It’s always been Stevie McCrae’s goal to play running back at University of Texas-Austin. But because of his size, Stevie never gets recognition from recruiters. Despite gaudy numbers and state rushing records, his only scholarship offers have come from out-of-state Division Two schools. But if Stevie can lead his team to a state title, his dream of attending the University of Texas might be within reach. Austin is from Texas Fridays, an EPIC Press series.
Personal Response In my own opinion, Texas Fridays:/ Austin is a good book. I can relate to it because the main character plays football. I can't relate to it because he is actually good at football. It's a good book that makes you wonder if you are a good teammate. The main character realizes that the best college is not always the best when you want to be the best.
Plot Summary Stevie McCrae was a junior in high school playing football like any other athletic jock. The thing with Stevie was that he was actually, really good. His junior year passed with a not so good season. When his senior year came around he was excited. He was an outstanding running back about to start his best season. Being so good and passionate for the sport, he got hurt in practice from trying too hard. He missed his first game of the season. He had a foot injury, and the recovery normally would last 6 weeks. Instead of six weeks, he made a remarkable comeback and was able to play for the second game. The team went on and on taking the win against every team in the state. Stevie's team went to the championship and were leading at halftime. Katy (the team Austin was against) finally got the lead and with a minute left Austin had the ball at Katy's 40-yard line. Stevie took the ball to try and get into the end zone but got tackled and the clock had all zeros. Stevie didn't get the undefeated season he wanted but still was able to go to Texas University for football.
Recommendation I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a short book to read fast. It is a good book for people who like football. I think the audience is pushed towards boys age 13-18 because it is a good book showing that even if you have the best team or player, it doesn't mean you will always do the best and to never give up. It's an easy book that is very good and I would suggest it to a lot of people.
Have you ever felt the pressure of playing in an important game where everyone is watching you? Texas Fridays by Sam Moussavi is a fiction book about the world of high school football in Texas. The story follows a player named Bobby Dupree, who has to deal with pressure games, his teammates, and personal struggles off the field. The book shows us how intense football can be in Texas and how much it means to the players and the whole community. It also gives a look with the ups and downs that come along the way with chasing football dreams. I liked this book because it was interesting since I play football and I could relate to all of it. The characters felt real, and I could understand the pressure Bobby was under, especially during big games that meant a lot . The book stays interesting the whole way through. What I liked the most is how the story shows that football is about more than just winning. It’s about teamwork ,pushing through hard times and never giving up. That made the book more interesting to me. I would highly recommend Texas Friday’s to students that play sports , especially football since they could learn some lessons from it .
Personal Response: I enjoyed this book very much because it was based around football more than the others. This book had a very easy to follow plot and it makes you just want to keep on reading. The book was very entertaining.
Plot Summary: The book starts off with a senior in high school named Stevie. He is a running back for his team. He is the best player in the conference, but is overlooked by college scouts because of his size. They thin he is undersized for the sport, even though is production is through the roof. During his scout day, he tried to carry to many players and ended up getting a high ankle sprain. The injury was suppose to keep him out all season, but he came back the net week. He plays great all season and ultimately brings his team to the state championship. He was playing great, but on the last play of the game he made a cut to the inside and fell. They lost the championship, but he still got to be a walk on for the Texas Longhorns, his home team.
Character Development: Stevie goes from being an undersized athlete to a walk on at one of the best college teams. He grows stronger and faster every week. He even overcomes a season ending injury.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to high school students who like football. The book is a great read for people who enjoy football. It is very easy to read and the book keeps you on your toes the whole time.
Student Name: Parker Groskreutz Date Submitted: Book Title: Texas Fridays Austin Lexile: 860
Personal Response: Texas Fridays Austin has been a fun book to read. This book was about a character named Stevie McCrae, and his goal to make it to a D1 school as a running back in college. Stevie's only problem was his size since he was short he never got much recognition from college recruiters.
Plot Summary: The main character is named Stevie, and he had a best friend named Jeron. This was Stevie’s last year of high school ball which meant he had to play his best to get the scouts attention. Jeron later got hurt in one of the games, so Stevie was on his own to take his team to the playoffs. team, Austin High, was undefeated all season and even through the playoffs. Austin High made it to the championship but fell short of winning. Stevie accepted the loss and moved on to be the best walk-on at the University of Texas.
Recommendation: I recommend this book to someone that can relate to football. If you like books that are short and fun to read this is it. If you start in this series you don't want to stop.
This book is about a football team in Austin Texas. The book starts off with 2 friends going to school and they are both on the football team. Joren and Stevie are the 2 boys Joren has a football scholarship for a good division 1 school. Stevie on the other has nothing. Stevie and Joren were best friends and they did a lot of things together. At the first couple of weeks of practice, Stevie was upset that no one was trying their hardest so Stevie ran as hard as he could and had a bad sprain in his ankle. The ankle sprain he had faced set him back for the first games of the season. The first game came around and Stevie was forced to sit on the sidelines and watch his team play the first game. The team won with the great help of Joren on the defensive side of the ball. Stevie had to ice his ankle a lot and work with it to get back in order to play the part of the season and every day he did this. The second game came around and Stevie realized the Joren wasn’t playing his hardest so after the game, Stevie asked him what's wrong and Joren said he didn’t wasn't to get hurt before going to college to play. The next game Stevie was able to play and he was a running back and they won the game but Joren got hurt and was out for the rest of the season. Stevie had the best year of football in his life and he kept calling schools to see if he got an offer but he never did. He was very upset because he was doing very well. As the season went on the team kept winning and Stevie kept checking for offers but never got the one that he wanted. After one game he went up and talked to a recruiter and the recruiter said that they had no more scholarships to hand out but they said they wanted him to be a walk-on at the school. Stevie was very upset. The state championship game was coming up and Joren was still out with an injury. The game came to an end and it was all over Stevie had won the state championship of texas. Stevie was still angry that he didn’t get a scholarship but he was happy that he had won state for his team. The team was very happy and everyone went home a champion. This was my favorite part of the book because they had just won the championship, My least favorite part was when Stevie and Joren got hurt because it was so sad to hear them both got hurt. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read about football or read a good story.
Personal Opinion In my judgement, I believe that Austin (Texas Fridays) has been a interesting book to read. This book was about Stevie McCrea, and his main goal is to make it to a D1 school as a running back in college. Stevie had one problem. His problem was that his size was lacking. He was short. This problem got to the college recruiters and Stevie wanted to make a statement that he is better than anyone else.
Overview The main character is Stevie, and he is friends with Jeron. Stevie was a senior in high school and this is his last high school football season. He wanted to play his very best to get the scouts attention. Stevie and Jeron were both very amazing at football. When Jeron got hurt, Stevie rose up and came into action. He wanted to take his team to the playoffs in honor of Jeron being out. Austin High was undefeated all season and including throughout the playoffs. Austin High made it to the greatest of all, the championship game.
Recommendation: I would highly recommend this book to someone who likes football. If you like books that are fun, enjoyable and short, this is the book for you. I am definitely going to continue reading the series. If you even read one of Sam Moussavi's books, you will definitely need the series.
Stevie McCrae's goal was to play running back at the university of Texas at Austin because that has always been his dream ever since day one, he had scholarships for football for outside of high school, but he always turned them down because he has always wanted to play for university of Texas at Austin because it's a big thing and he was born and raised there and he's not planning on moving anytime soon. If Stevie makes his dream true and takes his team to state that would be the coolest thing he has ever done. So, I really liked this book because it fits my likings. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves football or just loves happy endings.
Austin(Texas Fridays) is a really good book it shows a high school senior and his friend playing there last season of there high school football career. Then his team make it to the state championship and lose because of 1 yard. Also it shows his passion for the University of Texas as a college to go to for his next step in his football career but the University of Texas scouts wouldn't notice him because of his height.
it was a little longer and more fun to read. I also liked the football aspect because I like football. It was the only sports book I read this semester. I liked the decision the main character made at the end of the book and feltt like it waas a good ending to the book. The climax was good because it made me wonder what was next. I didn't like the book because of the fact that it wasn't good enough and I felt that it left enough details to make it a good book.
This is one of a series of hi lo books that center around Texas High School football. The story was good, but will be a little hard to follow for someone who does not know football, as it uses football jargon.
I thought the book was very good. I could feel the energy just by reading it, and everything was very realistic. If you play or played high school football, I would recommend you read this book.
Stevie McCray's goal was to play running back at the university of Texas at Austin, he always lived and was raised at Austin, he had scholarships for football for outside of high school but he has always wanted to play for university of Texas at Austin because he was born and raised there. but because of his size they wouldn't recognize him as a football player but he was willing to change, play and prove them wrong.
