As they race to untangle the past and thwart a power-hungry Wizard, Tasia must face her toughest decision yet. Can she take a leap of faith and risk her deadliest secret?

Tasia Armstrong is no longer a nondescript, friendless and naïve Wizard flying under the radar on the fringes of Chosen society. With her fate now publicly entwined with that of a powerful Shifter Pack, she must navigate the minefield of Pack politics while keeping her secrets and cover safe from the Chosen who hunt her. With a Pack to defend her, a powerful Alpha to protect her interests and friends to watch her back, her life is a far cry from before. But living with the Shifters holds new challenges for a Chosen more used to the shadows.

The stakes have never been higher as old fault lines, long-buried secrets, Wizard dysfunction, and Lady Bethesda’s ruthless machinations draw the Chosen ever closer to a civil war. While Tasia grapples to avoid the pitfalls and confront her demons, it is an unlikely nemesis who forces her to face her moment of truth. Tasia finds herself at the crossroads - at stake are her carefully constructed house of cards and her tangled relationship with the man who holds her enemies at bay. Will Tasia risk opening Pandora’s Box or will she disappear into the shadows again?

Author's Note : The Rainmaker continues the story from The Prophecy. The books are not standalone and are intended to be read in order.

Wonderfully wicked...the plot thickens, as the author weaves a web full of intrigue, action, romance and suspense. Each intricate layer and element is crucial to the unfolding saga of this mesmerising story.

Delightfully exciting...the characters continue to delicately grow in depth, revealing more about themselves and their truths. New characters are thrown precisely into the fold, with such ease and purpose.

Seductively alluring...The Alpha and the Wizard, forging and strengthening their bond to one another. The tension between these fierce protagonists is extremely palpable and utterly primal. A slow burn that erupts into this untamed fire. Talk about sexy...RAWR!

The Rainmaker continues exactly where The Prophecy left off, catapulting me right back into the urban fantasy that is full of so much anticipation and excitement. The author, Petra Landon, is exceptionally meticulous and calculating in delving deeper into the saga. Every twist and turn is written with such justification, intent and intelligence, it's so easy to get lost in this world. She really is a unique storyteller, creating characters and worlds very hard not to love, or get bored of. I never wanted the story to end, savouring every last word, and the feelings, aroused by all the action packed scenes, as well as the sexy interludes.

I'm not sure I'm able to really articulate the depths of this story. There are countless backstories and subplots that in order for anyone to really fathom the intensity of this saga between Shifters, Guardians, Wizards and Vampires, is not going to be from this review alone. You must read it for yourselves.

I want to thank the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review. If ever there was a series to highly recommend, it would be this one. I cannot speak enough of how much this series has captivated my heart and now, I must wait for the next instalment. Desperately hanging on until next year.

Tasia is being hunted, yet even the hunters do not realize who she is or the incredible powers she possesses. Fully protected by the powerful shifter pack of San Francisco and its Alpha Protector, she will now become part of the hunt for long buried secrets that could destroy the tenuous peace within the Chosen community. Wizards, vampires, shifters and the deadly lies of the past are about to come to an explosive collision as revelations unfold and the depth of turmoil within one group becomes glaringly apparent. Tasia must decide, stand and fight for what is right alongside the man she has come to love or disappear into the shadows to keep her own secrets safe.

Petra Landon comes roaring back with THE RAINMAKER a powerful addition to the Saga of the Chosen series and the tension runs even hotter, the action is more volatile and the prophecy looms ever larger and more ominous. These characters are amazing as we watch them grow and their relationships evolve, page by page!

Brilliant writing, well-chosen words and that feeling of being more than a voyeur, an actual part of each scene makes both THE RAINMAKER and this series a must read for paranormal lovers who want a cut above the rest to sink their teeth and their imaginations into!

Full disclosure, I was provided a copy of this book by the author, however, have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own.

In search of the Sisters

The Rainmaker is the second in the Saga of the Chosen books by Petra Landon and continues the story of Tasia, Sienna, Jason and the Northern California Shifter Pack. Now that the threat to Tasia is seemingly eliminated, the focus turns to Sienna and the mysterious locket that she wears. Having tried everything to rid herself of this unwanted gift from her mother, the Lady Bethesda, and with her being a target of the vampires Sienna and Jason also find themselves taking up residence in the lair to ensure their protection. With Lady Bethesda’s increasing attempts to unite the sisters and fulfill the Prophecy, the race is on to locate the remaining siblings and unravel the mystery. With the help of a powerful ancient, the team learns of the location of the second sister but also discovers that she currently resides with Lady Bethesda. If that weren’t bad enough, without access to the actual prophecy, the group are at a disadvantage and can only guess at Lady Bethesda’s methods and motives.

Sienna is not the only one with visions in this installment, as Tasia has also been having nightmares of being trapped in Shifter form in a cage in the woods. The more time she spends in the lair, the more frequent and vivid the nightmares have become. In an attempt to quiet her visions and get answers, Tasia finds herself increasingly seeking out Raul’s company. With the duo spending more and more time together, Tasia finds herself relentlessly drawn to the charismatic Alpha and the attraction seems to be mutual. However, with Tasia still hiding secrets from Raul, she resists any advances that the Alpha makes as what she is hiding may have detrimental consequences to those around her. The Alpha Protector has also run afoul of the GCW after finding himself the target of retribution from Guardian Anderson who was partnering with the vampire Rafaelo Bianchi to take the Alpha Protector down. After a close call that could have had devastating implications for the entire pack, the once-reclusive Shifters find themselves forming an alliance with the Vampires and the Wizards to ensure that the Northern California area is safe for all Magicks. The alliance heads to the GCW headquarters to retrieve the errant Guardian and bring him to justice, but finds that even with such a show of might, this will not be an easy task.

I must give fair warning that for the best experience in understanding the events that have taken place thus far and where the story is going, “The Rainmaker” should not be attempted without having first read “The Prophecy”. For as blown away as I was upon reading “The Prophecy”, “The Rainmaker” is every bit as good as its predecessor. While “The Prophecy” focuses more on Tasia and her origins, “The Rainmaker” focuses less on Tasia and more on Nandini as the second sister, her past and her journey from India to San Francisco. Petra Landon does an amazing job of balancing existing storylines, allies and rivalries while introducing new characters and events to further the story. Tasia still remains a central part of the narrative as it appears that whether she likes it or not, she has taken a central place on the life of the pack and the Alpha in particular. With both guarding secrets that could potentially destroy them and others, the dynamic between them has been kicked into overdrive. I am liking this new tension between the power duo and am eager to see how they fare once (if) all secrets are laid on the table. The extent Tasia’s abilities are also hinted at in a bit further detail. From a possible seer to a Shifter herself, one thing is for certain and that is that Tasia Armstrong is like no other character I have ever encountered!

Once again, I find my review lacking as it only scratches the surface of all that transpires in this book. Part Urban fantasy, part romance and all business, The Saga of the Chosen is shaping up to be one of the best fantasy series I have had the pleasure of reading in a while.

The Rainmaker continues right where The Prophecy leaves off and takes us right back to the urban fantasy with “Chosen” hiding in plain sight. I thought the first book in this series was fantastic and Petra Landon did not disappoint in this second installment, in fact I think this book is even better.

First off Petra is amazing with character development, she has an uncanny ability to add great depth to each character that draws you in. You fall in love with the characters either for the good in them or the internal struggle or past demons that haunt them. She does all this in a way that makes you feel for them, and connect with them on whole new levels.

I thought that in the first book the characters and there relationships were well done, but she takes it to a whole new level in book two. She really takes the depth of relationships between each character so deep, but then adds to it by showing how out of the norm some of these relationships are. The Chosen races we find really have huge divides between them, whether it be political, social, or just plain prejudice. She does a fabulous job showing this, which also brings to light the other true talent the Alpha has outside of his physical dominance.

In this book you start to see the vastness of the hidden world that the Chosen live. The group that the Alpha is putting together is growing throughout this book and shows the immense power that can be harnessed by uniting the unique abilities and talents of each and every Chosen race.

With all the new plot twists introduced, more of the prophecy coming to light, and the first big interaction with Lady Bethesda, you can feel the tension of the uncertain future that everyone faces.

This book truly is one of the best books I have read in a long time and I will not be surprised when book three surpasses even the first two books. Petra’s writing has great pace, just the write mix of character and plot development mixed perfectly with the emotions of the building of the relationships between characters and that of there respective Chosen race.

I highly recommend this to anyone who likes deep well thought out stories that bring you in and refuse to let go. Get ready for a fantastic ride!!!

I would also like to thank the author for an ARC of The Rainmaker in exchange for an honest review. She truly has become one of my favorite authors and I truly appreciate what she has created for us to enjoy...

First, let me say I am thrilled that the one glitch in the first installment of this series has been eliminated!! The story of Tasia, Raoul and the rest takes off right where we left off, continuing a journey that is expertly created and penned! It is a huge book by today’s standards (clocking in at over 600 pages!) But, what really amazed me was that it is so engrossing that I actually was thrilled with the length! Never once did I get bored and wished the ending would just come already. THAT, my friends is a talented author!

At this point, I am having a bit of a problem with Tasia, the female protagonist, however. It’s the one area I feel just isn’t as well developed as it should be - especially given the amount of time we’ve had to get to know and understand her character. Yet, we don’t. We haven’t been given enough information about her feelings, her past or her big “secret” to allow us to really connect with her. And, that is extremely frustrating because she is the main character!!!

Raoul, on the other hand, is expertly crafted! With him, we are allowed to understand his feelings, drive, personality, weaknesses etc. They are so beautifully developed that we can connect, relate and love him!! That is also why the lack of connection with Tasia’s character is doubly frustrating. We need to better understand why - at the end of almost 900 pages (between the two books) we still have no idea why she is so reticent around the man who is risking everything to protect her.

SO... at this point, I’m loving the series but not so much the heroine. Hopefully, we’ll get some progress and depth in her character very soon in the next book. If we can truly connect with her and see some real progress in her relationship with Raoul, this looks to become an enthusiastic 5 star series!

Thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A year ago I got to know the amazingly sweet author Petra Landon. I read her book and I was hooked and have been in contact with her ever since. The first book in this series is The Prophecy which you should read, because after that you're able to read The Rainmaker. This second book is even better than the first and I'm almost sure you'll fall in love with the characters.

A longer review can be found at Bite Into Books

I have to point out; the book starts a bit slower. I do think those parts are necessary to give the story a good buildup. But if you keep reading you are in for a treat! The books Petra Landon writes are full of great characters and the way she writes is beautiful. I loved the storyline and the worldbuilding and I can't wait to read a third book in this series.
I'm ready!

"How could you allow a Wizard to mount an attack on a Wyr Alpha? Did you think he would take it lying down?"

Ms. Landon provided me a complimentary copy of this book, which I am so grateful for!

I loved getting to know a lot of the characters better in this story as well as the action, which continued revealing new things about them. There's this whole prophecy (could you guess?)/conspiracy that everyone is trying desperately to unfold, hopefully in time to save their world.

There is so much plot development in this book and at the same time, I can tell we're not near the end. We've definitely got quite a road to go. I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment.

My new addiction...

This is the second book in this enthralling Prophecy paranormal series; this is a wonderfully constructed story with so many strands; each a separate tale and yet inextricably tied together heading towards some future and, as yet, unknown entwined destiny...

There are romantic undertones within the storyline and there is more than one couple that deserve a happy ever after; the characters are believable and attractive with a magnificent and gifted strong hero and heroine at the centre, and a fascinating supporting cast ......I was so invested in their lives and felt aggrieved, angry and elated alongside them.....the relationships are developing but this is most definitely a slow burner and is ostensibly a classic and epic story about good versus evil and the battle that ensues when these two are fighting for ultimate power....

I love this series...this is paranormal writing at its best; I was captivated with the first book but now I am completely addicted...I received an advanced copy of this book from the author

The Rainmaker is the second book in the Saga of the Chosen and it picks up where the story ended in Prophecy.

As we learned from the first books there are four diverse groups of magical/supernatural (Chosen) creatures who distrust each other and each group sticks to their own clique. Shifters live as a pack and their loyalty to each other is synonymous with their obedience to the Alpha, and their Alpha protector. The wizards/witches have registries in every major city that handle the witches and wizards in their area. Their arrogance and pride have led them to become split by greed, politics and personal ambition. Vampires are thought to be lowest form of the Chosen and are detested by the others. There are a few Pure Blood Masters at the top, they live in nests with their lives ruled by social standing and complicated customs. They possess little magic compared to other Chosen. The Originals /First Ones/Ancients have the oldest magic. Their powers are diverse; there are two loose groupings, the Setik and Eru. They continue their ancient traditions and are reluctant to dilute their legacy and are driven to protect the old magic of their ancestors. For the most part, they keep their distance from the political cut-throat world ff the other Chosen.
Twenty-five years ago the Council of the Chosen (COC) was formed to encourage understanding, unity and communication between the different factions, there is a representative for each group; Fooladh oversees the Wyrs, the First Wizard oversees the wizards and witches, EIThor represent the First Ones and the Vampires of course have a complicated process where the Masters of Pure Blood Families rotate as representatives of the Clan.

The Guardian Council of Wizards (GCW) is the best of the Wizard world; they are responsible for protecting and policing their members. Before the COC was formed the Guardians held this responsibility solely, now they share it with the First Wizard. Currently, there is a faction of Guardians locked into a power struggle with the First Wizard.

Lady Bethesda has returned from the dead to unite her three daughters, by three different powerful fathers so that she can rule the Chosen world through them using their unique powers. Sienna is her daughter with the Oracle, her mother has been trying to capture her not only to use her but to get the pendent where she stored her powers from her when she faked her death and Nandini her daughter with the Indian Eru have been reunited after they rescue Nandini fro her mother’s clutches. The third daughter is briefly introduced at the ending of this book and I can’t wait to find out more about her!

Nandini has joined Sienna and Tasia the young witch in the pack house and they are all trying to stop Lady Bethesda from fulfilling the prophecy made by Sienna’s father. Tasia has gradually come to trust Raoul with some of her secrets and despite his inherent distrust of witches Raoul finds himself falling in love with her. Tasia feels the same attraction but is too fearful and unwilling to share all her secrets with him so she is trying to push him away while still remaining part of the team to stop Lady Bethesda.

Sienna has had visions of Tasia for years and since meeting her the visions are becoming clearer, she knows that her and her sisters will untie to try and save her when she is about to be executed, While she doesn’t know the extent of Tasia’s powers, she trusts her and is determined to do everything she can to save her.

Like the first book, there’s not an over abundance of romance in this book which I found refreshing. The author is taking it slow with the romances of Tasia, Raoul, Sienna, Nandini, Hawk, Jason, Caroline and Roman; she is focusing on character and world-building which is a refreshing change of pace from the insta-love or hate/love that too many novelists rely on. There’s substance in this series that is lacking in most of the books turned out today by authors.

5/5 STARS: **I read this novel using a selection from my Kindle Unlimited subscription; the review reflects my honest opinions.**

The Rainmaker is the second book in the Saga of the Chosen series. It picks up from where the first book ended. The story started out slow and gradually picked up the pace as the events unfolded, but do not let this discourage you because it will be worth it in the end. The slow start was necessary to prepare for the events, which were on the verge of unfolding.

The focus of this installment was on character development and setting the pace for future events. There was not a lot of action, but when it occurred, it was intense and had me eagerly expecting the outcome.

The world building is awesome, and I enjoyed every moment spent in this unique world. In the previous installment there were wizards, guardians and shifters working together to solve a twenty–five-year-old mystery. These groups rarely work well together as each saw the other as being inferior, but to stop a power- hungry Guardian from destroying their world they will set aside their differences. In this installment a faction of vampires who were considered the lowest form of Chosen because of their nature have joined in the fight against the power- hungry guardian.

I had a great time meeting the new characters and catching up with the old ones. New information is provided about the old characters allowing for a better understanding of what drove them. I loved how the new characters blended in adding to the richness of the story.
Romance is brewing and there is one couple, (Raoul and Tasia) I am hoping will move past their insecurities and fears and acknowledge their feelings for each other.

Magic featured in this segment, not too heavy, but enough to make things interesting. It was great seeing Tasia embracing her magic. More of her secrets came to light, which provided insight into the power she can wield and the threat she poses to the other Chosen.

The questions I had, which arose in the previous installment were answered. However, as the story progressed additional questions arose, which had me wondering what is in store for all the players and most importantly what is Tasia’s role in the fulfilment of the prophecy.

Now this installment at 657 pages was lengthier than the previous book. This was due to key scenes being restated to team members who may not have been present when the event occurred. This was done regularly throughout the story. I understood the need for this, but having done so often contributed to the slow pacing of the story.

Conclusion/Recommendation

Overall, this was a great addition to the series and more enjoyable that the previous book. I am curious to know what next is in store for the team and the impact the prophecy will have on the world of the Chosen.

I received this novel from the author as an ARC. Thank you!!

This novel was amazing!! I could not put it down!! This is great sequel to the first novel in the series, which you need to read before reading this novel. Ms. Landon weaves an incredible plot, and brings it all together, leaving you craving for more. She brings her plot together, but leaves you with more questions about what will happen next!!

Three half-sisters are at the forefront of The Prophecy, which the characters in the novel do not know what the Oracle predicted since there have been many issues between the Guardians, Wizards, Wyrs, and Vampires. However, members from all these factions will come together to try and stop the evil that threatens their world, even at the expense of how others will view them. There are secrets that are revealed, some I did not see coming, and others that have yet to be revealed. Tasia Armstrong has many secrets still as she finds herself still finding her way in the Pack, especially with the Alpha Protector, Raoul Merceau. Raoul is an extremely powerful Wyr and also has wizard blood running through his veins. He protects Tasia, knowing some of her secrets, even though he has a few of his own. Tasia and Raoul become closer in this novel and develop trust between them. Tasia helps with investigating the Prophecy and Lady Bethesda, who plans to use her daughters to further her own agenda. There are several subplots and more characters that come into the novel that shed a new perspective to the story line. They provide additional incite and bring together the First Ones and the Ancients who need to be made aware of the Lady Bethesda's plans. The characters face all new types of situations, within the Pack and the dangers in the outside world. As the travel to gather all the pieces necessary to stop Lady Bethesda, more questions and worries are found than answers. I cannot wait to read the next novel in the series and where the plot leads to as well as the developing relationships between several characters.

The Rainmaker by Petra Landon is the second installment to this exciting paranormal fantasy series. Here, three sisters are crucial to fulfill a prophecy that none of them really know about...their mother is using them to create the prophecy foretold. Chaos, danger, and risks are involved on both sides. War seems inevitable seeing as one woman wants to destroy would be alliances among different beings as well as use certain sides for her own agendas.

I found this story intriguing. Plenty of action to keep the plot moving at a great pace. So many things are involved and the end game could result for the worse. Wizards, weres, and vampires are found as cast members. Each one has a particular tie in this tug of war. Enemies are everywhere and it's only a mattter of time before things break apart. Tasia is the leading protagonist and most likable character. Her life is barely hanging onto a thread. So many choices and so little time...I highly recommend this second novel to readers worldwide.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

The Rainmaker is the second book in the Saga of the Chosen series. This urban fantasy focuses on Tasia. She has been living in hiding and has to decide how much she wants to let on. Raoul is also still in the picture and is very much involved in the rescue missions.

Tasia’s power was the highlight of the storyline. Her abilities were unique and very interesting to read. The relationship between Raoul and Tasia was another intriguing endeavor. The underline of the story was tenderly embedded with humor, and as I had already read Petra’s previous work, I was not expecting anything less.

There are still many unanswered questions, extra new plots and secrets that remain to tickle the mind, however, the ending was fairly satisfying, and if you are one of those people who does not like to wait, then you are advised to buy the third book, when it is out, as well.

The dialogues and characters had their unique personalities yet, all acted as a primary player. This style of writing is unique, and I praise the author for being able to accomplish that.

I recommend this book to fantasy readers and romance lovers.

Yes! Yes, you should read this book! The series is amazing, intense, powerful, unpredictable, and strongly emotional all at the same time. It has everything I could want from a book, and has me so involved with the characters it gripped me emotionally and I'm still thinking about it the next day. Rarely does a book have the depth and character development than this one did. If you can't tell, I absolutely am in love with the Saga of the Chosen series.

I thought the first book in this series The Prophecy was masterfully written with complex characters and heart-pounding scenes. I was wondering if and how, this intense pace would continue. The action only intensified with this book. I'm blown away!

It's hard to review this book without spoilers. Every emotion you possess will be thoroughly used. I'm actually exhausted.

Reviewed for the Author Resource Centre by Grant Leishman

The Rainmaker is the second book in the Saga of the Chosen, of a planned four book series that delves into the world of the Chosen, the hidden group amongst us who possess the ancient powers of magic. This is the third Petra Landon book I’ve been fortunate enough to read and every one improves on the last. This truly is the best part of being a reviewer; watching indie authors find their niche, whilst growing and developing, as writers, within it.

Rainmaker, first and foremost, is a continuation of the story unveiled in the first book; The Prophecy. Unbeknownst to us mere mortals, magic beings live amongst us, their one guiding dictate is to never do anything that may reveal their existence to humanity. All Chosen are not created equal, though, with there being four distinct and separate groups who avoid each other like the plague. The Shifters (or as we probably think of them – the werewolves) comprise a group that live rigidly dictated lives, where fealty to the Clan Leader and loyalty to their pack is paramount above all else. The Wizards are a disparate group, split by politics, personal ambition, and greed. The Originals, who see themselves as above all, have very little interest in, or concern for, the other Chosen. Finally, we have the lowest and most scorned of the Chosen – the Vampires, who are generally reviled by all.

A prophecy made by a powerful wizard/mage some twenty-five years ago is beginning to come to fruition, with the re-emergence of a woman, long thought dead; Lady Bethesda. Her desire to unite her three daughters, from three different fathers, to claim power over the Chosen world, has thrown the most unlikely of allies together in a desperate attempt to stop the prophecy from coming true. Were-Alpha Protector, Raoul Merceau, gathers around him a collection of Wizards, Originals, Shifters, and even the odd Vampire, to try to expose Lady Bethesda’s evil plan for what it is and to stop her. The key to the whole drama, however, may lie with an unassuming, young Level 2 Wizard, Tasia Armstrong who holds some deep and powerful secrets very close to her chest.

To say that Petra Landon has created an amazing array of multi-faceted and fascinating characters is an understatement. Despite the characters all being “otherworldly” to some extent, they are incredibly believable and identifiable. The character development is superb. The stars of this story are undoubtedly Tasia Armstrong, Were-Alpha Protector Raoul Merceau, and, for me, typically English Were-Alpha, Duncan Hawthorne. However, the supporting characters; Hawk, Sienna, Jason, Franciszka, et al, are equally well developed and interesting. The sexual tension between Raoul and Tasia is electric and although hinted at in The Prophecy, it now becomes a full-blown reality in The Rainmaker. Will they… won’t they, is a question I couldn’t stop wondering throughout the length of this book. This story is so much more than a fantasy adventure; it is a beautifully put together story about life, choices, morality, loyalty, and decisions, set in a fantasy world.

The Rainmaker perfectly fulfils the bill as an Epic Fantasy. It is long, for sure, at 657 pages, but those pages just fly by as you are transported into a world that is familiar, yet so very different to the world we know. Set principally in San Francisco, The Rainmaker will draw you in and not let you go. This book is definitely one of my reading highlights for this year and an early contender for the Annual Grunter Awards.

I can give no greater accolade to Landon than to say I was devastated when the story ended and I wait with baited breath for the third instalment of this amazing series; The Siren. Get writing Ms Landon… please! What a winner The Rainmaker is.

Circling ever closer

Tasia is losing her shadows to hide in. Enemies are circling both the Pack and the Chosen as a whole. And with the enemies poking at the Pack, she comes on their radar. A personal enemy comes after Alpha, and tries to use her as collateral damage to put the Shifters in a bad light. Waking in a cage in a basement? Bad. Waking in a basement in a cage with a silver drugged Alpha? Oh. Crap.

Spoilers ahead.
Some threads are coming together, some secrets revealed, some bonds being forged and others broken. And, around and through it all is a prophecy that promises a new era bonding 3 sisters, but is being enacted by their worst enemy. Nandini becomes a person, we get her POV and a little more insight into her and Sierra's mother. We discover a bit more about Tasia and what she can do. We learn a tiny bit more about the Ancients/First Ones, vampires and shifter history. There some contradictory lines, though.
*There's a subspecies of Ancient that has both powers like Ancients and Wizards, but also an animal form. Shifters have to have Packs to stabilize their animals, but even though this subspecies is described as Shifters with powers we learn that they don't have Packs. If Wizard blood can't help Shifters live apart from Packs, how do these Chosen?
*We finally learn about vpires and sunlight. A line in the last book mentioned a pallor that meant less time in the sun, this book shows a vampire swathed in scarves to travel during daylight. Does that mean they can tolerate light in low doses? Not at all?
*We still don't know if vamp feeding is done in bites, using their paralytic venom and meager power to possibly memory wipe, or if it means death. Or blood banks? They're a large Clan, that's a lot of mouths to feed. Some of these methods are going to get noticed.
*Tasia reveals part of her heritage. It's a species already mentioned as having certain abilities. Abilities that leave her able to hear heartbeats, scent blood- not just the powers in it, and a few other things. Her panic over discovering some of these abilities doesn't make sense. It's literally part of her genetic makeup.

I'm enjoying the prophecy mystery, certain aspects of these various Chosen, the bonds being forged and broken and the balance trying to be held while also forging a whole new era of Chosen. There's still some redundancy issues, things repeated a few too many times. Some things contradict each other. But the story, as a whole, is still very entertaining.

The Rainmaker begins when The Prophecy drops off. Tasia is living at the Lair under the protection of the Alpha. After living there several months Tasia has made a lot of friends in the pack however, there are those she isn’t truly comfortable with. Elisabetta always has a sharp remark and watches Tasia closely. Could it be that Elisabetta is jealous or is it something more serious? Tasia doesn’t trust Simonov. There is something about him that seems untrustworthy.
Tasia’s is growing more self-confident. Alpha is strongly attracted to her and makes it clear that he wants a relationship with her, but she is afraid. She has more secrets that she cannot share without placing her world endanger.
Sister number 1 has been found, Sienna. Sister number 2 has been found, Nandini. Where is sister number 3? Lady Bethesda is power hungry. There was a prophecy saying 3 sisters of different fathers would in some way change the Chosen’s world.
Sienna has dreams or visions in which she sees Tasia addressing the Chosen. Tasis has nightmares where she struggles to hold back her beast. Are the visions a look at the future or is she seeing someone’s past.
Guardian Anderson is back again. You would think after Alpha punished him in the last book, he’s have learned his lesson but not Anderson! He comes after Alpha and Tasia again.
Author Petra Landon has woven a tale that is fascinating. The characters are well developed and interesting. The original characters are growing in depth, maturing and showing their skills, secrets and truths. The new characters are adding to the drama. The plot is well done, interesting, delightful and kept me on the edge of my seat. The romance between the alpha and the witchling is what kept me up reading half the night. There are twists and turns that add to the tale. Each character in this 4-book peseries has a backstory; there are clues hidden throughout this tale that shares the background of the characters you may only get a tidbit here and one there but if you read carefully you will find the clues that share that characters past.

I voluntarily received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.  The Rainmaker picks up almost immediately where The Prophecy left off, so this is not a standalone book and needs to be read in order.

Once again I found it helpful to read this on a Kindle with a built-in dictionary, bulwark, limpidly, opprobrium are not words I come across every day and like book one, there is liberal use of the thesaurus.

I started to see a pattern that made the book inordinately long, a key plot point would happen then they would go back and rehash it with the rest of the team, point by point.  A few times would have been fine, but an entire book started to get very repetitive.  Luckily Landon’s writing is excellent so even though things get repetitive; she has a way of throwing Easter eggs into the mix to keep things fresh.

I feel strongly that this book is mainly about character building and setting the players up for the future plot.  There is some action but not a lot.  The scheme also moves but again not a lot.  What I did love was we got to see Tasia and Raoul finally start to get closer, and the attraction that was hinted at in book one finally begins to take a little shape in book 2.  Tasia has so many secrets she is keeping. She is not only Keeping them from Raoul and his pack but also from us readers.  I can’t wait for us to unravel them.

“This dance had begun on a moonlit room amidst a nest full of Vampires, with two Chosen fate had set on a collision course.  One fated to walk in the shadows while longing for the light, and the other fated to be in the spotlight while hankering for the shadows; both a little broken in their own ways, but destined to make the other whole.”

I can’t wait to continue this series, I am so wholly committed to seeing where the mystery takes us and if Tasia and Raoul with have their happily ever after.

Overall recommendation: 4.5 Stars

Review:
Petra Landon strikes again; I loved the book basically as much as the first. It met all my expectations. The series is pretty much turning into an epic urban fantasy (with a really great romance subplot).

Each book feels like several books in one; The plotlines for both books are packed with action, adventure and alot of danger. Especially for Talia as she struggles to keep her secrets hidden. As this book takes place directly after the last, you learn more and more about the 24 yo mystery that is plaguing the Chosen world.

I love alot of the secondary characters, but my favorites so far are Hawk and Duncan. Both of these wyres are sweethearts and are guys I want to have a HEA. I also really want to know more about Nandini, an ancient with snake-like powers. She's a wild card I need to know more about. However, no one compares with Raoul, the Wye Alpha. He's navigating a political situation that's pretty much set to go off like a nuclear bomb if it isn't handled right. Not only is he excelling, he's making ties that will hopefully last past the shit storm that's going to happen in the next book or two.

The only reason, the book doesn't get a full 5 stars is that there are a few scenes that are redundant. I felt like the book could have been more consise if there was another editorial pass. In the long run it doesn't take away from the book. I feel like I'm doing the book a disservice by even lowering the rating.

Please go read this series. It's amazing. I can't stress how much I love these books and this author. I have a hard time finding authors that write stories like these. I guarantee you will love these books if you give them a try. I can't wait for the 3rd book in the series.

Petra Landon once again wisks us away to a world you never want to leave. The Rainmaker has all my favorite things that make up Urban Fantasy. A world within ours, fantastical beings, and a hint of wonder. Petra's writing makes me wonder if this world could really exist out there without us knowing. I have been looking forward to The Rainmaker since I finished The Prophecy. I wasn't let down. Tasia has so many secrets and I wonder if we will ever find out all of them. In this book more of her parentage is revealed as they try to rush and stop a war coming that Lady Bethesda is wanting to start. Intrigue around every corner, I wasn't sure who to trust.

I get so lost in this world that everything around me fades away and I'm completely invested in these wonderful characters. The writing sucks you in and doesn't let go until you look around bleary eyed wondering what day it is. I could curl up inside this book and live there. There were a few times the mystery and intrigue had me gasping. A lot of things I didn't see coming. Just all in all this is such a great series to get lost in. Sometimes I'm not sure if I even want to leave the world!

Tasia and Raoul's relationship changes in this book as well. I won't lie, I was a bit worried. Raoul is still a bit of a mystery to me as is Tasia. We get some questions answered in this book, yet we end up with more at the end. I'm biting my nails waiting to see how the next book will go. I found myself reluctant to finish this book as I wanted to drag it out as much as possible. I'm dying to know more! Great addition to this series! I will be stalking Petra Landon more than ever now!

Outstanding sequel to The Prophecy, this book will answer some question and open up new ones as the group continues to investigate the prophecy and Lady Bethesda. Relationships are growing, slowly as this story progresses. The strong alpha Raoul, continues to protect Tasha as their feelings slowly grow. More characters are introduced in this book as well as a few subplots that will, I am certain, at some point all intersect into bringing this story to it's conclusion.

There is so much to say about this story but as I write this I feel like I should not say more because it should be read with fresh eyes and no outside influence or offerings as to what takes place in the story. This is how I read it, and I was thoroughly enthralled with the story, having no idea what I would be entering into. So I will leave you with this:

This is a magical, enticing, intriguing, exciting and sometimes mystically entrancing book and one that I highly recommend. (Read the first book however or you will not know what is going on).

This author does know how to spin a tale!

I loved book one and the next one, the rainmaker does not disappoint.
In the second book we get to meet more characters. I don't know how the author remembers them all but I am glad to say that I did not get confused with all the new and old characters.
The slow burn romance heats up (just kissing) but something is keeping them apart.
There are a lot of twist and turns and I have to admit that at first I did not know where the story was heading but I started to put the clues together and I have an idea of what might happen in book three.
This book is full of suspense, intrigue, tension and is about wizards, vampires, werewolves, loyalty, friendship and betrayal. It is about good versus evil but the characters are not simply black and white in personality.
That is one of things about this book that I love, the complexity of the characters and the world building. It feels like a real society with real characters.
There are some mild violence, no sexual content and a little profanity.
Would highly recommend this series!
I can't wait for book three to come out.

🐺🧙It just keeps getting better 🧙🐺
Tasia's journey seems to be becoming a bit more convoluted as new characters and truths are revealed
The Prophecy looms heavily over the characters and time is not on their side
Many of the secrets and unknowns from book one are revealed - Some I never saw coming and others left me gripping my kindle in suspense and releasing the occasional shout of "NO" or the breathless "OMG"
Many new breadcrumb trails were also neatly laid out before me just adding to the chaos and pandemonium that our characters are currently facing
Petra continues the story with a magical mix of adventure and malaise and a whole lot of mayhem - there is even a sprinkle of romance
I am eagerly awaiting the release of book 3
This is book two in the series - It is not a standalone

Book 2 draws us more in to the mystery surrounding the Prophesy and Tasia herself. I was happy to find that some of my favorite characters, Tasia, Raoul, Hawk and of course Duncan are back. There are also some wonderful new characters in this book and the complexity of Landon's world continues to unfold. She crosses geographies and cultures that are familiar to us and overlays them with a world of mages and shape shifters that have their own geographies, cultures and hierarchies.
Like the first book, this is a thoroughly enjoyable read. You'll need to have read the first book to jump into this one but Landon does a great job of reminding the reader what happened in the last book so if you think you forgot, you'll probably be fine.

I LOVE this series!! The only problem I have is that it has a hell of a cliff hanger. Did not bother me when I finished the first one; because the second one was out. The third is not out so I am dying for the next book. Dying is a real problem and the struggle is real. I am putting the huge nag to the author to get the next book out like yesterday. LOL

Ok, The story line is awesome. Love the characters. This world is a place I want to stay in. This series is intense, exciting and has become like chocolate or lays potato chips; you just cant stop. Once you start this series I am hoping you will join my nag team; because getting to the next book is driving me nuts.

4 1/2 strs

So this is the 2nd book in the Saga of the Chose and I have to say I enjoyed it as much as the first book, but I am sad there's no 3rd book. I know, I know, it takes time to write a book, but I just didn't want to put this book down so I stayed up late, finishing this book, knowing that there's no 3rd book yet, it's kind of insane to do that. So in summary the story stays strong, I still love all the characters and all the new characters, they are parts that can be trimmed here and there but overall excellent story line, great characters and now I wait........

I’d give this a 4 star for this genre/type, but there is 50% more book than necessary so dropped it down. A lot of introspection and reexplaining why things are a certain way is a bit of a stumbling block for maximum enjoyment. When your kindle says 15 hours to complete - it’s not an error.

Great continuation of the first book. Keeps building the characters from the first novel, while introducing even more secondary characters and growing the plot line. I like that there is such a broad world, but I want to get to the end of the story and found myself immediately jumping to book 3!
