Chameleon Uncovered
As an assassin and thief, Libby's on a first-name basis with larceny, mayhem, and death, but she's not used to being on the receiving end. Chicago is far darker and more dangerous than her native Toronto. Amidst terrorist bombings, stolen treasure, and murder, a mutant prophet calls for revolution. Away from her family and friends, Libby has nowhere to turn as enemies assault her from all sides.
Chameleon's Challenge
Libby's chameleon mutation has led to a lucrative career as a thief and assassin. She normally doesn't worry about the comfort of corporate executives, but when she stumbles onto the grisly murder of a rich man's mistress, it gets her attention. The murder leads Libby to believe her best friend's life is in danger, and she vows to protect her.
I made silver and turquoise jewelry for almost a decade, ended up in nursing school, then took a master’s in business. Along the way I worked in construction, as a newspaper editor, a teacher, and somehow found a career working with computers.
As to my other interests, I love the outdoors, especially the Rocky Mountains. I’ve skied since high school, with one broken leg and one torn ACL to show for it. I’ve hiked and camped all my life. I love to travel, though I haven’t done enough of it. I’ve seen a lot of Russia and Mexico, not enough of England. Amsterdam is amazing, and the Romanian Alps are breathtaking. Lake Tahoe is a favorite, and someday I’d like to see Banff.
This book is hands down one of the most thrilling series I’ve ever read! Libby’s kick a**, dry humor, tech nerd, commitment issues (lol), character is just so realisticly written. The suspense of every job she picks up had my eyes glued to the page. Kingsolver is truly an amazing writer capable of drawing you in to any story universe she creates.
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
4.5*
First time read the author's work?: No
Will you be reading more?: Yes
Would you recommend?: Yes
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
Strong woman with smart mouth, flexible morals and unconventional career? Yup. Tall, dark, handsome lawman? He's here. Inconvenient magnetic attraction? Oh, yeah. Personal jaunts that turn into lethally dangerous mysteries? Oooh, boy - yup! What's a girl got to do to be allowed to fulfill a contract here, lift a little pretty bauble there, and just enjoy life without interference? For Elizabeth Nelson, she is just too good at what she does to be ignored. It does not help that she has the curiosity of a cat and has to poke her nose into things and places best left alone. Things get hairy for Libby but she can handle them. How she handles them - that makes for thrilling stories that kept me reading when I should have been working. Ooops!
I absolutely loved the idea of having a strong female lead who is not a goody two shoes. The chameleons assassin boxset introduces us to a female assassin with her own set of ethics and a good heart - but she doesn't mind a bit of larceny and killing to achieve her ends. At heart she is a kind and compassionate person but this is tempered with ruthlessness and practicality - all in all she is a person I'd love to meet .
Well that was another superb book, the story was well crafted with just the right mix of everything, love, sex, violence, sci fi, well ho would have ever envisaged flying cars. Plus excellent inclusion of food, various other types of human or mutations of the human genome, Lycans, vampires of course, plus the Trolls and other species stroke sub species. Thanks a truly stupendous story...
This is a fast paced series, the first three books lock you in within the first couple of chapters. And then the hits keep on coming. You are fully in the head of Libby as she works her way through some gritty mysteries. I will definitely read more books by this author.
The heroine is skilled at being an assassin, thief, and jacket besides being a mutant. She ends up solving crime and giving to charities. She is bi and casually dated multiple people throughout this box set.
I love the characters, Libby and get parents. The action of the plot is fast paced, hard hitting, and absorbing. I thoroughly enjoyed your story. Can't wait to see the new book and read it. Hope to read it soon and any others.
Intelligently written and factually accurate. Nice to read an author with experience in some of the areas she is writing fiction about. Interesting characters and I’m on to the next volume in the series.
I bought the box set because I enjoyed this author and I wasn't disappointed. As soon as I finished this set I bought the next 2 books in the series. Give them a try, you won't be sorry.
The first 3 books in the Chameleon Assassin series. BB Kingsolver is a genius writer. Had me from the very beginning. A very intriguing variation on a post apocalyptic world. Highly recommend.
A little syfy. A little urban fantasy. Strong female lead:) yum!! Love it. The arena was great but the characters are well written and developed! So so good!
This was a great set to read and I really enjoy all three books. The characters were light funny and we'll developed. The lead character was smart, brave and ready to fight for her friends and clients.
I would recommend these books to anyone. They are a PNR, dystopian, mystery/detective and a little romance. The mystery is simple to figure out but entertaining to read and they are edited well.
If you like a kick ass heroine, this is for you. Smart and sassy, not too above board. And a heart of gold, with a little mutant ability thrown in. A good read, I finished this series in a few days and am moving in to the next one.
First time reading author BR Kingsolver, love your last name. Loved this series, great storyline and characters. Totally different from the norm for me. Exciting, lots of action, well written.
A perfect heroine with imperfections set in a believable future post apocalyptic world. Interesting friends aid her in her even more interesting adventures! Enjoy!!
This writers writings flow You don't wanna put the book down. The stories are really well put together I will Read Any books In the future that Become available
This is such a fun read! The lead character is a strong woman with a skewed sense of right and wrong. But it works - you get the impression she's actually a really nice person that would be tons of fun to hang out with. I certainly enjoyed spending time with her on her adventures over these books and the follow ups. Really recommend.
I loved these books & recommended them until I got to #3 “Chameleon’s Challenge”. It describes very graphic torture and frankly I spent two hours in the middle of the night trying to erase the memory of what I had read. The first two I would give 5 stars, intriguing plot and characters with a reminder of what our world may be like in 200 years if we don’t shape up. Since I can’t rate the books individually, this takes the overall rating from 5 to a 3.
