This series gets better with each book! Arsonist and Lace is the 19th book in Hope Callaghan’s Garden Girls Cozy Mystery Series and is a great addition to this outstanding series. Once I started reading this book, I didn’t want to put it down, and was sorry when I read the words ‘the end.’ As always, Ms. Callaghan has written a well thought out and interesting mystery, with a good story line and excellent character development. The writing style flows smoothly at a steady pace. The mystery is well plotted and there are enough suspects, and twists and turns to hold the reader’s interest. Ms. Callaghan's books are clean reads and share a strong message of love, friendship, compassion, and caring. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a well-crafted cozy mystery.
Gloria Rutherford-Kennedy’s son, Ben, his wife, Kelly, and their twins, Ariel and Ollie, are moving to Belhaven, Michigan and she’s looking forward to having them close. Their home in Houston was severely damaged by a recent hurricane that hit the Houston, Texas area and they have been battling with their insurer to approve their claim to no avail. Gloria and Paul have been talking about renting out his farmhouse, but it’s still vacant, so they’ve offered to let Ben and his family live there until they can get back on their feet. Michigan is bracing for another snowstorm and Gloria is worried about Ben and his family being on the road trying to get home. Lucy, one of Gloria’s friends, stops by and asks if she’d like to go into town with her and they decide to see if some of the Garden Girls want to meet them at Dot’s Restaurant. A firetruck passes them with sirens wailing and lights flashing and Lucy and Gloria are concerned that there might be another suspicious fire. When they arrive in town, they see firetrucks at the Quik-Stop and smoke pouring out of the second story. When a fourth suspicious fire occurs and someone is injured, Gloria and her friends decide to do a little unofficial investigating.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Hope Callaghan's descriptive writing and attention to details makes the mystery with its small town Michigan setting, an antagonistic character Sally, a junkyard owner, and the Garden Girls sleuthing come alive. The Garden Girls impromptu meals makes the reader hungry; recipes are included. The plot takes some very unexpected twists and turns. The story's sequencing is believable and the resolution was a surprise. Hope Callaghan artistically weaves current topics of homelessness, recycling, doomsday prepping, alternative power into this page turning mystery, so the story can be read as a stand alone.
Gloria and her friends are trying to find out who has been setting random fires around town after Pastor Nate was stabbed and the church set on fire. Hope Callaghan weaves her story with compassion and suspense keeping your attention to see what will happen next. Her main characters are very good friends who love to go sleuthing. If you like mysteries, you will enjoy this book. I look forward to the next Garden Girls book. Happy reading!
In this latest Garden Girls mystery, a firefighter is on the loose. Suspicious fires have been breaking out in the area, and our girls have gotten into the thick of the investigation. Sally is up to her usual complaining and irritating ways, but is she the one behind the fires? She has a new boyfriend, another "Joe", but is she just trying to make Officer Joe jealous?
This mystery is an enjoyable story well told. There are good red herrings, or in plain language people who appeared likely to be responsible for the crimes but who did not have anything to do with the crimes or who were not the main characters involved or who were involved in a different way than it appeared. In this case all three happened in the book. But it all makes sense at the end of the book.
There seems to be an arsonist in Belhaven Michigan . Fires have been started in empty places. When Pastor Nate was attacked Gloria Kennedy and the Garden Girls start to investigate. Sally who worked for the Quick Stop store acts crazy picketing in front of Brian's hardware store. Then there is a homeless couple that has disappeared that they are looking for. Lots of things going on to keep you reading!
It was great to read about the garden girls again! I developed a relationship with them while reading the series. I enjoy the way Hope writes. The mystery evolved slowly and I could not figure out the ending. It was so good I stayed up reading! I love all the gals I really appreciated the opening explaining who the characters were. It had been so long since I had read the other books!!
As Gloria and Lucy are headed in to town when a fire truck passes them. There's smoke coming from the second floor of the Quick-Stop where the fire department has put a fire out. Sally says she quits because of the fire, Brian lets her. This is the third fire. Police tell Brian the fire at the store was arson. The girls have to try to figure out who is starting the fires and why. Good story with Ruth and her new toys.
Gloria and the Garden club girls get the job done.
With all the fires being discovered in town and surournding neighborhoods, can the Garden club girls discover who is starting the fires and stop them before someone gets hurt or worse is killed. Who attacked the Pastor ? Will Sally come to her senses? Must read to find out. Truly an adventure.
Who has been setting fires in the Belhaven business district (such as it is)? Who are the homeless couple and where are they? Who attacked the pastor and set fire to the church? You'll have to read the book to find out, because I'm certainly not going to tell you!
The girls are puzzled by the strange behavior of Sally. The woman seems unstable and she blames everyone else for her troubles. There seems to be an arsonist on the loose. There have been several unexplained fires, even the church was set on fire and the pastor attacked. Join Gloria and friends as they try to solve the mystery.
There are small fires breaking out in Belhaven and Gloria and the gardenloop club are investigating before someone gets hurt. Gloria's son in Houston lost his house to flooding so are moving into Paul's house. Sally Keene quit the mart and Brian hired Margaret to help out and Sally freaked out. Wonderful story with wholesome values
Gloria and the Garden Girls are at it again, racing to solve the latest mystery. I loved the story line, the quirky characters amidst setting of Bellhaven. This book is recommended for Christian cozy mystery readers.

Gloria, Ruth, Lucy and all the rest are up to their crazy antics and end up in the middle of things once again. The characters are very believable and I’m looking forward to their next adventures!
Hope comes through again! I love her style of writing. Her characters are always so fun, but so down to earth. Although each book can stand alone, as a series you always want more, and always can not wait for the next episode.
This novel is a fast read. There are several plot twists. The novel is clean and Christian. I do recommend this murder mystery where the murders have nothing to do with the plot development.
This series is definitely the best series I’ve ever read. I enjoy trying to figure out what the girls are doing next. They make me want to be more like them.
While I love all the garden girls novels, this one felt a little light on in plot. Endearing characters and lots of laughs, I’d still definitely recommend it!
The Garden girls are on the hunt for an arsonist. A new friend is made, a crazy gal and two Joes as boyfriends, add it all together for some laughs and a great mystery.
