The Black enlistees are in training to fight in the second World War when a secret project requires 300 test subjects. They execute the camp's commander, take the 300 Black soldiers they need, and then massacre the rest of the soldiers to prevent word from getting out. One wants to believe such brutality and horror as medical experimentation on Black servicemen could not possibly be true, but unfortunately, of course, we have proof that such things did happen.
The story advances the lives of these black soldiers in the 1940s, as they face bigotry and hatred from their fellow soldiers. They embark on a secret new mission. Decent story, doesn't advance much, and the artwork is way worse than the first volume.
Just finished re-reading for the 1st time in years. Ending still as nerve-wracking and jaw-dropping as the first time. One of the best comic book stories ever told as a whole, this issue really set the tone for the rest of the mini.
