A mysterious past, a desperate present and an uncertain future. What’s a girl to do? Young widow Gloriana St. Clair has lost everything—her memory, her husband, even the pallet where she’d been sleeping since her money ran out. Near starvation, she’s forced to try her luck in the alley next to the Globe Theater. With her curves displayed in a borrowed dress, maybe she can attract a generous and caring protector to support her. Jeremiah Campbell is drawn to Gloriana immediately and makes his move. The handsome Scot certainly catches her eye and even buys her a meat pie when he hears her empty stomach rumbling. Glory decides she has no choice but to go with him when he offers his arm for a “stroll.” At least his eyes are kind. But an attack by thugs soon shows her that this man can also be dangerous. When she sees his fangs? Well, surely she imagined them. Because vampires aren’t real, are they?
This prequel to the Real Vampires series begins the love story between vampire Jeremiah Campbell and mortal Gloriana St. Clair in 1604 London.
Gerry Bartlett figures that vampires are pretty much like everyone else except for the liquid diet.
Eternity or Mexican food? Tough call.
Gerry’s a native Texan and lives halfway between Houston and Galveston. Pictured with her is her late wonder dog, a Bedlington Terrier named Belle.
When she started writing, she was still teaching and used the pseudonym Lynn McKay. You can probably still find her historical and two romantic suspense books for a penny on-line. Now that she’s no longer in the classroom and discovered the fun of writing about vampires, she uses her real name. Too bad some people think Gerry is a boy's name or short for Geraldine. No, it's not. Really.
She's still writing her Real Vampires series but is back to romantic suspense and contemporaries. Her Texas Heat series starts in Houston, her home town. Then there's her Lone Star Suspense series set in Austin where she went to the University of Texas. She loves the hill country there and brought some of her favorite characters from the Texas Heat series to Austin for the fast-paced suspense in the three books in that series.
You can check out Gerry’s website at gerrybartlett.com to find her blog and articles for writers. Her Perils of Publishing gives the scoop on what happens once "the call" comes. Oh, did you think it would be all roses and champagne? Well, of course it is.
When Gerry's not writing, she's treasure hunting for her antiques business in Alvin. Her favorite finds? Vintage purses and jewelry. It's a struggle not to keep it all. Be sure to sign up for her newsletter for the latest info about her books at http://ymlp.com/xgeyeewwgmgw
While I enjoyed reading about how Glory and Jeremiah came to be, this book was pretty repetitive. Unfortunately, when you get this far into a series it often feels like it's slipping. When Glory Met Jerry is definitely better than the previous book (Real Vampires and the Viking) but maybe it's time to stop because they just don't compare to the beginning of the series.
After enjoying Gerry Bartlett’s Real Vampire series, it’s such fun to finally read about when Glory St. Claire first met her sexy, Scott, Jeremiah Campbell. As it turns out, it’s in London, in 1604. Glory’s actor husband died in a freak accident the year before, and she’s barely scrapping by mending costumes back stage at the Globe Theatre where Master Shakespeare puts on his plays. But her grief reprieve is over, and now she must find her own way in the world. Unfortunately, the only way she can survive is to find a protector. And that’s how she meets Jeremiah, a tall, handsome, obviously wealthy (and thankfully clean) Scottish lord who appears to be the answer to her prayers.
But Jeremiah has secrets. Lots of secrets. Glory is still human at this time, and although we know Jerry sired her, it’s such fun to explore the whole story, how and why it came about. Glory’s past is lost to her due to her memory blank before her actor husband found her, unconscious and close to death. But we know Glory is special. Jeremiah, on the other hand, has several hundred years of memories.
Danger and intrigue follow them in this politically fraught time as their relationship develops and they fall in love. But their differences are great, and being together forever might require more than this one story! I can’t wait for the next prequel in this series, when Glory meets Jeremiah’s parents.
When I read that this book was taking us back to the beginning, I had my doubts! We KNOW Glory and Jerry and we KNOW their backstory, so how can you be true to everything we’ve learned in the last 12 books and still be interesting? The answer – by being the talented, excellent writer Gerry Bartlett! SHE NAILED IT!
Everything I already knew is in this book, and so much more! I LOVED meeting human Glory before she is a vampire! I loved being in a superior position, knowing things that Glory has not yet discovered about herself. I loved knowing where this romance will be centuries after its inception. I loved getting to know London in 1604, and catching a glimpse of Shakespeare at the Globe. I loved learning and living the exact circumstance that led to Jerry agreeing to Glory’s wish to be turned vampire.
Luckily, book 14 is on the horizon! Soon, we’ll get to journey with Glory to Scotland and be with her when she first meets Jerry’s parents and clan. Write faster Mrs. Bartlett!
I’ve been waiting for this story for a long time. I love the series and to finally find out the story that started the whole relationship between them is wonderful.
We’re back in London, 1604 at Shakespeare’s Globe Theater where Glory has been sleeping after her actor husband Michael died a year ago. She has no memories of her life before she met her husband and now has to find some way for her to survive. That's when Jerry shows up.
I loved this story. It was exactly what I was waiting for. And there’s another one coming!
Fave scenes: Glory threatening MacDonald, escaping the Tower, jumping into the river and, of course, Glory’s change.
Wish this had been the story she told from the beginning. I decided to reread them all again and I started with this one and I forgot that this isnt how she told the story of Glory and Jerry in the first book.
BUMMER.
Not only that but it completely messes with everything from the first book about how Glory knew her family, didn't like shifters, dreams, and Valdez is a dog? What gives. I really liked the story line of this and the next prequel. Why did you have to make it different though then the rest of the books?

This is the book Real Vampire fans have been begging for! I’m so glad we finally got to see how Glory and Jerry came to be a couple, and how Glory came to be a vampire. This book has it all - the atmosphere of the theater, the danger of the streets, the desperation that brought them together. And then there’s the hot vampire sex. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
I loved learning how Glory and Jerry met. I'm excited learn how they got to the point in their relationship where we first met them. I can't wait for the next prequel book!
I have been reading this series since 2008 and I simply cannot get enough of Glory & Jerry! A wonderful cast of characters and an amazing supernatural story that will (hopefully) continue throughout the centuries.
I enjoyed this book because it told of how Glory met Jerry and how she became a vampire. It answered many questions that I had when I was reading the other 12 books. Now as I think back there are some things that make more sense. Very good reading. Great read Gerry.
Since I have read all the Gloriana books, I have sometimes wondered about the early years in Jeremiah and Goriana's relationship. This answers my questions. This would be a good read to begin the series.
I am so glad Gerry brought back Gloriana I was sad when the series ended , but now she's back with how it all began....hopefully after she will continue on with the series
