Called from Beyond
The Spirit Guide: Ghosts and Haunted Houses
By: Caroline Clark
Narrated by: Jennifer Gilmour
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
This is a pretty spooky book about evil spirits and ghosts. A good haunting, or rather a bad one! Good plot, interesting characters, and even spirit guides ( one is a sweet dog!).
Suspenseful, thrills, and ghosts...great book! Even a touch of romance.
The narrator was good, thick British accent that was different for this Yank but this was the second book I have listened to by her and I getting used to it!

What's not to like when you have a Oiuja board, a ghostly apparition (the woman in white, a couple of seances and a possible haunting? Mark and Alissa leave their friend's new (haunted) home after a wonderful dinner. When a woman dressed in white appears in the middle of the road, Mark is forced to crash instead of hitting her. Tragedy ensues and Mark blames himself for what happens.

Their friends, Jessie and Gail, have experience with spirits and try to figure out what has happened. Meanwhile, Mark finds himself seeing and hearing things that can't be real. Is he losing his mind? Or, has Alissa come back to haunt him?

If you enjoy ghost stories, this is a pretty good one. I didn't realize that this was the second book in a series and I wish that I had read the first one before this one, but the author does a pretty good job with detailing what transpired to make Jessie and Gail think that they can get rid of the malevolent spirit causing all the problems.

The author does a great job with building tension throughout the characters' encounters with beings from another realm. The narrator, Jennifer Gilmour, is perfect for this book and added a lot to my listening enjoyment. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the author/narrator/publisher and chose to review it.

I didn't realise this was book 2 of a series before starting it. It can be read as a stand alone, though there is references to something that happened in the previous book that made me wish I had read it before this one!!

Mark and Alissa are on their way home from their friend Jessies' house when they see a woman on the road. The car isn't able to stop in time and they crash. Alissa is killed and Mark is inconsolable as he wanted to propose to her that night! Not many believe him that a woman in white suddenly appeared and that's what caused the crash. His friend Jessie and his girlfriend Gail do however. Jessie used to be able to see ghosts when he was young but seemed to have lost the ability growing up. Something happened to Gail and she has been able to see ghosts since. Gail goes to investigate the site and tries to help Mark through his grief. Mark decides to use a Ouija board to contact his dead girlfriend when he is on his own, but ends up calling something more sinister. Can Gail and Jessie help Mark before it's too late?

The plot of this was a slow burner, but the author managed to keep the tension and creepiness at a high level throughout. As the story starts unfolding, you feel so much for Mark and all that he lost. His grief felt so real and I can only imagine what he was going through. As he starts to think about using the board, I was saying to myself.. don't Mark, nothing good can come from it!! Lol.

The author has created some characters that are easy to like and connect with. Mark is awesome and all I wanted to do was give him a hug. Jessie and Gail were great characters too. Jessie is trying to see if he can get his gift back all the while Gail is trying to figure out how to handle hers. Between them they make a good team!! I really need to read the first book to see what happened them. All of the characters were well written and developed.

In all, this was a good read. It's creepy, has great characters and was interesting. I look forward to more from this author.

Jennifer Gilmour was easy to listen to and had a nice clear accent. She had subtle differences for the characters and was able to give them their own tone. I thoroughly enjoyed her performance.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Such a creepy and fun read! There is some heartbreak in the beginning where we learn how the love of his life is dead and the best friends are left behind as well. They all try to contact the dead and have some major consequences with it. Things just get super creepy and sh** goes down. You will certainly feel goosebumps as you read this story!

An amazing story of lost love. Mark’s love is killed in a car crash before he can tell her how much he loves her. Once you start this story, impossible to put down until you get to the end and find out what happens. Received an ARC.

I listened to book 3 first and really enjoyed it. I actually enjoyed it more then this book but then again usually the books do tend to get better as you go through a series. I am not saying that this book is bad in anyway. I did really enjoy it at well. Caroline Clark has done a great job with this book and this series. Jennifer Gilmour narrates the book and I loved her accent. IT really added to the story for me as it is based in the UK.

In the story Jesse was able to see ghosts as a child, but now as an adult he no longer sees them. He does have several spirit guides who show up to help him through trials in life. Gail is Jesse's girlfriend. She was a non believer until the ghosts healed her and brought her back from the brink of death, oh and now she is able to see spirits. Jesse ad Gail decide to open a Paranormal business to free stuck spirits and to help people being haunted.

Mark and Alissa are good friends of Jesse and Gail. One night after an evening together at Jesse's house Mark and Alissa gt into a terrible car accident. Alissa is killed. Mark swears a lady in white stepped into the road and he swerved to miss her. This is how the accident happened.

Jesse and Gail try to help Mark with his grieving. At first he just wants to be alone. He buys and Ouija Board to try and contact Alissa. The trouble starts when it is not Alissa he makes contact with but another spirit pretending to be Alissa, He receives Facebook messages and texts from Alissa's account wanting him to join her.

Jesse and Gail step in to help him get rid of the spirit if it isn't too late.

I can't wait to get the rest of this series. I love books featuring ghosts.

The Spirit Guide

This is the best book that I have read of Caroline's so far. It had the same characters from a previous book and it felt more real because of it.
The book centres on Mark and Alissa, who are best friends to Jesse and Gail. Due to a previous haunted house encounter and helping ghosts move on, Gail not only sees spirits, she was also healed.
After spending an evening with Gail and Jesse, Mark and Alissa are driving to their hotel when an apparition in the road causes a catastrophic car crash.
On the drive home from the funeral Mark overhears Gail and Jesse talking about Gail now being a sensitive and Jesse's thoughts on doing a seance or use a Ouija board to make contact to ease Mark's mind.
After a drunken period, Mark purchases and then uses the board to make contact. As he feels it hasn't worked, he forgets everything that he knows about the dangers of not closing off with dia consequences. You will need to read the book for the rest.
As the book is based on the present day, it feels that it has more of the human touch and due to the closeness of the couples, emotions run high.
I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait to read more of Caroline's books and also to look out for more from Jesse and Gail in the future

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I had previously read Caroline Clark’s work (The Haunting of RedRise House) so I was excited to read another of her Haunting tales. Most people have heard the story of The Woman in White and this story explores this in a heartbreaking way when Mark loses his partner in a tragic car accident. It follows Mark’s emotional struggle and desperation to reach out to his lost love after the accident and also follows his close friends Jesse and Gail who have previous experience with spirits and for this reason there are many mentions of a previous book (The Haunting of Seafield House). I found myself wanting to read that one now to learn some more back story about Jesse and Gail but it’s not necessary to read that one in order to enjoy this title.

Called From Beyond: The Spirit Guide: Ghosts and Haunted Houses .....

I love books about the supernatural, it's something I do believe in but would love to see actual proof for myself! Reading books that are based on true stories are the nearest I've come to ever seeing anything supernatural and even reading books that are not based on any true stories, I can imagine they could quite easily be real (some of them at least?) This is one of those books that make it very easy to believe, trapped souls unable to move on and finally rest in peace because for whatever reason, they have unfinished business? Really interesting reading, great characters, great storyline in what could easily be anyone's nearby town or countryside? Loved it! ;-))

I should have known since this is a Caroline Clark book that Jessie from The Black Eyed Children would be in this book also--it was great to find him here.

I realize that there are at least one book that I should have read before this one and I will go back and read it.

I have heard about the Woman In White and I have heard different versions of the story it has always interested me.

The story grabbed my attention from the start and did not let me go.

I love Caroline Clarks books and I hope you will too.

MY FAVORITE OF MS. CLARK’S NOVELS

This novel was so enjoyable to read! I’ve read several of her novels & like this one the best so far. The plot was thrilling & scary. The characters were likeable, and I was able to relate to them.
The writing was well-crafted and there weren’t too many typos & grammatical errors. The editor did a good job of proofing.
While reading this book in the dark, it was difficult not to hear things that go “bump” in the night.
For readers who enjoy a scary story of hauntings, this novel is well worth reading!

A good creepy ghost book. I enjoy the author's writing and would like to read more ghostly books by her. The first chapter was very interesting and tragic. The characters are likeable, realistic, and could be your friends. The story is set in modern times, actually in July of next year (2018). If you like books or movies with scary ghosts, check this story out. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

BETTER SECOND TIME AROUND.

Thinking this second book by Caroline Clark wouldn't live up to her first one in this series, well how wrong was I. It's a great creepy story very well told that keeps you engrossed and turning its pages to see what happens next, and boy is there a lot happening. To tell more would only spoil it for its readers, so I'll take my leave by simply saying, buy it, you won't be disappointed.

A well constructed ghost story

This was a well written tale of lost love with a supernatural backdrop. The religious imagery was not to my taste but it did not detract from my enjoyment of the book. I prefer it when my ghosts are despatched by science rather than religious mumbo jumbo but, hey ho, it was a good story.

Good storyline

I would add a star if the writer didn't have characters repeat themselves in thought and actions. A little more substance and less filler. Also to see these characters grow I am looking forward to. Maybe the next book in the series will be better. This writer has talent.

Caroline Clark has written a magnificent story about love lost in a horrific accident. Reaching out to beg forgiveness, unleashes despicable spirits into their lives. Three friends must fight to keep their friendship intact.

Good but could use some editing.

The character Mark drinks his grief away and every time he takes a drink the author says the same exact thing, it burned his throat and warmed his stomach.
