The Climate Chronicles: Inconvenient Revelations You Won't Hear From Al Gore--And Others
Joe Bastardi has been in love with the weather since his first memory, He is the son of a meteorologist, Matt Bastardi Texas A and M 1965, who emphasized to him the importance of looking at the past and understanding the present in an effort to formulate ideas on future events. This methodology revealed distinct cyclical patterns that were used to provide the foundation for his forecasting. The wonderful advances in science add to the mix, but are tools to use, not answers that should automatically be accepted as we see with the climate agenda. The lesson in weather, in history, in anything, is that the foundation you stand on today is built from yesterday to reach for tomorrow. The book examines the clash between that philosophy and one that minimizes lessons of the past, or ignores them, and uses climate and weather to simply further an agenda that has very little to do with either. An uncurious media is a willing accomplice in advancing the missive to the population, The Climate Chronicles reveals that clash in an effort to get the reader to search beyond what they are told. As such its a must read for those seeking not an agenda driven answer, but the right answer, wherever it may lead them. Bastardi's goal is not to get you to blindly accept what he says, but to dig in and examine for yourself. The book shows, given the implications of not doing so, more is at stake than just tomorrows weather.

Joe Bastardi forecasts the weather and if his forecasts aren't accurate he doesn't get paid. Therefore, he uses science to help him make the best possible forecasts. The members of the religious sect (that's what it seems like--it sure ain't science) who blame us for global warming don't have to be right--just noisy. For example, Al Gore, who he talks a lot about in his book, has made a lot of money from global warming even though he is never right.
Carbon dioxide can't possibly cause global warming because it constitutes such a miniscule part of the atmosphere. In the 4.5 billion year history of the earth, carbon dioxide levels and temperature have both fluctuated widely, but these fluctuations have no relationship to each other. Therefore, all the money we spend to reduce carbon dioxide is wasted. Carbon dioxide isn't poisonous. In fact, without it there would be no life on earth.
When he talks about computer modeling he catches my attention because I was in the computer business for a long time. If you want a computer to predict the future you have to feed it a lot of assumptions, all of which are bound to be wrong to some extent. These errors, even small ones, add up to large variations in the results. Therefore, computer models of future weather are completely unreliable.

Having just finished this book, and looking over the notes I took as I read along, I believe Joe is the kind of guy you want with you when weather/climate really matters. He loves the weather (It’s the only weather we got, right?) It’s his life-long passion. He also, as a privateer weatherman, has to lay it on the line with every forecast-unlike the joker alarmists who keep getting a pass when their long-range predictions and models fail miserably. Joe’s the guy on the frontline, with his sleeves rolled up. He’s grounded in experience.
This is why I believe the material in the book, though sometimes repetitive, is well worth the read. Here’s a list of what I enjoyed most:
Quotes (snippets) like those of H. L. Mencken, particularly, “The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.” AND “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.”
That pretty well sums up the mode of the climate alarmistas. It also nails what Eisenhower noted as the scientific-technology elite.
The analogy of CO2 being the the control knob of planetary climate changes. It’s almost magical thinking when pondering how many other variables are involved.
The hokey hockey stick (Mann’s) vs the REAL hockey stick of increased prosperity and longevity was well handled. Truth: I’d much rather spend an hour with Joe B at Duffy's Tavern, than spend it entrenched inside an echo chamber with the likes of Michael Mann or Bill Nye.
Joe keeps his Libertarian self on the bright side and doesn’t stray into the “dark side” of explaining what the end game is for those that work the populace into a frenzy. But I found a few nuggets to cherish.
“A colder planet would lead to untold misery given the current policies geared toward the opposite.”
Irony: The system which has given people the ability to spread their wings is the system climate alarmists are now trying to destroy and replace.
Joe also expresses compassion toward his antagonists who have to stick with their claims and fend off anyone who questions them and their consensus. It’s their livelihood and reputation at stake-a psycho-social-economic entrapment. In other words, they’re compromised.
There’s more to be said about this writing that I found stimulating, humorous, honest, and informative. But the review must end here. Reading The Climate Chronicles takes the reader into the heart of weather forecasting and reminds us, as in Joe’s standard sign off on audio, “Enjoy (i.e love) the weather, it’s the only weather you got!”

A REPRINTING OF MANY OF HIS BLOG ARTICLES
Meteorologist Joe Bastardi wrote in the Introduction to this 2018 book, “This book is not meant to be an attack on others but rather a defense of what I dearly love. All these are opinion blogs, already published and organized in a way to tell this story… I am… someone who is speaking up for what I cherish…. Furthermore, my purpose is to protect the longstanding forecast techniques that can help supplement the great advances in science. The argument comes down to a group of people who are trying to get the public to believe that every major weather event is a sign of climate change versus people like me who USE THE PAST and the techniques of today to forecast these events… It boils down to a defense of the absolute truth of nature’s ways versus a relativist truth that depends solely on a missive and the desire for control.”
He suggests, “Mankind does better overall when it’s warm. Most of the current warming has been in polar regions during wintertime. Where most people live, the warming is much smaller, and in the tropics, it’s negligible.” (Pg. 27)
He states, “In climate, when long periods of warmth or cold show up (on the order of decades or centuries), it means the earth is in a warm of cold spell… the current warmth is nothing remarkable and is in fact timid relative to other warm periods… Here is the critical question: Why is the public and media exposed only to information stacked on one side of the argument when the evidence that questions, if not refutes, the whole argument is there for all to see? …. Population, life expectancy and personal wealth have exploded since fossil fuels became the prime source of energy on the planet.” (Pg. 34-35)
He explains, “Some may wonder, why do I agree with the models now when so many times I am pointing out they are wrong? Because I believe they are right now, since this is what I have been thinking is going to happen based on our research. Therefore, if the models some to us … it is a good extra opinion that is backing us up. Models are tools for the answer, and when they can be used, you use them!” (Pg. 50)
He proposes, “Before we adopt carbon policy that can hurt our already struggling economy, there needs to be an unbiased debate about what is actually driving our climate. A leader truly interested in the good of his nation would allow the lifeblood of the economy, which is still fossil fuel energy sources, to flow freely while cultivating the alternative energy sources in a way that someday they can compete and drive down prices further.” (Pg. 69)
He asserts, “I am not in the habit of attacking academia, but I do believe that politics and ideology have taken over. The universities were always supposed to be the bastion of open-minded debate, but that is not the case here… the education system is not advancing this but acting in a repressive manner to stifle the very questions needed to come up with the answer.” (Pg. 89)
He recounts, “Bill Nye issued a bet more than six years after my initial challenge to him in 2010… News flash, Bill: Midway through last year I said 2016 global temperatures would rise thanks to El Niño. I can forecast this because I don’t believe CO2 is a major player in determining global temperatures. I believe the sun, ocean cycles and stochastic events play a much more significant role. Just so Bill and the rest of his brainwashed audience understand, I fully support our nation’s transition to clean and sustainable energy while using all sources of energy at our disposal not until a feasible economic transition can be accomplished. If you were really serious about it, we would be using more nuclear energy anyway.” (Pg. 125)
He argues, “One of the biggest problems I have with the whole climate change agenda has to do with the fact we have much bigger problems to deal with now. It’s arrogant and egotistical to think you KNOW the answer about future events. You may have a pretty good idea, and when it occurs it may prove you right. But the problems that are occurring now are far more important. In fact, I think one of the reasons people love to obsess over the climate issue is because they don’t have to deal with the hard problems—like people starving in our streets, or the decay of our cities, or our culture. So they go after a problem that cannot be judged for since it’s so far down the road. What’s wild is that many of the policies being advocated by way of the climate agenda WORSEN the problems we have now simply by deflecting money and attention from them.” (Pg. 137)
He suggests, “I don’t believe we should be trashing nature. But invoking God… when He created a symbiotic relationship between animals and plants (carbon dioxide being the common link) as a reason CO2 is a life-threatening pollutant makes no sense. I see God’s hand in nature and I am thankful for it. I don’t believe in using God as a weapon to implement policies that seem to go against the very nature of His creation. It comes down to the absolute truths of nature and nature’s God versus the relative truth of men who whole the type of motives you see. It’s damming evidence of motives that have nothing to do with my reason for writing this book, which is strictly the climate and weather.” (Pg. 143)

I don't have strong opinions about the topic of Climate and Global Warming, so this review isn't intended to sway anyone one way or the other and is focused more on this specific book itself.
Pros:
1. The book lays out its arguments clearly and in the case of extreme storms, ie. Hurricanes, provides numerous examples to support the authors point.
2. The author is willing to present testable/verifiable predictions of the future weather in the short and medium term.
Neutral:
1. The author rightly chastises climate scientists who believe in anthropomorphic global warming/Climate Change for the use of unscientific terms and rhetoric like such as calling being nazis, deniers, or referring to the debate as a war. He generally stays above the frey and doesn't resort to this sort of name calling, but he does inject tangential or unrelated politics into his pieces, by making arguments along the lines of 'we shouldn't spend money on global warming, we should address xyz instead'. I'd generally prefer him to leave this stuff out and just stick to the weather and keep things simpler.
Cons:
1. The formatting is a bit strange, as the book is mostly a series of previously published articles. I couldn't really identify a specific organizational structure to how they were arranged.
2. The arguments are quite repetitive. This book could likely be edited down to something much shortly and succinct without losing any substance.

As a weather enthusiast and wannabe meteorologist, I will admit to having received a book for Christmas in the mid-1970s about the looming ice age. Joe Bastardi acknowledges those times and the quick change to global warming and now climate change and the huge amounts of money supporting one-sided research. As Bastardi says, why not put the money towards other causes such as urban issues if the science is settled. And the labeling of people as climate deniers who oppose the one point of view is so juvenile, and he isn't afraid to call them out. Weather is cyclical - who knew? I'd give this a five star for boldness and steadfastness in the use of science but it is a tough read as this is a collection of communiques and therefore there is a lot of repetition.

This is the best of the three books I have read on this subject. I am a retired physician. I gave up on the medical profession twenty two years ago as a source of income, because the medical profession ignores that nature has given us everything man needs for good Health and happiness, by simply eating the plants and animals given for to man by our creator. The need for
for drugs and removal of organs, ignores our past history of survival. Cooking plants and animals I think, along with adding man made chemicals to his cooked food is the primary cause of man's poor health today.

Challenge your beliefs
I tried to give this book 5 stars but an error kept happening...weird right!? If you want to challenge the mainstream thought process and like Joe you believe the earth goes through natural cycles than read this book. I have never paid any attention to the weather other than looking at my phone. I learned more about weather and climate from this book than I ever thought I would. Joe writes in a way that kept me reading and wanting to learn more. If you want to gain some real knowledge and understand the climate and weather better, than I can't stress enough for you to read this book.

Thank God for Joe Bastardi
A sane voice of reason in storm of political theater around climate predictions. It is good to know that Chicken Little’s (Bill Nye, Al Gore and the Pope) rant about the coming weather apocalypse has an opposing view based on sound science and history. I have had at least three educated friends express their concern about rapid sea level rise. I checked the NOAA site and found that the rate of rise has not hockey sticked upwards but is rising about one foot every hundred years. The same rate as in 1900. They should read Joe’s book.

Insightful Read Overall
At first, it was a hard read for me, especially with all that alien jargon, which I'm not familiar with, fortunately with some research it easied throughout the book.
Overall it was an insightful book for me to read, I'm always on the skeptic side, particularly when the govt promotes a matter but Joe Bastardi laid out the facts that I find it hard to deny.
It could've been really helpful if Joe put a simple definition for all the technical words beforehand or put them in a glossary for the average Joe and ditch the redundant information.
At first, it was a hard read for me, especially with all that alien jargon, which I'm not familiar with, fortunately with some research it easied throughout the book.

I am not a climate change denier. The Earth's climate changes constantly. Always has,always will. That's why Earth is such a dynamic life sustaining planet. What is troubling about this topic is the fact that the Climate Change Alarmists have their own political agendas.

It must be fantastic to be one as confident as Joe Badtardi about your calling...
You can’t make this up...climate IS changing...that is why climate is not weather...to forecast a day, a week, a month, a year in advance and be right 85% of the time tells one that Bastardi’s devotion to studying the ages and investing in something he is so passionate about is THE chemical/physical/biologic/etheric solution to us understanding this Climate Change Thing.

Right on, Joe
I have this book a 5 rating because of the research Joe has done . His common sense approach to this climate issue is heartfelt and meaningful. He does not preach. He states FACTS. FACTS are what the climate change proponents ignore. They just call anyone who disagrees with them names!! (deniers! perverse!)That is the LOWEST form of debate!!! The climate has changed in the past when there were very few people and ALWAYS will. Get with the program!!!!

The book is a compilation of blogs. It can be a bit disjointed, but is full of important and relevant historical facts which place the “climate change” crusade in a much-needed perspective.

Not much here
This book is just a running list of climate change counter examples. It’s interesting to see examples that challenge the information we see in the press, it makes for a boring book. I think it’s mostly because the content is just from blogs. It would have been more compelling with better organization

As the late Christopher Hitchens said, "That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.” This book has no citations or footnotes. The only attempt to add references is a list of websites, none of which are linked to scientific agencies or journals. This is one book that I will dismiss.

Love it, believe it too.
Very well written and since I have always been skeptical of the so called Global Warming scare tactics. The sadness is that too many have no knowledge of history. The amount of money being expended on Global warming theory could solve many other problems.
