Now, five years later, a chance remark at a dinner party with old friends from her university days makes Laura remember Martin and wonder if they can give love a second chance. Will things work out this time around?

This is a poignant yet also humorous story set in an English university in the 1980s. The central character is a girl with a lot of hang ups, too idealistic to realise that she always falls for the wrong man. Her inability to kick her unworthy boyfriend/fiance into touch makes her come across as a somewhat pathetic character; but this probably says a lot about the number of women who do stay in relationships long past their sell-by date. Her female friends are strong, feisty characters who give her the right sort of advice; and some of the male characters are undoubtedly unpleasant but ring true to life.

You have to read the book to see if Laura gets her happy ending and whether or not the 'bad boys' get their comeuppance.
