This curriculum is an effective method to teach children about the achievements of African American scientists and Inventors who helped shape American Society. This Afrocentric curriculum helps inspire and motivate students. Accelerated learning can be used in the classroom, at home, in churches, and youth organizations. Students will increase school achievement, learning, and long-term retention. This process incorporates the various learning styles of students and enables them to learn almost anything while having fun in a relaxed atmosphere. Accelerated learning is a brain-based teaching and learning method. It involves packaging the content and conditioning the student so that material can be digested and understood faster by breaking down barriers to learning. Research has found that when it comes to reading, learning, or studying, people tend to benefit most from music that evokes a sense of calm or relaxation. The general benefits of music perceived as “soothing” are quite varied and include improved attitude, stress, and anxiety reduction, lower blood pressure and pulse rate, setting a comfortable pace and enhanced concentration. Dr. Georgi Lozanov, developed a method called suggestopedia in the early 60’s. His purpose was to combine right brain and left-brain abilities to help people learn faster and retain information longer. Lozanov realized the power of suggestion could be used to improve teaching methods. He found that it was possible for people to learn vast amounts of new material, with excellent retention over time, without stress or tension. He accomplished this by orchestrating the structural elements of the learning environment in specific ways. The role of the teacher was found to be critically important in engaging the learners in ways which helped them maximize their learning. Imagination is the key to accelerated learning. It is the ability to visualize and to produce a mental impression of sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touch. Imagination can be used to create an active visual link between two ideas you are trying to remember. Guided imagery is used to present lessons while listening to baroque music. During this relaxation period, students hear the terms they are to learn presented with the encoding of the five senses. Images of visual pictures are created in their mind as they hear the words and phrases spoken during this session.
