Born into a strictly religious family, nineteen-year-old Lucy Whitman likes to think she's gotten past her stifling upbringing. After all, she's not a virgin. But when her best guy friend of ten years admits he's part of a community with an "open-door policy" on sex, Lucy is intrigued. She's always wanted Rylan with a fierceness bordering on obsession, but he has never treated her as anything other than a sister.
Getting him to agree to take her may be her only shot at having him in her bed, but Rylan's reluctant agreement comes with three stipulations. One: she can't tell anyone. Two: she'll have to be okay with him being her main partner, even if it's completely weird for them both. Three: she has to do anything he tells her to-no questions asked.
Lucy knows promising to obey is her best chance to venture outside the box. Now if she can only find the courage to let go of her inhibitions, she'll have the perfect opportunity to discover her true self while going after exactly what she wants-Ry.
This is a new to me author and narrator and I loved it, I wished it was longer. Lucy just wants to be seen by Rylan. And if I were a betting girl he has always wanted her but he was afraid she wouldn’t or couldn’t accept who he is.
I enjoyed the sexual awakening Lucy goes through from the MM to FF to MFM. Usually, with books so short, you don’t get enough time to really like the characters but I didn’t feel like that with this book. I really liked how open and honest Lucy is and how Rylan’s hope shines through.
The narration was really well done as well I liked it and it brought something extra to the story.
Audiobook Review: This is the first book I have read from Anna Ambrose and narrated by JD Elcie. I was truly intrigued. Lucy Whitman has been friends with Rylan for years and harbored some tender feelings for him. Lucy is going thru a breakup and decides to go with Rylan. This book is very scorching and entertaining, but short.
A quick read i listened to the Audio The Narrator was brilliant......
The group thing not really my type of flavor... But saying that the chemistry between Ry and Luce was addictive......
Im gunna go with 3 stars as there really wasn't much of a story per se... But im sure lots of peeps would enjoy if Menage is to your tastes and you just want pure smut... This is the book for you!
Lucy has always been in love with her best friend, Rylan. One night, while feeling down over a recent breakup after her bf cheats, she convinces Ry to take her to the same club he saw her bf with another girl. It turns out to be the hottest, best sex of her life. All it takes is one orgy to convince Ry she is the girl for him.
I liked it, it was short and to the point, with a HFN that I can see turning into a HEA
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Anna Ambrose. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
My review will be short and sweet, just like the story, although sweet might not be the right word for this story. It was extremely sexy, so much that I was a little worried about listening to it right before getting to work, because it definitely was the kind of story to get you as hot and bothered as the characters. Well, maybe not quite as hot as the characters, because, WHEW! I need a fan just remembering!
While I may not have been in to quite everything that they did in this story, it all fit perfectly with what was happening. I also like that while Rylan definitely got caveman about having Lucy as HIS, he wasn't to the point that he couldn't see how she might enjoy the other things going on, with other people, the same as he did. It didn't turn him off for her to want to experiment and enjoy her sexuality just as much as he did. To me that is a definite positive, and helps with making sure it is fair for both sexes in this type of a situation and story.
I do look forward to reading more by this author, as I assume they'll be just as steamy!
I was given a free review copy of this audiobook — at my request — and have voluntarily left this review.
So let me just say this, WELL DAMN!!! I was not expecting all that to happen. I was a bit shook. At times I felt like Lucy. This book is definitely not for the fate at heart. This is not a love story so if you think there is going to be roses and date nights this is not the book for you. This book was what I needed since I am tired of the insta-love troupe.
Lucy and Rylan have loved one another for a long time but both are scared to admit it to one another. This story helped them get over whatever shyness they had with one another in a major way.
This book was well written and I liked the narrator.
Lucy & Rylan are best friends. They’ve both lusted over each other (silently) but it isn’t until Lucy’s dickhead boyfriend screws her over, that they finally act on it!
Ry belongs to a sex club, while there one night sees Lucy’s loser bf doing the dirty with other women. Of course, Lucy is upset but more curious as to what all the fuss is about.
So, when she asks to go see for herself, Ry agrees but only if she obeys his rules. She agrees.
Oh yeah. That’s when the smoking fire hotness happens.
Sweet. Baby. Jesus.
Just go read it. You’re panties will disintegrate.
I don’t often read erotica because after reading Anne Rice there isn’t much still to be read. That being said occasionally a synopsis will catch my attention and I’ll give it a spin and this one didn’t disappoint.
No, there are no groundbreaking revelations that are going to hit you, but it definitely has a sort of Eyes Wide Shut, underground, secret club vibe that I really liked, and wouldn’t mind visiting there again in future stories.
Overall 4 1/2 Stars (rounded up to 5) and a recommendation for anyone looking for a short, steamy read.
First, let's hear 3 cheers for sex positivity. Because that is important. It is important that people should be able to have whatever kind of sex they want, with whomever they want, without any sort of shame, as long as all participants - including spectators - are all consenting adults...
However, sex positivity is not when someone brings you to a skanky sex house, where all doors have been removed, and the rules of admission requires you to have sex with multiple partners (whether that's your thing or not) and to obey your douchebag friend's every command without question, without him offering you a way out in the form of a safeword...
Does Lucy enjoy all the stuff goes on? sure, but that's not really the point is it. The point is, that she didn't really have a choice. And since she didn't have a safeword provided, I'm assuming no one else had one either. So when two guys holds down a girl and smacks her with a riding crop, whilst she yells stop, I don't really care that she actually loves it! If she wasn't given a safeword, then stop means freaking stop! Forced bondage and impact play without clear consent or safeword = not sexy at all!
Let's be real here for a second. I read a lot of dub con and non con and I love it! But there's a time and a place. And a fluffy college romance is not the time or the place for either of these things, unless you are trying to make a point about consent, and in that case, the guy who disregards consent is surely NOT the hero of our story?
I tried to read this as an erotic fantasy of sexual awakening - but I never got over the dubious consent and the lack of condoms mentioned creeped me out too - the only time a condom was mentioned was when two men had penetrative anal sex - for a place where college kids go to fuck, with the "you have to have sex with at least 2 of us to get in here"-rule, this place just scream STD to high heaven for me!
So, yeah, no. I couldn't with this story. I thank the author for the review copy, but this was not for me! The only thing I could think of all the way through was that the title should have been: The Douchebag and the Doormat.
Now that the holidays are just around the corner people are going to start getting busier and may not have the time to listen to a book. If you like a book that has plenty of steam and don't mind the idea of a "club" than you will like this book. The only issue I had was that the ending seemed rushed and abrupt.
It seemed that Ms. Elcie had my attention but when she gets to the end of the story she had me say, not once but twice - yes, I listened to the book twice, "wait, what?" That's no fault to our narrator it's just the way, in my opinion, the author wrote her ending. Our narrator was ok at getting my attention. Did she have me picturing the characters? Not really but that didn't bother me. She saved me the time of trying to read the book myself. My eyes and hands can be busy with something else while the narrator keeps my mind occupied with the story. Would I check out more of her work? Sure. I'd be interested to see what else she has in her arsenal.
Ms. Ambrose also caught my attention especially with how she starts her story off. Yes, her ending at least for me ended quite abruptly but it did leave me curious as to where this series is going and that's why I gave the story a rating of Pretty Good. Her second book in the series is also out in audiobook. I would like to listen to Xander and then go back and listen to the two again to see if it helps me with being confused at the end. Would I read any of her other material? Should she write anything else, I certainly would be curious enough to check it out.
I voluntarily reviewed an Audiobook copy of this book
Lucy by Anna Ambrose is the first book in An Open-Door Policy Novella Series that I listened to on audio narrated by JD Elcie. All I can say is Wow! Anna did an amazing job with the steamy sex scenes that just pull you into the story and make you want to be there. I cannot wait to dive into book two Xander. JD did an amazing job narrating and bringing the storyline to life. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Erotic Romances.
I really liked Lucy and Ryan and for such a short erotic novel there was a lot of depth to their characters. It is explicitly erotica and features group sex but I enjoyed the ‘secret’ society that is the Open Door Club. The sexual discovery for Lucy is very extensive and features MM interactions. As mentioned in my review of Xander, another of Anna’s Open Door Policy Novellas I felt this story laid the foundations for Xander and Liam’s story with Lucy’s insight and the interactions noted and played on through this novella.
Very erotic, steamy and sexy with a happily ever after for two best friends!!
If you're looking for a quick, hot, sexy read, give Lucy by Anna Ambrose a go.
The first in her Open Door Policy Series, we meet shy, innocent Lucy who after learning about her cheating boyfriend she decides she wants to visit the place where he was caught by her best friend Kylan.
She's been crushing on him for ages, and whilst he was her friend, he was also her protector and did not think she was ready for the sexy club that he was part of.
You'll need a fan, and possibly new underwear.
A great quick friends to lovers erotic romance book, face paced and full of action.
I don't know where to start, this audio book was EVERYTHING! it was written and narrated perfectly it had me hooked the entire time , it was crazy hot and yet sweet all at the same time , even though the blurb says Lucy's family is strictly religious it doesn't focus on that at all and you kind of forget about it too so don't let that put you off I'm so glad I got a chance to listen and review this book , can't wait to read/listen to Xander's story .
Lucy (Open-Door Policy, #1) by Anna Ambrose was a great quick read. Lucy was born into a very religious family and always followed their strict rules growing up. Now she's nineteen and not a virgin. Her best guy friend Rylan tells her about a community that he is a part of. I absolutely enjoyed reading Lucy and Rylan's story.
This book had a interesting twist on college life.
The author Anna Ambrose was able to bring 5 people, 1 house to meet at for sex regularly. until they bring a new girl in that really likes one of the guys.
Lucy tired of being the nice girl wants to see what the thrill of group is. She makes her best friend take her but she has to participate. She is shocked by what she sees but it also turns her own. This book is short but hot.
Lucy and Ry have been long time friends but Lucy wants Ry and as it turns out he wanted her but didn't think she could handle the Sex club that he enjoyed. Very short and sweet
I want more!! Another quick novella that is perhaps all about the steam. But as I'm finding with Anna, there seems to be an underlying theme in her stories. Lucy is good girl extraordaire. Raised in a very strict, religious household, she is trying to spread her wings and find out who she really is. She has crushed on her best friend, Rylan forever but she thinks he is way out of her league...and he may be....Does she have what it takes to be everything he needs? Does she have what it takes to give herself over to her desires?

Rylan and Lucy have been friends since forever. When she finds out from Ry, that her boyfriend was seen at a “sex house”, Lucy wants to know what drew him there. With Ry giving Lucy three rules, letting her come and an initiation, will their friendship change forever? Because Lucy has always wanted Rylan, but he’s never reciprocated the feelings. Will one night in the “sex house” change it all?
This novella is full of heat. Like damn. The author doesn’t hold back with the scenes... hallelujah!!! You feel like you’re sitting in the room with Rylan, Lucy, and three other guest. I would like more backstory. Like, how did this come about? What made Rylan turn to this kind of lifestyle? But hopefully we’ll learn more as the series evolves.
Quick and sexy erotic story that satisfies. Lucy starts out as a sheltered girl who was raised in a religious family but with the experiences she has with Dylan and the Open Door Policy sex club, she learns the truth about herself... and it's hot. I received this book as an Advanced Readers Copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
Its hard for me to give more than 3 stars for a short novella. This book was no more than 1 long sex scene.
I was more interested in the next book Xander but was told this book give an introduction to them so its best to listen to this one first. I actually really enjoyed that part of the book (might have been my favorite part) so excited for book 2.
I enjoyed the book and it's storyline. This genre of book is one of my favorites. The author captured my interest from the first page til the last. I enjoyed the sex scenes too.
Anna Ambrose has my cheeks a little red in this 🔥 hot novella about opening yourself up to more inside and outside the bedroom. When Lucy goes for what she wants she gets it all!
Wowsers! What a start to a series. Good little religious girl wants to go to a sex club for the night when she finds out her boyfriend was cheating on her there and her best friend - who she’s also in love with - is a member there so can help make that happy. And wow. It was a great read. Normally with stories where multiple characters are having sex at the same time the author can lose a handle of where everyone is and what they’re doing but this isn’t the case. I couldn’t put the book down and I can’t wait to meet Xander in his following story. Quick, steamy read that’ll happily help you kill an hour or two.
Narration was perfection on this short Novella, as gasps and cries in passion where so realistic portrayed I kept blushing at the intimate intrusion as the character Lucy experiments in a group setting while also becoming an audience to M/M & MMF scenes.
there was no conflict and the confession from the best friend in the end was very obvious while there is resolution for what becomes two love interest I felt it needed more to a story line. However as a short this was still a good moment to loose yourself on.
Lucy (Open-Door Policy, #1) was graciously provided to me by the author for an honest review. Review to follow.
A Novella Built On Love, Discovery and Acceptance..
What an intriguing, sweet, and yet, incredibly hot and erotic read I just had the pleasure of reading. Lucy (Open-Door Policy #1) by Anna Ambrose was my first read from this author, and, having gone into this read without knowing much about it, I was pleasantly surprised with how complete and well-rounded it turned out to be, and for those reasons, it will definitely not be my last.
With its realistic and excellently written characters, this story, despite being a novella, contained a thoroughly established storyline with a well-developed plot as well. I was immediately engrossed with the history of the two main characters, Lucy and Rylan, and found myself equally interested in how things would turn out for them. As each had been at a disguised cross-road of their friendship, it was very interesting to discover that through the discovery of life for both of them, there had already existed a comforting and welcomed realization that neither had even expected had existed and in the end, had greatly welcomed.
As briefly mentioned, the main and secondary characters were well-written for this novella, and in addition, the secondary characters had this underlying mysterious and gripping subplot to them that had this reader already heavily invested in their individual stories. I can only hope that each of them will have their own stories, as I already look forward to reading future books containing these welcoming and interesting characters.
While I had craved more character development as well as more development to the story as a whole, I loved this story and am so glad to have read it! :)
WOW this was a hot & steamy quick read! Lucy just found out from her best friend Rylan that her boyfriend has been cheating on her. How does he know? He was at the same place, a place where Rylan meets others for sex & has an open-door policy. Intrigued, she begs for him to take her there. She’s always had a crush on him & wants him in any way she can get him, even though he only sees her as a sister.
Wow the heat factor was scorching!! The author really knows how to keep the reader’s attention. Even with everything going on around her the author is focused on Lucy, her feelings & emotions as she’s seeing things she’s never seen before. A great, quick read. Looking forward to Xander’s book next!
