She thinks she’s broken and I’m the one to fix her.
As an ex-Navy SEAL there are a few guarantees in life.
Avoiding relationships is one of them. Dealing with PTSD is another.
So when I come across the Reckless Bastards MC, it’s perfect for a man like me.
Last thing I expect is to encounter Jana Carter at a painting class. Don’t ask why I was there.
I can hardly keep my eyes off of her. She’s a shy, sultry vixen, and she grabs a hold of me so hard, I can’t let go.
But, I don’t expect to fall for any women—much less find one who can deal with me and my messed up past.
Just when I thought I’d built strong walls around my heart, I discover her walls are reinforced with steel. She’s so pure, so innocent—and hard.
Against all the odds, I want her.
I’ll do anything to have her, to make her mine.

Great start to the series!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😪😠🤐🙂

The heroine: Jana - she is reserved and has a scar on the side of her face stemming from a traumatic incident in her past. She is curvy and blonde and has low self esteem due to both her curves and her scar. Especially when she hangs out with her ex-model best friend who gets all the attention.

The Hero: Max - he left the Navy Seals with PTSD and came home to Mayhem, Nevada to find out that his brother was in prison, though his brother’s MC, the Reckless Bastards, took him in and he is now a full fledged member. When his PTSD starts acting up and nightmares are keeping him up at night, his psychologist suggested he take some art classes to calm his mind since he likes to paint so much.

The Story: Max shows up at art class and sits next to Jana and they start talking as they worked. He likes her and is by her. Though he could hardly see her since her face was covered by her hair for most of the night, he thinks she is hiding something like possibly a black eye. When Max does see her scar, he is not bothered at all by it, in fact he has scars all over his body from his time in the Seals.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. Narrated by James Larceny and Summer Morton, they both have pleasing voices which I really enjoyed. I liked where the story went in this book and how the romance between Max and Jana developed. It wasn’t your typical MC romance, it was more like Max just happened to be a biker. Much of it took place at Jana’s house, not at the MC clubhouse like some biker romances.

This is one of these stories with two beautifully broken characters that is beautifully written that left tears in my eyes more than a few times and a story that I loved so much that even though I received an advanced copy...I had to buy it !!!
Max was a SEAL and now suffers from PTSD in the form of nightmares from the last mission he was on that went wrong. Jana is a woman who’s past has left more than just physical scars on her. They meet in an art class and Max can’t help but notice the beauty beside him, but she’s hiding something and when Max finds out what it is, he doesn’t treat her any differently, which in turn has Jana opening up to him in more ways than one. But they both have ghosts that haunt them, Max more than her, so to be able to move forward they have to deal with the past and present threatening to ruin what they could have for a future.
What an amazing story that had me in tears more than once, keeping the Kleenex beside me just in case as I flipped page after page. Jana, what a woman, kind, compassionate, insightful, caring, loving, strong and beautifully broken woman who deserves more than what life had gotten her. Max was a bit more complicated but when he realizes what he feels for Jana...sunshine bursting through the clouds. Their relationship is rocky from the get go but how it all comes together, with all the realizations about each other and themselves...beautiful.

Max is a former Navy SEAL struggling with nightmares and seeing a therapist about them. When his therapist gives him a task to funnel his feelings through art, he takes a class and meets Jana Carter. Jana is a bit of a hermit, except when she takes her art classes. She doesn't quite know what to make of Max who seems to be interested in her but is sending mixed messages. They begin spending more time together but Max is working through his demons which are pushing Jana away. Can he find a path to healing while keeping Jana where he wants her, by his side?

This was not quite what I expected. I thought this would be a biker story but it really isn't, yes he is a biker but not much in the story about it. I also thought the chemistry between Jana and Max was off and on through out the story. Overall good book but if you are expecting an MC story it's not.

I have mixed feelings about this.. On one hand, Hero is never portrayed as a manwhore and he’s sweet on the heroine from the start. On the other hand, I did not get any thrill or fuzzy feelings or excitement from the relationship and build up of the romance. I was more giddy with Motorcycle Man, apparently my gold standard of a biker alpha is Tack and his jerk ways..

Book is safe, no ow/om drama, no ow scenes. Hero is a decent guy battling PTSD. He’s a dick sometimes when his trauma is triggered and that’s mainly the point of conflict coz he lashes out and says hurtful things.

3 Max and Jana Stars

This is the first book in the Reckless Bastards MC series and it was an enjoyable read.
Max is an ex navy SEAL and he has settled in Mayhem , Nevada with his brother , Tate's , MC Club. Tate is in prison and Max knows that his brother has been falsely convicted. When Max was in the SEAL's he was on active service when things went horribly wrong and he lost most of his company. He is emotionally scarred and he has serious PTSD which causes him to have awful nightmares.

Jana is pretty much a hermit and the only person who can get her out is her beautiful best friend, Teddy. The one thing Jana does relish is her art and she is in her element when she is drawing so she attends an art therapy club. Max finds himself there too on the advice of his psychologist and the two of them connect. Jana is withdrawn because she has a significant facial scar and she hates the way people react to her.

The connection between these two is sweet and I loved that they were friends first and they understood each other.

So why 3 Stars? I really think this book would benefit from a re edit. For example, at the start she is Jana Carter but at the end of the book , Max calls her Jana Carson. Also, a few things are mentioned but never resolved for example, Jana feels like someone is watching her but that is never spoken of again. It may be that these things will be explored in other books but it felt like it should have been done in this one.

I don't ever want to shit on someone's piece of work because regardless of what I thought about it, they have got it published and that's a feat in on of its self to me.

Saying that...

This book was bad. It had no depth, the characters sucked, it was eye rolling in the worst way and I'm just happy that's it's over.

This story had such promise in the beginning but then had me asking more questions that were never answered.

Jana feels "a prickle of awareness, of being watched, wash over me. I’d felt that feeling once before and I’d reacted too late to save myself a lifetime of heartache and a world of pain..." and then goes on to say "changed my name so that when he got out, the bastard who did this to me could never find me." Buuuuut...nothing becomes of this.

And the scene where she's in a dress and then Max is eyeing her figure in jeans and a tee. ummm, same scene.

The "I would like to have sex with you tonight." "I would like to have sex with you tonight, too." I can't even express how cheesy that scene is.

The story shows a tiny bit of the actual MC club, but again, it just leaves you asking more questions.

The relationship between the two main characters is what drives this story. All the rest of the background stuff doesn't support the story at all.

Maybe I’m in a slump, but this was a little boring. I felt like him being in a club was irrelevant since nothing actually happened with it. The MC’s scar was a big thing in the blurb, but it was the shortest mention of what happened. Everything just was fluffy and didn’t hold my attention well.

Mixed Feelings

First, this is NOT a MC romance. Yes, Max is part of a club. Yes, we are introduced to some of those members. However, there is no plotline focused around the MC.
Beautifully Broken is more of a tale about two individuals scarred by life. Jana was physically disfigured by her foster father and is insecure. She technically a hermit. The only time she goes out is when Max or her friend forces. Also, to go to art therapy and grocery shopping. Max is an ex-Seal suffering from PTSD and has a brother wrongfully convicted in prison. Together these to find love and happiness, but their journey is far from easy.
My problem is with BB is Jana. She's wonderfully supportive of Max, but won't deal with her issues. She doesn't go out unless she has to, and when she does, she hides her face. She will defend herself against jerks, but she's always beating herself up about her looks. Doing the same thing they do. It's a repetitive thing with her and it bothers me. I'd hoped for more with her character.
I do recommend the book. It's a sweet romance with a little humor.

Ugh

Max is sweet...now. But, he was sleeping around before and admits that all the women he slept with before wanted nothing but the promise of being something more. So, he knew they expected or hoped to become more important, and he used them for sex. 1. That's gross. Sex is intimate and not meant to be casual. 2. He used women knowing they had other expectations, which is horrible. 3. Just because he's a good guy now and to Jana doesn't erase that he was a gross manwhore that was awful to women before her. 4. I expect better from a romance novel. This stuff doesn't belong in romances. Sooooo many authors do this and make horrible manwhore characters and try to pass the book as romantic. It's not romantic or sexy. It's gross.

Haven't read anything by this author before, so have no comparisons. This certainly isn't a mc book - yet?? Other than mentioning his kutte, there's no reference to speak of. This is a love story between two broken people struggling to get by. Max a former navy seal & Jana an accountant who has a gruelling past which has left a scar right down her face. This story just doesn't go anywhere - I'm hoping the next book expands more as this was a bit bland. What happened to the bad tingling sensation Jana got at start of book? Makes reference to get feeling watched again? No expansion on cross, one of her new clients, which seemingly is part of mc? It's all a bit vague and wishy washy.

False Advertisement.

First to associate this book as an MC is just wrong. There was nothing MC about this book whatsoever. That’s a little irritating. Second it was an ok read BUT about a scarred h and a H with PTSD. For the depth of the subject matter it was an extremely light read. Nothing but the couple breaking up the getting back together multiple times. Just overall a disappointment, only made easier to swallow because it was KU.

I read this book as part of an arc program. I loved this story about Max and Jana. Max is a former Navy SEAL and suffers from PTSD. Max is seeing a therapist for help dealing with his issues and his therapist suggests he enroll in an art class. At the art class, Max meets Jana, a shy girl with long blond hair she is hiding behind. When Max tries to talk to her, she is polite but distant. The next day, Max sees Jana in the park and approaches her and asks her to lunch. Jana turns to him and shows him a scar that runs down one side of her face. Max is unaffected by the scar and they go to lunch where they have a great time and get to know each other. When they meet up again, they still have a connection and they become friends which eventually leads to more. Things are going well except Max is still having nightmares and he is scared to get too close to Jana because he is scared of hurting her. Jana wants to be with Max, but she feels he doesn't trust her and feels like they are in half a relationship. Max has to decide how to handle his PTSD and if he can get help. I loved this story about two people who both think they are too damaged to be with anyone else. I loved how Jana wanted to help Max and how she embraced his brother as family too. Jana was a lot stronger than she thought she was and Max saw that. Max was a good guy who needed help but was scared to ask for it. Another good one from KB. Well done.

Although this book is not really centered on a MC it is a beautifully written book about overcoming all odds. It is about putting up so many walls around your heart that you guard that heart to the very end. This is a nice job done with pulling you in and keeping you there the whole time through.

I received this book as an ARC for a freely given and honest review.

This was a good story of two scarred people. They are scarred both physically and mentally. Jana is physical scar cause her to try to keep herself alone and away from people. She has a great best friend who does not allow her to totally isolate herself. Mas is a former seal suffering from PTSD. They meet at an art class and Max is intrigued. Jana is at first cautious. they embark on a romance that has many ups and downs. She has a hard time trusting and he tries to protect her from his issues. They have a lot of back and forth on the way to happiness. I liked the book but was expecting more MC in the writing. There was very little interaction with the club.

A sweet and emotional scarred hero/heroine story that I think is much more a Veteran romance than an MC romance as it doesn't have a lot of the MC tropes like making the heroine an old lady, MC business, etc. (Also, it's spelled cut not "kutte." ) It's still well written and very spicy.

Not at all a Motorcycle romance, 0 action 0 plot. He ducks up a bunch and she takes him back a bunch.

Took a while to read because it couldn’t hold my attention. It was just meh, not great not terrible but definitely meh. I wouldn’t overly say HEA but more of a HFN.

What happens?
Max is a former navy seal, he is suffering from PTSD and joins an art lesson as therapy meeting Jana also using the art lesson as a therapy session.
Jana is guarded and hides herself away ever since her last foster dad hurt her physically and mentally. She agrees to give Max a chance to be in her life wanting to know the beautiful alluring man even if he says he isn't right for her.
Final thoughts
Took a star off because it has very little to do with the MC than I expected. That is fine but not what I necessarily wanted.
The romance between Max and Jana is awesome. I applauded Max for his actions at times and got mad at him for Jana at other parts. Shes strong and I didn't find her a push over or too much of a hard ass shes the right amount of not taking shit but also gives him a damn good chance to prove himself.
Sex scenes are also pretty good in this, just saying.

The couple: Max and Jana

Romance genre: MC
Part of a series: Yes (Reckless Bastards)
Length: 168 pages

Plot: Max is a member of an MC. He is also a veteran and suffers from PTSD. One evening, as part of therapy, he goes to one of those art studios where people gather to all paint the same picture, led by a teacher. There he meets Jana, who frequents these classes. They start a very slow relationship. Jana is reluctant; she's been hurt before, and is very self-conscious about a scar on her face. Max is worried about his PTSD and how that would affect a relationship.

Character development: They eventually come to understand themselves and each other better - they definitely get their HEA. This is a fairly low drama story. The biggest conflicts come from the main characters' scars, in and out. There's not much interaction with the MC, if that's what you're looking for, although there is more as the series progresses.

Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes
Next book in the series: Sinfully Scarred

I think this one is my favourite by this author, I really connected with the story and characters and couldn't put it down. This book deals with PTSD, 2 broken souls finding their way into each others' hearts. Both with scars, mental and physical. Jana's let hers hold her back for so long, Max doesn't see them, he sees her *sigh. I think we all want to be her finding a man like that. This book is more than a romance, so much more and I loved it.

Wouldn't call this an MC book. He belonged to a club that was it. I liked the story line based on the cover intro but it really didn't have a story. 2 broken people happen to meet each other, "fall in love" (not sure what that was based on) and live happily ever after. Pretty basic...

Simply loving someone doesn't fix emotional issues. If it does the issues are still there and they will reappear.

Misleading - Not an MC story at all.
Disappointed to find this was not an MC story. A couple of the members of the MC appeared briefly in the book as merely an introduction I think. Max and Jana were lovely characters but together there was no real excitement, they were like an old married couple from the beginning. It was an okay, quick read but certainly not what I expected, by way of an MC story, when I purchased this book.
