Valegro – Going for Gold – is the fifth book in the Blueberry stories, written by one of the most admired and respected dressage riders and trainers in the world, Carl Hester. Anyone who has ever wondered about the life of a top-class dressage horse will enjoy these stories, with exclusive extras containing Carl's take on his horses, training and competitions, questions to add another dimension to the reading experience, and wonderful illustrations.
With six books to collect, The Blueberry Stories will become a must-read for any young – and not so young – dressage and horse enthusiast, as well as everyone who delights in tales of friendship, overcoming confidence issues and the turmoil of the changing world around them, ambition and triumph.
Valegro continues his journey towards the Olympics in “Valegro: Going for Gold!” by Carl Hester. In the last book, we left Valegro finishing up his international competition and realizing that he would be attempting to compete in the Olympics. Now, he’s finally there. It starts with Valegro debuting his new freestyle pattern at a smaller show. From there, the reader travels with him to the Olympics, experiencing the big event through his eyes. Valegro also learns about other equestrian sports here, like show jumping. Charlotte and Valegro face a lot of obstacles, but they work together to overcome them for his shot at Olympic gold. This was a fun installment in the series, seeing the London Olympics through Valegro’s viewpoint. Another piece that I really liked was how Valegro handled losing his friend Orange to a different life. While it is normal for horses to be bought and sold, moving from one barn to another, Hester handled the emotional process really nicely to help kids who are reading the book. If you’ve read the others, this is definitely a great addition to the series!
