When the black rain began to fall, it was a worldwide phenomenon that mystified everyone. Unfortunately, there was little time to ponder the cause. Most animals died at the onset. Others in the reptilian category merely changed. While some humans were unaffected, others experienced a half-death of sorts, morphing into blood and flesh-crazed creatures with a desire only to hunt the living and consume them. Climbing Fox Wattana of the Henomawi Nation claims responsibility for the black rain and its effects; He says it is his revenge against the United States government for robbing his people of their land, ensuring their ultimate extinction. Cole "CB" Baxter isn't taking this lying down. He, his sister, Lilly, and Dr. Georgina Lake will flee their airboat tour business in the Florida Everglades and attempt to rescue what family they can. If that all works out, they plan to follow the ham radio broadcasts of a classic rock DJ named Micky Rode, as he guides the survivors to a gathering spot somewhere in Kansas. That's the plan, anyway. But you know what they We make plans ... God laughs.

The Scabs Trilogy in my rearview mirror, and Dead Hunger long finished, I introduce Emma's Rose: The Cave! It's my new ZOMBIE series.

It has been a while since I delved into the zombie world. I really enjoyed writing the Scabs Series, but something was pulling me . Perhaps they were dead arms, peeling and gray, reaching for flesh. My flesh.

As usual my stories are character driven. Emma's Rose is no exception. I hope you enjoy the whole new cast of characters, and the new adventure, along with the new zombies.

A HUGE thanks to all of you who have read any of my work.

Now ... about me.

Eric A. Shelman was born in 1960 in Fort Worth, Texas. He now lives in Cape Coral, Florida with his wife of thirty years, Linda.

Life is good. But it takes hard work.

This was a FUN zombie book. Had humour, horror and gross things all thrown together. I liked the characters and the dialogue was great.

Welcome to the end of the world . What do you do when a mysterious black rain starts to fall and wipes out most of the animal population and the other half well turn into zombies . Yes I said zombies . Along with some of the human population . You would probably freak and try and find your family . That's is what CB Baxter , his sister Lily and dr Georgina Lake do , After fleeing to Florida to look for them . Then head out Kansas to meet other survivors . But you know the best laid plans always end up being destroyed . Will they survive long enough to get to Kansas and figure out why Fox Wattana did what he did .

The author has created some complex characters . CB is a manly man and wants to find his family and get them to safety. His humor through out the book is a fun read . You get to see what is going on through his eyes and it is great to read .He is sometimes a little clumsy but over all he is a great guy that is trying to survive. Georgina is the no nonsense doctor and lilly is the lets call her the femme fatale , she is dainty but when comes down to it she can kick butt if she needs to be. The other characters in the book are the zombie gators . They are such a great twist on the zombies .
For a debut novel the author takes us on a roller coaster ride . The black rain twist on brining on the apocalypse is a new theme to me . I really like it. Now the zombie gators had me giggling who knew . I already thought they were dinosaurs who knew they could be turned into zombies . I guess the author did . Yeah I know you are going to say but its a zombie book, dead humans and blah blah blah . I am going to tell you that this is a really good read . I laughed and cried and well honestly did put the book down a couple of times because well was feeling just a little queasy . This book had it all I can't wait to read book 2 when it comes out . So if you want a cool twist on the zompoc check out this book

I laughed…I cried…I gagged just a little, OK a lot but most of all I was highly entertained by this debut novel by up and coming new author Damon Novak. With his unique style of writing, I was mesmerized by the story. I felt as if Cole, better known as CB, was actually sitting down with a cold beer telling me the story about the day the black rain fell and what happened afterwards when the shtf. The characters are all very likeable and I ended up feeling a bond forming with them as they came together as one to figure out a way to stay alive from the humans who were coming back to life and also from the alligators in the Everglades where the story mostly takes place. Yes! I said alligators. As if an alligator wasn’t friggin” scary enough, after the rains came? They too turned into vicious, man eating, dead zombie creatures right along with their human counterparts! Yeah…this book has it all! Everything you could possibly want in a zombie story and then some! I can’t recommend this story highly enough! It is one of those books where you finish it and it stays playing in your head for quite a while afterwards. You know that is a good one if that happens! So…do yourself a favor and grab a copy. I know you won’t be disappointed. Kudos Damon Novak on a well written…highly entertaining and action-packed story! I am so looking forward to book two in this series.

Brilliant

Wow! What an amazing start to a new refreshing series
I thought this book was amazing, well written with great characters. Congratulations Damon Novak!
Living in South Florida I appreciate the detail. The series starts off with Black rain engulfing the entire world causing humans to turn into flesh eating crazies, animals to die but also turning reptiles like gators into zombie man hunters.
This book is totally character driven, you can't help but laugh, cheer and he'll throughout this book.
Get to Amazon and start reading you will absolutely not want to put this book down!

A very fun read, plenty of action and solid characters

A very fun read, plenty of action and solid characters. The writing is straight and to the point, well written, with enough descriptions without bogging down the story. While I'm not from Florida, as a southerner, I appreciate the writer's treatment of the South and customs. Will definitely read the rest of the series.

A side note. Without revealing a spoiler, I am not yet sold on the premise of what caused the Zombie Apocalypse to start. I will hold off judgement on that until more is revealed in the series. Still, the quality of the rest of the story outweighs that small issue.

I listened to the Audible version of this book. This book was captivating and a lot of fun to listen to. The reader bonds quickly with the characters and cares what happens to them. The main character of the story is CB, a Florida swamp tour boat operator. The narrator does a great job representing CB. I think that the audiobook is absolutely the best way to experience this book. There is lots of horror, action and adventure. I am hoping there will be a second book. I would caution a reader who is not comfortable with F bombs and gore that this may not be the book for them; but then why would they be reading zombie fiction?

This is the debut novel from a definite up and coming author. The book is an emotionally charged and character driven story of survival in Florida when black rain turns people and gators into zombie killing machines. The addition of zombie gators is a brilliant and unique way to up the ante of the chances of survival for the living. What a roller coaster ride of emotions, I laughed, cried and hoped this group would make it. I highly recommend this first novel by Damon Novak if you enjoy the zombie/horror genre with a twist.

If you’re into zombies this one gets a thumbs up. The description and cover art do it no favors. I almost skipped it because it looked silly. It isn’t. There is a book 2 that is good as well. If you are a very political lefty you’ll probably hate a few comments in the book but it isn’t enough to ruin it. I also LOVED the sex scene that wasn’t - there is some smooching and then a line about this being a zombie book not porn so no more details. Oh for the love of all that is holy I BEG other writers to follow suit. I can’t take another badly written graphic sex scene plopped in the middle of my otherwise lovely apocalypse. I enjoyed the way the women were written in this one too - real, complete, wholly formed characters :D
Give it a go!

This book is great! I can't believe it's a debut!

All I want to know is when in 2018 in book 2 coming out? I really enjoyed this story. Zombies in the Everglades. And the gators....
There's lots of excitement and gore, yuck, but there's also places I laughed, but then Novak knows how to get you in the feels too.

This is an all around great book with a totally knew origin of the outbreak.

This was a very good story. The part of the country in which it takes place is different than most books of this genre. I also like the inclusion of zombie alligators. The characters are not superheroes with all the answers which is another appealing aspect. The main character could even be considered clumsy and not too good at making decisions, which also sets it apart from many books of the genre. If you are a zompoc fan this should definitely be on your reading list.

Black Rain¿

This is a very well written story of the zombie apocalypse. The story has a smooth steady pace. The characters a very interesting and well defined. Right from the start of the story the reader is aware of what is happening and the main characters start taking charge.
I have to add that I was given this book free of charge, that my review is uncoerced, and given voluntary. Thanks Damon, can't wait to get started on book two.

So... not only did I love this book, but I listened to it on audiobook and I love Eric A. Shelman as a narrator. I really enjoyed the way the zombie apocalypse started. Not your average government conspiracy, or attack. The books characters were well developed and interesting. I like how he started the book, then when into the past, then got back to where we began. Very well done, and I’m glad book 2 just came out. I haven’t decided if I want to wait for the audiobook. We shall see.

A thrill ride from the beginning to end

I first discovered Eric A. Shelmans work with the Dead Hunger series and rapidly devoured all 10 of them. With this book he recaptures the enjoyment I had from his previous series and compounds it. He has quite wonderfully come up with another out of the ordinary beginning for the Zpoc just as he did in Dead Hunger amd I look forward to seeing where the journey takes ke in this trilogy.

Great Start to a New take on the ZA!

Really liked the premise of the rain and a curse bringing on a zombie apocalypse. Loved the location using Florida and the cross over to animals. Like having zombies to escape from not being terrifying enough! Well written and strong characters make it an easy choice to want to read on and find out what happens next. So, hurry Damon!

I'm a big fan of the zombie genre and read lots of the books. Anyone who is knows some are good, some are okay, some are so-so, some are terrible. This was one of the good ones and well worth the read.. I'd definitely recommend it to zombie lovers. I'm getting the second one now.

An interesting take on a classic genre - no spoilers

I've given this 5* because of the originality of the storyline. A few questions unanswered, that'll be covered in book 2 due out soon.
I'll definitely be buying it. Rough and ready characters mix it up with creatures I've never read used like this before. Intrigued? Then buy the book.

New twist

To an old story. I'm glad to see a book where the red neck is the hero instead of some ignorant half wit of a thug.
The thing with the gators was a nice twist.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy zombie apocalypse books.

Zombies

A black rain fell and zombefied about everybody and creature.

I liked the characters, but it took me quite a few chapters before it became a page turner.

Be warned there is a lot of gross details and cussing.
If you are sensitive to that you might want to skip it.
