High Note: A Novella

Rate this book
Love, like music, is full of highs and lows.

Jack is one of the most beloved country stars in the world. Sal is a rock pop goddess at the top of her career. Sal is heartbroken over a recent divorce and Jack’s divorce just seems like a long time coming. They’ve flirted with each other before and it was harmless fun. Now that they are both free, the flirting is definitely heating up and no longer harmless. Sal tries to be the voice of reason but Jack is funny, mischievous, smart, kind, hot, and did we mention hot?
The competition heats up for their singing contestants on the number one rated competition show High Note. Jack and Sal are competitive by nature and as Jack fights for Sal’s heart, she fights to protect it. Jack and his magic hands bring Sal to the edge of ecstasy and her concerns melt away. Will their love crumble under the pressures of their failed marriages and celebrity life—or will they end on a high note?

Jen Luerssen grew up in New Jersey and then lived for 20 years in the San Francisco Bay area. She has held various jobs in her adult life. Some examples are nanny, waitress, receptionist, dispatcher, caterer and finally teacher. She spent the past 8 years teaching 4th and 5th graders, until last year when she felt the call to write. It’s been plaguing her thoughts and dreams for years, and those thoughts finally fought their way out.

Jen loves to read, obsessively. She has an unhealthy attachment to her e-reader and is rarely seen without it. She’ll read anything, but especially loves a good smutty or a post-apocalyptic young adult book.

After “retiring” from teaching, Jen sat down and wrote a book and it was the most fun she’s ever had working. She is self-published even though she’s not sure how it works and hopes that people like her stories.

Jen is back in her native New Jersey and lives with her husband and daughter, enjoying suburban life.

I don't know if I found this novella so one-dimensional because of my book slump or if it was really that bad. In the beginning, I felt like I had missed about 10 chapters as the story just sort of starts. It was awkward and unrealistic with the MCs claiming to "love" each other even though they've both been married to other people the entire time they've known each other. There was no explanation as to why they loved each other, just that they did and could now finally be together. Blagh. Felt too much like cheating, and I didn't care for it.

High Note by Jen Luerssen is a sexy, naughty little tale of love in the music industry. Sal is a successful pop artist who caught her husband cheating. Now recently divorced, Sal is up for some fun! Jack, a country artist who's industry marriage fell apart, has always had eyes for Sal. Both single and ready to rock a trailer or two.

I loved this fun romp into the world of a music industry TV contest. Sal was sexy and confidant without a worry. Jack was the perfect mix of hunk, ego and charm. I needed a quick, overly sexy read to remember how much fun novella's can be! 5 "Thumbs" stars for High Note by Jen Luerssen

Cliched and boring. Didn’t enjoy the author’s style either. Even for a story this length, author needs to ‘show, not tell’.
