From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes a Horribly Sunny Mystery, The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant.

NOBODY MESSES WITH HIS LIBRARIAN. . .

Who killed Michael Vanderhorst’s maker? It’s a darn good question. But when the trail brings Michael to hellishly sunny Phoenix, Arizona, his biggest problem soon becomes a cute little librarian he can’t seem to stay away from. He’s never met a bigger danger magnet! Even her book cart has it out for her. And is that the drug cartel following her around, too? “Dear God, woman! What have you gotten yourself into?”

Things go from bad to worse when local vampires won’t play nice.

Can this four-hundred-year-old vampire keep his librarian safe and himself out of hot water? Can he bring his maker’s killer to justice? Yesterday, he would’ve said yes. But yesterday, he didn’t have a strange connection with a librarian. Yesterday, people weren’t trying to kill her.

the librarian's vampire assistant mimi jean pamfiloff

The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant is book one in the brand new series, The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant, by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. Where oh where do I start with this book? First, I want to say I LOVED it. It’s so different than anything she has written before. But this shouldn’t be a surprise because every new series by this author is a whole new experience. This first book is not a romance, but there are hints that a romance could develop in future books. That is what I am hoping for anyway. This is a mystery, an adventure, and a whole lot of fun!

D Carmine Signorelli, Italian model

Michael Vanderhorst is a vampire, he has been for hundreds of years. He has come to Phoenix, Arizona to collect the remains of his beloved maker. Michael doesn’t feel love like humans do, but he feels loyalty and respect, both which he feels for his maker. He was patient with Michael during the early years and taught him how to be a good man, to make a difference. His maker’s death was not an accident, and Michael wants to know the status of the investigation. One thing he certainly hadn’t planned on is crossing paths with the frumpy little librarian, Miriam Murphy, who seems like she is a magnet for mishaps. Something about her seems to call to him and he can’t understand why. And why does the local crime family seem to be after her? There seems to be a lot more to this little librarian than meets the eye!

the librarian's vampire assistant mimi jean pamfiloff

Things just seem to go from bad to worse. The vampire that is in charge over this area doesn’t seem to be honest regarding the investigation into his maker’s death. And his little librarian is attacked! What in the world is going on here? Michael always adheres to the rules, it’s how he was taught. But he finds himself breaking one rule after another. Keeping his librarian safe and investigating the murder proves too much for one person. He’s going to need to call in reinforcements.

librarian

Michael has had eight careers over his four hundred years. Who would have ever thought that he would be working as a lowly Librariann’s assistant in this god-forsaken sunny city! He just wants to find his maker’s murderer and go home. But will he really be able to leave his librarian?

library

One word that comes to mind with this book is “cheeky.” It has what I would classify as tongue in cheek humor. I don’t know whether it was a little bit shorter in length or whether I was just turning the pages extra fast because I was enjoying it so much. I loved Michael and I believe he came to a few personal revelations in this book. I loved Miriam as well. She has a lot more spunk than you think in the beginning. I also loved Lula, Michael’s assistant from home. Although I felt kind of bad for her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for what adventure awaits Michael and Miriam in the next book. And fingers crossed that the future holds a little smexy romance for these two! Thanks as always to Mimi Jean for continuing to keep me entertained.

My inner vampire child is jumping up and down screaming with glee.
Mystery! Mystery! Mystery!

Michael is a very old vampire and the new leader of Cincinnati. Four hundred years old and the progeny of the previous ruler of the Cincinnati vampire Covent, one of the oldest in USA. Unfortunately his maker is dead and gone somewhere in Phoenix and Michael will have to get there, retrieve his ashes and find out how he died.

There he will meet timid, cluless, bookworm, accident-prone, cute but not that bombshell librarian. Who is a mystery. And Michael is very attracted to her for no particular reason. He is definitely much older and wiser than the 30 years old Miriam, more good looking, with a younger appearance and moreover he is different species. He cannot feel love, or commitment for a female.

But he needs to be near her -mostly because he realises that someone wants her dead.

So, basically there are many mysteries in this book for Michael:
1. Who killed his maker and why?
2. Who wants to kill Myriam?
3. Who is Myriam?
4. Why he is so attracted to her?

As I realised, this is NOT a romance book. The romance part is underlying and waiting to happen, but it is postponed and stopped. And it waits for its turn to occur.

That's because:

We are strangers with a relationship that is getting stranger.

Myriam obviously is not what she appears to be. Michael in order to be close to her and remain in Phoenix starts working at her library pretending to be a student and initially will hate it -especially when he realises that the children are not scared of him.

There is lots of humour in the book. Myriam treats Michael like a young, poor man. Michael talks and behaves like an ancient.

Overall I enjoyed the book and I was laughing out loud constantly, but I missed some of the tricks the vampires in other books have like mind control.

This is the first book in the series. I expect that Myriam and Michael will be all over each other in the next books and I have the feeling that Myriam is not that innocent.

While I’m here, I have to convince the society that I’ve come to stay—job, home, car. After buying some sneakers—Kill me now—a variety of jeans—Awful!—and those tacky graphic tees—Why are snakes now called danger noodles?—to go under my button-down shirts, it’s time to head to the airport and address the car.

I always know what I'll get with Mimi's books! Great characters, an original story, plot twists I never saw coming! A great start to what I hope will be a long running vampire mystery series!

What is this? Was this supposed to make me laugh? And i wouldn't have invested my money and time in this I had known this wasn't a standalone. Oh but that wasn't all.

I also didn't like his relationship with Lula, who's very possessive of him they hadn't slept together when he met the heroine he told the heroine this woman was girlfriend because the heroine thought he was a creep and wasn't in to him like he's into her.
He kissed a nurse twice after he had bonded/gave blood to the heroine. Second time the heroine saw him kiss this ow and thought she was his girlfriend lula.

The hero also looks like a 20 year old man while the heroine looks a lot older than him. She looks like 29.

This was a bit different from what I have read from this author. It was less romance and more of a mystery with a side of silly.

Miriam was a disaster. She's one of those clumsy people that you are surprised she has been able to live as long as she has and not killed herself in an accident. She's a 29 year old librarian looking for an assistant which will lead into Michael's involvement.

Michael is a very old vampire. He came to the area to confer with the society leader to find out how the investigation is going with the death of Michael's maker. Miriam grabs Michael's attention at the coffee shop when she bumps into a guy with coffee, knocks over a display and manages to smash her head on the counter.

Michael is drawn to Miriam and is very confused by the pull but it does not lead to love just yet. This first book is all about Michael investigating into Clive's death and getting drawn further into Miriam's mess when he finds she has her own troubles.

The lack of romance in this book was a bit disappointing. It's clear Michael is headed in that direction with Meriam but it does not happen in this first book. In fact, she is dating someone and doesn't really see Michael in a romantic way.

I'm curious what will happen in the next book that could change how Miriam feels about Michael. I'm not even sure if he knows what he wants. To be continued...

I don't think it would be possible for me to have enjoyed myself more than I did reading this book. I couldn't it down and breezed through this gem in record time. It was a little Twilight, a little True Blood and a whole lotta Mimi!

Michael Vanderhorst was the eponymous vampire assistant. A centuries old book loving "creature of the night", who oddly enough craved strong coffee and eggplant curry. Michael finds himself in sunny Arizona, of all places, to investigate the death of his maker, and comes face to face with Miriam, the most disaster-prone woman he's ever met, and takes on the role of her assistant to keep his cover, keep her safe, and solve the mystery of what is going on in the local vampire society.

I loved everything about this book. The mystery begging to be solved, the creation of an entire vampire hierarchy complete with myths that were wholly untrue. I loved Michael and his attitude of a gentleman from a bygone era, packaged as a young hottie. But most of all, I loved how the author did not take herself seriously. She had fun with this book and it easily came through in her writing.

Filled with vampire politics, a crazy "sister", career advice and a vicious vampire with a penchant for paranormal romance, this story was one crazy ride. It was without a doubt my most favorite thing that Mimi Jean has written so far, and I enjoyed every snarky second of it.

Welcome to Phoenix, Arizona, the land of sun, more sun and vampires? Four hundred-year-old, baby-faced Michael Vanderhorst is on a mission to pick up his maker’s ashes, who knew he would find himself checking out the cute librarian at the private library? Who knew he would find himself in the middle of a mystery to discover who killed his maker, how and why or that his klutzy librarian was always targeted for murder by the local vamps?

I know, I know, an unlikely location, an unlikely attraction and a mystery that Michael is determined to solve, clearly this has the marking of only one author…Mimi Jean Pamfiloff has unleashed a new book and a new series on the world! THE LIBRARIAN’S VAMPIRE ASSISTANT is here! Sunscreen in hand, attitude just barely in check, Michael is on a mission, which includes story hour at the library for the kiddies and long dead emotions bubbling to the top as he brings his own brand of investigating to the Grand Canyon state. Will he need a library card to continue to check out the little librarian?

Fun, fast and filled with attitude and humor, signature MJP! The world of vampires will never be the same!

I’ve put this under dnf but I barely got started.
I’m 5% in and I’ve an awful feeling the clumsy woman is going to feature highly. If I’m wrong please tell me and I’ll read this otherwise it’s a huge NO from me.
There’s nothing entertaining or funny about someone knocking things over all the time or nearly getting killed crossing a road. Cringy maybe but funny no. Well not to me anyway.

Now why did he have to do that with Lulu??? I lost the little connection I had with the MCs after "that". You may not see a problem with what Lulu and he did when he knows how Lulu feels for him, but I do. Disappointed. If it happened before he shared his blood with the heroine, I would have been more accepting, but after the sharing...not so much.

Also, there was a lot of assumptions made by the hero in this one that after awhile got on my nerves. I usually enjoy the author's stories and writing style, but this one felt different for me. I was unable to connect like I usually do with Mimi's characters. Some parts were funny. I did like the hero's sense of humor, but his "relationship" with Lulu bugged me from the beginning and then they have to go do that?!?!? I love drama, but not drama that involves "that" with OW.

Not for me. You may disagree 100%. Reading is subjective. You may love it.

Just when I think I've read all there is to read in the vampire romance genre, along comes Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. I saw an advert on Twitter and it instantly intrigued me. A vampire who's in love with a librarian and also loves books? Sign me up before I swoon over here.

What I loved most about this book was Michael. He's a very old vampire who not only has a witty persona but sexy as sin. Talk about a book boyfriend. He's the ultimate book boyfriend!

There's plenty of action and suspense for the non-romance lovers, too. The mystery of these rogue vampires kept me flipping the pages to see what would happen next.

The location, is hysterical. I mean, why any vampire choose to live in the hottest state in the country, Arizona, is mind-boggling.

Highly recommend!

i knew that The Librarian's Vampire Assistant would be entirely different from any of the previous books that Mimi Jean Pamfiloff has previously released, mostly because it wasn't linked to any of her series and was meant as an in between two books.

Sadly, it wasn't my favorite book from hers - if i didn't know that was a standalone book, i would be wondering whether or not i missed a previous instalment since it felt as though there was missing history. It felt a little bit everywhere - going from one place to another while introducing so many characters that i struggled to keep up.

Even with my misgivings, i couldn't get enough of Lula - the 'young' vampire (although not that young), is incredibly feisty, sassy and so very sarcastic that she made me laugh more than once even with her many hang ups. When it comes to Merriam, this woman is a klutz with lots of bad luck - she was and often is at the wrong place, at the wrong time so i'm so very happy to know that Michael took it upon himself to keep her safe.

Even not amongst my favorites from this author, this book was still interesting and i honestly look forward to Mimi Jean Pamfiloff's next release.

I'm not exactly sure why this is marked as romance cause there honestly wasn't any and the author even says in the afterword that it's going to be a mystery that could potentially turn into a romance.

Michael is a centuries old vampire who lives in Cincinnati but has flown to Phoenix because he received news his maker died. Cities are made up of vampire societies who essentially operate to help their vampire community but also to make sure humans don't figure out that vampires exist. Michael has a run in with one such human who is incredibly clumsy but intrigues him none the less. Miriam operates a library in town and when Michael appears there one day and saves her from falling off a ladder she offers him a job as her assistant. He turns her down at first but when he saves her from the brink of death and finds out there's more to Clive's death than meets the eye, he ends up uprooting his entire life to use librarian assistant as a cover to investigate the truth.

I really enjoyed Michael's commentary. He was such an intriguing vampire. Humans bore him and he low key hates being a vampire. He was turned against his will and it's made him pretty bitter. He's also a bit clueless about his own vampirism which becomes evident when he's strangely drawn to Miriam even though she's a pretty dopey human. I also loved his relentlessness in finding answers. He had this honesty complex that people either loved or hated.

The entire story is from his POV and there seemed to be a lot of fade to black moments which, in this case, left me feeling like I was missing out. For example he would have a grand spy entrance in a scene that would start to get your adrenaline pumping and then before you even blink it's over and we got no details about the actual action. I also feel slighted cause I thought I was going to get a vampire romance and instead I got a vampire who likes reading vampire romances (go figure). There was one moment with Lula but it was completely one sided and since you get it from Michael's POV it was just cringe to read because he makes it clear that he doesn't do lust or love.

I'm not sure I'll continue the series. It was well written and a refreshing vampire take but it wasn't what I hoped for overall. If you like those cozy mystery type of books then you'll love this.

Wow, just so wow. This is not your typical vampire story, what you get is a fun, quirky and thrilling twist on a classic vampire loving a human romantic journey. It is filled with passion, witty banter, danger and emotional chills that will leave you craving more...

Michael Vanderhorst is sexy, charming, passionate and a four-hundred-year-old vampire looking for his makers killer. When he stumbles upon a sexy little librarian that just can't keep from stumbling into trouble and he can't stop saving. Could not put this down once I started reading it and lost a full nights sleep but it was so worth it. (talk about book hangover)

I got The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant Book I by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff on a free day. It led me down a biting good path of laughs, love and vampires. I started with a smile and a chuckle. That’s a good sign and something Mimi Jean Pamfiloff does with ease. Michael Vanderhorst wasn’t looking for work, but he couldn’t resist her. Now, he’s a library assistant. Even though he saw Miriam coming, he never could have anticipated the affect she would have on his life. Hilarious, suspenseful, mouth wateringly, delightfully addictive.

I love this author. I have a few of her titles on my favorites list. But... The first half of this book was mediocre and then it got better and I finally had a laugh out loud moment towards then end. The book is definitely an easy read and you will be finished with before you know it.
It's not one of my favorites but I will buy the next in the series just so I can know how things progress.

I was intrigued by the premise but didn't have too high hopes on this big I was so happily surprised by this. I really liked the too clumpy to survive librarian and the confused 400 year old vampire that couldn't understand why he was so drawn to her. It was a good mix of light-heartedness and mystery to solve. A cozy mystery with a vampire!

Sorting through and organizing our quarantine materials one evening, one of my coworkers pulled this gem out of the bins... and obviously, we had to read it.

This was definitely better that I was expecting it to be... It was hilarious. Several laugh out loud moments. Working in library services may have had something to do with this. It has a really refreshing tone and conversational style with the reader (author def isnt taking this TOO seriously). But not to the detriment of the book. The plot isnt exactly great, but still hilarious. And the vampire known as "Nice" killed me. Probably a 3.5ish/5.

Caffeinated Aspects

A  coffee drinking four-hundred-year-old vampire who dresses in suits and barely looks legal arrives in Phoenix Arizona to retrieve his maker's ashes.  He also wants to know how and why his maker was murdered. While getting a latte, he watches a young woman nearly knock herself out at the counter, knock over a stack of lids and play frogger crossing the street. It turns out she is a librarian, and when he ducks in to get out of the sun she thinks he is applying for the assistant library position. He applies for the fun of it, having no intentions of accepting because he is intrigued by this clumsy, sweet librarian.
We are treated to two mysteries that weave themselves together. The first is who killed Michael Vanderhorst’s maker and the second is who attacked the librarian and why. I thought the author did an excellent job of pulling these threads together.
The vampires in this world while hidden from society actual eat, drink coffee and don't turn to ash in direct sunlight.
We gain some insight into the hierarchy of the vampire world.
We get some humor thanks to banter between Michael and his saucy assistant.
The murder mystery's how and whys had an exciting twist.
Weird things happen at airport car rental agencies.

Decaffeinated Aspects

Michael is four-hundred years old and looks wet behind the ears. When one has lived as long as Michael, you expect a certain amount of wisdom. While his mannerisms and speech reflected this, as did his knowledge on subjects he often acted like a typical twenty-one-year-old.
I loved his snarky assistant but a scene at his studio apartment left me disappointed in her. She deserved better, and I expected more from her.
There is an infatuation of sorts that develops, and it has Michael making huge decisions. Unfortunately, I didn't feel it.
I would have liked more involvement in the investigations.

I was looking for the next book to read off my Kindle freebie stack, saw that this was set in Phoenix (Arizona), and since I'm here right now, that justifies me reading it.

The book isn't a romance but there is the possibility of a romance to evolve in the following books. The author even admitted that she doesn't know if the series going to become a romance. I liked the humor and thought it was cute, but I'm not sure if I want to continue reading since I'm not sure if there's going to be any romance and I hear thathe next book ends in a cliffhanger...

It was funny how Michael was saying how Nice was the scariest vampire, when Nice seemed to think that about him!

Michael Vanderhorst has gone to Arizona for one thing only and that’s to pick up the remains of his maker who was murdered. Little did he know that he’d get himself involved in a mystery himself. Not only did someone kill Clive and it looks as the local coven is trying to cover it but he also finds that someone is out to kill the sweet Liberian that is a walking disaster. A distaste that he can’t seem to stop thinking about. Are the two connected and why now after 400 years does he finally find himself having feelings for someone?

This is the first book in a new mystery series. While I had a feeling where the story was going it didn’t go as I had thought it would. Mimi Jean is an incredible writer and her characters are always interesting and funny but at the same time she’s also and evil cow! Why Mimi Jean must you always torment us with amazing stories and then leave us hanging with cliffhangers? I agree with what Mr. Nice said by the way. For those that of you that have no idea what that means, you only need to read the book and you’ll know.

I was given an ARC from Mimi Jean in return for an honest review.

ARC REVIEW

Mimi has done it again she has taken one genre of books and twisted it in such a way she has made it her own. This cozy vampire mystery is very different from what she has written before but is still very classic Mimi with all the surprise twists, turns, foul language, sassy women, and brooding men.

Michael would have preferred to be anywhere but sunny Phoenix, Arizona but his best friend/brother/father figure/maker was killed and he's there to pick up what's left of him not only that but he's not satisfied as to how long the investigation is taking so with the help of his plucky smartass assistant, Lula, he aims to find out. Now if he could only stop getting distracted by a certain librarian he could get down to the bottom of it, or not. Michael is an absolute book snob and coffee fiend with a hilarious narrative. Lula his lowly assistant is such a typical Mimi character she reminds me of Cimil except not quite batshit crazy or evil.

I love that this is in Michael narrative (first person POV). Usually with cozy mystery or vampire books it all in the woman's POV as she learns about vampires and tries to solve whatever the mystery is. But in this Michael, the vampire, is trying to solve the mystery and that just happens to be the plain ordinary human librarian as well as finding who killed his maker. This is a complete story no cliffhanger but she does leave it open for another book, hopefully more than that.

I want to like it, but once again I'm just not a fan of this style of 'keystone cop' madcap story. The H is much older than he looks, he's very sarcastic and I got tired of his constant snark, plus he sort of cheated on the h, even though there weren't 'together'. Just crossed the romance line. The h is an odd ball, messy and she actually seemed not quite clean. She was also stubborn, not changing her mind even if it kills her, so that was another frustration. Not a fan.
