Wow- this book me forever to finish.
It was a fan fiction piece and was just ok in my opinion. Lots of work had gone into it- it’s incredibly long. And I thought it was pretty good at points.
Quite a lot of tears throughout and some sappy characters so it lost my interest at times- hence the long period of reading it.
But it was alright. Now on to something new xxxx

okay wait i gave it a 5 star because it meant the world to me back in 2017 and i bought a subscription to the patreon for like 3 years to read the sequels. maia has some amazing song recommendations and even wrote/sang her own songs (!!!!!) for this series and it rly added to the feels and overall atmosphere. the world building and plotline and characters are developed REALLY well ...... they're not that complex as people but i feel very close and attached to each of them . i really enjoyed all the books and fics she wrote in the past and will definitely be the first to buy tsts series when it comes out in bookstores!!!!

HELLO I AM NOT DEAD!
I am indeed back with another book review... and it's a fanfiction. I love it when readers put fanfictions in here, it shows how powerful they are as works of fiction.
As you may have noticed... 2018 has been a busy year indeed. I have not had much (if any) time to read. I'm a little disappointed in myself to be honest, I've started loosing my passion for reading. But it's only because I've been so busy and tired! At times like this, falling back to fanfiction is easy. They're stories surrounding characters I know and love very much, and would love to see more of them outside of tv shows/real life.
I know fanfiction tends to be disregarded as a work of fiction, I thought of it as silly and absurd almost two years ago now. Of course I've read terrible fics as well as some that deserve to be known, such as the songbird and the sea. It's only happened once or twice before where a fanfic has left me speechless. Whether it be because its written and thought out so wonderfully or the way they capture so honestly the characters.
Look, the girl who wrote this has so much potential in creating stories. She narrates so beautifully, and even though the source of inspiration for this fics (and her other works as well) are the bangtan boys, which some might find ridiculous, the way she characterizes each and every one of the members so honestly and realistically is mesmerizing.
Yes, this is a Yoonmin pirate fic. It's the most popular one in AO3, I was hesitant to read it at first only because I don't read a lot of AU's. But I was willing to try something new. AND BOY WAS I REWARDED WITH AN AMAZING GIFT.
This fic is everything. It should be considered to be a book, I know the author is planning on writing more sequels (WHICH WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING) and if they get published I'd gladly buy them. She has talent, REAL TALENT. I can't even begin to describe how amazing it was to read this. Really.
Anyways, this is the update on my reading life. I hope to get back to books in 2019. I think first year of university is the hardest, and I hope I find a way to manage my time to read more than just fics. But I'm completely fine with just readings fics xd

I'm not even in this fandom and I loved this.
Objective coolness of the guys of BTS aside, Songbird is an awesome story. It's got a creative magic system, plenty of intriguing moral ambiguity, and incredible character development. Some chapters effuse an undeniable charm while others rendered me an emotional mess. The characters are irresistible; I fell for them all at one point or another.
And I mean, it's gay pirates. What's not to like?

3.5/5 - I will start with what I really enjoyed about this: the Blessings/Runes/magic was very cool. I want to know more about them! Also, the pirate fight scenes were very well done. Who doesn't like a good pirate fight scene!? The pirates themselves were cool as well, if not a little soft for pirates for my liking.

Siento que esto no cumplió con las expectativas que tenía :l
La trama en sí es bastante interesante pero siento que no se llevó muy bien, porque como que la historia no se decidía entre ser character driven o plot driven o.o no sentí que hubiera un buen balance.
Aparte de que no amé a los personajes, osea si me caen bien y los fui queriendo conforme los fui leyendo, pero no se porque simplemente no se ganaron mi corazón.
Y hablando del romance...creo que el slow born no es para mi :l o bueno o.o no se si el problema fue que la relación de los protas fue básicamente: pequeñas muestras de interés mutuo (que bien tenían con otros personajes - _-) beso, y felices para siempre; no la sentí para nada natural y por eso no me encantó :l
Pero bueno, dentro de todo estuvo bien, pero no me interesaría mucho leer las secuelas a menos que vea opiniones diciendo que mejora; pero no creo porque siento que esta primera parte está super sobrevalorada, así que ya no confío tanto en la opinión del fandom :/

Wow wow I don't even have sufficient words for this one! This was such a great read. I enjoyed every part of it and don't care if I'm exaggerating (I'm not, it's just that good.)
Uhhh I LOVE BTS. BUT apart from the fiction being inspired by them, the book was amazingly characterized, phrased and visualized.
I just know I'm never gonna forget this.

i rarely ever read fanfics but this was a piece of ART. a MASTERPIECE. this was a whole world that lived up to its potential. i cant get tired of this, ever. the music, the descriptions, the details, the characters. oh it was absolutely perfect. id give it a 100 stars it i could. the author needs to write books, im so serious.

I won't lie when I say that a book changed my life, and this book really did make me love things I never thought I would. Okay, so the fanfiction element got me interested of course but even now when I am definitely not a hardcore army at all I still come back to this book. I think the best part in my opinion were the suggested songs. They really just brought the book to life in my opinion. And the best part? every time I listen to songs that are similar in genre or mood then I'm instantly transported to a beautiful adventure fantasy world. I get this feeling in my heart and head and I just feel so excited and happy. It's an instant mood lifter and even gets my creative juices flowing.
This book was beautifully written and I hope that it can even one day be published, hopefully with name changes and more character development to make up for the unknown characters, but I want a broader audience to potentially experience the excitement and happiness that this simple chapter book has brought me.

This is a brilliantly written fic with an interesting plot line. And while I wasn’t mind blown at any point in time, I was definitely intrigued.
The characterisation, however, was poor.
Was the story interesting enough for me to power through 800 pages? Yes

this is probably one of my favourite fics Ever, like. i will never ever get bored of reading this. everything about this work is amazing— from the character development to the setting to the plot. absolutely everything is enough to get you hooked.

This is just so unbelievably good it's ridiculous. I wasn't very sure about this one, but booooiiii was I wrong. This is gold. The plot, the theme, the drama, every single fucking thing is glorious. The characters are the best out of everything. Honestly, go read it. You NEED to read it, like, yesterday. And now I don't know what to do with my life, like, what do I read next after THAT?!

I've always had my doubts towards fanfiction in general. You clearly proved me wrong. The world building is amazing, I could easily compare this book to another published fantasy book and I'd say your world is much more complex than most fantasy books I've read back in middle school. YOU'VE WON MY HEART. TAKE IT.
I heard the sequels are already up on Patreon, I'll see it when the last book is finished. You are such a great writer, the playlists were great companions to read along. I totally can picture this whole book like a movie in my mind.

The story is incredible, I love his characters and stories.
So grateful this is the first ever book I finish in English is really incredible for me. Before that the best I can do, it's just read 25 pages in a few weeks in an easy story with simple word. For a little over a week, I can't coax myself to let go the book.
I learn so many new words.
I recommend 100 times, Songbird and The Sea, it's definitely one of my favorite books, and I'm so glad the journey continues on Patreon with more adventure thank you so much author!

This was an amazing book, and I would recommend this book to my friends and family if it weren’t for (if you’ve read the book you should know what I mean). I love this book so passionately I wish I could get a hard copy of it. Once I got to chapter 10 I was stuck and finished it that night. I will always remember this book and it will probably stay as one of my favorites. The scenes were clearly shown through descriptions. It was an emotional roller coaster and I cried more than a few times. 😅 Thank you, and 안녕.

I stayed up a full 24 hours and read all 1200 pages in one sitting!!!
plot 10/10 - engaging and fun, pure adventure
writing 10/10 - like watching a movie in my head, the author is brilliant
slow burn enemies to lovers 10/10 - delicious (they touch for the first time 600 pages in, its super slow burn... they kiss on page 800 lol)

So beautifully written, I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. She created a whole new world out of nowhere and it felt like each character had a life of their own and a story that needed to be told.
Interesting and adventurous, leaves you hanging from the author's very word.

Loved it! Love the story, love the author, I love everything about it! Seriously, this should be published, it’s not only my favorite fanfic hands down, it’s also one of my favorite story EVER. This author, even if she never published, is at the same level of amazing than sarah J maas and rainbow rowell to me!

I literally run out of words as soon as I finished this book. It leaves me speechless and I think my brain stops functioning right I read the last chapter of this book. I can't stop reading it and I finished it in 2 days. The whole book got me overwhelming. The stories are fresh, it got me a One-Piece (anime) vibe, but I love it so much. Definitely 5 out of 5.

Read it years ago but it was one of the best ao3 fics I read. It was a whole new world for me on exploring pirates, battleships, curses and magic - and I was so open and accepting of everything here. I love the author's imagination and writing style, made me go along with the tides of the story. I hope to read more from MissterMaia!
