On Jane’s way to a Lake Tahoe house party an airline snafu tosses her into the orbit of beautiful climbing instructor, Bree Voss. Jane can’t believe it when the younger woman with the sparkling blue eyes begins to flirt with her… and is even more surprised when she finds herself flirting right back. Never before has Jane considered being with another woman, but a night of unparalleled passion brings her to question everything. Is Jane gay? Is love at first sight even possible? What will she tell her daughter and how will she avoid the Cadillac King of Southern California, the man everyone is trying to set her up with? Sweet Jane is a story of one woman’s awakening and the love she finds when she refuses to go back to sleep.
After reading - and loving - Claiming Camille, I searched on Louise McBain to see what else she had written. This is her first book, available on Kindle Unlimited, and it's the prequel to Claiming Camille. You absolutely don't have to read this one first, but it does give insight into not only these two MCs, but also the MCs from Camille. This story feels like it could be autobiographical, although I don't know that. It's a sweet, solid romance that shouldn't be missed.
This book was definitely a lil horny. I think I’m a sucker for a good lust at first sight story because it appeals to my impulsive AF nature. This was a fairly short one perfect for a steamy lil read before bed.
This was a story of awakening for Jane who meets Bree on a trip to Lake Tahoe. They have an immediate, almost surreal chemistry and Jane has her first lesbian experience in a Reno hotel room. The story details their relationship in Tahoe and then back home in the suburbs of Virginia. The secondary characters of Jane's daughter, Zoe, her mother, Ruth, and Bree's friend and business partner, Hannah, were highly entertaining. Jane's dog, Kip, is also instrumental in the story. This book made me laugh, cry, and everything in between. Great first book by Louise McBain.
A novella? Pretty close if not; had the attributes of a shortened tale - the quick ending, the unfinished business, no follow through. All told by Jane which meant we never got to hear Bree's story - and a WTF moment nearly sunk it all. Shame - had real promise and some excellent characters.
The moment Jane and Bree meet the sparks begin. Jane is a first grade teacher and has a grown daughter. Bree owns a gym for kids with her best friend Hannah. They are all on a flight bound for Reno for a week vacation when Bree is immediately smitten with Jane. They are spending a week with friends on the opposite sides of the lake. Meanwhile, the friend's Jane is spending the week with have invited a gentleman friend. They have set up Jane and Stephen without their knowledge. Bree happens to see Jane's interactions with Stephen, find out she has a grown daughter and that she is the first women she has ever been with. Bree's ex left her for a man and this is a very sensitive area for her. She feels lied to and deceived. She breaks things off with Jane. Is there any way that Jane can convince Bree of her love and get her back?
Yes, this book is full of romance and heat. And what I loved even more was that the author captures the strong bonds between families and friends, and paints real characters who you feel like you’ve met—the warm loud friend, the annoying but insecure diva, and the authentic, funny, strong and always-growing women who we want to be friends with. Can’t wait for the next book!
Love, love, love this book! It's sweet and sexy and funny. The family dynamic is warm and loving with a dash of spicy. I haven't read this author before but I will definitely be looking forward to reading more of her work!
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. The book is about finding that one person that makes you realize who you are. It is a rather short book, it is very well written. My only complain is I would have liked an epilogue or a glimpse of their future.
Jane is a schoolteacher going on a weekend away to meet up with her daughter’s boyfriend and his family. On the first leg of the flight she meets Bree, and there is an instant connection between them. The flight has problems, and during the resulting forced layover Bree and Jane get much closer. This is a lovely story, well written with an exceptional cast of characters. The trio of Jane, her daughter Zoe and her mother Ruth are inspirational - a family dynamic that really feels special. The connection between Jane and Bree is so strong, so soon, that there must be more than just sexual attraction, and towards the end of the story is a twist that blows this connection out of the water. Somehow Louise McBain manages to keep Jane as a sweet, warm character, all the way through this story. This shows how good she is at characterisation. We don’t know nearly so much about Bree, but she also comes across as a warm, honest person. The only person that is an empty shadow is Hannah, Bree’s best friend, who we know next to nothing about. This is the story of the two women meeting, but such a shame we don’t get to see more of their life later on, even a typical ‘one year later’ type of epilogue…
