Becoming

Rate this book
It’s madness that we ignore the signs right in front of us. That magic is real, and that monsters are real. Cody thought he'd seen enough monsters. From the bullies, to his broken father; all Cody ever wanted was a normal life. Just as things are looking up, the monsters came back, and unleash something inside him. It's always been there, waiting behind his eyes. It's changed him, and he's not alone.
Becoming is a twisted coming of age horror thriller. There are monsters hiding inside us. After all, if you don't like the skin you're in…change it.

Someone once told me there’s an old Buddhist curse of an interesting life. My family and I have been both cursed, and blessed.

My family has survived health disasters, homelessness, financial destitution, and family abandonment worthy of any day time soap drama.

Yet throughout I have learned that the most important thing of all is to never give up, and never stop loving the ones closest to my heart. My family.

I’m a born and raised native Florida, oldest of three siblings to a loving mother and father. I’m a writer of dark fiction, fantasy, horror, comedy, and music.

I am an artist of words, scribing thought and emotion in the forms and styles that come most natural.

Currently residing in South Florida.

I became enamored by Becoming from the first page. The story is fast paced and does not let up, even on the final page. This book benefits from going in blind, so try to stay away from any spoilers! The less you know, the better the experience.

Cody’s life has always been full of monsters, from the bullies that torment him to his alcoholic, broken father. In this story you’ll follow Cody as he learns what lurks inside of him just beneath the skin. This coming of age horror is just the start of an epic story that I can’t wait to sink my teeth into. There’s a monster inside of all of us, but for some those monsters are all too real.

Couldn't get enough

That was brilliant. I couldn't put it down. Lucas has a way of making your heart break for the characters he creates. This whole story is told by Cody from childhood to adult. His life was pretty sucky all the whole not knowing just how special he was.

Cody’s life has always been rough and full of undesirable people. Real life monsters if you will. Bullies at school and a broken, tuned out father. All of this left him feeling like he never fit in. Even at work he couldn’t escape. A couple of terrifying events happened there which left Cody even more uneasy.
Shortly after leaving his job Cody begins to discover what is really happening within him. Will he embrace this change or absolutely refuse it?

Becoming was my intro to Milliron’s work. Already I’m captivated by his writing style. Every word, every paragraph provides such rich and vivid detail. Always a favorite of mine to be placed right in the story. From the start of the book, I felt an attachment to Cody. You go through the emotions and experiences with him which is another thing I really enjoy in a book. Fantastic writing and characters. I can’t wait to jump into the next book.

Vampires and Werewolves, Oh My!

This is my first time reading a book by Lucas Milliron and I loved how it was written through Cody's perspective. I feel bad for all Cody has been through and he never realized how special he actually was until he really build up with rage. I really liked the story and always was looking forward to what was going to happen next. I'll definitely be reading more by this author. Thank you for an awesome story!

Today I finished Becoming by Lucas Milliron. I almost can’t say anything about it without giving stuff away. Everytime that I thought I knew what was going to happen, it went an entirely different direction. It’s so full of twists and turns. It will leave you reeling and desiring to find out what comes next. Like the book says, “If you don’t like the skin you’re in, change it.” Grab this. You won’t be sorry.

This is a beautifully written, underdog story. One where you are immediately invested in the main character, and made to truly feel for him and his situation.

An underdog, whose chance at redemption is taken suddenly from him, is filled with anger, hatred, and regret, and then he finds himself completely alone and having to stand up to the world and it's trials and tribulations. When he finally finds himself, discovers his true reason for being, he becomes a real beast of a man…

And that's where the story takes a brilliant turn into the horrifically fantastical world of monsters and more.

Powerful, emotional, intriguing and gripping from the off, this book bites!

A refreshing and brilliant twist on the genre, where the vampires and werewolves are the least of your worries….

Eh

A little confusing at times. Felt like the story was jumping. Pretty basic new werewolf learning to deal. Not bad. Just kind of boring to me.

Very Unique

I am in love with this story! An original tale of werewolves, vampires, and other monsters from our worst nightmares. It follows the unique viewpoint of the main character, Cody, as he is transitioning from his human form. I am always drawn into a story with strong vocabulary and usage of language that provokes clear visuals. There were sentences that I had to stop and savor because the detail was so vivid that it brought a smile to my face as I closed my eyes and imagined the scene. In my head, the action takes place in the slow-motion style of a John Woo film, every detail sharp and crisp. It truly enriches the story to be able to visualize so clearly. Additionally, characters are really fleshed out well. The emotions are raw and intense. You find yourself engulfed by the trauma, fear, or peace characters feel. I highly recommend this book, particularly if you enjoy monster stories. I am ready to delve into book two!

Went into this blind and I’m glad I did! It was a lot of fun and written well. I loved how the words flowed especially in the first 1/3 of the book. Starting part 2 now!
