Sometimes I have sudden cravings and waiting to order this book so I could finally read it, was almost a form of torture. Even though they are filled with cliches and are maybe not that original anymore, I have a truly soft spot for the more classical YA’s where a normal girl discovers she is special and an amazing guy notices it too.

In a lot of ways this book is clearly the middle book in a trilogy. The plot isn’t moving that fast and the characters are clearly moving from A to B to get ready for the finale. In a lot of ways there’s also a lot happening in this book that just takes time: Megan is learning, growing, failing, fighting, falling, standing up and finding her true power.

And it’s a joy to witness that journey. Even though she is special and powerful and has a role to play, she’s also very relatable and human in a way. She makes mistakes, messes things up and is at times a little reckless. It’s however easy to identify with her and to feel for her. And not just for her, also for the circle of friends she’s surrounding herself with.

Her story is written down in a very easy to read writing style, without it really feeling childish or simple. I flew through the book and just didn’t wanna stop reading anymore.

I can’t wait to see how everything will come together and reach its climax in the last book.

I DNF'd this book about 60% of the way through. I just couldn't take anymore of the relationship drama between Megan and Oenen. One page Megan is like "ohhh he's my everything" - Another page Megan is like "I'm too dangerous Oenen so we need to break up - Another page Megan is like "I can't live without him I'm going to make this work" - Another page Megan is like "NO. I'm going to end up killing him, don't call me anymore Oenen" - Another page Megan is like "I'm going to try and make this work". This went on and on and on. And I'm just like - Oenen you can do better. This book became too dramatic and Megan too annoying, and therefore I quit.

Got redundant and annoying after awhile..

Liked book one but book two was redundant. The storyline drag a bit and the subject of learning about the mc fury powers was slow too. The mc got annoying because her continued I want you or I don't want you repetitive treatment of the h got old after awhile.

The part where the mc allowed another guy to hug her and kiss her face constantly no matter the reasons were the same as cheating. Of course it wasn't called that. The whole poor me and I'm tired of not knowing what I was as a fury got old and annoying. Oh yeah the f/f kissing part of the book was unnecessary I think.

I think book three wasn't even needed. I pretty much gave up at 80%. This book could have concluded the series. If you don't mind a slow character development and a snarky annoying female, you might like this book.

Loved the second instalment of this series.
I'm absolutely enthralled with the writing, and the world this author brings me into.
The sheer amount of backstory on every person. both human and supernatural being alike, is fantastic and I love seeing the main characters growth as she learns about herself, while also dealing with romantic relationships and friendships along the way.
I hoped for so much with the story, given my love of the first one and this author delivered so completely.
Now the only downside is the wait for the next book.
Can't wait for the ride that comes next!

I was deciding between 3 or 4 stars because I really like Megan and everyone else (except for Adira 🤮), but it only got interesting at about 70%? There was too much tug of war between her and Oanen and Megan nog receiving any guidance

The story continues with Megan working as the human liaison at the Academy, and trying to figure out how to control her powers, and trying to figure out her relationship with Oanan. That's quite a lot to deal with.

The pressure and expectations on Megan never let up, and it didn't help that the adults around her never offered any guidance at all. Megan pretty much had to figure everything out on her own. I like that she called bullshit on everyone who manipulated her instead of helping.

The romance did not work at all. Oanen never gave her room, or let up with trying to push himself on her. It didn't matter how terrified Megan was of hurting him, which she did! Multiple times! Ugh! It also didn't help that Megan kept flip flopping about seeing him. Today she wants to be his girlfriend, then she doesn't any more. Talk about mixed signals - another reason he should have backed off.

And the fact that they somehow bonded for life when Megan was a complete mess is another way that Oanen pushed himself into her life. He paid a lot of lip service to caring about her, and wanting what's best for her, but in the end, it was all about what he wanted.

The good parts of the book were about Megan being active in finding out what her powers were, taking control of her life, and not letting everyone (except Oanen) push her around. She worked hard to figure herself out, and I was happy with where she ended up. The romance felt forced, and fake, but the little revelation at the end of the book makes me interested in continuing with the series.

Welcome back to Uttira! Where reality meets fantasy! I didn’t think this series could get any better, but I was wrong. Fury Focused is the second book in the Of Fates and Furies series by Melissa Haag. Fury Frayed was an amazing introduction into the world of Uttira, but Fury Focused was total immersion into this new and wonderful world. This story has mystery, fantasy, and a bit of romance. This book is not a stand-alone. Book 1 needs to be read first.
I loved the plot of this book. Each book has an interconnected plot, but this book takes it a step further. Megan has the answer to what she is, she just doesn’t know what it means. I loved how the author included different conflicts to test our heroine and keep the story moving. I cannot wait to see where she takes the third book.
Megan is as feisty as ever. In Fury Focused, we get to see more of her fiestyness, but also her determination. We also get to see how protective she can get when she truly cares for someone. Oanen is the main male character in this book. I love how understanding and patient he is. I feel like his character needed to be patient in order to compliment Megan. I love his character.
I also love each of the minor characters in this book. Each add a different layer needed to really enhance the story in the best possible way. Eliana is my favorite character. She is such a small shy thing, but she is also feisty in her own way. Then you have Fenris. He is an interesting character on his own. I was not expecting the twist that involves him. It was amazing and added just another perfect layer to the Uttira cake.
The heat in this book is ramped up a bit, pun intended. Not only is there literal heat and fire, but there is also a tad bit more romance in this story. I loved watching as these characters all get to know each other. Especially when some start to get closer. I don’t want to reveal too much, but I loved this aspect to this book.
The pace of this book is a bit faster than the first, but it feels organic to the story. Now that the character has more answers, it makes sense for her to pick up the pace looking for the answers to the questions she has left. This author really makes you feel like you are in this world with these characters. She makes you feel invested in both the characters and the story. I could not put this book down.
In conclusion, I am in love with Uttira. I cannot wait for the next book to come out. I devoured this book and was deeply saddened when it ended. This book has mystery and fantasy with a touch of romance, which is the perfect formula for me. I would recommend this book to others and have already have.

For those who havent read the series yet and are debating it, stop hesitating because this book was amazeballs! This book is perfect for those who are into the greek and norse mythological stories with a twist. And Melissa is such a bomb writer that every page is worth it.

If you have read the Jo6 series and were frustrated about how long you had to wait to see the big bad (aka the major antagonist), Melissa has drifted from this mode of story telling to have a book by book antagonist with an overarching storyline instead of the other way around. This means that you get the satisfaction of getting closure at the end of each book, with enough of a cliff hanger that you are left asking for more.

Looking at the characters, Megan is a fantastic lead. She has developed so much from the previous book, and her relationship with a certain Griffin? Can we say HOT HOT HOT? But her relationships with her best friend (a succubus) and the humans in town really gives her this complex, layered feeling that is really entertaining and satisfying to read. She isn't a simple character by any means. And often, when you think she is going to do something one way, she surprises you as a reader and does something you weren't quite expecting! I will say that I was hoping for some more drama between her relationships that I didn't really get, but I feel like we might see more of that in the next novel.

Plot wise, as mentioned above, Haag has shifted away from having an overarching antagonist and instead has the conflict arrise on a book by book basis. This personally isn't my favourite thing, but I get where it is coming from after a huge series like Judgement of 6 which took something like 11 books to really face off with the bad guy. She and some of her readers probably want something lighter, and that's what this book is. It is EXTREMELY well written, and I can easily overlook my desire for some major antagonist in light of fantastic writing and great plots and characters.

Overall, great book, great writing, great characters, great series so far. You should read it. No question, buy a copy now if you haven't already!

Once again Haag is delivered a mature YA novel with strong characters and a unique plot. Fury Focused picks up right after the events in the first book, and Megan’s mad - not that this is something unusual for her but this time her anger has heat.

I love Megan; she’s tough and she’s not afraid to put her foot down but she is fair and has a mature and levelheaded (funnily enough with all the anger involved) approach to situations. I was beginning to feel a bit put off by the intense need for each other (cannot stand infatuation in characters) between Megan and Oanen but was satisfied with the reason behind it. I was also relieved that the love interests didn’t turn into a love triangle - didn’t see that revelation coming, puts a whole new light on certain scenes from book one.

We got to meet a couple of new creatures but this book mainly revolved around ones mentioned in book one; however Fury Frayed definitely reaffirmed my uneasiness with being in murky water, fiction or not. I’m glad Elianna still featured so heavily, I cannot wait to read more about her in the next book and we learn more about Megan and what being a Fury really means. Actually, Fury Focused is mainly about Megan’s self discovery and didn’t feel as plot centred as the first.

Haag definitely knows how to write a YA novel that will hold your interest. And even though I’m hoping the next has more happen in the storyline, I still really enjoyed Fury Focused and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Also, there’s a little heat, nudity and kissing but all still in the realms of YA. And just like the first book, Fury Focused has a main story arch but as it’s an ongoing series there is a slight cliffhanger ending, just enough to leave you wanting more.

A really nice read

Yet again this was a very good read by Melissa Haag, once Ive started the series I can't seem to put it down and I thoroughly enjoyed the first book as well as this book. I was excited to start on the 2nd book as the 1st was gripping and brought me into Megan's world. Although once I started reading it there was some points where I was getting little tired of the academy life, being in school constantly looking at things that I would probably find useless if I was in that situation. but as Megan's life progresses I started getting more involved in the story of how she has to deal with her newfound powers that she is unintentionally hurting the ones that she loves. Doing what she thinks is right by leaving Oanen even when her insides are turning just to be near him. Then it starts when Megan begins making some enemies by saving her friends and sticking up for the ones who need to be looked after (Humans).

Megan comes to the realisation that she's not going to get any answers from the adults and decides to find her own way in getting those answers. Throw in a vindictive mermaid, an embarrassed Incubus, a magical lake of Sea Folk containing an Island of Woe, an overprotective/determined boyfriend, an Oracle that no one has seen, and powers that just don't want to make life easy. Megan has to battle it out to make a stand against those who would undermined the weak around them and others who wish to use her for their own means.

oh and to top it all off finding a message from her mother about her heritage and other relatives which was a complete shock at the end of the book. I can't wait to read the next to find out what Megan will do.

My Thoughts:
Book one is all about introducing this world of the Furies, This book is a paranormal romance. And it does not really explain how Megan managed to control her powers. It all seems like a lucky accident. All her efforts seems to be on a a wrong course. That does not make the story endearing to me at all! Plot-wise, there isn't much of a one. Having said that, this book seems to have closed the series already. However, there is still book 3, so that must be the crescendo of this trilogy. After all that whinging, it still has the compelling story telling quality which made this book a very enjoyable read indeed!

This series seems to have multiple cover arts. sometimes they get it right, sometimes it is awesomely horrible! This book hit the middle line. Not too bad.

Empirical Evaluation:
Story telling quality = 4.5
Character development = 4.5
Story itself = 4
Writing Style = 4
Ending = 4
World building = 4.5
Cover art = 4
Pace = 4
Plot = 2

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5

The first in the series was fantastic, and we learn so much about Megan and what she needs to do in order to be able to leave Uttira. But, this second one makes everything clearer and more exciting as she studies to try to figure out what she is and what her place in this new world might be. And even as Oenen risks his life to help her through this most difficult stage of her life, we're kept on the edge of our seats, wondering if either of them will survive the changes she is going through and if she'll ever find the answers she's looking for.

It's exciting and frightening along with being sweet and hot (no pun intended). The adventure the author takes us on is intricate and eye-opening and involves so many interesting beings we never could have imagined. But I have to say that my favorite part is how strong the heroine is. She has moments of weakness, but she stands up on her own two feet and keeps fighting through each hurdle that is thrown at her. She stubborn and single-minded which doesn't leave room for much more. But somehow, those who care for her most push their way into her heart until she can do nothing but accept them inside. The story is sweet, angry, dangerous, passionate and powerful. And I have no idea where the author is going to take it from here.

4.5 Stars

All of the elements we loved in the first book are present (and then some 🙂), and the story is off to a great start. The reader is ensnared from the very beginning. And although Megan spends more time at the academy, we begin to see that her journey is bigger than “attending school” and that the setting of future books may not include the academy. The magical ride that Melissa takes us on does encounter a bit of a snag. All of the back and forth of the internal struggles of the MC, lack of self discovery, and overall unanswered questions serves as a source of frustration for the protagonist and (unfortunately) the reader. Although conflicts usually add a nice mixture of tension and spice to the story, the over-abundance of it here caused a lag in the story that made the progression of the plot feel...well, hindered.
THANKFULLY forward momentum picks back up around 80% and the climax doesn’t disappoint (it’s freakin’ AWESOME). There’s action. There’s suspense. There’s relief. And there’s resolution. Melissa even sets the stage for the next book without leaving the reader hanging. Very fun read.

A good continuation of what is shaping up to be a great series.
Our main girl Megan now knows what she is, but the question left is what does it mean to be a fury? This part of the story is mainly about Megan realising her powers and how to harness them but she doesn't get much help from the adults around her. Instead she relies on her own inner strength that has developed through years of coping with her anger, and also her friends who do what they can to stick by her side even though at times she is too hot too handle.
Griffin is the perfect calm to her storm, except when he gets jealous, and goes through a fair bit of suffering with her.
Eliana is the epitome of a best friend always there offering her support even though she is going through her own battles.
Fenris is a good guy really and I did not see THAT coming.
Now I'm just annoyed I have to wait for book 3 after the clanger that was dropped lol.

This sequel may have been even better than this first one! It was fun, full of adventure, intrigue, and a swoony romance that all has you begging for more! I couldn’t put it down, especially the last quarter of the book which had me on the edge of my seat!

This one picks up right where the first book leaves off. Megan is still so hilarious and yet in-FURY-atingly uptight as she worries about the progression of her relationship with Oanen. I could feel myself wanting to throttle her again like in the first book and just want to smack some sense into her. However, besides the build-up of their relationship, there is a ton going on. We still have that mystery surrounding the gods, her mother, her powers, Fenris’s mate run, and the town’s creatures. You can just see all of this leading up to an absolutely epic conclusion. It is going to be so hard to wait for the next one!

Much like other reviews have already pointed out, the story just got even better in this second volume! The characters keep developing, and the cast is expanding -- though I did notice that this means less time with some of our previous characters, most importantly, Megan's best friend who just wasn't around nearly as much in this book, and I missed her dearly! While the teenagery hot-and-cold (pun intended) mood swings and terrible decisions are enough to make me want to shake them senseless, I also find them fun and refreshing to be "real" people who have mood swings and make bad decisions rather than annoyingly perfect characters with no flaws. And there is a really deep message hidden in here about the ambiguity of good versus evil, and wow, this story just has it all, doesn't it? Um, yes. Duh.

Melissa Haag is a young adult fantasy/paranormal romance writer with six series, a million books, and a gazillion followers (of which I am one). I was privileged to get a sneak preview of Book 1 of the series, Fury Frayed, so I was primed to read the second, Fury Focused, and Ms Haag does not disappoint. First, this series may fall into the young adult category (I certainly don’t), but her stories will appeal to any fan of fantasy/paranormal romance. She creates a richly nuanced world of both strange and familiar, taps into classic mythology, ramps up tension and conflict into a page-turning frenzy, and leans heavily on the emotional depths of romance rather than the physical. Low heat but an emotional inferno. It’s a series of standalone novels. Read them in any order, but read them all! Five Stars.

O M G!!!

I LOVED this book!!

From the very first page I was hooked and couldn't put it down!
I thought the first book in this series was brilliant but book 2 is amazing! It is action packed and interesting, the storyline and characters make you feel so much and I found myself gasping and muttering to myself throughout. The ending has me not so patiently waiting for book 3 as there's is so many different ways it could go and I know it's going to be AWESOME!!?!? Can not wait to see what happens next and just like all of Melissa's books I have my fingers crossed to find out more about other characters stories as the adventure continues! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
If you haven't started this series you need to start it right now! You will love it!!!

Better than the first!!

Melissa Haag has outdone herself this time. This is one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time.
Megan finally knows that she is a Fury, but not what that entails exactly. In her quest for answers, she is tough as ever. As she comes into her powers, she begins to stand up for herself and others. Her fierce dedication to do what’s truly right, not just what the adults in charge tell her to do, is my favorite thing about her.
The push and pull she feels with Oanan, fear for his safety fighting her awakening desire for him, really builds the sexual tension. When it finally pays off, it will be oh-so-gratifying. *swoon*
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go pre-order the final book in this series and die quietly until it arrives on my Kindle.

This series cant get any better, or can it?

I absolutely loved the first book in this series and couldn't wait to get my hands on the next one. The author did not disappoint me in fact I'm pretty sure she made my expectations even higher than before! We get lots of Megan and Oanen in this one and I love their dynamic but also the way he never wavers from wanting her. Megan is a serious badass with a chip on her shoulder. She is definitely making enemies and taking names but I love how she doesn't let anyone bully her not even the ones in charge. I am so excited this series will continue and I am already anxious for the next book!!

Definitely best sequel hands down

I love love love this book! It picks up right after book 1, And does not disappoint. Megan is the “Fury” and she starts growing her powers more and is desperately trying to control it but is having a hard time. Plus now she actually had a boyfriend Oanen who is trying not to burnt him... literally to ashes lol So when the school starts tempting her “temper” not cool. They actually get a glimpse of what she is really made off.. dont mess with the furry!! Or anybody she likes! I love her! Ps. Watch out for mermaids... they are the opposite of the LITTLE MERMAID lol

Lots of action

I really enjoyed reading this book. There was lots of action to keep it interesting and the types of creatures described are different to what I’ve read in the past (mermaids and griffins!), which made it really fun to read.

I adore Oanan, he is so beautiful, and Megan is a good strong character. Some of the decisions that Megan makes irk me a little, but I could see why her character would make those decisions, so it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story.

The writing was fluid and the dialogue felt natural, the plot kept moving and there were no typos that I noticed. I’m really looking forward to book 3 when it releases.

Megan's character has finally decided to date Oanen (swoon!!) and I am totally here for it! Megan is pretty reluctant to date because her anger issues have destroyed past relationships and she's never understood why. Now that she knows what she is Oanen thinks that she will have a better handle on her emotions and while Megan doesn't think it will be that easy she likes Oanen enough to try. We all know how much I love love, so watching their relationship grow and finding out about Griffin mating patterns was the apex of the book for me.

Entertaining

Megan finally acknowledged the attraction with Oanen, who can be very jealous. She still has anger management issues and therefore is not allowed in the human world. She gets angriest when she recognized that someone has done something wrong. She discovers what she really is, but is deterred when she continues to burn Oanen. Life ducks.

Megan discovers that the adults have been far from truthful to her and she strikes out on her own to find answers from an Oracle. Nothing is as it seems, which includes the Oracle.

Can Megan escape this date and find the answers she seeks?! Or will she did at the hands of the mermaids? Must read to find out.

I LOVED IT !
Abandoned in a town of mythological creatures, Megan must discover why she's part of a world she never knew existed
Book 2 has started right where we left off Megan has found herself in a job trying to have a relationship, while fighting to find her truth . As love forms, and friends come together, I find this book just as fun, fast paced , and riveting as the first . A rollercoaster of events that keep you reading, and on the edge of your seat .An amazing read . I recommend it .

Wonderful sequel

This is a fantastic sequel to book one, I just couldn’t put it down!!! This author just keeps getting better with each new book she writes!! Megan is such a great character she takes no nonsense from anyone and I love her strong personality and how she struggles with her relationships with others especially Oanen. This book really focuses on Megan trying to discover who she really is and I really enjoyed all the twists and turns, cannot wait for book 3!! 5 stars 😁 this series is shaping up to be a favourite of mine!!!

Absolutely fantastic

I adored this book. Megan was so strong but still so worried about how her powers affect those around here. I love Oanen and his devotion to Megan. There were so many fantastic part in this book. I laugh and definitely cried. It was so good

This world is fantastic and can’t wait to read more. All the side characters are fantastic too. I almost hope there is a spin off with a certain couple that I won’t specify because of spoilers.

Definitely recommend this.

The second installment of the Of Fates and Furies series is such a fun, enjoyable read! The reader is once again taken on a journey of self-discovery with the main character, Megan, as she learns more about herself, her new environment, responsibilities, and the ins and outs of life in Uttira and at Girderon Academy. The author does a great job of reeling the reader in and engaging them in the storyline. Sacrifice, duty, honor, and humanity are all explored in-depth as Megan determines her destiny.
