This year, the 40th anniversary of the event, which was given the romantic name of "the revolution of carnations", was celebrated. It is unlikely that the organizers and participants of the bloodless, as historians claim, military coup in Portugal guessed that their actions would be the beginning of a process later called the "third wave of democratization."
