About the author

Carrie Hope Fletcher is an English actress, author and singer-songwriter.

She played Eponine in the West End production of Les Miserables at the Queen's Theatre until February 13th 2016. She is the first actress to have played both young Eponine and older Eponine. In 2019, she returned to Les Miserables as Fantine.

Fletcher played Truly Scrumptious in the UK touring production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and Wednesday Addams in the UK touring production of The Addams Family. She then starred as Veronica Sawyer in the UK production of Heathers: The Musical.

Her debut book, All I Know Now: Wonderings and Reflections on Growing Up Gracefully was published in May 2015. Her first fiction novel, On the Other Side was published in July 2016.

Fletcher is well known for her YouTube channel where she shares videos about her life and her work as an actress and author.

I've been in a reading slump for a while and this helped me get back into reading. It's a very short story but with cute details. This story is written in the male leads way - his story to share.
It's unfortunate that they weren't able to get their happy ending when they were alive but they were able to get it when they were both dead.
I can't wait to read the book from the female leads side to know how she felt when she had to choose family over her love.

I didn't quite think Evie and Vincent's story had quite been rounded off. This was a nice little extra to complete the fantastic On the other side novel. Finding this on my bookshelf several weeks later when the story still stands out to me was a pleasant surprise.

This year Carrie Hope Fletcher’s On the Other Side turned out to be one of my favourite reads of the year, so I was thrilled to hear she had written a short novella sequel for it. I pre-ordered it instantly, but upon reading Winter’s Snow in just one sitting I left feeling more than a little disappointed with this piece.

One of my main concerns with this novella was just how short it truly is, just 41 small pages in length, making it more a short story or novelette than novella. I felt this left little room for depth and development in regards to both character and plot within the story Fletcher was trying to tell. In addition to this large portions of the story felt as though they had simply been lifted straight from On the Other Side, merely extensively condensed to fit the far shorter word count. This left me feeling as though characters were flat and much of the plot forced, which truly saddens me after how much I cared for these same characters in the main story.

That is not to say Fletcher’s writing falls short. Though a little more lax with cliches than her writing had appeared in On the Other Side, Winter’s Snow holds just the same deep and welcoming warmth I found in the original story. So much of Fletcher’s personality shows through her writing in the best ways, but I maintain her writing is at its best when not confined by word count.

What I came to enjoy about this story most, however, was the small nods to On the Other Side. Though each scene was short and quickly concluded, I feel these glimpses into Vincent’s point of view helped to flesh out more of the magical world Fletcher has created. My only wish is that things would have been taken further than they were, beyond Vincent’s lifelong yearning for Evie and Eleanore’s failings as a mother.

Though Winter’s Snow did not give me the same level of satisfaction I was granted after reading On the Other Side, I would recommend it still to anyone hoping to see more of Fletcher’s work. As for me, although I found short moments heartwarming and interesting, I don’t believe this story necessary to fully appreciate the world and story Fletcher created, having gained a much stronger sense of closure and satisfaction upon reaching the end of On the Other Side.

Carrie Hope Fletcher's novella Winters' Snow of On the Other Side tells us the After Life story of Vincent Winter, Evie Snow's love of her life.

Winter's Snow is a really short novella, so the plot happened very fast, but I loved every bit of it. Reading Vincent's attempt to reach the After Life and finally see Evie again is very well written. I just can't get over the fact that Carrie writes in such a beautiful and magical way. I fell in love with her writing. Reading it sounds like magic!

It was really lovely to hear from other people we got to meet in On the Other Side again. Some of them deserve far more back information than we have now.

Reading this short book was a really lovely thing and I am happy I managed to do it before my exams. It filled me with a lot more spirit.

Kind of felt unnecessary since it was so short. I think it would have worked better being bonus content in On The Other Side rather than its own book. Most novellas are much longer than 41 pages, so it almost felt like a waste of money for something that doesn't really add to the main story

Meine Meinung

Eine Liebe ohne Winter von Carrie Hope Fletcher ist ein märchenhafter Roman über die große Liebe und ein Leben nach dem Tod, der mich von der ersten Seite an verzaubert hat. Die Autorin erzählt in ihrem angenehmen und bildlichen Schreibstil davon, was Evie nach ihrem Tod erwartet, nämlich eine zweite Chance alles wieder ins Lot zu bringen. Der Roman ist in drei Teile geteilt, die jeweils ein Geheimnis von Evie umfassen. Während zwischen den Teilen Evies Erlebnisse in der Welt nach dem Tod und der Welt der Lebenden geschildert werden und die Handlung immer wieder zwischen der Gegenwart und Vergangenheit wechseln.

Der Roman behandelt eine Version des Lebens nach dem Tod, die mich sehr berührt hat und auch nach der Lektüre noch lange beschäftigt hat. Dabei webt die Autorin geschickt einige märchenhafte und fantastische Elemente ein, die der Geschichte einen besonderen Hauch verleihen. Beim Lesen des Buchs konnte ich mich einem eindeutigen Vergleich der Geschichte nicht verwehren. Und zwar bestehen durch die drei Geheimnisse denen sich Evie stellen muss und dem guten Geist der ihr dabei hilft große Parallelen zu Charles Dickens' Weihnachtsgeschichte über den kaltherzigen Geizkragen Ebenezer Scrooge.

Dadurch, dass Evie sich nach und nach ihren Geheimnissen stellen muss, möchte man als Leser diese unbedingt aufdecken und die Folgen für Evies Liebsten erfahren. Neben der berührenden Liebesgeschichte um Evie und Vincent war dies ein Grund, warum ich dem Buch regelrecht verfallen bin. Evies turbulente Vergangenheit voller Liebe, Hass, Intrigen und Aufopferung haben mir eine Achterbahnfahrt der Gefühle beschert, die ich nicht so schnell vergessen werde. Dazu kommt ein sehr emotionales Finale, das mich wirklich zu Tränen gerührt hat.

Fazit

Eine Liebe ohne Winter von Carrie Hope Fletcher ist ein wundervoll emotionaler Roman über die große Liebe, Aufopferung und das Leben nach dem Tod. Verwoben mit märchenhaften Elementen und einer deutlichen Ähnlichkeit zu Charles Dickens' Weihnachtsgeschichte hat mich das Buch von der ersten Seite an begeistert. Das emotionale Auf und Ab des Buchs voller Liebe, Hass, Intrigen und Hoffnung hat mich tief berührt. Jedem Freund von emotionalen Liebesromanen kann ich dieses Buch nur wärmstens empfehlen.

Für das Buch habe ich mich entschieden, weil ich das Cover und auch den Klappentext sehr ansprechend fand. Ich kann aber jetzt nach Beendigung sagen, dass es mich mehr als begeistert hat.

Ich fand es wahnsinnig interessant und gefühlvoll beschrieben, wie Evies Reise in die Vergangenheit abläuft. Es ist nämlich so, dass uns die Autorin diese Reise an einem bestimmten Punkt in Evies Leben erzählt. hier möchte ich aber nicht zuviel verraten, denn ansonsten ist der ganze Charme weg. Als Leser bekommt doch so einige Dinge aus Evies Leben erzählt und ich fand viele davon sehr überraschend und manche haben mich auch emotional doch etwas belastet. Es war aus meiner Sicht eine tolle Liebesgeschichte, die uns hier zwischen Evie und Vincent erzählt wird, allerdings war es kein typischer Liebesroman. Auch etwas überraschend für mich.

Das Ende fand ich wahnsinnig schön und romantisch. Ich muss aber gestehen, dass ich es doch etwas anders erwartet hätte, aber es war dafür umso schöner.

Toll fand ich auch, wie die Autorin uns Einblicke in das Leben der Frauen in der Vergangenheit gegeben hat. Ich stelle mir schon vor, dass es damals nicht immer sehr leicht gewesen war.

Evie fand ich einen wahnsinnig sympathischen Hauptcharakter. Ich fand sie sehr nett und authentisch beschrieben. Mir hat vor allem ihr Willen gefallen, allerdings zeigt sich im Laufe der Handlung, dass sie durch diverse Entscheidungen, sehr an ihrer Familie hängt.

Die Nebencharaktere möchte ich ebenso loben. Diese wurden toll beschrieben und charakterlich sehr gut dargestellt.

Die Schreibweise der Autorin war sehr locker und flüssig. Das Buch hat sich sehr gut lesen lassen und auch die Handlung war sehr gut verständlich beschrieben, obwohl es diverse Ortswechsel und Zeitsprünge gibt. Die Handlung wird uns die meiste Zeit aus der Sicht von Evie erzählt.

Das Cover muss ich ebenfalls nochmals loben. Mir gefällt die Gestaltung und der Farbwahl sehr gut.

"Eine Liebe ohne Winter" von Carrie Hope Fletscher hatte mein Interesse aufgrund des Klappentextes geweckt. Daher war ich zunächst dankbar, den Roman als Rezensionsexemplar lesen zu dürfen. Allerdings muss ich gestehen, dass die Ernüchterung dann beim Lesen kam. Von Anfang an habe ich keinen Draht zur Hauptfigur Evie bekommen, da sie mir etwas unnahbar erschien und der Beginn des Romans auch zu starke Parallelen zu Charles Dickens "Der Geist von Weihnachten" zieht.
Evie stirbt im Alter von 82 Jahren und findet sich plötzlich in einer Zwischenwelt wieder. Sie darf erst in den Himmel, wenn sie ihr Leben und ihre Seele bereinigt hat, denn da ist ihre nie vergessene große Liebe Vincent, den sie nie ganz losgelassen hat. Die beiden konnten aufgrund von Evies Familie kein Leben zusammenführen, auch wenn sie noch so sehr ineinander verliebt waren. Stattdessen hat Evie den ebenfalls wohlhabenden Sohn der Nachbarn geheiratet und mit ihm zwei Kinder bekommen, für die sich sich aufgeopfert hat.
Dieser Roman hat vom Grundgedanken her durchaus Potential. Allerdings driftet meiner Ansicht nach der Roman zu Beginn zu sehr ins Fantasygenre ab, so dass die weitere Handlung von den ersten Eindrücken des Romans zu sehr beeinflusst werden.
Ich hatte starke Schwierigkeiten mit den oftmals etwas sprunghaften Schreibstil der Autorin. Teils wusste ich nicht direkt ob ich mich gerade in der Vergangenheit oder Gegenwart befinde.
Und auch wenn die Lebensumstände von Evie teils wirklich erschreckend sind, konnten mich diese in diesem Roman nicht so recht zu Herzen rühren. Dieser Roman hat gutes Potential, welches er jedoch leider aufgrund eines missglückten zu langen Starts verschenkt. Ich war zwischendurch immer wieder drauf und dran das Buch abzubrechen, da ich keine Draht zur Handlung und seinen Figuren fand!

Fazit:
"Eine Liebe ohne Winter" von Carrie Hope Fletscher hat mir persönlich leider so gar nicht zugesagt, da mir der Roman anfangs zunächst zu Fantasylastig daherkommt und außerdem leider auch immer wieder zu sehr springt.
Daher von mir leider keine Lesempfehlung!

Als sich Evie Snow und Vincent Winters kennenlernen, wissen sie sofort, dass es die große Liebe ist. Doch Evies reiche Eltern sind sehr konservativ und Vincent ist in keinem Fall standesgemäß, daher verbieten sie ihr den Umgang mit ihm, oder Evie wird enterbt. Das wäre ihr eigentlich egal, wenn da nicht ihr Bruder Eddie wäre, der große Probleme hat und den sie gerne beschützen möchte.

Meine Meinung:
An diesem Buch hat mich sofort das wunderschöne Cover angesprochen. Und genauso schön wie das Cover fand ich auch die Geschichte. Anhand des Klappentextes habe ich allerdings in eine ganz andere Richtung gedacht, war dafür aber sehr angenehm überrascht, dass es hier auch magisch zugeht. Ich liebe es nämlich, wenn Geschichten etwas übersinnlich angehaucht sind.
Evie mochte ich sofort und sie hat auch genauso gehandelt, wie ich es in ihrer Situation gemacht hätte. Sie ist eine stets positiv denkende junge Frau, die nie an sich selbst denkt, sondern immer für andere da ist. Ich fand ihre Idee wunderschön, mit der sie Vincent auf sich aufmerksam gemacht hat.
Wie schön für sie, dass es gleich zwei tolle Männer in ihrem Leben gibt, ich mochte jedenfalls Vincent und Jim gleich gerne, jeder hat seine ganz eigene liebenswürdige Art.
Die Autorin schreibt sehr leicht und flüssig, so dass die Seiten nur so dahinfliegen und baut eben diese ganz besonderen magischen Momente mit ein. Die Idee mit Täubchen fand ich wirklich etwas ganz besonderes.
Ich habe viele Passagen mehrmals gelesen, Carrie Hope Fletcher schreibt auch sehr poetisch, was wunderschön zu lesen war.
Viel zu schnell ist man am Ende, welches die Geschichte aber perfekt abgerundet hat.
Da ich so ein tolles Gefühl beim Lesen hatte, möchte ich die Geschichte auch sehr gerne weiterempfehlen und vergebe 5 Sterne.

This was adorable but, in my mind, not entirely necessary. On the Other Side was very much Disney in a book and this novella follows on in that whimsical vein- the fact that this is an extension onto that story, however, allows Carrie to rectify the more melancholic aspects of that book. For me, that was where the strength of Carrie's story lay: the fact that she created very much an idyllic, fairy-tale romance and then just steered clear of all the stereotypes by having it that they actually weren't together in life. By stressing that they were together in death I think actually undercut the power of the story because, for me, a story does not need to have a happy ending unless absolutely necessary. I think that Carrie is a lovely writer and her stories are great in the way they aim to make the reader happy; consolatory books are few and far between and I am glad that there is a market for stories that try to show you that not all is as bad as it seems. Despite that, I think the poignancy of Carrie's "It's a Wonderful Life" type scenario can be undone by her tendency towards making her characters all essentially good people. Although I enjoyed all of Vincent's other encounters with various figures in his life, I think that his encounter with Evie's mother, Eleanor, where the latter is actually redeemed, undermined the impact of what happened in "On the Other Side" by making it appear a result of misguided love. This might just be unique to me and my preference towards morally grey characters, however, and, in fairness to Carrie, I am a stickler when it comes to additional little novellas.

Winters Snow is a simple concept from a philosophical thought we've all considered many a time and one that has echoed through film & literature: What If I'd Done This? But Carrie, with ever distinctive honed magical realist style, allows herself to write a short novella of the same topic but in her signature.

Its a soft, at time perhaps overly sentimental (cliché isn't the word but there are a couple parts that perhaps toe the line), tale of the afterlife and the reflection of life's choices.

Its sweet and compact and shows that Carrie's talent is as welcome in shorter pieces as it is in longer novels.

If nothing else, it's a snuggle of a book to read in the bath or with a hot chocolate as the winter brings its chill.

This was sooo good!!! Even though it's short, since it's a novella, I liked it very much. Vincent was my favourite character so I loved that it follows his journey in the afterlife. A lot of questions that I had at the end of On the Other Side were answered through this. We also got to see more of the afterlife and someone else's experience there, which I loved. It was a lot more creepier that the book. I'm so glad that I decided to pick this one up right after finishing On the Other Side. If you loved Vincent as much as I did, then I would urge you to pick this one up too.

This novella is based on the events that happened to Vincent after he ate a possible poisoned piece of fruit...

For Vincent to reach his heaven he also has to accomplish three things, such as Evie did to get to her heaven..

Will he succeed? Did he tell Evie’s mum straight? Did he fight for the woman he loved? Will they be reunited?

In the end him and his love are reunited and have the chance to live an eternity with each other ❤️ I love a good happy ending 📚

Actual rating: 4.5. Content was great, I liked reading from Vincents PoV and it was lovely to read a little more into the magical end of Vincent and Evie. I had to knock half a star off for the actual quality of the book. There isnt a spine which makes it look like just folded card and the edges of the pages were rough and jagged giving the novella an overall look of cheap and tacky which is a shame as the cover image is beautiful.
