The American Jubilee: A National Nightmare Is Closer Than You Think

Rate this book
A major Jubilee is coming to America... soon.

Lots of people will be excited about this once-in-50-years event. The crowds will cheer. And politicians will promise new and better prosperity.

But what will actually happen is a national nightmare.

Americans are suffocating from overwhelming student-loan, auto, and credit-card debts. Meanwhile, wages have remained stagnant (or fallen) compared with inflation.

Low-income households don't have the funds to service the money they owe. And politicians will never allow tens of millions of our poorest citizens to go bankrupt.

There's only one way out: a chaotic and potentially violent financial revolution.

We're already seeing the early signs that this uprising is underway – race riots… violent protests… radicalized politics like the alt-right and "Black Lives Matter" movements…

As in any crisis, the wealthy will make a fortune. But for many, it will mean huge losses. All your hard-earned savings could be wiped out.

That's why Porter Stansberry wrote The American Jubilee.

In it, he explains how this shocking event is likely to play out... how it will affect you and your money... and most important, a few simple, but crucial steps you can take now to not only survive – but prosper – as it unfolds.

Porter Stansberry is the founder of Stansberry Research, a bunch of analysts who hand out financial advice, mostly on stocks but also on commodities and bonds. Porter’s latest book is The American Jubilee. It is much like his previous book, America 2020. In fact, a few chapters are reprinted in this book from the previous one.

The first part of the book calls attention to the impending financial crisis in the United States. The issue is the huge amount of debt accumulated by government, student loans, auto loans, consumer debt, and corporate debt. All debt private and public put together means the average American family owes $808,000. That’s a lot of money people just don’t have.

Porter mentions three previous Jubilees in America, one in 1841, one when FDR closed the banks, and one when Nixon took us off the gold standard. However, once he shows the reader what will happen, he spends the rest of the book explaining what one can do to protect one’s wealth and even how to earn more.

The book is written in layman’s language and is pretty easy to understand. Only one or two times does he have to do a little math to make his point, and it isn’t complicated.

Stansberry Research are relentless marketers, but they sell good products, some quite reasonable and some very expensive. In the book the author gives some good advice. It is general advice, but it is valuable. He doesn’t give any stock picks, but he gives timeless guidelines for picking good stocks and other investments. In the book he will mention certain of his newsletters, which he thinks you would profit from reading.

Should you read this book? If you want to be informed about America’s present economic state and what you can do about it then I would suggest you read it. He was selling the book for $5 including shipping and handling. Amazon will cost more.

I couldn't finish this book. The author has good insights into economics in some ways, and definitely makes predictions based on solid logic. But. This rich man is so far removed from the common, everyday human being that a lot of his advice and some of his interpretations of social movements are laughably off the mark. In the end, I couldn't finish this book.

But, I will say, reading the parts about student loans murdering my generation and therefore the economy was very validating to read.

I've skimmed this book twice. I also subscribe to publications from Stansberry Research. If you have read Stansberry's work for any period of time, everything in The America Jubilee will sound familiar. Porter Stansberry is in the newsletter writing business and writes in such a way as to grab the attention of people who may not have much of an investing background, but are dazzled by impressive investment stories or predictions of calamities to come. I don't fault him for this, it's the nature of the investment newsletter writing business; you have to keep those paying subscribers or generate new ones. However, for long-term readers and those that do have at least some investing background this style does get old and feels folksy and condescending.

On the other hand, if you have read Stansberry's research for some time you will also recognize that once you get past the writing style, his research is good and he has a deep understanding of history, economics, and investing. There are golden nuggets in this book and in his investment advice; you just have to wade through some hype to find it. And, he has made big predictions that proved to be correct. He has a mantra. He wants to share with his readers the things he would want to know about investing if the tables were turned and he was the reader. In my opinion, he makes good on this mantra. The golden nuggets I would rate as five stars, but writing style pulls my overall rating down to three stars.

I read /The American Jubilee: A National Nightmare Is Closer Than You Think/, by Porter Stansberry:

The public equities content is no longer useful to me, but I agree with Porter that the US economy has too much debt, and that a crisis is coming.

Like Porter, I invested in land in South America, among other investments...

Interesting book.

This book is very similar to America 2020. I have read both and would say you probably only need to read one of them to get the same info. Like the author and the book.

Mostly a fear mongering book. All the useful stuff you can pick up from finance books like the Intelligent Investor.

Good read, we're in debt. Our kids are in debt with college tuition. This is a wake up call. Get ready.
