A new romantic suspense series by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author K.M. Scott and Anina Collins!

Persephone Gilmore comes from a life of privilege. The oldest daughter of media mogul Marshall Gilmore, she grew up wanting for nothing. Then one night, those choices come back to haunt her.

Nick Hanson hasn't been truly happy since he left the FBI. Life as a hired gun for wealthy clients has paid well and made him very much in demand, but it isn't the same as the life he used to have. It's dangerous work, but he knows what to expect and he's never been one to turn down a challenge.

What starts out as just another case turns into something much more, and Nick finds out just how much he's willing to do to save Persephone.

So this was my first experience with this author and I am pleased to say I enjoyed this first book in the "Project Artemis" series.
I found "Into The Darkness" to be really fast paced and you were immersed into the action right from the get-go.
The two main characters here were great, liked them both very much.
Persephone was a strong woman, totally unspoiled by her silver spoon upbringing.
I'm not quite sure how correct that would be in real-life but for the basis of this story, it was something I ultimately adored most about her.
The male lead Nick was also a really relatable individual and I liked him equally as much.
It was really great to see the relationship develop slowly between Persephone and Nick as they each realise they only have each other to rely on in this dangerous situation.
"In the Darkness" set itself up for future books in this series really nicely.
I am so looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
My only issues here was I felt to much time was spent setting the scene for future stories.
I would have prefered the spotlight ultimately to remain more on our two lovers and less on future events.
I do understand why this was needed though.
My second slight peeve was I wasn't a great fan of a certain scene between Persophone and Nick.
I didn't think it added anything special to the storyline and was just there ultimately for overall shock value.
And lastly, I'm not sure why everyone was bandying Stockholm syndrome around?
Correct me if I am wrong but Stockholm is all about falling for your captor, well technically Nick was Persphones White Knight/rescuer, not her Jailor so Stockholm should never be in the equation DUH!!!

obvs.gif

Unless I'm ultimately missing something there.
So that's it, folks.
Its been a while since I have read a good romantic suspense and this one ticked all my boxes.
This was a great read that I recommend giving it a go.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of "In The Darkness (Project Artemis #1)" of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Two words when it comes to this story. Mind. Blown. I devoured it, honestly wishing there was more! This collaboration between Scott and Collins is utter perfection. You get passion but there is so much more to it. You get raw emotions, that are heartstopping and at times earth shattering as you navigate this journey that Persephone and Nick are thrown into. The one thing I absolutely loved about this story is Persephone. She is a real fighter and she does things in her own way. She doesn’t rely on what her family can do for her but she is in good standing with them. She does the job she wants and doesn’t back down. Then we have Nick who is tough as nails to get the job done but also has an emotional past. These two thrown together, you get a ride of your life. There are moments you may not like but for me, it made this story so much more real. Like this is actually happening or could happen. Nick does everything in his power to keep Persephone safe no matter the cost. The struggle he goes through is heartbreaking but I love how persisting Persephone is with him.
Overall, this is an epic start to an amazing series and I cannot wait for more. There is a slew of emotions plus amazing suspense that keeps you on your toes begging for more! I have been a huge fan of Scott’s work for years, and now Collins has a new one as I go devour more from them!

★ 2 stars!!! ★

Persephone is kidnapped by a group of men that despises everything her dad is. The men aren’t friendly to her. Persephone’s dad will do anything to save his daughter. When the police gets stuck, her dad hires Nick. Nick was a FBI agent and he has done a lot of undercover work. Nick will save Persephone.

Persephone is a great character! She is strong, determined, passionate, smart and hardworking. Persephone can’t believe what she’s happening to her and she hopes to be rescued soon. She isn’t sure what to think about Nick at the beginning and that’s understandable. She soon realizes that he’s different and she slowly trusts him. Nick is Persephone’s light in this dark time.

Nick is also a great character! He’s strong, protective, smart and a little closed off. He’s also patient with Persephone and tries hard to earn her trust. He would do anything to save Persephone. Nick will become very supportive of Persephone’s dreams after saving her. I really liked Persephone and Nick together. It wasn’t rushed and it felt right.

In The Darkness is a suspenseful romance. It was even a little dark sometimes. But I won’t have minded more suspense. It felt like the suspense was suddenly over and the focus was then on Project Artemis. I love the idea of Project Artemis and it’s a good name for this series. In The Darkness is an amazing start of this series. I can’t wait for the next (standalone) novel. It sounds great and I’m already intrigued by the main male characters who I’ve met in this novel.

I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Persphone Gilmore comes from a life of privilege. The oldest daughter of media mogul Marshall Gilmore, she grew up wanting for nothing. But her father taught her more than just how to make billions, and even though she could sit by the pool and eat bon bons every day for the rest of her life, she chooses to work as an ER nurse and live on her own away from the family state and her father's security. Then one night, those choices come back to haunt her. Nick Hanson hasn't been truly happy since he left the FBI. Life as a hired gun for wealthy clients has paid well and made him very much in demand, but it isn't the same as the life he used to have. What starts out as just another case turns into something much more, and Nick finds out just how much he is willing to do to save Persephone.

I really loved this book. Persephone Gilmore has grown up with never wanting for anything thanks to her father being a billionaire. She however decided to wanted to forge her own trail and became and ER nurse and lives away from her father and his security guards. However I am betting the night she gets kidnapped she is wishing that she had those guards with her. Her dad turns to Nick Hanson who use to work for the FBI and is now making a living as a hired gun. Nick is more than happy to go undercover and infiltrate the militia group but he still has the task of getting Persephone to trust him. This is where everything gets crazy and they are both sent into darkness and neither one of them is sure if they will ever find the light again. This book is dark and gritty and will keep you one the edge of your seat. And the ending.......that's all I am going to say. I for one can not wait for the next book in this series to come out. I am sure I will devour it just like I did this one.

Persephone Gilmore wanted to make a way for herself in life without living off her father’s money.  All of that was great till the night she was kidnapped as she was leaving work at the hospital.  Nick Hanson left the FBI and now works as a hired gun.  When Persephone Gilmore’s father calls him to get his daughter back Nick takes the case because it’s the exact kind of work that gets his adrenaline pumping.  After inserting himself into a militia type group now Nick must get Persephone to trust him and realize that he really is there to help her.  With a turn of horrific events the two are pulled into the darkness and neither are sure if they will ever be able to find the light again.

K.M. Scott is an exceptional story teller and has once again out done herself with In the Darkness.  A harrowing story of kidnapping, abuse, trust, betrayal and forgiveness, In the Darkness pushes the social boundaries beyond what most would find acceptable to write about. This is an exceptional book that makes you want to keep turning the pages, so you can find out what happens next but at the same time wishing the story wouldn’t end.   Luckily Scott promises to continue the story with a second book telling the next installment of Project Artemis.  As with all K.M. Scott’s books, the reader will NOT be disappointed

In The Darkness which is the first installment of Project Artemis had me turning pages from the second I started it. I literally could not put my tablet down. There was mystery, there was heartache, there was twists and turns, but ultimately there was love. I absolutely enjoyed every second of this read and it was my first introduction to both of these authors. They collaborated beautifully. Some books you can tell which author has done what but this book absolutely flowed from first to last page.

Persephone and Nick go through quite the journey together. Persephone has been kidnapped and Nick who is an ex FBI agent, is hired by her father to rescue her. Ultimately these two connect because of what they are experiencing together and are each the only light in each others day until he is forced to do something to ultimately try to protect her from the men who kidnapped her. (Sorry I won't leave a spoiler, you'll just have to read!) I was questioning whether they would get through the rest of the book still intact but I wasn't left disappointed. I got my answers and then some!

I can't wait to see what the next installment of the Project Artemis series brings our way! An absolute 5 star dark read!

In The Darkness was a story that hit the ground running and never slowed down. It was the perfect beginning to what I truly believe will be an amazing new series, and I'm already addicted. I'm already in love with K.M. Scott's brilliant writing style, but haven't read Anina Collins before, but I know that they meshed together perfectly with this exciting story that kept my heart racing cover to cover. See, Persephone Gilmore comes from a family with lots of money, and while they aren't over bearing, but she still wants to do good in the world on her own. So she's an independent woman, who lives in an apartment, and works in a hospital as a nurse, when she's kidnapped out of the parking lot. Her father has the FBI involved, but they can't find her, and so he pays the ransom, but the kidnappers still don't give her back. That's when Nick Hanson is hired to bring her home. Nick has to go undercover, as part of the terrorist group holding her, and as he's on the job, she becomes more than just the job to him, but he has to get her home safely first, before he can figure what is going on in his head. Again, this was an exciting read, because going undercover makes for an edge of the seat experience, since at any point, things can go south. And while this is classified as romantic suspense, it's hard to find alone time when being held hostage, but Nick & Persephone did get to know each other under extreme conditions, so there wasn't a lot of time for games. I sang colorful metaphors quite a bit throughout this story, because it was gritty since kidnapping is no joke. Now I'm going to end this review because if I go on any longer, spoiler douchery could make an appearance, so I absolutely CANNOT WAIT for the next book in this awesome new series, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

After reading In The Darkness, I was left speechless and with a lot of thoughts running through my head. K.M. Scott is my go to author when I need something a little dark and a whole lot of sexy. When I say dark, I mean you come out of her book world a little bruised in the soul because of what the characters go through and the sacrifices they make. This is a co-written book by a new to me author Anina Collins. Together, these two authors bring a new series that I was sucked into right away.

Persephone is one of the strongest heroines I have read in a long time. She is independent and completely down to earth. She has a nursing career and the instincts to help those in need regardless of her background. Before she knows it, the unexpected happens and she becomes a prisoner of a militia group that have nothing but hatred and anger. When Nick comes into the story, I knew he was the man Persephone needed to survive. His confidence and alpha attitude meant he was going to do what he had too. Then a heartbreaking event shatters me. Just like the characters, I was conflicted of it being horrible and trying to understand it was to free them at the same time.

The ending was not expected after what these characters went through. Honestly, the way Nick came out of the rescue mission, you felt a piece of him died behind the walls of the captors. I was unsure of Persephone would be able to lead them both out of the dark. The idea Persephone brings is hopeful and bold. Project Artemis is here and ready to fight the bad and ugly out in the world. I was left a little wounded, but I stayed with the feeling that this book is a start to an amazing series!!!

"In The Darkness" is the first book in the Project Artemis series and all I can say is WOW, this series is starting off with a bang. This book grabbed me from the very first page and kept a hold on me until the last page was turned. The danger and suspense started off right there in chapter one, and had me squirming and holding my breath waiting to see what happened next.
Persephone Gilmore the heroine in this book is far from a spoiled little rich girl, she is a nurse, strong, confident, determined and a fighter. She stands tall and proud for the people and the things that she believes in. Nick Hanson is the hero in this book, former FBI, confident, tough, alpha male and also determined. He will do whatever he has to do to protect Persephone, to get her out of danger and home safely. No matter what it takes he will protect her.
If you love romance with a side of suspense, danger, drama and passion thrown in then you have to read this book. It is absolutely amazing, with all the feels, and I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Romantic suspense at it's best!!

Nick an ex FBI agent who gets hired for dangerous jobs by infiltrating and getting lost or kidnapped victims to take them back safely. And when he gets a call on a job it changes him completely. Persephone a daughter of very rich man with many media networks and businesses she is the type that wants to be out on her own and make her own way. She studied to be a nurse and rented her own apartment far away from her family’s estate. Persephone is kidnapped but forever she is changed from the outcome. It’s sad and unfortunate for what she goes thru but she is an overcomer and has a different mindset in which she becomes the founder of project Artemis. I loved it! Can’t wait to read more of the guys that became a part of my the project Artemis.

description
This is the first book in a new series, starting off with tension and drama that caught my attention right away.

Persephone is a rich man’s daughter but not a pampered rich girl. Working as a nurse has exposed her to all walks of life and, unfortunately, the aftermath of all types of violence. Even all that experience could not have prepared her for this…

Nick is hired to rescue Persephone, another case in a career he is struggling to find fulfillment in. Nothing could have prepared him for her…

I really enjoyed this romantic suspense which had characters easy to relate to. Given her situation, it was easy to feel close to Persephone. Her strength was being cruelly tested as she shared her fears and understandable horror at her kidnapping. Nick made a warm and empathetic rescuer as he balanced his mission with the needs of a woman in a no-win situation. Their bonding was hard-won and had unexpected twists, making their relationship something they would both have to fight for.

I did struggle with the quickness of their relationship, given the extraordinary circumstances and events that took place. It’s not that I didn’t want them to work things out, I liked their characters and the way they found each other in the midst of hell, I just needed to feel their connection more and understand it better.

The authors’ writing style, and the glimpse into the intriguing characters to come in this series, will have me coming back for more.

In the Darkness

This is an amazing first book in the series Project Artemis where Persephone Gilmore, a nurse and the daughter of a wealthy man, Marshall Gilmore, was kidnapped by a terrorist group, National Equality Militia, in order to extort money from him to find their cause. Mr. Gilmore was working with the FBI and was getting no closer to finding her even though he paid the first ransom demand but they botched an attempt to catch the men in the ransom handoff. He heard about Nick Hanson a former FBI agent who specializes in going undercover and could infiltrate this group in order to find his daughter and set her free. He met with Nick then showed him a picture of his daughter and he immediately accepted the assignment for a sizable fee to find her and return Persephone safely but without the FBI 's knowledge he would be working on this abduction. Nick went undercover and at a bar met up with the terrorists and they accepted him into their group because he told them he believed in their cause. He persuaded them to take him to where they were keeping Persephone gagged, blindfolded, bound and tied to a chair after accepting Nick in their gang. He then got them to let him fed her and he revealed to her that he was there to save her and he would get her home safe. Things did not go exactly like he wanted and they forced him to take Persephone and lay his claim to her so they would leave her alone. It deeply effected him but he had no choice but they escaped right after that. It took Nick longer to forgive himself for having to do that than it did her because she knew he was protecting her. Later on he had to kill one of the gangster they got her home. It was such an exciting love story as these two fell in love while they were going through her horrendous kidnapping and escape. She was so grateful to him and loved how gentle that he was with her. After being saved she wanted to do two things with her life and one involved spending it with him because she fell in love with him. He was so grateful that she forgave him and he loved her too. The second thing was to buy a mansion and establish an organization dedicated to saving women that were in the same situation that she was. This organization would be called the Artemis Project and the men that would work for them would be paid well with one stipulation which was that they were not in a relationship with anyone as long as they lived at this estate and worked for them. Nick found the men and Persephone would find the women that needed their help and give them their assignments to save them. I cannot wait to read the next release in this series and hope Nick and Persephone continue to be together and in love in the future books. This was an amazing suspenseful romantic love story that I highly recommend this book.

I read this book in one day! It is suspenseful and romantic. The excitement starts on the very first page and it is fast paced through to the last page.

The characters are amazing. There is no meek, little woman in this story. The hero is handsome, sexy, confident, brave, smart, sensitive and has a good heart. The heroine, like the hero, is brave, smart and has a good heart. Together they are an unbeatable team.

The story is well told and held my interest for the entire book!

WOW! I loved this book! Abduction, murder, and more. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat and this book was a great escape for me. I did not want to think about anything but it! Persephone is abducted after she leaves work and taken to God only knows where. She doesn't know why, but because of who her father is, she knows that she will be murdered. Nick Hanson is former FBI and hired by Persephone's father to find and save her. There were times in this book that my heart ached and I wondered just how it would end. Seriously, this book had to have a happy ending right? They both find love through the darkness, but oh it is not easy.
In The Darkness is the first in the Project Artemis series and I cannot wait to read more!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

A suspense filled romantic mystery

I have loved every series by K M Scott. Anna Collins was new to me. Together they have written the beginning of a wonderful series. In The Darkness has everything, suspense, romance, and mystery. I love strong heroines and that is exactly what Persephone is. She is determined to get out of a bad situation and get her life back. Nick is her strong, sexy, alpha male hero. What a great start to the Project Artemis Series. Looking forward to reading what other wonderful stories these authors will have in this series.

Our hero Nick, former FBI, is hired by her father to save her. He is able to infiltrate the abductors and forms a bond with Persephone. Her trust in him is broken when he is forced to do the unthinkable to save her. Will her trust in him return and will he able to ever forgive himself? Read For Author:
K.M. Scott and Anina Collins did a brilliant job with mystery, intrigue and love with Into The Darkness. When not your typical Heiress Peresphone Gilmore is kidnapped just because she is father's daughter - her father hire's and sends in former FBI agent Nick Hanson, gun for hire. Nick with demons' of his own is taken with Peresphone's picture at first the her fight for life must do things he is not proud of to keep her alive and safe from the Militia that is holding her. Can they overcome what has happened and find love, can Nick forgive himself? Will they be able to work together to help other women in need in Peresphone's new mission in life once she is rescued? I can't wait for the next book. Because I couldn't put this one down. Personally, I think you will love it.

Absolutely fantastic story! KM Scott and Anina Collins collaboration in this book is outstanding!

In The Darkness is the first book in the Project Artemis series. A project that was born after a traumatic experience for Persephone.

Kidnapped, bound and hurting, that's how Nick finds Persephone. She's extremely fragile but after so much time in captivity, she shows how strong she truly is.
Nick just need to save her and take her home, but sometimes its easier said than done and after some emotional events the inevitable happens.
Hurt, confused and somehow betrayed, Persephone struggles with her feelings for Nick and after some thought she doesn't trust anyone but him to make her future plans come true.

Everything since the beginning grabbed me in a way I couldn't put it down until the last page. The characters are strong, the plot fantastic and in the end you cant help but want more!

If you are a fan of romantic suspense with some action and sexy scenes you cant miss this book!

This is the first book in the Project Artemis Series, an amazing Romantic Suspense. The audiobook cover is beautiful! I have read this story a year ago, and loved it. The audiobook version is amazing. This story is well written, suspenseful, intense, and action packed. Persephone, an ER Nurse, is a wonderful and strong woman. Nick, an ex FBI agent, is a handsome man, caring, protective, and supportive. The storyline is captivating! Jason Clarke and Joan Delaware did an outstanding job with the narration. I love their voices together, and they are perfect as Persephone and Nick. Jason Clarke is already one of my favorite narrators. Joan Delaware is a new narrator to me. She has a beautiful voice! I would love to listen to more book read by her. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, After the Storm. (review updated with the audiobook version)

In The Darkness by KM Scott and Anina Collins was a fantastic read. It is the first book in the Project Artemis series. Nick, our hero, is sent in to rescue Persephone from her captors and he will do anything to protect her. Persephone is one of the strongest heroines I have come across. This book had my interest all the way to the end, I read it in one sitting. The romance and suspense had me from the start. I recommend this series and look forward to the next installment

Anina Collins is a new to me author, but I have loved reading K.M. Scott's work for a while. So, I knew I wanted to read this story. I am so glad I did and I am excited to go back and check out more of what I have missed from Anina.

This story had me on the edge of my seat, my breath catching, biting my nails. I so wanted to know what would happen next. It was suspenseful. It was heartbreaking. It was passionate. It was just an all around amazing start to a new series that I know I am going to end up loving.

It's not very often that I talk about how much I love the female main character in a story. I tend to be a lot harder on them. I know. I know. That's just the way it is, but when I do find a character that I love, I have to mention it. Persephone is so strong. I was in awe of her character. I would so love to read more from her and Nick's story, but I definitely can't wait to see what comes next in this series.

In The Darkness by K.M. Scott and Anina Collins is an ABSOLUTE 5-scream must read!

Banshee Note: I have been going through an emotional rough patch, and far from my heart has been the desire to read. Admittedly this book took me a lot longer to read than it should have, especially with its fast-moving storyline, and its edge of the seat suspense.

This book took me away from my worries and woes and punched me in the gut at the same time. - Thank you K.M. and Anina for that, you don't know how much I didn't realize I needed a book with vigor and excitement ♥  Any other book probably would not have snapped me out of my funk the way In The Darkness did.

Persephone's character inspired me. She is a survivor. Her strength, courage, and independence, throughout everything that happens to her in this novel remain, she is a true warrior! I also love that Persephone has money but doesn't act like an heiress. I am not a huge fan of the billionaire trope, or when money and status are littered through the story with pompous characters.  This definitely was not like that.

This was a great start to a new series with to new-to-me collaborating authors! I need more. I NEEEED MORE!

I highly recommend reading In The Darkness it just might be my favorite book written this year!

Loved this new series. Action packed. With strong characters. Nick is hired by Persephone's wealthy father to save her from kidnappers. Yes, he's an alpha male, but she's a strong female who holds her own. The courage it takes to make it through the situation no matter what. Nick is there to save her but Persephone is right there with him. Her inner strength makes her a string character. Not a damsel waiting for her white knight to save her. Through everything they form a strong bond and a love that can carry them throughout life.
Beautifully written, action, suspense and love...what more could you ask for?
