Jill Shalvis is a NYT, USA Today, and Amazon Top 100 bestselling author of small-town romance and romcoms, known for big feels, found family, and plenty of shenanigans.

If you love small-town chaos, meddling friends and neighbors, sizzling chemistry, and heroes who fall hard for the one woman they absolutely did not plan on, you’re in the right place. Jill’s books blend laugh-out-loud moments with emotional gut punches, slow-burn tension, and deeply earned happily ever afters.

She writes the stories she loves to read: small-town romance and romantic comedies packed with heart, heat, second chances, grumpy/sunshine sparks, and the kind of found-family vibes that make you want to move right into the pages. Many of her series are perfect for binge-reading, and a number of her books are available in Kindle Unlimited and at major retailers.

When she’s not writing, she’s probably plotting new ways to torture her characters, avoiding laundry, or daydreaming about fictional men and the strong, complicated women who bring them to their knees—and then making them work for it.

You can follow Jill here on Goodreads to keep up with new releases, add her books to your shelves, and discover which small town you want to get lost in next.

This novella was previously published in 2001 but they changed the cover.

I'm sad to say this, but it's probably the story I enjoyed the least from this author. It's because I'm not a fan of the tv/cook show trope (I don't like the fakeness of it) but especially because the hero just rub me the wrong way. To me, it felt like he was trying to change the heroine and I really hate this kind of things. So things I could otherwise find funny didn't amused me this time and to be honest, I found his behavior a little bit too chauvinist.

But you know I'm the biggest fan of Jill Shalvis so even if this novella was a disappointment for me, I will always recommend her books and cheer for her talent.

A great quick read. This is part of a Twin duet of books and I highly recommend you read both books. I did enjoy this quite a bit. The characters are well written and engaging. The story is delightful and at times funny, at times sexy, at times just down right good.

Eat Your Heart Out was not a great read and definitely not representative of the author's more recent work.

Dimi Anderson enjoys her work as a TV chef but when her network sends in a new producer to revamp the show, Dimi is questioning her choice of career. Producer Mitchell Knight is the man the network calls when a show is on the verge of cancellation. When he arrives on the set of Food Time and sees chef Dimi, Mitchell knows exactly how to fix the show. Up the sex appeal and add in a sidekick to banter with Dimi and they'll be the top show. But when Dimi is resistant to his ideas, Mitchell will have to figure out how to convince her to give him a chance.

To put it mildly, I really disliked this book which was almost entirely because of the "hero" Mitchell. The man is an ass and disregards everything Dimi says and forces her into situations where she's uncomfortable. He makes her wear clothes she isn't comfortable in and gets in her space on the air where she can't get away. Add in the fact that he's the one in charge of determining if she keeps her job or not and their entire relationship felt gross. Besides Mitchell being terrible, all of Dimi's coworkers are kind of jerks as they basically take advantage of the fact the producer likes Dimi.

Overall I didn't like Eat Your Heart Out at all and I definitely recommend skipping this one when reading the author's works.

Maybe I need to stop reading novellas? No, that's not true, I love some but I am more picky.

I do think the problem here was space, there was not too much time for characterisation and I felt a little thrown into the novel (and not in a good way). Maybe I should have read Cami's story first, but that wouldn't have helped with Mitch's background which was intriguing but a little throwaway.

I was also a little put off by the message, sex it up and people will watch? I know it's originally published in 2001 but still. I'm all for being sexy meet-cutes and situations where characters are thrown together in sexy situations, but this felt a shade too close to sleazy for me. They could have had the same interactions if Dimi had decided to change her own wardrobe and if Mitch had stayed behind the camera.

Ack, maybe I'm being too fussy.

I'd recommend this to people who want a quick light-hearted read and if you're a die hard Shalvis fan. If you're after good, strong characters or a more rewarding romance, maybe stick to some of Shalvis's longer series.

As short stories go this one is well written, with a fairly original plot and even funny in places. But...I couldn't connect with the main characters (or the secondary ones, for that matter), and some of the situations we so ridiculous that didn't even make sense. It didn't hold my interest and I can't bring myself to actively recommend it.

Classic Hill Shalvis romance

This is one of my favorite authors. I've always enjoyed the way she sneaks real life humor into her story lines and characters. This book was a quick yet entertaining read that leaves you wanting more. The good news is that this author has a deep collection of books and series that are a must have for your book collection.
Happy reading...enjoy!

It’s not that this was a bad story, but it is so much less than her current work that it was hard to enjoy it, even knowing it’s 17 years old. It felt like the outline of a good story, rather than the story itself.

I normally love Jill Shalvis, but this is an older book - from 2001 - and it just really annoyed me. I got to the point where I just couldn’t read anymore and skimmed through the second half of the book.

Normally love Shalvis

This one just didn’t hit the normally expected humor and romance mark for Shalvis. It was the first time I plodded through hoping it might improve and felt disappointed at the end.

Jill Shalvis has done it again! Love the banter and quick wit between Dimi and Mitchell as well as the love and friendship between 2 sisters. What a fun read!

One of the naivest books I have ever read. It's not about the writing, it's all about the naïve plot and the stupidest (is this a real word?) characters. A waste of time. Sorry.
