The Del: Kate Morgan's Story

Rate this book
A tale of steamy romance, elegant settings, and rich historical detail.

IN THE EARLY morning hours of November 29, 1892, a woman's body was discovered lying on the blood-drenched steps outside the famous Hotel del Coronado. To this day no one knows the truth of who she was, why she was there, what made her take her life or if it was taken from her. And most of all—what keeps her haunting the hotel over a century later.

For travel writer Grace Hannan, the historic Hotel del Coronado is just another resort to review. But when a ghost enlists her assistant in unraveling the mystery of why she died, her experience becomes anything but ordinary. Drawing on courage she isn't aware she has, Grace joins the spirit of Kate Morgan in a riveting adventure that takes them back to the male-dominated Victorian era, where they witness a shocking life neither expected.

Inspired by true events.

This is a fun little book, and I enjoy the Del and Coronado so much... I LOVE this book in how she puts it all together. What a fun movie this would be!

I received a digital Kindle copy of "The Del" through a Goodreads Giveaway in exchange for an honest review. It's the first of three books I believe, that follow the memories of 3 ghosts whose spirits are forever tied to The Hotel Del Coronado. This book primarily focuses on Kate Morgan a real ghost that is believed to haunt the hotel to this day. It does dishearten me to see that I am the first to review this book and it not be a positive review. I'm sorry to say but "The Del" was a HOT mess. This book needed to be drastically simplified. To say there was a lot going on was an understatement. I honestly believe this would have been a very creative concept if it wasn't for all the chaos. Kate Morgan's story is a very intriguing one that I felt got very much overshadowed by EVERYTHING else. The tag line alone "Three woman came to Hotel Del Coronado in November 1892-only two left alive" and we ultimately have to solve the mystery, is fabulous it's what made me want to read this. "The Del" felt like it missed the editing process and every thought or idea the author had during the brainstorming was thrown in and left in. Even though the book ends with a cliffhanger, I can't imagine I will continue this series, my anxious brain cant handle it. I do thank the author for the free copy and hope other people enjoy this though, it was just way over the top for me that I couldn't take the story seriously. Beautiful cover though.

I enjoyed this author's debut novel, Red Reins and have been looking forward to reading more from her. The Del was well worth the wait! It turned out to be a crazy fun, fast-paced story that sucked me in and kept me guessing all the way to a surprising twist at the end. I'm hooked and can't wait for the next book in the series!!

I really enjoyed this book up until the end, when it didn't end, but just stopped with a cliffhanger! And a note that book 2 is coming summer 2018. I'm a few months late with this review so maybe book 2 is out already! I have never been to the Hotel Coronado, but I have been to Coronado Island and seen the hotel, likely shared the beach with hotel guests. There was a lot of mystery and time travel, things I enjoying reading. But the cliffhanger ending really soured me. I wanted a true ending.

This is not my usual cup of tea, but I like historical fiction and I enjoyed the author's first book. It's an interesting mix of contemporary fiction and romance, historical fiction and fantasy. I would have liked an author's note describing the research that went into the descriptions of real places and real people. It was interesting enough that I will probably read the second book in the series.

A real page-turner, unlike anything I’ve read before. This otherworldly book was a entertaining and creative combination of contemporary and historical fiction… with lots of unexpected spice! 🌶🌶🌶 It was especially fun to read since I’m from San Diego and have been to the Del many times.

It’s not a standalone book, so I’m left dying to know what happens next. Ordering book 2 now!

What a waste of topic! I can’t believe this is book one of three. Ridiculously bad writing. Save your money.

will not be continuing the series lol. could go into detail why but instead I’ll just leave the quote “I’ve just been waiting for the right girl to grow into a woman” here and be done with it.
