The Greek Escape is the perfect summer read or even winter, as it is in Australia now, for that matter.

I was ready for a light summer romance read, ChickLit maybe. However this was so much more. As the story commences the reader is plunged straight into a mystery.

’This was not living. It was no life. She would be gone, yes. But she would also be free.’

Chloe flees England to recover from a broken heart and what better place to go than the company’s New York office leaving a whole ocean between herself and her hurt.
Chloe Marston is the corporate partnership director at Invicta, a high profile concierge company getting top-end clients their exclusive holidays and elusive chalets. Chloe’s job is to liaise with other companies, exclusive bars and 5 star restaurants but when life-style manager Poppy is unable to do her job Chloe must step in and is suddenly thrown into the whacky and extravagant world of the rich and famous as she takes on Poppy’s client base.

The main story is about Chloe and how she handles this new lifestyle whilst trying to recover from a broken heart. Chloe is quiet and reserved. She doesn’t believe in her own talent and worries she’s not sophisticated or pretty enough for the job. Chloe is surrounded by plenty of flamboyant and effervescent characters. Her good friend Elle, six foot tall with model looks and of Ghanaian descent, comes in and out of the story encouraging Chloe to step out of her comfort zone. Her sister, Kate, although living in England is in constant contact and a wonderful support to Chloe and the office gossip, Xan, was a wonderful addition and a campaigner for Chloe.

Chloe’s high profile clients are amusing with their outlandish demands. They are all hugely rich and just a little bit scary. Then there is Joe who wants Chloe to find a secluded house on a Greek Island. He is gorgeous, young and very down to earth. Almost too good to be true!
There is plenty of chemistry between the two but Chloe knows never to fraternise with a client. However the more time she spends with Joe in Greece the more she realises this is where she should be, away from the technology and pressure, where no one can find her.

There is also a side story told in separate chapters. This story had an underlying ominous feel and I was eager to see where this and the main story would intercept and when they do the story takes a turn as there are sinister undertones lurking just below the surface of this sweet romance as Chloe is mixed up in corporate take-overs, corruption and nefarious activities.

The story wrapped up well with a few surprises along the way. The Greek escape is a recommended read and I was held captivated from beginning to end. I will be on the lookout for more Karen Swan titles.

Mysterious, enticing, and wickedly entertaining!

The Greek Escape is a provocative thrill ride that takes you on a journey into the life of the heartbroken, hardworking Chloe as she juggles relocation, a high-pressure career, a two-timing ex, the whims and dalliances of the rich and famous, and a cocky, demanding, handsome new client.

The prose is evocative and polished. The characters are inquisitive, ambitious, and spontaneous. The settings are exotic and picturesque. And the plot is a true guilty pleasure that's packed with action, humour, suspense, drama, corruption, scandals, sex, and romance.

The Greek Escape is a fresh, sophisticated, addictive novel with irresistible characters that I devoured from start to finish. I'm a huge fan of Karen Swan, and this novel didn't disappoint. It enthralled, captivated, and amused me, and I highly recommend it.

After reading (and loving) the Hidden Beach by Karen Swan, as part of the Tandem readalong, the whole group fell in love with Karen's writing, so we decided to continue the streak with reading another book. We chose the Greek Escape, because it was suited perfectly for the summer month of August.

Synopsis:

Running from a heartbreak, Chloe leaves London for a fresh start in New York. She works for a luxury concierge company, where she looks after client's arrangements and event management. But when her friend and colleague Poppy has a terrible accident, she needs to step up and fill her role. This role involves direct customer contact with the clients, which was different to what Chloe was used to.

This is how she meets Joe Lincoln, who asks her to find a secluded holiday home in Greece. You would think all goes by the plan, but her ex, Tom, unexpectedly shows up in New York and she is faced with issues from the past that she wants to run away from. He is the man who has hurt her before, but says he's changed.

She immediately jumps to the chance to help Joe inspect the holiday house - a trip to Greece will give her all the time and space she needs to sort her life out and decide what she wants to do next.

Her mind still unsure about Tom, she also forms a connection with Joe. Even though very mysterious and somehow secluded, there is an undeniable chemistry between them that Chloe is unable to resist. Should she give a second chance to the man she loved for years and years, or is it time for something brand new?

My Thoughts:

This book is perfect to help you forget the current pandemic and give you a nice summer vibe. Even though it’s not entirely set in Greece, but rather mostly set in New York. That being said, Chloe does also travel to the south of France and there are plenty of summer holiday vibes throughout the book as a whole.

Karen Swan won me over with her writing again.

The description of places, events and characters are so lively and colourful. I felt like I knew Chloe. When she is out for a drink, I felt like I am her friend. When she was in the office, I felt like a colleague. Something that also attracts me to Karen’s writing is her ability to fully materialise the antagonists as well. Even when they have ill intentions or do something bad, she is able to make the readers understand the reasoning behind it and accept it, no matter how wrong it may be.

The premise and the plot were very interesting, and the mystery behind Poppy’s attack kept me glued to the book. I loved how there was suspense in each chapter and slowly revealing the clues.

I felt for Chloe, when it came to her love life. She forgives Tom for years, and all he does is hurt her and then apologise for it! I think she deserves way better, and she should’ve ditched him the first time he screwed up.

I really enjoyed the Greek Escape, and I loved the ending. It was satisfying, how everything ended and was glad Chloe could find true happiness and peace in the end. I definitely recommend this book, and will continue reading Karen Swan’s books with excitement.

This is my fourth Karen Swan novel and they were all 5 star reads. This is the first one I did not enjoy. It pains me to give it such a low rating.

This is the first Karen Swan novel that I haven’t loved. I didn’t like the main character Chloe, the love interest or the story. It was problematic from the beginning and did not redeem itself at any point. The whole high end concierge business is interesting and I’m sure it exists but I really can’t be expected to like the people who provide this service, or those who use it. I was pissy about it right from the start as two of the characters laugh about a client’s request for live penguins to mingle at a party and try to arrange having some helicoptered into the party. I’m horrified that anyone would think this was funny or cute. It’s just sad and awful! This happens at the very beginning of the book and my distaste may have tainted the rest of the story for me.

I thought maybe the inevitable love story would redeem things but sadly the main love interest was cold and distant, except when he was forcing Chloe to do what he wanted. I’m not into men who won’t take no for an answer. It’s not romantic or sexy. It’s controlling and scary. Being a billionaire/millionaire who is used to getting his way doesn’t excuse this behavior. A rich asshole is still an asshole.

I will be the first to admit that I have really terrible taste in men but Chloe takes the booby prize as the absolute worst. She seems completely oblivious to how awful her choices are and when confronted with the truth of their awfulness she goes back for more. It was absolutely infuriating and made her seem like an airhead. I’m accustomed to Karen Swan’s heroines being smart and strong, not being blindly led my men. It was a total disappointment.

Of course there is a happy ending and everything is wrapped up perfectly which required quite a bit of exciting hi-jinx from the characters. Unfortunately instead of being part of the action we are just told what they did to get to the happy ending as they all sit around and reminisce about how they got there. It's all telling and no showing. It was kind of like the end of an episode of Scooby Doo when they pull the mask off the monster and Velma in a monologue would explain how she came to her unlikely conclusions. I want to see how it happened not just hear the story after it's all over!

I'm sad to say this book was just an over all disaster. I'm giving it bonus points because Karen Swan is one of my favorite authors but this is definitely not her best work.

Gera knyga, aišku vietomis kelis kartus teko pavartyti akis dėl pagrindinės veikėjos Klojos pasirinkimų, bet knyga tinkama pravedinti galvai ypač vasarą po sunkios darbo dienos. 😉

I'm so mad that this wasn't the cheesiest thing I've ever read. It was actually really good and I'm conflicted LOL Then again, I live for cheesy, so maybe I have a high tolerance for it now. I do wish there was more that actually took place in Greece, but overall it was really enjoyable. I knew what was going on from the beginning and I called most of the twists, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment in the end. It wasn't quite five-stars for reasons I can't quite put my finger on, but I would definitely recommend!

The Globe and Mail bestselling author Karen Swan knows how to brew the perfect escapist tale. Without fail, Swan sets her novels in exotic faraway places readers can only dream of. She also pits her characters against the odds in her setting choice and adds in a dash of romance. In this particular tale, The Greek Escape, we get all of the above, along with a great central mystery. The Greek Escape is one old fans and new of Swan’s work will not want to pass up.

The Greek Escape introduces the lead character of Chloe Marston. This London gal decides to trade her broken heart and life in London for a fresh start in glamorous New York. Chloe has quite the job, she works for a luxury concierge company. Chloe is a genie in a bottle of sorts, granting the wishes and every whim of her demanding clients. When an accident derails the career of one of Chloe work colleagues, Chloe must quickly step up and take on a new client list. One of these clients is Joe Lincoln, a man who knows how to get exactly what he wants. He immediately sets Chloe off on a mission to find him a hideaway holiday home in the Greek Islands region. With a heavy heart, Chloe decides this task is right up her alley, it will distract her from her awful love life. However, complications come in the form of Tom, Chloe’s ex, who turns up unannounced in Manhattan, throwing Chloe’s new life into disarray. While Chloe searches for Joe’s perfect holiday home in Greece, she grapples with her mixed feelings. Can she forgive her ex, Tom? Or, should she try her luck with a new romance with Joe, her client? While Chloe’s heart is aflutter, other more pressing events occur. A missing client and an allegation about Joe come to light. Chloe must decide where her heart lies and who she can place her trust in, before time gets away with her.

I have to confess I requested this book based on two reasons. Firstly, Karen Swan’s track record is overwhelmingly positive, I have enjoyed all novels I have read by Swan. Secondly, I fell in love with the cover of The Greek Escape. Greece is at the top of my travel bucket list, so as soon as I saw the stunning white buildings with blue doors, along with hot pink flowers, I knew I HAD to read this book!

The setting is by far the highlight of this novel and Swan clearly knows the Greek Islands off the back of her hand. The locale descriptions in this novel are divine and read just like a travel memoir. I wanted more and much more! The Greek Escape is pure escapist fiction. I lapped up The Greek Escape, especially as I read this book on a wild and windy day in my lounge room. It gave me the warmth, sunshine and positivity I so needed!

Swan’s characterisation is always of a high standard and The Greek Escape is no exception. Chloe was a great leading lady. I genuinely liked her as a person and cared about her character journey. Swan handles the interactions between Chloe and the other players in this novel with ease. The secondary characters that fill the pages of The Greek Escape are intriguing and add depth to the unfolding tale.

The plot itself is easy to follow and highly readable. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of The Greek Escape. I also appreciated how the romance was understated and didn’t detract from the main events of the novel. Swan maintains a steady pace and adds in some plot twists to keep the reader engaged. The resolution of events was very satisfying. The approach taken in the epilogue was a great move by Swan.

In closing this review, I feel I must mention the ‘Acknowledgements’ section of The Greek Escape, which caught my attention. In this final section of the book, Karen Swan outlines the muse for this novel was a donkey she recalled from a long ago trip to the island of Hydra. It is easy to see Swan’s love of this location, it shines through her novel and this excitement rubs off onto the reader. The Greek Escape is a book for all seasons, a winter warmer, a summer beach bag read, a spring fling or one for cool autumn nights. Recommended.

Ach Gott!

Suorganizuosim. Remontuojamas Tadž Mahalis, kai oligarchas atskrido jo apžiūrėti? Tuoj bus nuimti visi pastoliai.

Disappointed that despite the cover and the title only a few chapters were set in Greece! I know it’s fiction but I just couldn’t believe in the story or the characters, so far-fetched that for me, it was ridiculous rather than funny!

I'll start by saying I was just mildly disappointed that we didn't get to see more of Greece than a small bit in this book.

However that really was my only fault as I really enjoyed the rest of it, And by the end the title even made sense to me!

I loved Chloe's job and the demands the ultra rich were making on her. A luxury concierge service sounds like an interesting place to work.

I also really enjoyed getting to know Chloe although I found her taste in men to be rather shocking!

There is mystery, intrigue, great locations, and an overall good story.

This was a lovely bit of escapism that I enjoyed reading poolside one morning on holiday.

"The Greek Escape" is another glamorous, provocative and captivating novel by Karen Swan. It introduces us to Chloe Marston - who after a painful heart - break relocates from London to New York. She works for a luxury concierge company, granting wishes and every whim of their clients. After an accident that happened to one of her colleagues, Chloe must step up and take over Poppy's clients. One of them is Joe Lincoln, whose wish is for Chloe to find him a hideaway holiday cottage in Greece.
In the meantime, Chloe's ex, Tom, appears again on the scenes, messing with her and her life again. She's torn and absolutely doesn't know what to do - try her luck again with Tom and ignore this increasing chemistry between her and Joe? Joe, who also brings some complications?

Karen Swan's writing style is engaging, rich in descriptions and eloquent, and there is always a word or two that I've never heard before, well, we learn the whole life, right. The setting she's chosen for "The Greek Escape" is maybe not as exotic and unusual as in some of her previous books, but the way she describes New York and Greece is absolutely refreshing and simply gorgeous and she easily brings the places to life. She also adds a gem or two of a place that you'll never read about in other books and it's like discovering them together with the characters.

Who, by the way, are brilliant. They're ambitious but not in a negative way - well, some of them are - quirky, clever and inquisitive. Chloe was immediately likeable - she was normal and she knew where her priorities should be, although she made me feel really desperate when it came to her love life. However, this hesitation and uncertainty only made her feel much more realistic and closer to life, and really, I truly cared about her and there were moments that I was really scared about her.
Chloe is our main character and narrator, however every now and then we get chapters told from another character's point of view - Elodie. Yes, I did wonder how she's connected with Chloe, if they're connected at all and how those subplots align, however it didn't take long to guess and to put the puzzles together. There was one missing piece still but it was all neatly and clearly wrapped up at the end, which is simply great, as I really like to know why, who, when and what.

The plot of "The Greek Escape" is so unique! Already the idea of the company Chloe works for was so refreshing, different and intriguing and I felt myself sucked into the descriptions of the things and events they organize for their clients, in their worlds where the word "no" didn't exist. This story was evocative and packed with everything I've expected from the author and more: humour and drama, action, murder, scandals, corruption and of course extraordinary romances.

What I so adore in Karen Swan's books is the way she so effortlessly mixes glamour, the world of prominent and exotic places with the brilliant, immediately likeable and down - to - earth characters. Her stories, and "The Greek Escape" as well, are multi - layered and complex and full of twists and turns and there is always an element of mystery in them, which I honestly love. It was refreshing and sophisticated and I didn't want to put it down. And I also didn't want it to end! Highly recommended!

What I like -
Lovely Cover 😍

What I don't like -
Bland and easily predictable plot
Boring characters and narration

Final Verdict -
Not recommended at all.

I don't think I will pick Karen Swan's other work anytime soon. This chick-lit story was not my cup of tea, and I will not recommend it, but if you still want to read it, go ahead.

I had such high expectations going into this and sadly, they didn't deliver. Maybe it's my fault, but from the title, cover and synopsis, I was expecting a cute romance taking place in Greece. But actually, it takes 200 pages for them to get to Greece and only like 60-70 pages actually take place in Greece, so that was a big disappointment.

I also wouldn't have qualified this book as a romance novel, which would have been okay if not for the romance between the main character and the love interest to be so rushed, underdeveloped and flat. I absolutely thought they had no chemistry at all. One day they talk a little bit and the other they're in love and she can't stop thinking about him, but she's also still kinda in love with her ex? Makes no sense to me.

The 'good' part for me would be the mystery aspect, but that only came up in the 150 last pages or so. But that definitely kept me reading and it's the only reason it got 2.5 stars instead of 2.

So yeah I went into this expecting so much more than what I got so disappointment is the word I'm thinking of when I think of this book.

**

OHH wow I need to read this.
1) Greece is the #1 country I want to visit and I've always wanted to go there so reading about books taking place in Greece make me super happy (and also super jealous. I used to really want to be Lena from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants haha)
2) The main character's name is Chloe! I don't think I've ever read a book with my name as the main character's name so this is exciting!!

This is a great book to grab for summer beach reading. I have enjoyed Swan's previous works and this one does not disappoint. Set in New York and the Mediterranean, the settings sizzle just as much as the plot itself. This is a nice beach romance with an unexpected mystery as well.
Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this novel.

RECENSIONE QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.com/...

description
Deve dire basta all’ex oppure deve concedergli un’altra possibilità? Perché nonostante tutto pensa a Joe?

THE GREEK ESCAPE is another delicious escapist read by Karen Swan, who allows us to travel vicariously even in times of the never-ending lockdowns. Destination: the beautiful Greek Isles. And as per usual, the story contains a bit of everything – some intrigue, some mystery, a bit of romance and fascinating details about the lives of the rich and famous. I never knew that there was such a thing as a lifestyle manager who caters for all the whims of the wealthy, and some of it still blows my mind. During this last year, I’ve become a great fan of Swan’s ability to evoke a strong sense of place and take me armchair travelling to the most enticing locations. Very enjoyable indeed!

A Romantic Thriller, The Greek Escape takes us to the islands of Greece. Along with that, there’s a mystery that needs solving – a story of love and betrayal, friendship and trust.

While the story was very slow initially, it picks up pace sooner and the thrill gets better. Chloe and Joe are extremely interesting characters, and most importantly, they are quite opposite to each other. Their character develops suddenly so I would say it was a bumpy ride.
The story also lacks that romantic chemistry element and I felt that the author wanted to keep the Romance to a minimum. A lot of focus was given on other everyday events and interaction between different characters, which feels important only towards the far end of the book.

The Greek Escape is an easy going and relaxing read, that you can pick up whenever you wanna take a break from everything.

*Intrigue & Betrayal*

After having her heartbroken by Tom her on off boyfriend of 4 years who continually promised to to break off his relationship with someone else Chloe decides to leave the U.K. and goes to New York.

Curiously Chloe is working for the company that Tom co owns, a luxury concierge company which that organises the lives of the super rich who I just had no time for. They ask for the ridiculous and their every wish is met 👀

Chloe is settling into her role then a shocking accident happens involving her close colleague Poppy, this means Chloe has to step in and take on the powerful clients on Poppy’s books and still keep up the service they expect.

This curveball also brings Tom back to New York. When a mysterious client Joe turns up not on her colleagues books but claiming to have arranged to meet Poppy, Chloe decides to go ahead and deal with him.

This client wants a remote hideaway place in Greece, something maybe not even on the books. In an effort to get away from Tom, Chloe ups and leaves and joins Joe on a private plane destination Greece, whilst working closely with him a growing attraction starts to form. He is her client so she struggles to remain professional, can she resist??

Whilst she is away one of their biggest client’s wife goes missing!!!

Then Chloe leaves Greece abruptly after overhearing Joe on a whispered phone call she assumes she may become the other woman AGAIN!!!

But there is more to the missing moguls wife and lies and secrets start to unravel and Chloe has to decide what is the truth then things get very tricky indeed….. was Poppy’s accident just that??

As a big fan of Greece, I actually hoped that this would be some travelog of Greece, its islands, picturesque villages...
That it would be much more about Greek culture, lifestyle, food and similar things. Unfortunately, the Greece was shown for about 30 pages and it wasn't something that would make you want to go there.

Chloe was not as likeable as she could've been. I hated how naive and stupid she has been. It made me a bit mad how gullible she was about Tom. Have some respect for yourself, girl...
The plot was a little bit all over the place, the mystery about Poppy's accident, Elodie's kidnapping, Joe's true identity was quite interesting but very predictable if you ask me.

I'm somehow not at all satisfied with this book. I've had higher expectations, found it as a perfect summer read, but frankly, there was no summer vibe at all.

I’m not sure I can express how much I loved this book. I’m a Karen Swan super fan anyway, but The Greek Escape was something else! The plot is so twisty and clever, the romance is beyond brilliant and sizzling, the settings are stunning. I have never been so close to wanting to flip ahead to the end to check it would all play out how I needed it to. The hero is amazing! Oh God, this book guys... my favourite read of 2018 without a doubt. Can it be bettered? I don’t know...

The Green Escape
4.5 stars

Karen swan won me over. This is my debuut novel by KS and I loved it! The tension, the romance, secrets, a lot of traveling and very interesting characters. The plot twist was amazing. I can't say anything else than go get yourself a copy of this book.

I will spend the next hour debating which of her other books I am going to read.

My first Karen Swan book and it didn’t disappoint.

This book wasn’t what I was expecting at all which was a very pleasant surprise. The story was tied up nicely at the end which I really liked and it didn’t seem rushed at all.

I think the title was more about how Elodie manages to escape her life with a controlling husband to a little Greek island rather than the story actually being set in Greece, if that makes sense. So if you’re expecting a chick lit book set on an idyllic Greek island then this is not the book for you. There is much more to the story than that and that is why I was pleasantly surprised.

3.5 stars from me but have put it up to 4 stars as I feel it’s better than 3.
