OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

This is a Lonely Planet guide and it is a company I know and I do have several books from them that I have bought over the years.

This one is for Devon and Cornwall and as I live in Cornwall I decided to look at to see how well it stands up to the area I know reasonably well. I did focus on the areas I had visited within both counties and it gives a good general representation for both counties. There are the usual tourist spots as well as some slightly out of the way places.

It is a clear and well-laid-out book that is a good size for popping in a glove box or a backpack. If used with an OS map it is definitely a helpful resource.

This is a good book, it lists loads of places that will interest almost any type of visitor to the counties. Very happy to recommend this.
