A selection of sketches from Monty Python's Flying Circus.. Perhaps the ultimate in TV comedy madness and absurdity, this cult series, which began in 1969, was conceived, written, and performed by Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, and Terry Jones. Its innovative and ground-breaking comedy inspired many of today's writers and performers. This audio programme features many of the legendary sketches, songs, and catchphrases, including "The Dead Parrot", "The Ministry of Silly Walks", "The Lumberjack Song", "And Now for Something Completely Different", and many more.
Graham Chapman was an English comedian, actor, writer, physician and one of the six members of the Monty Python comedy troupe. He was also the lead actor in their two narrative films, playing King Arthur in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and the title character in Monty Python's Life of Brian.
First, let's just put it out there: this is not a book. Not.
What it is is a collection of the audio of some of their greatest sketches, including the Dead Parrot, but, sadly, omitting the Spanish Inquisition. sigh
But, in the times of quarantine, this is such a relief to listen to, I'm grateful.
'Nuff said.
Enjoy, if you're old enough. If you're too young, go to YouTube or anywhere else you might be able to find enough to school your youthful ass. British comedy is far superior to that of the USA, I'm sorry to say.
I will never get tired of revisiting these ridiculous sketches. They are ingrained in my soul at this point as I’ve been a fan for almost 25 years now. Some of these are just audio versions of the sketches for the show, some I think may have been recorded for this record (it is indeed originally a record because I believe John says ‘end of side A’ lol) or might have been from their stage show. Classic for a reason, give them a listen!
Audio. 1 hour 9 minutes. Wild and crazy skits. My favorite was the Lumber Jack song. Unfortunately could not understand some of the audio. But what I could, was a riot.
Such a classic package of sketches, I couldn't help but laugh out loud. The dead parrot, nudge nudge wink wink, the flying sheep, all so very good! If you're a Python fan or just love comedy, I highly recommend this.
This audio is for fans only (I don’t think it will garner the group any new devotees), but for fans it’s good, silly fun. I’m in the mood to laugh lately, so this short collection of skits hit the spot. 3.5-4 stars
