I really liked this volume of Legend of Zelda manga. I always felt like there was something missing from these two games for me and the stories helped connect that piece for me.

Cute Manga. My favorite part was when Link saw a skeleton and didn't bat an eye saying, "It takes a few days for a person to turn to a skeleton."

Morbid af. Love it. 5 out of 5.

Zelda 4

A real treat for the lovers of the Legend of Zelda lore! As the title of the manga suggests, Volume 4 is split into two different stories: The Minish Cap and the Phantom Hourglass. I have recently played and completed Minish Cap, so it was a gentle nudge into the World of the Minish and Vaati, and heck - I enjoyed every second of it. The bond between Ezlo and Vaati, the classic Master Vs. Apprentice (very Anakin and Obi-Wan) vibe, was thought out and delivered a solid conclusion. There were a few bits I couldn't remember or hadn't been there initially, like the Cave of Flames' Gleeok shedding its malevolent carapace to become a cuter creature, but it simply added more to the lore.

The biggest surprise was how gripping the Phantom Hourglass was. I played it in the early days of 2007, but I couldn't enjoy it. The DS controls were clunky, the narrative felt unappealing, and it simply felt different in terms of the narrative. There was no Zelda, no Ganondorf, no Hyrule. Once I read this, though, my perception altered completely! It's a fantastic story that featured one of the most interesting characters of all time, Linebeck the Plundering Pirate. The villain Bellum was an interesting and welcome addition to Link's Rogue Gallery.

A very good manga. Next, it's time to read Ocarina of Time!

Before going into this, I've only played the main console Legend of Zelda's (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess), and besides Ages and Seasons, haven't played any of the handheld Zelda's.

Also, a good deal of people don't really like this style and art of Zelda. Me, personally, I don't mind it; most LoZ stories follow a child-aged Link and this style seems to show the youth, as well as the humor, a Zelda story can be. But, the humor also seems to be its downside, because some parts seem to try too hard at being humorous--especially Phantom Hourglass.

But then again, I haven't played Minish Cap or Phantom Hourglass, so I don't really know if the humor is the same in the game. And I know, a big Legend of Zelda fan like me hasn't played ALL of the games? I know, an unforgivable crime :'(

Favorite one out of the two: Minish Cap

MINISH CAP (5/5) -
Needed heavy consequence for Vaati - I'm not sure why it ended the way it did. I wanted JUSTICE!
BUT everything else was fabulous, minus Link's off personality change.

Zelda was PRECIOUS, I'm clearly a simp. The whole beginning of the story made me all jittery because of how cute, sweet & cheeky she is.

Lastly, the fantastical creatures, the Picori, were so adorable, I could eat them up! Best species in the whole series, I should think.

~

PHANTOM HOURGLASS (3.25/5) -
A slow start for me + I found the usual journey formula felt more convoluted this time because first they had to save someone, but to do that they had to grab x, but to grab x they had to do y & then z... It just felt longer than usual despite it clearly being the essence of the games.

But I ended up enjoying the dynamic of the gang eventually.
I vibe with Jolene, the pirate. I craved Zelda (she wasn't in the story at all for a long while). So naturally Jolene's temperament & Zelda's short badass featured moment were the best parts for me.

I found the whole conclusion of Tetra...unsatisfying. If you know, you know. WHY didn't they explain & explore her reveal at the end? I'm just supposed to forget about the cover-up?? Why didn't Link have questions? Frustrating~ But alas, it is how it is. & there are games & other books to consume to heal from the lack of detail and expansion.

Minish cap was a massive nostalgia trip!! I loved it!!! The cute moments with Zelda and Link were so good😭 and the picori from each region were so cutely designed. I played this game when I was in high school and it was really nice to see all of the elements in the game that I recognised.

Phantom hourglass was good. It's what dragged down the overall score for me. It felt really rushed at times. I feel like the fact that 2 games are in 1 book really quickens the pacing. But overall, it was an enjoyable read.

The Minish Cap was...ei. It was cute but nothing special. The only thing I found interesting is they did the Hyraul Graveyard storyline from Ocarina of Time; connecting the royal family to the Picori. (it might not be the exact storyline, but it has the same grave keeper, the hidden passage, being trapped, and the ghosts of the Royal Family in it...so large similarities) Still...it's an ok story.

The Phantom Hourglass was actually good. Typical collection story, but the character Linebeck was a surprisingly, interesting character. His backstory, redemption, and honestly the random "friend" that come out nowhere, actually made the story far more interesting.
I gotta knock it for the random sword coming out of nowhere, maybe the game has the storyline of the blacksmith and the sword and they choose not to use it in this book, but it's completely out of nowhere. It feels random and pointless. Just to have a new sword.
I had a problem with the Captian Tetra too. Her twist was obvious and kind of stupid. This story actually follows Minish Cap. You know that because Link states that he's a hero. He looks exactly like he did in Minish Cap too. But every story starts off the same, Link becoming a hero, not an already establish Hero; indicating previous experience. Plus Tetra's twist only confirms that, with the same power that appear in Minish Cap. So, how could Tetra possible be on the ship? Being the Captain? Even if you like, she wanted too, how can Link not know? He acts oblivious until the twist and that make absolutely no sense. So that whole storyline was...pointless for me. I knew from the second I look at Tetra.
I wish the story actually ended with information on the Ghost Ship, if it was fixed. If Linebeck is with his old crew or new crew. etc. We're just left with no answer for them. I didn't care if I didn't know what his wish was, but I'd like to know where he was in the end.

Overall, Minish Cap is ok. I liked Phantom Hour in general but found a lot wrong with it, but I still liked it for it's side stories.

I've never played The Minish Cap, but I enjoyed the manga. It was cute and funny. I love stories involving myths of "little helpers" that no one ever sees.
I played a decent chunk of Phantom Hourglass a long time ago. Apparently it's supposed to be a direct sequel to Wind Waker. Why is there no Wind Waker Manga? It's one of the most popular and well known Zelda games, so it would make sense if there were. Anyway, I don't remember much from the game, but reading this made the story feel a bit rushed. I can't put my finger on why, but I feel like it's lacking something. According to the bonus information, they tried for a lot of jokes. I didn't think much of it was funny, though. Overall, this one was okay.

The Minish Cap story section was just ok. Me PERSONALLY, I would have ended Vaati right there and then but oh well. I do think The Phantom Hourglass carries this book much more though. It might just be a thing about my childhood and how I played the DS game a lot, but it just resonated more with me. I do want to add that to me the themes of Minish Cap weren't too well fleshed out. A good book overall, but it's once again limited by it being confined to one volume.

This legendary edition combines The Minish Cap and the Phantom Hourglass mangas. These were another two very great reads. I felt that of all the ones so far, these did the best at following the video game and also had the best compliment to the video game and video game story. They still weren’t perfect matches to the video game, but they were in my opinion the best matched to their video game.

The first book is based on the Minish Cap. I felt like this story was paced so nicely. I didn’t ever feel it was rushed. I feel that Link collecting all the elements was very fleshed out. Ezlo, who is also in the game, made such a great companion in this manga. It was really nice to have details revealed in conversations between Ezlo and link. I have only one complaint about this book. There are two panels in this book, which go side by side, which felt very out of place. Felt out of place in the story and just out of place for the Legend of Zelda. For me this just left a bad taste in my mouth. Anyway, I did find what they did with Vaati at the end interesting, especially when comparing it to the video game.

The second book, which is based on Phantom Hourglass, surprised me. Phantom Hourglass isn’t my favorite of the Zelda games, however, I ended up really enjoying this manga. This manga was probably one of the most accurate I have read of these manga, as far as comparing it to the video game. The biggest thing is they cut out the material gathering for the phantom sword. But considering how much time they put into the first half of the game, I can understand why the ending was rushed. I also liked how much the manga focuses on Linebeck and stayed true to his video game story. This one also had some of the best humor, even calling out to instances where things were labeled “not in video game.” I had a really fun time with this one.

I used to play The Legend Of Zelda The Minish Cap on Game Boy Advance & Phantom Hourglass on Nintendo DS - that was originally 1 of my sister's before she donate it to me - back in the mid to late 2000's. I got through the entire Minish Cap story after high school coz I don't have that much homework but sadly it doesn't count as my 1st Capcom game. Yes it's a Capcom developed game alongside Flagship & yes they co developed Oracle of Seasons & Ages on Game Boy Color & A Link To The Past on GBA. I need to replay it on GBA soon or just probably download it on Wii U Virtual Console before the shut down orrrrrrrrrr... on Switch if there are GBA games for Switch Online and I was soooooooo close to finishing Phantom Hourglass but couldn't finish it on time. D'oh!

Capcom also did their best to work on The Legend Of Zelda Mystical Seed Of Courage for Game Boy Color but it got cancelled due to various issues

I used to read TLOZ Legendary Edition volume 4 containing The Minish Cap and Phantom Hourglass loosely based on the games in either 2018 or 2019 so it's a reread for 2022. While some aren't in the manga comparing to the games the manga illustrations looks great the action's pretty good but the best thing about the volume is a lot of humour. So much humour

Loved it

I thought having the manga for Minished Cap and Phantom Hourglass collected in one omnibus would be a little odd, but surprisingly they compliment each other very well. Both games have a cutesy design, which is translated over to both having this adorable chibi art style and both games have some of best Zelda-Link interactions (in Minished Cap they're childhood friends, so they hang out together and understand each other, and in Phantom Hourglass they've already been on adventures together and love to banter between each other). Both games also have some of most memorable side characters with: Ezlo, Vaati and Linebeck.

Now onto the plot. Minished Cap is a game that translates well in the manga format. The plot is simple: rebuild the sword that can destroy the current evil and then vanquish evil within the time limit given. This is great, because it means the manga can really focus on the characters you meet and the world building around (which there is a lot, the Minish are such a delight to see, Ezlo and Vaati are a joy to read about and watching Link shrink and grow is done so spectacularly).

Phantom Hourglass I feel is more about Linebeck's growth, it's about how he overcomes his fears and regrets to help Link on his journey. The Link in this manga, although young and brash, is sure of himself. He's been on adventures before, he has his courage, he knows he's going to fight for Tetra no matter what, but Linebeck isn't sure how far he's willing to go, but he learns and ultimately he gets to make a wish at the end for his courage and it's a delight to see that character growth.

They're both very enjoyable adaptations of the games and I feel like they're two of the best due to the games being more storyteller friendly than some Zelda games!

This Manga was such a fun, quick read! I have not played either of these games, so I really enjoyed being able to experience the stories in Manga form (with clarification about any differences between the game and Manga, of course).

The Minish Cap was such a lovely little adventure, and I absolutely adore the Picori. My husband did clarify that the Manga differed slightly from the game, but overall, I still enjoyed this one a lot and would rate it 5 stars!

The Phantom Hourglass was also incredibly adventurous and entertaining, albeit less cohesive in Manga form than The Minish Cap. I felt as though some of the events had to be rushed or skipped over to fit the story into this format, which made it slightly confusing without having played the game. The pirate adventure feeling of the story itself, however, and the characters, were absolutely fantastic!

Overall, reading this Manga was a delightful experience that has made me want to play both of these games! I would definitely recommend this Manga to any fan of The Legend of Zelda game series.

Once again I am in love with this series!
Both stories were interesting and exciting and some of the jokes were so funny I was laughing so hard. I personally enjoyed reading Phantom Hourglass more and it really reminded me of when I played the game which is something I love about these stories- although they add in a few extra things here and there, the majority of the story remains true to the video games, which is a big plus for me. PH made me laugh the entire time and I found that the overall message behind it was so lovely. I honestly just wish there had been a book dedicated to Wind Waker though... and seeing Toon Link and Tetra really brought some of that nostalgia to my heart and a little bit of disappointment that there is no WW manga (it's one of my favourite LoZs).
Light and easy to fly through, this manga kept me entertained and interested and if you love LoZ then every book in this series is honestly a must!

This book was a really great book I have read other books like this one and I am probably going to continue to read these books. This book held my attention throughout the whole thing because there were a lot of exciting parts in the book that I couldn't wait for. I really enjoy reading these books especially since they have pictures because it draws my attention more and keeps me focused on the book and the artwork is pretty good and entertaining. another reason I like reading these books is that I'm a fan of Zelda! it was a very fun book to read and to compare to the gameplay. I cant wait to see if they come out with more books that are from the newer games because I will definitely have to read them.

God I'm probably going to sound like a broken record, at this point, but the pacing in these stories is rough. I thought the minish cap story was a ton of fun and made me very reminiscent about that game. it's probably my favorite of the handheld ones. this isn't a critique on this collection itself but just a curious thing. Why skip Wind Waker? Phantom Hourglass is a direct sequel to WW so why skip it in the manga adaptations?
I think my biggest gripes with both of these adaptations is that they feel very forgettable. There are key moments in each book I've read so far that have stuck with me, but I finished this one yesterday and have been struggling to think of highlight moments.

This book is a comic depiction of the games "The Minish Cap" and "Phantom Hourglass", both from the series of "The Legend of Zelda". Each story contains the plot of the game revolving around the main character Link and his adventures to pursue a certain goal. Drawn by artist Akira Himekawa, the characters are of the art style of the game with a unique tint of manga. I liked the book itself purely because of my interest in the franchise and comic books, but for me I learnt the most from its language, because I have read the Spanish translated version of the book.
