She's perfect for him... except she's a phoenix...
When the Ileos clan invites shifter clans from the Firelands to watch their new leader take power, Maikel Argonis doesn’t have much choice but to attend. As second in line to the throne, his lack of interest for this kind of social function is not reason enough to stay home. His father, the king of the Firelands, rules over his sons with as firm a hand as he rules a realm where power-hungry shifters don’t hesitate to start wars.
The chore, however, takes an unexpected turn for Maikel when he meets Celly Ileos. Second-born like he is, quick-witted and rebellious, she captures both Maikel’s interest and his dragon’s—even though she’s a phoenix.
Celly doesn’t mind seeing her older brother take power like he was always destined to. However, she does mind that he’s already trying to use her as a pawn in his power games, intending to strengthen their clan through her marriage to one of his allies. Her heart is her own, and she wants to choose her own mate.
But if that mate happens to be a dragon prince, will she be strong enough to endure the fire of disapproval raging from his family and her own?

Kallysten is a writer of romance novels and short stories, most of them with paranormal elements.
Her first eBooks were published by Linden Bay Romance in 2005. The defunct Venus Press subsequently published a few of her short stories. Because so many of her stories are linked as series and part of the same universe, she decided it would make sense to have them all in the same place, which is why she self-published, first with the co-op Alinar Publishing and now on her own. When she sees calls for submissions that speak to her muse, she sometimes tries for them, and was published this way by Samhain and Torquere.
Mated: A Phoenix and Dragon Shifter Romance Firelands Wars, Book 1
I Picked Up This Book Because: I wanted something short between larger books
The Characters:
Celly Ileos: Maikel Argonis:
The Story:
Meet cute and love at first flight. Celly and Maikel come together at the ceremony to pass the clan power of her family from her mother to her brother. Maikel, a dragon, is in attendance with his father who is the king of The Firelands. Brother dear challenges Celly’s mating as he has other plans for the King and his lineage. However Celly and Maikel don’t care, they will do whatever it takes to be together.
This was an enjoyable story, quick but satisfying.
I read book 2 about the youngest dragon brother Glenn first. I decided that I liked that story so much that I wanted more, so I picked up the first one. Maikel is the middle brother. He is the peacemaker between Glenn and his father the king and oldest brother. They have come to the Phoenix lands to watch the leader of the phoenix hand over power to her son. Celly is the daughter of the current phoenix leader. Her brother is about to take over. The problem is that he now thinks that he can rule her life and tell her who she will marry. Celly is a very independent and stubborn woman. Maikel and Celly must overcome prejudices to be together. Dragon and phoenix were enemies three centuries ago so no one believes they could be mates except her mother and father. I am thrilled about reading books in this world. I hope more books are written about the Firelands. If you like reading about dragons or phoenixes then I encourage you to read these books.
For some reason I expected this book to be somewhat fairytale-ish. But it really wasn't. The H/h were real people with real-world (or at least their real world) family and political problems. The author paced it perfectly--no runaway freight-trains here! I smiled when I recognized the family dynamic of Maikel--a 'middle' child like me. I also loved how Celly was an independent-thinking woman who did not knuckle under to her overbearing brother but still managed to respect and honor her family's place in their society. Readers are able to empathize with the predicaments the H/h are thrust into and wonder how it will all work out. We get a satisfying and entertaining romance, without a cliff-hanger--well worth our time. I look forward to reading more stories taking place in their world!
A Nice but quick story, great for a nighttime read before bed. The story is based on Celly who is a Phoenix shifter and Maikel who is a dragon shifter. Two completely different species at War/discord for hundreds of years. The two meet when Celly`s brother is to ascend to head of the family, and out during a ride one day they go from kind acquaintances to more within a short period of time, though they are told that there can be nothing between them due to Their Races. Celly is challenged by her brother to prove they are True Mates and if she fails he would use the excuse for war. The story has a sweet Disposition, features betrayal by those who are held dear and triumph over those who wish too keep them apart.
Dragons and Phoenix – Match – Not necessarily made in Heaven!!
A shift in power for the phoenix clan requires dragon Maikel to attend the crowning ceremony. Celly does not begrudge her brother his crown, but she does take offense at his using her as a pawn in his quest for power. When these two meet and find they are like-minded and actually mates things literally heat up as Celly must endure a trial by fire to prove her love.
Exciting, emotional read which I definitely recommend!
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
Celly is a princess who is also a Phoenix shifter. Her mother after a long successful rein is ready to turn over leadership to her son who is way more ambitious than anyone thought and was set on marrying his sister off to strengthen ties to their allies. Celly is not having any of it and complicates matters when she meets her true mate, Mikael, a prince who happens to be a dragon shifter. His family is none to happy about the match either. All their choices are impossible. How will they prevail against all odds?
This felt like the beginning of their journey. An interesting story and I enjoyed it but for it to finish just suddenly n knowing the next book is not about them but about his brother Glenn. This leaves me feeling unsatisfied n not wanting to read the next one if it develops just the same. But I did enjoy the character n wanted for developed relationship beyond the challenge be included.
Wow, just wow. I really enjoyed the way the author, intertwined the two species of shifters. Creating a very well written and thought out love story. Now on to book 2. I can't wait to read what happens next. See you then.
Couldn't get into it. Slow and boring from the very beginning. I lost interest at chapter 2 and couldn't torture myself to read any further. So glad I have kindle unlimited so I don't feel it's a total loss. 😴
Enjoyable story that had the potential to be so much more than what it is. I truly wish that the story would of contained more substance and about 100 more pages.
I enjoyed this book. I have read books by this author before & this one didn't disappoint. Well written & will be reading more of this author's books. Thanks.
