About the author

Jean Henri Dunant, Swiss philanthropist, founded the international Red Cross in 1863 and shared the Nobel Prize of 1901 for peace.

Henry Dunant, a man and social activist, conducted business. During a business trip in 1859, he witnessed the aftermath of the battle of Solferino in modern day Italy. He recorded his experiences in A Memory of Solferino , the book, which inspired the creation of the committee in 1863. Ideas of Dunant based the Geneva Convention of 1864. In 1901, he received first together with Frédéric Passy.

أقام هنري دونان ستة أشهر في ما كان يُعرف بـ "الإيالة التونسية" ما بين عامي 1856 و1857، ولم يُخف إعجابه بانفتاح البلد الذي كانت تتعايش في مدنه الساحلية أقليات عرقية ودينية وافدة من الحوض المتوسطي، مثل الطليان والمالطيين والأندلسيين مسلمين ويهودا المطرودين من إسبانيا، إلا أن ما أثار إعجابه أكثر إقدام المشير أحمد باشا باي حاكم البلاد في عام 1846 على سن مرسوم يُلغي الرق.
