It doesn't take long for Spider-Man to encounter the other heroes in the Ultimate Marvel Universe along with the devious villains eager to destroy them.
A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.
Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.
Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.
Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.
Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.
Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.
He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.
This is absolutely terrible, I don't even want to write a full review, here is the reasons why:
1) The art is terrible especially the Iron Man team-up just ugly ugly 70s art 2) The writing is absolutely atrocious, the pacing and dialog the story itself is choppy and nearly unreadable. 3) There should have been some value here in terms of world building and origins but they are handled so poorly that I can imagine Marvel going back later and redoing it so this entire team-up book ends up being a complete waste of time
Terrible with no sense of continuity to the rest of the Ultimate Universe at large. Respectfully to the series this did come first but all of it's still well. Terrible. Very good choices from the other writers to ignore most of it.
Ultimate team up #1-5 My ultimate Year #1: ultimate origins!
Fun little stories, certainly not essential reading. If picking up single copies, I’d probably skip Wolverine; hulk for hard core spidey fans who read their early battles in amazing Spider-Man, iron man for everyone.
Collects the first 5 issues of Ultimate Marvel Team Up. Features Wolverine, Hulk and Iron Man. The Iron Man story in issues 4 and 5 was the best. The other two weren't as good.
i like matt wagner, i like mike allred, i like phil hester... so why is the art on this so bad? the story is no better either. i don't particularly like bendis, but he's on his D-game here. the book is filler for ultimate spider-man that tries (and fails) to introduce characters to this fancy new universe and its readers. but with that, you get shit like a novel length exposition explaining who iron man is with some of mike allreds worst art page after page. i dont even get why 2 of these stories were even 2 parters, the pacing is so piss poor, so much could have been trimmed to make the issues at LEAST flow better. though i dont think that would have redeemed the comics much
A low-stakes, shortcut to fleshing out the Ultimate Universe. This scatter-shot approach to introducing more heroes and villains did what it set out to do. It covered a lot of ground without getting in the weeds, but that is exactly what kept me from enjoying it fully.
Wow... this was absolutely horrid, I can't believe the authors actually put their names on this and I'm baffled that Marvel went ahead and published this. Not even worthy of my toilet time.
I'm pretty sure I actually read the issues collected herein before, back when I had a disposable income and bought comics books (a.k.a. high school). Spider-Man encounters the Hulk, Iron Man, and what appears to be teenage mutant (ninja?) Wolverine. The Wolverine issue is the best, if only for the gag at the end. In general, though: it's fluff, silly good-natured fluff, but sadly not terribly interesting fluff. I feel like I've seen it all before. Which, okay, may be because I HAVE, but still. Perhaps I am less easily entertained than when I was 17? This makes me sad.
My first disappointment from the Ultimate universe. The idea is decent, with Ultimate lead character spider-man crossing paths with, and thus introducing, other marvel heroes to the ultimate setting. Unfortunately the executing is for the most part very poor, each character only gets an issue or two which just doesn't feel like enough time to establish their background, personality and place in the new universe.
I would have given this release 2 stars only, because the first two story arcs are not that good, but the Punisher arc is well written and introduces the Punisher and Daredevil to the Ultimate Universe in a nice way. I really like this version of the Punisher.
Best thing about this title is how all the stories are entirely episodic and so are full of gags and cool character moments. Tone shifts wildly as Spider-Man goes on a tour of Marvel Origin Stories so there are good and bad issues but it's a better approach than giving everyone an Ultimate Book.
It's great to see these artist's work, but it's very much a Bendis comic, with both the god and bad that brings. Ultimately, it doesn't get better than ok.
