that they each pursued their goals, at least career wise. They're both where they want to be professionally and that opens them up to more possibilities to make their relationship work.
It's tough going at times and sometimes I just wanted to smash them together and lock them inside Jack's cabin so nothing could go wrong for them. This book is not necessarily a tear jerker but it is so deeply emotional that it will have you feeling their pain. I felt like I was right there with them for their highs and their lows. Each of them had some rough lows, individually and together and I love that they help each other through. They hold each other up so beautifully and I absolutely fell in love with every second of this book.
Also, can we talk about how Jack manages to be every favorite book boyfriend at the same time, perfectly? He's the broody troubled hero; he's the cute guy that draws and hangs out with his best friend, aka his dog; he's the solid guy you can turn to. He's everything and he's perfect in all his flaws, but also, all his Jack/Charlie cuteness.
How can I even begin to describe how remarkable this book was! It almost seems impossible for me to put into words just how much this story meant to me. Free Fall was a heartbreaking and poignant love story that captivated my heart from the very start. This author’s flawless writing and riveting storytelling had me infatuated with this book from the first page to the last. Jack and Nora's unforgettable journey had tugged on my heartstrings and kept me craving for more of their story. The storyline was so compelling that you can’t help in becoming emotionally invested in these characters. My heart truly went out for Jack and Nora. Their journey wasn’t an easy one and was filled with plenty of obstacles. But it had also made their story even more alluring. One of the things that I loved about this story was the fact that the characters were so believable and relatable in their struggles. They weren’t perfect and had issues that they struggled to overcome especially in their relationship. I was also moved by Jack’s journey throughout this book. To see how much he struggled with the trauma that he experienced in his early life and how he handled it was very compelling and moving. Free Fall has exceeded all my expectations and has once again solidified my love for this author’s heartwarming and refreshing love stories. I cannot recommend this beautiful story enough, it’s a definite must read! So if you’re looking for one of the top unforgettable romances of this year, then this is the book for you.
Nora Fisher met Jack when she was placed in a foster home next door to his family, after losing hers. He wanted her from the moment he spotted her, recognizing the pain in her eyes, as he carries his own. Her light kept his darkness at bay, but Jack made a huge mistake after falling in love with her, he pushed her away, believing that he wasn't any good for her. After breaking both of their hearts, four years later, she's back home from college, and he's determined to fix what he broke. But is he too late this time? Free Fall started out with Jack & Nora in High School, so it was more YA, but then it turned into an adult book after she finished college, and I absolutely loved how the sexy times changed pace with the ages. I fell in love with both Nora & Jack, even in all of their brokenness, as each had reasons, so I wanted to shake Jack when he let her go, without letting her make the decision. As you can see, the brilliant Emily Goodwin has written another emotional story that I was full on invested in from the beginning. The pain from Nora & Jack's different issues seeped out of my kindle enough to have my eyes leak a time or two. And the cast of secondaries added more depth, and at times, humor, especially fur babies. It was a beautiful story of second chances, even when life wasn't so kind, with a realistic feel that I want more of! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
You'll need some tissues for this one... Love starts off young in the romance between two soul mates with horrible pasts. They meet in high school and share their pasts and quickly become reliant on each other. Characters are wiser than their age. Scene descriptions and location described in a way that it is easily visualized! And now a bit about the story...
Nora has lost all of her family. She is placed in a foster home where she meets Jack. Jack is her next door neighbor and has a dark and depressing past that haunts him. Though he doesn't believe in the ghosts that are haunting him, Nora seems to make if all better. But can a relationship starting at 16 and 18 last with such a horrendous background as its beginning....
Favorite passages: - You can change the world. Just don’t let the world change you. - “It’s just me and you.” - “Clean your room before rats start living in your dirty laundry.” “They already do. That’s why I keep the dirty plates here. They have to eat.” - “I don’t know why I didn’t come to this last year.” “Because it’s lame?” “This is not lame. I feel like I’m in a Hallmark movie!” “Exactly. Lame.” - I’m sure every guy in the group is wondering the same thing I am. Is there a ticking time bomb inside of me too?
Note: I was given a free copy and voluntarily chose to review this book.
There is always a "before" and an "after" falling, a reason, and thousand consequences. Falling is when your life breaks in pieces in front of you and you can do nothing to stop it or what will come after, and you feel as broken as your life, unable to fix it no matter how much you try, or fight against it. What is broken still broken. That's what Jack is. He has been swollen by his darkness, and he just gave up. Or he thinks he did it. What he doesn't know and expect either is to see the light. First is like a spark who drawn him to it. Then that beautiful spark becomes stronger and turn into a flame, a flame he desperately need but he knows he'd turn off eventually. But the flame is stronger than he thought. If the darkness own his life, that flame gets his heart. And still there for him no matter what. But you need to put something on it to make it keep burning. Because that flame could be your lucky star. All you have to do is reach out and grab it. By doing that you don't only cut your darkness but you also let the light feed your heart and turn your life brighter. That's Nora Fisher's power. Even if her life is far from being a dream. She will catch him every time he'll fall in the dark.because when two hearts are beating together, linked to one other from the very first moment there is no time, no distance, darkness or awful memories to break them apart.
