Jame, an Emoran princess and assistant arbiter, takes on the most difficult case at the military compound in Ynit: arguing for the rehabilitation of former Supreme Commander, Tigh the Terrible. Between Jame's changing feelings for her childhood sweetheart and pressure to return home, and Tigh's rejection of the family business, they become kindred spirits in their struggles against family and societal expectations. Will they be able to break from their inherited paths and achieve their dream of a future together?
T.J. Mindancer is as fictional as the Emoria Tales. She has a passing resemblance to C.A. Casey. Mindancer only pens works that take place in the Emoria Universe. (from the publisher's website)
Goodreads ate my previous review. So I'll try to replicate it.
This isn't high fantasy. There's no need to submerge yourself in deep and complicated lore with weird alphabets etc. But it's good. Low stakes. No big overblown drama, which is surprising for a book about rehabilitating brainwashed murder-machine child soldiers and about a princess of a seclusionist country turned lawyer who defies expectations of a whole nation while dating said redeemed murder-machine. I liked Jame and Tigh, I rooted for them and generally I had a lot of fun reading this book. It was a nice and relaxing read. I can wholeheartedly recommend it. Plus the reverse sexism is funny AF. "Who would trust a male soldier to protect them... Men are naturally of a more gentle disposition"
I loved it. It was a very sweet and easy read. No high drama or death of beloved characters. Problems with easily found solutions. It was just what I needed light and enjoyable. I love Tigh and Jame. I really enjoy reading their story.
