Clean Dystopian/Sci-fi

When Dr. Meghan Forester, a young researcher, helps create a vaccine for the deadly Makanza virus, her goal to annihilate the virus is coming true.

But the question remains—what becomes of the Kazzies? They’ll always be infected carriers of the terrifying virus. Despite being newly vaccinated, the public still believes they’ll die if exposed.

To save the only man she’s ever loved, she must pay a price.

Reservation 1 was a great addition to the Makanza series and another easy, clean, and suspenseful read .Meg is still desperately trying to free her Kazzies from the grip of the government but keeps hitting walls everytime it seems she’s going to make some progress. The relationship between Meg and Davin grows a tiny bit but it’s a slow burn and there’s still hurdles to overcome. Meg decides to make a bargain thinking she’s doing good but I have a feeling she will definitely regret it!! Can’t wait to see what happens next.

3.5 stars because the ending is SUUUUUUPER frustrating. Otherwise I would probably have given it four stars. The ending has one of those endings where the character does something insanely stupid that could easily have been avoided and it frustrates the heck out of the reader. Also this is still super slow burn, I guess this is probably a YA? I don't generally read YA because I usually want more smutty stuff but the storyline has been good enough to keep me interested. I really hope book three is a bit less bleak though, this one was a tough pill to swallow.

Rating down for the series as a whole. First book was pretty good. It just goes down hill from there. This book was probably a 2.5 star rating. (Only because I kept reading even if I knew I shouldn’t) it was literally just okay, just extremely-annoying-repetitive. I was under the impression it was supposed to be an adult novel but it reads like a very childish middle school age YA novel.
I got about halfway before I wanted to quit, but I only kept going because it hoped it would get better. It really doesn’t, the main h is annoying and obsessive in this (to a stalkerish amount). I felt bad for her love interest because he quite literally could go nowhere to get away from her.
Cons:
-It goes over the same three conversations over and over like a broken record. 1. She obsesses over her and Devins dysfunctional, lopsided, inappropriate relationship. 2. They talk about helping the Kazzies with very immature plans and thinking despite the fact she’s supposed to be a genius. 3. Her apparent unspoken autism that only comes out in the stories when it’s convieniet.
-the ending sets the third book up for something better but it’s the same monotonous bad writing.

Save yourself and just read the first one. Come up with your own ending because pretty much anything, even the most predictable boring endings are better than this.

After reading the first book in the Compound 26 series, I couldn't wait to read the second. Once more I was pulled into the story right from the start. I was on the edge of my seat, wanting to join forces with Meg and the Kazzies. My emotions were all over the place. I was anxious, frustrated, happy, surprised, sad, proud, and I even needed tissues. What else could you want from a book but to be so totally immersed in it? Krista Street delivered again. And once again, I can't wait to read the next book in this series! Krista Street is now definitely on my list of authors to follow.

I received this ebook free from the author. I was not asked to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are my own. Receiving a complimentary copy did not affect my review of this ebook.

Good.

Good book. Dr Roberts is a complete monster and needs to be stopped. The hate for the kazzies is believable and I can see it happening. The think that bothered me the most was meghan's decision at the end of the book. I just don't understand her reasoning.

The second book Reservation 1 in the Makanza series by Krista Street, is even more boring than the first book, without nothing new or unique to show off. The introduced fantasy elements are not used. We have these awesome abilities, like a copy of the X-men, here called the Kazzies, but they play not one significant role in this book or are even used.
We have a heroine who makes every situation more dramatic than it actually is. We have a lot of repetitions, unnecessary and boring, 50% is a continuous repeat of what we have already learned and experienced in book 1. The romance which slowly build in book 1 gets pretty annoying and regresses instead. And again we have the most boring cliffhanger in the history of fantasy books, the heroine makes a laughable deal with the so called villain while they face off in an interrogation room.

Reservation 1 continues Krista’s wonderfully told story of Meghan and Davin and the struggle to get the Kazzies accepted as what they truly are, victims and survivors and most of all HUMANS.
In this installment, Meghan is now the poster child for the vaccine developed based on her work with Davin. Now she and Dr. Hutchinson are working to get the Kazzies reintegrated into society. Unfortunately, they are only able to get the Kazzies from the entire country removed from the compounds and placed on a reservation under the power of an old enemy.
Is being made to live on a reservation never able to leave the area and such strict guidelines in place that it is unlikely anyone can visit any better than their lives were at thee compounds? Aren't they still prisoners? As Davin and Meghan know isn't this just what was done to the Native American tribes years ago? Isn't the treatment of Kazzies just been a continued fear-based knee jerk reaction to someone anyone who is different in any way from the majority? Thanks to the Kazzies there is a vaccine that has made it safe for people to live their lives again but instead the US government and a huge portion of the population are still seeing them as criminals or lepers just because they have new looks and abilities.
Krista in her writing made me feel as if I were there next to Meghan trying to save our friends from this horrible injustice. All of the characters are written so we feel as if we have a relationship with them ourselves. I could feel the sisterly love between Sara and Meghan and the tortured love she feels for Davin. I can't wait to continue this series to see what they all do to right this horrific wrong done to the Kazzies and their loved ones.

I received a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Continuing with this amazing series! I have to congratulate the author for all the scientific terms and references used, were they accurate or fictional, that must've either required a certain degree of knowledge in the medical field, or very well done research on the subject. Eitherway, it was truly fascinating to learn about the virus and its diverse variants!!

It was frustrating how the Kazzies weren't allowed their freedom, even after a vaccine was developed, released to the public and proved to be effective. Davin and the rest were still considered a threat, for the simple reason of surviving the otherwise deathly virus, and developing superhuman abilities. People thought of them as animals, monsters, weirdos and all kinds of inhuman names you could think of.

So the group was simply dragged from one prison to another, and as if matters weren't already complicated, a character I KNEW wasn't completely out of the picture made a reappearance! One who's purpose wasn't to find a cure, but to derive some s!ck pleasure out of committing all kinds of atrøcıtīes on those poor sůrv!vőrs, without being held accountable! Sound familiar?

To no one's surprise, Davin's resolve to let Meghan "live her life without him" only grew stronger, and that really gritted on my nerves 😤 what he was trying to do was admirable, letting her go before either of them had a chance to confess their feelings or for both to act on them, thinking that was the best way to protect her from heartbreak 💔 but we all know how that ends. When love is one sided, moving on is the right path to follow; but when feelings are reciprocated, ignoring them and pushing the other party away never works 😏

Hopefully the two star crossed lovers get reunited in the next book, relieving me of my  suffering 😭💔 and hopefully our beloved characters find a way to put an end to that sadistic someone's tyranny!!

This second book read SO much different than the first one. The first book had great character depth and development, and I was able to connect with Meghan on a certain level. I loved how smart she was. I could also see her begin to break out of her shell and could sense her courage beginning to grow. I loved reading this transformation she seemed to be going through.

Then I come the second book, and it seems that all the qualities I loved about her just went to the wayside because she got too caught up wishing and hoping the guy she's in love with would want to be with her. That's all she seemed to be worried about now. And did he want to be with her? Did he not? It seemed like most of the time he was rather annoyed with her or didn't even want to be with her. The chemistry was simply NOT there. When there were scenes that were supposed to depict tension and desire between them, it felt like the author just copied and pasted what she thought sounded good but it did not translate well. It actually made me annoyed with it all.

This book was a big disappointment as I absolutely loved the first one. I am debating on whether to read the third one. I just don't want to read the same Meghan in the second book because I wouldn't be able to take it. Bring back the first Meghan!

What do you do when things seem impossible and there are many that want to thwart your progress. If you’re Meghan Forester you refortify and strengthen your defenses and completely devote yourself to making the impossible possible.
Reservation 1 is a tempestuous story. Each new development inspired many different emotions. I was happy, hopeful, sad and angry while reading this chapter of Meghan and her friends journey.
I loved getting to see the different perceptions that Meghan obtains through her experiences in this book. She’s always been an admirable individual but I could see her developing into quite a formidable opponent now.
This part of their journey ends on kind of a sad note but it left me hopeful. I have a feeling there are great things to come in the next book. I can’t wait to dive in. (4.5⭐️)

Forbidden love

It’s a pretty good plot to continue the series. Meg and Davin got closer which I truly appreciate...but “it can never be” was way overuse phrase. I mean, I get it! They can’t be together, “forbidden love” and all. Furthermore, it took awhile to get to the point/step for the kazzies. It dragged a little. Yet, it doesn’t mean I wasn’t intrigued to read on. I didn’t lose interests for the kazzies and getting justice for them. So, in that sense, it’s a 5 stars for me! I think, however, if I read this on my own, I would struggle big time and so happy they decided to have the audio on book 2. I saw book 3 does have audio, too! Hoping book 4 will get the audio (crosses fingers)

Dr. Meghan Forester has helped develop a vaccine for the deadly Makanza virus that has crippled the global population. Her goal of annihilating the virus is coming true... but what about the Kazzies, the survivors? Despite being newly vaccinated, the public still believes they'll die if exposed. The Kazzies are relegated to a decimated Souix reservation where they will all be moved into a newly built town, separated from the rest of society. But where does that leave Meghan... and her love for Davin?

This series is so good. Honestly, it brings up a lot of the feelings and thoughts we all had during COVID and seems nearly prophetic in some moments. Absolutely a binge-read. Continuing book 3 immediately!

(hoopla) What a rollercoaster! Wow! I couldn't put this one down! I sometimes wanted to shake the characters and yell at them - but mostly I love them. I don't blame Meghan for never wanting to leave Davins side. He deserves someone solid. The medical portion is very questionable (We created a vaccine that prevents 41 different strains of a deadly illness and within 5 months of it's creation, the whole world was injected! Um... safety and efficacy are not a thing for these "scientists"? Nope! it's apparently 100% effective with zero adverse reactions - never mind long term health complications! 😆) Not in the realm of possibility BUT I don't read for the science, I read for the drama!! And THAT it has!! I already downloaded book 3!! Wheeeee 🎢 !!!

Wonderful

Such a delight to read another excellent book by Krista Street. The story continues with the beloved "Kazzie's" being sent to the reservation. The public think they are contained within the walls of this new reservation built exclusively for them. They are being treated like prisoners and worse. The director is pure evil and hates the "Kazzies". Will they ever be allowed some of the freedoms that living on the reservation were promised?
Krista Street has done an excellent job telling this story. It's as if her heart is telling it.
I look forward to reading the next book of the Mankanza series. I don't believe I will be disappointed.

Reservation 1: The Makanza Series, Book Two was a great read by Krista Street. Meghan has created a vaccine for the Makanza virus and is close to achieving her goals. Unfortunately it isn't known what will happen to the Kazzies. The public is still scared and believes that they will still die even though they are vaccinated. Meghan finds herself in a frightening even and without meaning to becomes the poster child to free the Kazzies. Meghan will do anything in order to save Davin, the only man she's loved. I loved reading more of Meghan and Davin's story and can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Meghan and Davin find trouble at every turn. Davin is convinced that they will never have a future together. Meghan refuses to accept a future without him. She works tirelessly trying to gain his and all of the Kazzie's freedom. There was so much disappointment and sorrow in this book, every attempt to free the Kazzies was rejected, every chance to establish a strong bond between Meghan and Davin was crushed, and the atrocities continued. Although the overall context of this book was very sad, I found the story fascinating.

2.5 pretty unsatisfying end. The book starts months after Book 1 ended and it felt like it left out all the exciting parts. A vaccine! But, no, we only hear that there is one and it supposedly works. The book kept the same level of blah throughout. The book was pretty slow paced, the dialogue was kind of meh, the relationship regressed with the lead making horrible decisions for someone who is so brilliant. Pretty annoying read. The only saving grace to this book is that it may redeem itself in another book if the series.

Disappointed...

Well it was intense and kinda painful but I finished it. The only thing I feel is that I might have been let down. It was a 180 turn for me. Davin was selfish and Meg was a *****. So much was unsaid. I kept waiting and waiting then the book was over. Frustrated. That's how I feel. I dunno how many books in the series but if the next one won't be better then I am done with it. The characters dead end love story and the hopelessness I felt for humanity is just depressing. Are we really THAT bad? I know but I just don't want to accept it.

This was such a good sequel but man was it frustrating.

I hated the way the misunderstanding was handled with Davin and Meghan regarding Mitch.

It was really, really stupid.

Literally one of those dumb truncated problems that can be solved if the characters talk.

And the ending was even WORSE about it.

That said, this book made me feel so much for the characters.

I was angry, annoyed, disturbed, livid, frustrated, and sad.

And I love the way this author keeps you engaged and invested in what will happen to these characters.

Definitely a series I can’t wait to finish.

Anyone else super annoyed with Meghan and Davin and their constant tiptoeing around each other? So much would have been solved with a real talk, but then these books would have been shorter and fewer in number. ;)

Anyway, a good continuation of the story that again, left me wanting more. I'm not sure if these are widely known, or just independent books, or what. I'm glad I stumbled across the series, though, because it's intriguing!

from one prison to another

this is still a solid romance novel. the politics make sense whilst not bogging the story down. the plot sounds real enough. we wouldnt accept the kansies. if not because of the desease then because they are different and we always fear whats different. i liked the ending, meg walking away to save them from the director. this book would probably appeal to anyone who likes romance and dystopian or supernatural stories.

The journey continues for Meghan and Davin. Gah, this is by far my favorite book. So much happens in this book!!
The character development in this book compared to book 1 is fantastic. Everyone is growing up and the love between two people that can’t seem to ever blossom, such a heartbreak. Continuing into book #3!! Must read series!

Meghan is an amazing character and we watched her blossom from shy and anxious to being the cover girl for vaccine awareness - considering her breakthrough led to the finding of said vaccine.

What I can say is I find it crazy that the mutations the virus causes and how there re so many types of the virus.

I hated how the book ended. I’d I hadn’t been reading on my phone I would have thrown it across the room. I cried my eyes out.

You should definitely read this book!!!

So, I liked the first one better, but this one was still very fun. Society is a bit more of a mess in this one, for understandable reasons. You get to see a bit more of the additional abilities and get some more details about the events. I will say this one felt like it progressed slower than the first, and there were times I wasn't as engaged.

Overall, I still liked it, and liked our characters. I'm curious where things will go from here.

Following on from a decent first book Krista Street is unable to carry any momentum into Reservation 1 (#2) and outs herself for what she really is; which is an author who is unable to write even the slightest bit of originality into her works.

Failing to evolve characters past what we learn in Compound 26 (#1) is not just a mistake but a clear showcase as to the lack of writing prowess Krista Street possesses.

Rarely do I fail to finish a book but couldn’t get through this one, a lame melodrama which drops the reader’s interest due to a lack of development of both the characters but the universe around them.

The battle for their freedom continues, despite a vaccine that can keep the public safe from another outbreak. Fear of the disease brings anger, protests, and uncertainty of what fate will come of those infected...

I enjoyed Meghan's growth in this book and I enjoyed getting to know the Kazzies more! It definitely leads into the next book in the series, leaving you with antici...pation

Can't read this fast enough.

This series has me reading each book in less then 24 hrs. I can't read the books fast enough. I have to know what will come of the Kazzie's. I have to see if Megan can win her battle to protect them. Very interesting storyline. Different from any other I have read. The author is an awesome story teller.
