Welcome to the Magical Death Match.

For five long years, I’ve wanted just one thing—to find my sister Rowan. Her disappearance tore a hole in my life.

Now I’ve found her—but she’s a captive of the same Rebel Gods who hunt me. They’ve enchanted her to follow their every whim, which will make rescuing her nearly impossible. But I’ll do anything it takes, including infiltrating an ancient Celtic war camp. I’ll even join the death fights in their arena.

To succeed, I'll need to learn to use my new magic. Thankfully, I have the sexy Celtic war god Cade on my side, along with my friends at the Undercover Protectorate. Thank fates for that, because I'm going to need all the help I can get if I want to survive.

Attack by Magic is a fast-paced urban fantasy adventure with a kick-butt heroine, a tough hero, and magic that will blow your socks off.

description

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

Well yet again this author delivers a mile a minute story that leaves the reader experiencing whiplash ! The words fast paced are unfortunately used so often but when it comes to this book are completely deserved. Bree is hot on the trail of the God who has her sister Rowan prisoner but going up alone against a God isn't the smartest thing to do so it's lucky that Cade is on her side . You would imagine that with Brees newly awakened abilities anything is possible but stepping through a portal and getting caught up in magical gladiator style games means if it's discovered just how powerful Bree and Cade are there's no way to get close enough to snatch Rowan back. Plus there's still the tricky problem of somehow releasing Rowan from the enchantment that she's under!
I love the way the author takes ancient facts and legends and mixes it all up to bring a story that blazes a trail through history. This time not only do we get Cade, Celtic War God but he's matched by Cocidus another character straight out of legends . All this is backed up by a little trip in time to a realm that mirrors ancient Britain. Still if her characters were not so vibrant and interesting this would be a short story but luckily Bree is one tough cookie who just keeps plugging away. Does she catch up with her sister? More importantly to this reader is Cade ready to make a move? Alas there's still more to come from the Rebel Gods but Bree just keeps listening to the Dragon Gods and luckily they have a thing or two to share with her ! This was a wonderful addition to the series and I can't wait to find out how the author tops it.
This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Attack by Magic is the fourth book in the Valkyrie series by Linsey Hall. This time we're following a rescue mission where Bree, Cade and the team are trying to rescue Rowan who under the charm is being held captive by the Rebel Gods. Bree's powers are finally under control and we're finding more and more about this interesting heroine.

I don't have a lot to say. I am just surprised that author is able to put out more and more and every time it seems to be even more interesting but I have noticed a pattern in adventures of our characters. First there is always a 'small' mission where Bree and Cade go to the realm, other country etc. and they research how to best get rid off the enemy and then a battle at the end when the whole team from Procreate is taking care of the issue. I'm hoping for a surprise in the last book as well as a progress between our characters. They've gone through so much together and still I feel like the 'romance' between them is a bit forced. Maybe except the below fragment...

''One day, though. One day I’d climb him like a tree.''

Overall I'm grabbing the last book straight away and reading like crazy- will I have my happy end?

This is the fourth book in the Dragon's Gift: The Valkyrie series. Ms. Hall amazes me every time she writes a book. She writes fast, but she writes extremely well. As always seems to be the case in this author’s great books, this installment was bursting with adventure, excitement, and fun, keeping all the characters on their toes. And, I do have to say this was probably the best book she has written so far. I love the characters, and I can’t wait until we learn more about Ana and Bree’s sister Rowan. She seems like she might be a great character…of course, this author wouldn’t write one that wasn’t. And Cade continues to be a great partner for Bree; he lets her do her thing with being too protective. This was a great installment to the series, I think the best so far. Give this book (and the whole series) a try; you will love it! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

I’ve always been a fan of this author. Her books are a bit formulaic and sometimes a little predictable, but always entertaining and she writes really strong male characters. I’ve found almost every book to be a little short, but this is balances out pretty well by how fast the next installments tend to be released.

In this installment Bree is still interesting, still pretty badass, and we get some clarity on what’s happening with the third sister, Rowan. I will say there is a slight convenient/borderline Mary Sue-ish tendency for Bree to acquire powers at moments when things are dire, which feels a little flimsy to me. At one point I actually laughed at loud bc she had been written into quite a pickle and bam, suddenly acquires additional god powers to solve the problem. It was a little absurd and happened more than once. So side eye to that but I’m still 4 stars because Cade is hot and Cass showed up a couple times.

And there is a ghost dog who is both a pug and a dragon. So.

Another awesome story by a fantastic writer. Bree and Cade make an amazing team (soon to become a couple, I hope). The Rebel Gods want to destroy the DragonGods. Thus, the DragonGods have no choice but to fight back. Doing the nearly impossible is simply to be expected.

I was provided this book as an ARC by the author; however, the review is my honest opinion.

gotta admit, i like this book better than the previous one. finally, the characters were not too idiotic, the plot was not to bad, and the adventures were thrilling and fun at the same time. kind of the perfect mixture

Recap:
Cade and Bree went to the vault to find Cade's fellow earth-walking god who was his friend back when he was a mercenary. he needed to confirm the horned god's identity that they fought in the temple and kidnapped Rowan. it was Cocidius, another Celtic war god and after they got this confirmation, they returned back to the UP stronghold to find Cass there and she brought Dr. Garisso, expert on Celtic culture to do some research. they set up a meeting to start tracking down the gods they saw. Bree and Cade would tracked down Cocidius in his realm by going through the entrance in a temple somewhere between Scotland and England; Cass, Ana and Caro would track the bloodied greek goddess using Cass' dragon sense; and Ali and Haris do some research on the third god.

Bree and Cade teleported to the temple, found the way that teleported them to Cocidius realm (which was puny and easy to enter because he was a weak god) but they were hunted by war dogs. Bree tried to scout the arena but she was also attacked by some hawks and she saw a dozen of hunters with the dogs. they overpowered and captured them (because they were sooo stupid, they preferred to be captured than kill some birds or the evil dogs) and took them through some village full of slaves and to the prison, but there was no sign of cocidius. there, they met a girl who had been kidnapped from nearby village and prefer to fight in the fighting ring rather than being slave. they planned to fight in the ring, wait until cocidius came, kill him, got her sister, and let everyone free.

the next day, they were pitted against each other. of course they didn't buy it, they passed through the challenge together, fire, water, and giant octopus made from dark magic who almost killed them but Bree got new thunder power from Thor but no one noticed, HALLELUJAH. they were separated from the others that night and the next day, they were told to fight again and this time, Rowan and Cocidius would watch.

the ring master created a thick jungle, added some monsters, and obscured their sights so they might kill each other. but they easily won it which angered the ring master and he summoned giant wasps, but again, they didn't die so they were announced to win. later that night, Bree felt Rowan's presence again and they started the revolting. they almost got her but she was enchanted to be under Cocidius's spell so she refused to be taken. Cade was fighting Cocidius but more guards came and overpowered him and Rowan was kidnapped again. at least they destroyed the village, then returned back.

they met with ana and cass, who just returned from investigation of the greek goddess, who turned out to be Eris goddess of strife while Ali and Haris found a lead about some snow god in germany. Rowan was under a joining spell that made her obeyed Cocidius so they went to the Vault again to get some answer from Melusine but she couldn't find out what spell it was so she called for Mordoca and Aerdeca's help. they found out what joining spell it was and the only antidote for it was very rare flower, almost no one knows about it except for this dude called the 'Conductor' in Ghent. he was somewhere in elite criminal club but they managed to get in, find the conductor, asked him where is the flower in exchange for the 'growing spell' that the blood sorceresses gave him, he said it was somewhere in underground waterfall in a castle, and went out unscathed.

they found the castle, couldn't get in so they had to follow the boat that just went out, ambushed the boater, stole his boat, went right back in, meet the minion of death, solved some punny riddle, almost died because of some uncuttable vine tried to kill them, Mayhem came to the rescue, found the flower, faced some psychopath zombie who tried to torture them, almost got captured by the 'viscount' of the castle, but managed to escape. they returned back to the UP stronghold, gave the flower to Hedy so she could make the antidote and she also promised Bree and Ana some kind of mirror that would allow them to see Rowan. now, all they had to do was wait for Ali, Haris, and Cass returned from tracking down some dark and cold Celtic god named Chernobog.

the next day, Cass, Ali, and Haris returned with god of life and sunlight, Chernobog's opposite, named Belobog. he said they used to be in balance but Chernobog got greedy and now, his evil magic overflowed in to the human's world in northern Germany. he took them to the entrance to Chernobog's realm, but he couldn't enter or he'd be 'snuffed out'. they rode on the buggy through the forest, fought some poisoned animals made of dark magic, and stopped at a shore where there was a hole in a middle of the water, jump straight to it and faced some sickness wraith, but Ana gained this godly power that drove them off. then they entered the ice castle after Cass melted the ice but no light could shine there and they were attacked by skeleton hands trying to squeeze them to death and the path was dotted by plunging holes.

after that, they passed grim reapers, who were afraid of wolves so they passed them easily but another monster called Belachko attacked them. together, they killed it but it warned the gods. demons spilled out of the castle, so did the gods, Ana and Bree went upstairs, to where they saw Rowan but Chernobog was also there. at first, Rowan seemed to be resisting but it wore off and she went willingly to Chernobog's side and he teleported away, Ana and Bree followed them.

they appeared in Eris' realm and they fought Chernobog, sent him lighting strike, Ana's white light was killing him, and he was down, Rowan was conscious and she stabbed him multiple times. but then she started to lose it and her eyes started to get foggy again so Bree made her drink the antidote, and she was healed. unfortunately at that moment, Cocidus and Eris came and they immediately ran to the portal back to Earth and fortunately, Cass and Cade came to take them home. Rowan confirmed that they kidnapped her to get to the other 2 (Ana and Bree), and they wanted to her power. fortunately, Rowan got some memories of their whereabouts in order to destroy them.

Absolutely Amazing!

The best of the series so far! Spoiler Alerts! The way Linsey has expanded Bree`s character is phenomenal! She is a Dragon God, gifted with powers from the Norse Gods of Legend. I love when Bree receives a new power and hears the whisper of the God, "Use It". She so fights the good fight, such a good read and listen for an Army Ranger, to fight on the side of right, protecting others so they may feel safe knowing I'm there, or in the case here, Bree and the Protectorate is their; the bond between Cade and Bree is great so much more than love, more an unbreakable bond, where they protect each other in all ways, it broke my heart in the end when Bree jumped through the portal created by a Heaven Transport charm! I knew he'd find her, even if it took millenia. It ended on such a happy note, I am glad I read this series before I read about Ana in the Celtic Saga. I really love Druid stories! J hope a series gets written about Rowan's story. Please oh please, Linsey, write that next. J haven't read the other series yet, "Huntress", Seeker, and "Protecter about Cass, Del, and Nix's stories, I think it may start with the Huntress, so after The Celtic Magic: That is where I'm going next. Thanks Linsey, see you all next time or look me up in Facebook. Rob Ballon writes, thanks for reading!

Attack By Magic, Dragon Gift, The Valkyrie Book 4
Linsey Hall
Not sure how you keep doing it Linsey, but each book just gets better with more twists and turns than ever. You hooked me with Hidden Magic, now I have to see how this thing ends.
Well Bree and Ana had been looking for their sister Rowan for a long time. Five years ago she just disappeared. Now they have clues as to where she is and who is holding her. The Rebel Gods who want Bree have Rowan. Getting her out of their clutches will not be easy. In fact it will be downright difficult if not impossible!!
But Bree has friends now that she and Ana did not have before, The Protectorate, Cass, Del and Nix, plus a hunky Celtic War God named Cade. Cade has been with Bree on this journey for a while now. Bree is having a very hard time focusing around Cade. She finds herself wondering, fantasizing, but finding Rowan and getting her out of where she was, takes top priority. But it doesn’t hurt to dream a little does it? Do Dragon Gods and Celtic Gods mix well? We KNOW they fight well together! If you like your magic shaken, not stirred, pick up a copy of Attack By Magic. You will be so glad you did!
I was given an ARC but the Review is freely given and all mine!

Good

Five years ago, Bree and Ana’s sister Rowan disappeared. Now they know what happened to her, and now it’s time to try and get her back.
Bree and Cade go hunting for Rowan, and try to find a way to free her- a task not without its dangers, nor is it without adventure!

This is not a standalone story, it has to be read in order with the other books in the “Valkyrie” sub-series of the Dragon’s Gift world. However, the Valkyrie books can be read without having read the rest of the Dragon’s Gift books, they just make more sense if you’ve read those first (context to various comments, nothing serious)…

We see a few cameo appearances from Magic’s Bend again, and our favourite ghost dog makes an appearance or two as well. This time Bree gets to try out her newly anchored magic against some big challenges while Cade is by her side, providing companionship and support, and the occasional godly deed.

There’s a little more romance, a lot of action, and plenty of magical adventures, which all adds up to a fun, fast paced adventure, providing a quick but entertaining read for the urban fantasy enthusiast.

Bree and Cade are back in Linsey Hall’s Attack by Magic, the fourth of her fabulous Dragon's Gift: The Valkyrie books. This is the power couple of urban fantasy. Don’t tell my husband but I’m definitely a bit in love (though it might just be in lust) with Cade. I definitely want my own sexy Celtic war god. I’m also definitely want to be Bree, all wonderfully kick-a** that she is. Fellow Dragon’s Gift addicts rest at ease that this is at least as good as (some will argue even better than) the prior books. As for newcomers, two things: First is that if the publisher’s blurb is at all appealing to you then it’s pretty much guaranteed that you’ll love this book. Second is that you nevertheless should not buy it until you’ve read the prior books, unless you’re buying them all at once, which you might as well do as these books are do addictive you’re bound to get all of them eventually.

Highly recommended.

Oh what a story! I’m so happy that Bree has finally completed her training and Ana had an introduction to her new powers to come. Best of all, Rowan their sister is finally with them! I loved having the gang together. It seems appropriate they lend their hand in theses stories since both Bree and Ana were introduced in Cass’s story along with her triumvirate. Cade and Bree continue to grow closer but they never put their personal feelings above the mission which greatly added to this fast paced story. I highly look forward to the beginning of Ana’s story. I wonder which pug will adopt Ana as I see a pattern here. I’m so glad the Buggy hasn’t been put out of commission because Ana get so much pleasure racing across the terrains of the regions toward danger to rescue what needs rescuing at the time. Good job Ms. Hall this story was a great ending to Bree’s individual story.

Yay! Ugh...still??

Firstly, this was a great continuation of Bree, Ana and now Rowan's story and I can't wait to get started on the next book. BUT...if I read another "...sent me/him/her to my/his/her (respective) knees" ONE more time before I can get the phrase unstuck from my head, I'm going to turn into Beetlejuice, a la twisted circus snake. Just STTTAAAHHHPPP!!! Seriously, stop with all of the overused descriptions and phrases! And stop being lazy with your editing. To read the acknowledgements, you'd think these damned books would be so pristine I could check my teeth in them. NOUPE. I just keep reading one after the next, thinking "surely she's going to start tidying these up more with the practice of repeating the process," but again, NOUPE. It's really distracting for me. Good thing these books seem to also be consistent in their pacing too at least.

These books are so good and so entertaining! I love the characters Linsey Hall has created in each of the Dragon's Gift books. These stories center on Bree, Ana and now Rowan who are sisters who used to live in Death Valley. Always on the run or hiding but not really knowing from what. One day Rowan disappeared out of thin air while the girls were heading to their vehicle. Years later the remaining two are attacked and rescued by members of The Protectorate. Taken to the Protectorate HQ, they're convinced to stay and learn more about their own magical powers. Naturally things happen and adventures ensue. In this latest book they're finally reunited with Rowan and now they're planning to hunt down and destroy the Rebel Gods. Good stuff!

More action packed adventure with magically death defying feats but you would expect no less when trying to save ones sister and the world for that matter.

Bree and Cade are trying to find and save Rowan but every time they get close she is yanked away

I love the little reminder everyone gives Bree when she thanks them 'your one of us' its awesome positive reinforcement.

I love all of the mythical histories wrapped up in each story and the magic is amazing, intriguing and very interesting.

I LOVE ALL OF BREE'S POWER'S THEY ARE TRULY BADASS BUT HER HEALING POWER IS AMAZING.
omg, what an ending I kept thinking this is going to be bad, you know how in a scary movie you want to look away but you just can't lol yep it was so like that.

Truly enjoying Linsey!

I learned of Linsey Hall a couple of months ago thanks to a reference in another book. I started with Cass’ adventures and ferociously devoured everything in between and now I’m here! Normally, as soon as there is a link to the next book, I’m tapping it. (I don’t read the excerpts because I am about to read the full book anyway.) I love Linsey’s work because I am a huge fan of history, mythology and fantasy. Imagine my delight when I just stumbled upon her section on things that she based the stories history on! Now I need to go back and read everything else again to read those sections! But, not yet. First, I need to continue with Bree’s story. Thank you, Linsey, for creating a fantasy world I truly enjoy.

So close yet not close enough. As their sister slips away again it's time to pump up the crew and go after their sister. Loads of action and so much fun to be had as they dive further into the world of the gods. Bree will find strength where none existed, Cade will stay close by her side and Anna will find something she did't know she had. Friends will battle and support, and rescue. Alliances will be made and promises will be issued. Don't blink cos you might miss something.

I don't know how this author continues to come up with awesome battles and characters you want to hug and keep safe but she does. It makes for a great read if you can handle the heart palpitations.

Awesome contemporary magical fantasy with a touch of romance. Bree and Ana have been searching for over 5 years for their abducted sister Rowan. They learn that dangerous bad gods have her and are using Rowan for evil against both the magical and human worlds. At Bree's side is Cade who himself is a god. There is a battle being fought and another coming with the evil gods. Ms. Hall has managed again to out do herself with this Valkyrie series. Hopefully, soon we'll get to read both Ana and Rowan's books. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Hall whose imagination is the best there is.

Always a great story

If you want a good book for an afternoon read that is packed full of action and adventure pick up any book by Linsey Hall and you won't go wrong. It is always fun to read a series by Linsey because you know it will be a good series that has everything you crave. Dragon's Gift series doesn't disappoint. I think with each series Ms. Hall becomes an even better writer and I love that you get to read about characters from previous books. Definitely grab one of her books, a blanket, and find a good spot to curl up and read your way into a new life,

Attack by magic

In this book, they take on the rebel gods to artIsan back. Not a lot of resolution in this book and it seemed shorter, but still plenty type of action, fight scenes and cool new magic. Ana is starting to come I to her own. I wish Bree and Cade's relationship would progress, at least a little. There was more reference to it in book one, than books 2-4. As soon as storyline progresses, the others seem to stop, instead of all developing a little along way. That ringside, it is well written, and exciting enough to get through quickly.

Still loads of adventure

This book still has tons of adventure and I can't say how much I enjoyed the world created by Linsey. The Gods are refreshing because I'm seeing them in a different light. Rowan is found but she comes with complications I'm sure we're going to learn in the next book. I'm still waiting on this whole Brew and Cade thing!! Fingers crossed the next book let's them develops if not I'm done because a reader likes a bit of a story and wait but four books in and still just kisses???

Another fun, entertaining story for book 4! In this one, Bree is trying to find her missing sister, which puts her in some more dangerous situations; Cade is along for the ride too. They find themselves in a bit of a gladiator scenario. Good action! Cool magic! Like that Bree has access to magic from the different Norse Gods. I do still miss any emotional impact to this story; Cade tells Bree that she matters so much to him, and she barely has a reaction. I get annoyed that Bree keeps denying what they are to each other. A good read, and I’m looking forward to reading the finale!

I can’t get enough!!

I really do enjoy all of these books!! The mythology and the historical references call to a piece of my soul that no other author has done. Please keep these stories going!! Casa started this journey with me and I love how they all get to have their stories told. After these three sisters’ stories are done I hope to read on about mordeca and her sister. Please forgive my horrible spelling of her name. Thank you so much for these wonderful stories!

The struggle to find their sister has been long and hard, five years of looking. Now Bree and Ana with the help of the Protectorate finally have a chance of rescuing their sister. Its a hard fight, helping people along the way as they remove the evil. Small battles until the final showdown. Bree, Ana and Rowan will have to join forces and fight as one in order to survive.. to win. A good read with characters that you can actually cheer for.

If this was the end of the series gotta say I'm disappointed. A little cliché but you could tell that from the synopsis, following that fast paced action with overpowered characters. The romance came through a little but more high school crush than anything. What I like about this one is how easy it reads, so if you're looking for something to finish on a bus jouney something like this would be ideal.

What a rush

Bree, Cade, Ana and the gang are hot on the trail of the Rebel Gods that are using Rowan to power their realms. They need to break the powerful spell binding Rowan to the Gods. Will they find the cure and are they strong enough to battle the Gods.
I absolutely loved this book and series so far. This is non stop action all the way. I highly recommend all The Dragon Gift books.

Awesome

Enjoyed the book tremendously!! Thank you, Linsey. I know I'm being pushy, but when will the final book in the series about Bree come out? It's just that I love these books so much that it's really hard waiting for the next one. Perfect blend of magic, suspense and danger with just the right amount of romance.

Holy Fates

What an action packed thrill ride. Poor Bree and Cade, they really went through the ringer in this. I mean really, at one point they were jumping through flaming rings. Sometimes, I can't believe everything Linsey can come up with for her characters to go through. I am not sure if I want to be anything more than a normal human in her books. Haha.

Bree Battles to Find Rowan

If you have been following this latest series, which you should definitely do, you will become further entranced by both Bree and Cade’s relationship, and the support given to Bree and Ana as they continue to search for their missing sister, Rowen.

The magical action is entertaining and I look forward to each book in each series.
