This bundle includes: Spaceman: Book 1 Descent: Book 2 Retrograde: Book 3
No communication. Limited power. An unbreakable will to survive.
A violent blast of solar magnetic radiation plunges much of Earth into darkness. From the decaying orbit of the powerless ISS, to a devolving southeast Texas neighborhood, and a secret doomsday bunker buried deep underneath the Colorado Rockies, The SpaceMan Chronicles tells the story of a stranded astronaut, his family and friends on the ground, and a shadowy conspiracy to rebuild the world in the shape of a new society.
It's written with the help of former astronauts, NASA team members, and well-respected astrophysicists that give the trilogy a unique sense of detail and desperation.
I was able to purchase the boxed set of this series, which includes all three books of the trilogy; Spaceman, Descent, and Retrograde. I had listened to the first volume Spaceman over a year ago, enjoyed it, and reviewed it. Now I have the opportunity for the second and third volumes. Book two picks up as our intrepid astronaut Clayton Shepard manages an unguided reentry to get himself back on Terra firma. Not knowing exactly where he is Clayton makes an educated guess and heads for safety. Back at home everyone is dealing with the power loss and not knowing what has happened or how long it will last, which is probably worse. Deep Six Nikki and Rick are my favorites. Even though only a short amount of time has passed since the event the ne’er do wells begin to make themselves known. Meanwhile the government with select others make plans to tuck its tail and head for the mountain; Cheyenne Mountain that is. Or are they? Seems there is more to this selective evacuation than meets the eye. With the possibility of a second CME conspiracy theories abound as the government initiates the Descent Protocol. Illuminati in the house! This story gets better and better! Book three was a considerable slower pace than prior volumes. The second CME has come and gone with devastating results. This third book focused more on the conspiracy and conversely, Clayton’s efforts to get home. The Spaceman Chronicles trilogy is unique in its scope and excellent in its delivery of a possible future. I heartily recommend this series to any post-apocalyptic fan.
I love these books, this is one of my new favorite authors. His stories are captivating, realistic, and best of all he keeps the profanity to a minimum. These are proof you can write great novels without staining them with vulgarity and other crud. I will probably end up reading all of Tom Abrahams books. If you like dystopian novels, you will like these
The author Tom Abrahams is one of the known for writing excellent books and doing it beautifully. This one is a trilogy and once again shows us how fast humans turn into animals when the complete infrastructure collapses because of lost of electricity and everything that uses microchips. As I’m writing this review of the trilogy I’m still not done listening and as of now it’s very similar to all of books of this genre so nothing special yet which is disappointing for now with some very stupid behavior that you wouldn’t accept from adults. The only thing that could save this trilogy is a very good twist or a few twists because that as of now if it continues the same way there is no hope and for me a waste of 22 hours of listening. Yep this was a waste of time, Tom Abrahams is an awesome writer but not with this trilogy, The Traveler series starting Marcus Battle is so much better and recommended.
The premise of an astronaut trapped in space when solar flares and coronal mass ejections were occurring was what enticed me into buying this book. I kept reading until the end because I wanted to follow the astronaut home. That being said, the ending let me a bit sad in that I wanted to see more resolution to the story and not just leave it at the astronaut arriving home. We are left to wonder at what occurs next in this post apocalyptic word with government conspiracies and the breakdown of society and world order as we know it today. It was an interesting read following several characters in the weeks after the initial coronal mass ejection as they struggled to adjust to and survive in their new world. Mr. Abrahams showcased what people will allow themselves to do and become when faced with such devastating circumstances as well as the good that can shine through. If the author were to publish a sequel to his trilogy, I would gladly revisit the SpaceMan Chronicles.
First of all. I love boxed sets. It tells me I do not have to wait for the next book. Thank you for the bundle. Second. Holy dodo. What a fantastic read. I thought it was going to be a SYFY type story. You fooled me! Tom Abrahams can definitely tell a good story!
I had originally read the individual books with Kindle Unlimited but since I enjoyed this series so much, purchased the box set which Goodreads sees as a different book. This is one of my favorite series. The characters are well done and it has a lot of elements that work well together. It is also well edited. Very enjoyable set.
Definitely a 3 from me. I was pretty uninvolved in it- the actions of one of the main characters in the first book made me dislike them so much that by the time we find out "why" in the third book I just didn't care. Some really odd things pop up that didn't really make much sense. But it was readable, had a few funny parts, so a win overall.
The "side quest" of the spaceman was pretty... special! I'm not that much in the EMP thing (I prefer zombies or when there's a lot of years that have passed since the apocalypse) but it was a fun read.
While interesting on a moment by moment level, overall, I'm quite disappointed with this story. I find it infuriating when a protagonist makes foolish decisions and this protagonist is particularly bad.
Very good series even going a bit outside of the genre in the first book. Went somewhat downhill towards the end with crazy conspiracies and illogical character actions.
