Traveling light with just her shattered pride and a wedding dress, Jill Barton headed west - attempting to escape the heartbreak and humiliation of being left at the altar. Her desperate flight took her deep into unfamiliar territory, and into the home and arms of Logan Matthews. But although the isolated retreat offered sanctuary, its rough, enigmatic owner did not. For Jill, nothing was safe around Logan - not her secrets, not her intimate desires, and least of all her loving heart.

Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.

As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.

Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.

Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it.
I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.

I read this piece of trash because my roommate INSISTED. I originally gave it 2 stars because she’s on Goodreads and I didn’t want to insult her. I’m pretty sure she’s not here anymore so I’m dropping my rating to 1 star even though it deserves 0.

I have to wonder if women in the early 80s really liked reading books like this one. You know, the heroine starts out fairly strong then turns into an idiot you want to strangle every other minute? And the hero is a chauvinist jerk who all of a sudden becomes sweet in the end? The basic story is that Jill is left at the altar. She decides to escape for a while and ends up in an artists' colony to relax and recover. Pretending to be a writer, she convinces the owner, Logan, to let her stay.

Seems like a great set up for a romance, right? I thought so too until I read the book. Where the heck was the romance? Jill and Logan spend their time either sniping at each other or he is constantly grabbing her and kissing her against her will. Eww. Every time she said she loved him, I was like. "WHY????". I didn't get it. There was no getting to know each other. The addition of the evil, conniving ex-fiance drove me crazy. As I listened to this book, I kept yelling out loud to Jill to stick up for herself. But, sadly, she never listened to me. Jill was a sap and Logan was a jerk. I guess they deserved each other? I can't say I enjoyed this one or recommend it.

Samas!!! Äkki ikkagi viga hoopis minus, mitte raamatus endas. ;). Vähemalt oli tegu lühikese raamatuga.

My first comment on a book. I always read the jacket cover to get acquainted with the book first. I did and it was very misleading. It spoke of a trip to Washington State that never happened. I wonder who it is that wrote this book summary. Was some of the book changed after it went to print. It is the first time I ever noticed this and just wanted to comment.

This is an older book by Fern Michaels. It was evident this was written years ago as the female lead was submissive and the male character was an absolute jerk. I listened to the audio portion of this book and commend the narrator. She was excellent, having an uncanny knack of changing her voice to fit each character.

Perhaps it should get 1.5 stars or even 2, but this one was very disappointing! and I could not give it more. I guess I expected better from Fern.

A predictable but fun quick read. The typical romance, guy and girl meet, conflict erupts, passion flares, misunderstanding and finally love wins out. Would recommend it for a fun light read.

Very dated. Didn't realized the audiobook was originally written in 1981. Doesn't translate all that well to current times, but well meaning HEA.

Paint Me Rainbows
Fern Michaels

Jill Barton was left at the alter. She decided she needed to leave all the heartbreak and humiliation so she started driving with no distention. She ended up at a retreat sanctuary where she went into the arms of Logan Matthew. Jill's secrets, desires and most importantly her heart were not safe from Logan.

This story was very intriguing and had some romance and drama in the story. My favorite part was when Jill and Logan finally realized that they needed each other near the end of the book. It was very well written and a fun book to read.

I would recommend this book to any eighth graders and older who like to read about romance and drama.

Paint Me Rainbows by Fern Michaels
Jill Barton is left at the altar and she leaves after and ends up in New England, an artist colony.
Logan Matthews runs the colony. I love hearing all the different mediums of art that one can do with their own hands.
She rents a cottage from Logan when she finds out how much, and the elderly woman who is the cook has to leave for Seattle and she takes the job of cook for a while...
His fiance shows up and takes over the cottage she's in and she's made it known Logan is all hers, or is he?

I always enjoy reading a Fern Michael's book! This was a quick and easy read. I enjoyed the plot and the characters, my favorite-Miss Barton. She had a good sense of humor, and had me laughing out loud! Another character named Doozey was a large, lovable Irish setter, and he made me smile. I always like a story with a dog in it!

Just finished my second read of PAINT ME RAINBOWS. Though the characters seemed at first, a bit rushed into their interpersonal relationships, the overall read was delightful and one finished... most satisfied with the plot and its develpoment.

Maybe this one would've been better if I had read it back in the 80's when it was originally published. Didn't realize that until after I had finished it. Don't know how many more of hers I will try. Not a fan of this one at all.
