History runs deep.
Love runs fast.
And Avery Greene . . .
runs the hell away.

Left with scraps from several broken relationships, carpenter Avery Greene builds herself a safe and steady life in Upstate New York.

No love.
No loss.
No problem.

But when she makes a jarring discovery in her grandmother’s attic, it cracks her stable life at its vulnerable foundation.
In search of a permanent fix, Avery finds herself at the Sea Springs Inn, a bed and breakfast in the Outer Banks—where the rip currents roll, sand dunes shift, and her strikingly gorgeous hostess throws her plans completely off course.

Embarking on a new journey doesn’t come without squalls, and just as Avery adapts to her surroundings and the possibility of love, a violent storm strikes the North Carolina coast. Will the fear of heartbreak keep Avery anchored to the same, drawn-out plans? Or will she revise her design, remodel her heart, and finally add love to life’s blueprint?

I've been a hopeless romantic since I was a kid--shout out to Princess Jasmine. Even before I could read, I would make up my own stories about girls loving girls secretly in my bedroom, and tell them to my childhood pets (cats make the best betas).

My passion for happy endings is even stronger now. I love writing them, and I REALLY love reading them. For me, there's nothing better than curling up on the couch with a fresh cup of coffee and my cats, and falling in love with a really great romance book.

Happy Reading!

Character Crush no 13!

You know a book is good when one of the main characters makes you create a whole new shelf for all of the fictional characters you wish you were dating. As much as I liked Avery in this book, which is a lot, I would have shipped her ass off to Siberia in a heartbeat if it meant I had a shot with Olivia.

This woman is hot and she knows it. In fact no one knows it more than poor Avery who forgets how to act like a functioning human being around her. Not that I can blame her because Olivia flirts like nobody's business which often results in some very funny situations.

That's another great element I wasn't expecting. There is a lot of humor in the book ranging from slapstick to hilarious banter. The terrific cast of secondary characters play a large part in creating these laugh out loud moments, so maybe be careful when reading and drinking liquids at the same time.

The book also managed to get me choked up on several occasions. There are some very emotional and beautiful passages written in italic in the book that broke my heart and made it skip a beat at the same time.

The only minor issues I had were that some moments were a little drawn out and the story began to drag a little once or twice. Aside from that I wasn't a fan of Avery's pushy best friend in the beginning and the tertiary character introduced towards the end of the book who was a cause for conflict, felt a little over the top.

This book is truly beautifully written with a great balance between humor, seduction, heartache and some very.. VERY hot sex scenes (courtesy of Olivia being a 'talker'). I absolutely recommend reading this. Overall rating is a 4,5*

After reading Jules' then Alexis' reviews, I became extremely curious + an overprotective mamacita. Who was this Olivia everyone was talking about and was she good enough for my fellow Lesfic warriors. When I met her at page 47...

Cue in -
I've got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it's cold outside I've got the month of May
Well I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl)

Followed by

Well I found a woman,
Stronger than anyone I know
She shares my dreams, I hope that someday I'll share her home
I found a love, to carry more than just my secrets
To carry love, to carry children of our own.

The unimaginable happened..I became one the seagulls in Finding Nemo, screaming "mine, mine, mine" as I fell head over heels for Olivia Collins and now plotting on how to get rid of the competitors.

As a beach whOπ£, I couldn't be happier to read a love story set in North Carolina's beach as my 7Oth book read for this year and what. a. book.

I love an author who can craft a pretty sentence. Time and time again throughout the book, I kept stopping to admire an especially nice one and would even read it aloud so I could hear the sound of it too. She’s really good. Not an elaborate story, a simple quest/road trip to solve a family mystery involving the main character’s grandmother who died still at odds with her granddaughter over her sexuality.

Avery travels to North Carolina, planning to confront the elderly owner of a B&B, her grandmother’s secret, but instead meets the very intriguing and beautiful new owner, Olivia. This is about the slowest slow burn I have ever read which made it both achingly sweet and frustrating. Both mains as well as the supporting characters are great. Could tell the author has a genuine love for wildlife and the outdoors because there is much detail and affection for the surroundings. It’s a really warm hearted book and I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed myself with this slow burn romance from talented new author Amanda Kayhart.

Running the Tides may not be much different from other lesfic romances, the plot follows a well-trotted pattern we all recognize (including the classic 80% break up drama-rama). What made this one stand out (at least for me) was the delicious sexy flirty goodness that was Olivia. I like it when both characters spend a lot of time together and yes, the book felt it lost focus a few times but nothing too heavy.

So lots of flirting, very hot sexy times, loveable characters, humor, family secrets and a daddy you want to drop-kick into next week but overall it had a nice balance. All romance readers need to add this one to their collection. Feed our Indie authors so they are inspired to write more.

f/f explicit

Themes: B&B, the Atlantic, secrets from the past, nana was a bit of a dark horse, Olivia is a talker in bed, family expectations.

I was pleasantly surprised with this one as it was my first read by this author so I had no expectations. Story flows very nicely and is entertaining..

oh I have to mention that Olivia, one of the main characters is probably why I stretched it to 4 :) the woman is SEXY !

my only issue is it could’ve been a bit shorter as I found myself skimming through a bit but it’s a solid 4 for me ..

Any character in a story that has a love of both 80's and hip hop is going to gain major points from me.

Good solid 3.5 read on this one! I think I read someone mentioning this is a new author, so colour me impressed. Ms. Kayhart did a great job on character development and keeping the plot interesting for much of the story. There are some typos and parts of the story I would have loved beefed up but easy enough to overlook. The story line wasn't exactly new, but she wrote in a way that kept my attention.

While it took me awhile to warm to Avery, I liked how she and Olivia paired, and not just in the bedroom (5/5 baby! I had to open a window!). They were different enough in their personalities to work well without being annoying. While they had an instant attraction, it was not instalove, so that made it more believable. Avery's quiet introspection merged well with Olivia's confidence, and boy am I a sucker for a confident, beautiful, femme lady. Also, I liked that the author gave Olivia some skeletons in her closet, because even though we only get a glimpse of her past, we see the changes and choices she made to have a more fulfilling life. Had that not happened, she would be too perfect, and who wants that?

Interestingly enough, the premise of the book is somewhat on the back burner. I found myself forgetting about the entire reason Avery went to North Carolina in the first place, that's how focused I was on the main couple and their budding relationship. However, Avery's internal monologues of declarations of utter love and devotion to Olivia were overdone. So many descriptions along the lines of the stars falling and tides colliding and moving mountains and running the desert and waiting her whole life to be with her became tiresome.

Secondary characters were on point, namely Avery's mom, her beautiful relationship with her late grandfather, Giles and Val. Though an absolute horrible character was Skylar....seriously, do "best friends" like that exist? She was awful to Avery, selfish, hypocritical, and had no issues at all making fun of her pain (that scene on the football field with the ape noises? I had a broken heart AND an anger ball inside.) Anyone here a Clue fan? The best movie moment of all time which is the flame scene with Mrs. White? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92Ikd...

This very accurately describes how I feel about Skylar. She deserves to be on a boat to nowhere with nothing but Nickelback to listen to.

If you are a Clue fan, please friend me for life.

This is written in first person, which I know annoys a lot of readers, but is actually one of my favorite POVs when it’s done well, as it is here. I really liked this MC and loved her relationships with her friends, mother, and Olivia. Using first person, the author does a great job of letting us care about Avery and the people in her world.

Overall, I really enjoyed this even though it felt a bit long-winded at some points. I wanted to (and sometimes did) skim paragraphs because they either felt a bit redundant or were unnecessary to the storyline. The writing is still solid, though, and the characters are wonderful and their chemistry jumps off the pages.

We have two sweet, flawed MCs here that I was really happy spending time with and I can’t wait to find out who else is living in this author’s head.

A beautiful love story.

I enjoyed the themes about family; parents and grandparents and how we all grow up learning to understand them as infallible humans while trying to manage their profound effect on us even well into adulthood.

I found it touching and cathartic to see the characters trying to come to terms with what family and society thinks you should be and how that approval can wreak havoc.

It definitely gave me a lot of pause and thought beyond just the sappy romance.

This started out so promising and then it just meandered around until I lost all interest and skimmed the last quarter just to get through it and see just how the inevitable Big Misunderstanding would shake out. On the good side, the Big Misunderstanding wasn't the one I was expecting it to be. On the bad side, the Big Misunderstanding was completely contrived and out of left field and was even more unnecessary than Big Misunderstandings tend to be.

I liked Avery and Olivia and they were pretty cute while they were crushing on each other. There's a nice slow burn to their relationship too, so they didn't just fall into lust and actually spent time with each other and got to know each other. The whole thing with Avery's grandmother was pretty predictable, but it didn't quite play out the way I expected (see above re: Big Misunderstanding).

But...

The writing was wordy, and there were many incorrect word usages throughout. Most of them I was able to figure out, but I'm still trying to figure out what "edit my jeans" is supposed to mean.

Avery drives from upstate New York to North Carolina without apparently taking a break, and she somehow manages to get to NC in time for Val to tell her that the owner will be back "in the afternoon". ... It's at least a twelve hour drive. Avery left after breakfast, and she's driving a pickup truck not a black '67 Chevy Impala, so I know her truck doesn't have wormhole technology. ;) There's no way she got there before nighttime.

Minor spoilers:

And there's more, but that's the point where my interest started to wane and by about 65% I just really couldn't take it anymore. By 75% I was skimming and looking for relevant parts. The Big Misunderstanding was shortly after that and so completely stupid that it was hardly worth the time it took to skim it.

*sigh* I want to find good F/F books to read but every one I pick up is either just okay or less than stellar. Why is it so hard?

“Running the Tides” is terrific: great story, great writing, great narration!

MC Olivia is a freckled redhead. Oh my….could she be more perfect? MC Avery is quite the erudite carpenter! After 8hrs 45min Avery finally gets Olivia naked, and “Edacious” is what she shares with us? 🤣😁

I also liked the quote “don’t let a woman off easy; get her off easy!!

No time for a longer review; wayyy behind and the year end is fast approaching! 5*

Great book. The characters are what sells this story. I loved both of them. Honestly, the storyline itself wasn’t all that exciting to me. I had high hopes because of the premise, but felt a little letdown. That being said, the two mains could be plopped down anywhere and I would still read about them. This book is a great example of how to write chemistry between the leads

The conflict with Olivia’s dad was rife with miscommunication. Their conversation should have went something like this:

“Where are you going? I want to be with you, and not be a lawyer.”

“Oh, never mind then. I’ll stay. Let’s get naked.”

3.5 stars, a newer author, found this for free on kindle, normally those kinds of books are hit or miss. This was definitely a hit, a slow burn romance that deals with homophobia, family expectations, and finding your way after a bad romance. I liked this book and look forward to the upcoming new book by this author.

Sometimes I found myself getting lost in the beautiful prose of this book. It’s deliciously written. It’s a blend of easy reading with words I had to look up to understand. My perfect combination; a book that relaxes and teaches me.

The story line was a slow burn romance (if anything a little too slow - we all knew it would happen). I was concerned when it fell into the trope of Bury your Gays (metaphorically speaking) however the writing style for me more than made up for the story.

Avery and Olivia are normal human beings, with defects and virtues, no extreme perfection in them, nor eternal mental torment and remorse for past mistakes, and just THAT makes it much more different than what I normally read and it's totally refreshing. I really couldn't care less about the reason why Avery had to go to the Sea Springs Inn. I mean, I get it, that's the cause for their meeting, but for me it was background noise. The chemistry between them, their flirtation, the silly pretext for them to spend more time together, that was what got me and kept me reading.

Avery's mom is a magnificent secondary character, the author gives you enough details for you to love her, but at the same time she doesn't dominate the story, she is there, you don't forget that she exists, and she contributes to the development of the story but doesn't steal the limelight.

Now, while her mother was a delight, her best friend is a hole other story. Skylar is quite unpleasant, pushy and a bully, but I want to think that their friendship is one of those that you've had from a very young age. You know what I mean? You grew up with them, they weren't always like this so you have awesome memories together and now you've developed thick skin so that's why you don't get offended or take their stupid behavior so seriously, because you have years of history that serve as a cushion when she is acting like asshole.

Fantastic read

Normally I’m not one to leave reviews...but this book was amazing! I love the writing style, characters, story line...everything. There were several editing errors, but nothing too major. I was engrossed in the story, the realistic characters, and felt the emotions as the story played out. This is the first book I’ve read of hers, but I can easily say she’s now one of my new favorite writers! Can’t wait for more.

I jump on this book because of so many good reviews and I got a little disappointed.
I mean, I really like the book and the MCs too, I wish I could see more of Skylar story.
But, sometimes the book gets so deep in Avery's head that it got a little boring.
I also was expecting to be more hot and they got too long to get together, and I was getting anxious.
But it's a good book, I hope to see more works from this author.

A homophobic grandmother’s harsh unacceptance of Avery Greene’s sexuality introduces bitterness into Avery despite Avery’s mom’s complete acceptance and support. When her grandmother passes, in the process of helping clear out the house Avery comes across letters – love letters – spanning decades from a lady to her grandmother. With only an address, which turns out to be a B&B, Sea Springs Inn, in North Carolina, Avery is pushed by her BFF to find the letter-writer and unearth more about her grandmom. When she reaches there, Avery finds that Sea Spings Inn is being run by one utterly gorgeous Olivia, the grand-daughter of the letter-writer. While she is unable to discuss the real reason of her visit, Avery is equally incapable of resisting the awesomeness that is Olivia.

After reading "Fire and Water" I could not resist to just read her other full length novel, too. Ot took a little longer than just one night, but not because itis any less amazing than "Fire and Water"

There is slow burn lesbian romance and there is slow burn lesbia romance but then there is romance by Amanda Kayhart. I would prefer ther to be more full length novels by her, but then it will be all the more rewarding to wait for and then read the next.

There is so much more than just romance with her, a lot is about dealing with pain (loss?), difficult pasts, fears, family and other things needing personal development. All of that reads very authentic and life like. And - of course - her writting is absolutely gripping, hard to put down. Again I was rooting for both main characters from the moment they appeared.

Lesbian romance at its best!

This book is cozy, emotional, sexy and makes you smile
The slow burn, was really killing me at the first half, I love both MC and their personality.
However, I hope there would be more angst and I can see more about the backstory between Liv and her dad's argument at the end, what's her decision? How she dealt with it? What's going on inside her head? That's why I give the book 4.25 stars, the middle of the book is a little bit boring but the writer's writing is so beautiful, couldn't put down this book.

Hmmmm ok just....ok

So this book was ok nothing special to me and not because of situation first it was the characters I couldn't get a real good fix on who avery was and what she even looked like in my minds eye and I really need that when reading from the main characters point of view. Next i felt the timeline and circumstances were way off we should have had more ground work on everybody's background, the mother, grandmother, grandfather, skylar the best friend, val and giles, olivia and her father. I mean the book was just not cohesive, I knew some but nothing at all about none of these characters which made it very hard to follow this story. I just needed way more...it was ok

I lost interest in this book as soon as the trip to NC was done in mere hours. The characters of Olivia and Avery’s mother are ok. I thought I would really like this book, the story sounded interesting, the grandmother’s hidden romance with another woman, etc. i found Avery to be dull, indecisive, boring. The book is very wordy. Pages of description to a simple be
breakfast menu. I skipped thru most of it hoping something would catch my attention, but it didn’t. Definitely do not recommend.

I genuinely loved this book. The simmering relationship between Avery and Olivia were sensually described. Some of the phrases used to describe the environment were inspired. I could almost feel the heat and the storms and the crackling intensity between the characters. Beautiful writing from an author I'd not heard of before.
