Rate this book
After helping her boss, Hugo Lawrence, win a high-profile murder case involving a Mafia hit man, Shelly Barnes thought her future was secure. But life had other plans for her. After being fired for no reason and callously dumped in the same week, too many shots led to her waking up in Jason Phillips bed the next morning.
Although they just met, Jason is completely captivated by this strong woman, who seems to take every blow life sends her way with a grace that few people he knows can manage. He steps in, helping her in his own way, not realizing just how much his interference will rub her the wrong way.
Life holds more surprises for Shelly. First her former boss disappears, and the focus shifts to her, not only from the police but also from the people they defeated in court. Will Shelly ever be safe again?

Blindsided, by Kami Larke.
This has to be one of the most classic cliff-hangers, ever. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Shelly Barnes, a brilliant paralegal who works for top-notch lawyer Hugo Lawrence in Columbus, Georgia, is suddenly fired by him after a wildly successful murder case in which she aided her boss in getting the suspected killer off. No reason. Unbelievable to her after she had worked herself into a top position with him over eight long years.

Stunned, she packs up her things and leaves, still shocked by her termination. In the process of trying to put the pieces together, she breaks up with her boyfriend of many moons. Because he's a controlling SOB, he dumps her the minute he thinks she's no longer employed.

Turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to her. Her best friend Crissy introduces her to Jason Phillips, a man she finds very interesting. Jason, in turn, introduces her to his friend lawyer Brooklyn Matthews, who jumps at the chance to hire an experienced paralegal.

It's at that point that Shelly suspects she's being followed. Then her former boss disappears. And suddenly it's evident that Shelly is the target of some evil men,
all because of her involvement in the Henderson murder case.

But what really sets Shelly off, is that she suspects Jason has called in favor with Brooklyn Matthews to get her the new job. She feels he's manipulating her, which after her bad experience with Joey, she just can't tolerate.

She breaks up with Jason, then relents and meets him at a nearby park to hear his explanation. She gets one, but in the process falls off the dock they are standing on into a river. She is pulled out by some men in a boat, and before anyone realizes it is kidnapped! End of Book 1.

I couldn't believe it! Just when the story was getting exciting. Cliff-hanger. I must say it made me crave the sequel--Misty River, which Larke promised would follow almost immediately.

What I liked about this book was the way it built slowly, incident by incident, until you began to realize something terrible was happening. It never became clear what, and the cliff-hanger ending took me completely by surprise.

But I have to say that the book was so well crafted I didn't get mad. I just couldn't wait to read the next book. Now THAT is the sign of a brilliant writer.

Disappointing Ending

Basically, I enjoyed this book up until the ending. The characters were interesting and the story line was good. But the ending left this so unfinished. I've never given a book such a low rating. Please please don't end a book like this in the future.

Loved it!!!

Warning this book ends on a cliffhanger, but the way Kami writes will keep you turning the pages. The chemistry between the characters is wonderful. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
