Aiden Wilson Tozer was an American evangelical pastor, speaker, writer, and editor. After coming to Christ at the age of seventeen, Tozer found his way into the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination where he served for over forty years. In 1950, he was appointed by the denomination's General Council to be the editor of "The Alliance Witness" (now "Alliance Life").

Born into poverty in western Pennsylvania in 1897, Tozer died in May 1963 a self-educated man who had taught himself what he missed in high school and college due to his home situation. Though he wrote many books, two of them, "The Pursuit of God" and "The Knowledge of the Holy" are widely considered to be classics.

A.W. Tozer and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, had seven children, six boys and one girl.

This book is an awesome explanation on who Jesus Christ is to the true believer. A.W. Tozer was a Pastor of a church in Ohio for 40 years. He was not an educated man, but he wrote dozens of books of faith. He was a Pastor, a prophet and a strong man of prayer and faith. I recommend all of his writings.

a very short book filled with some good stuff! here are my favorite quotes:

“The crucified person on the cross is looking in only one direction, and that is the direction of God and Christ and the Holy Spirit.”

“All the members of the body of Christ joined to His body share in some measure in that hypostatic union and are united with Him. When Jesus died on the cross, by faith we died on the cross. When He rose from the dead, by faith we rose from the dead. When He went to the right hand of God, by faith we went with Him.”

“You have an imaginary Christ, and if you are satisfied with an imaginary Christ, you must be satisfied with imaginary salvation.”

Concisely written

I loved that Mr. Tozer is so concise in his writings. This was to the point, brief, and yet well explained for thise who are hungry for a more clarifying sense of what it means to be truly committed to Christ.
A great companion for anyone studying theology, any christian searching to dig deeper in their walk, or new believers who may have questions on what it means to die daily to yourself and pick up your cross.
Highly recommend

Profound man of God who articulate in a way only the Holy Spirit can inspire. Excited to read more of him.

Favorite quote still true from 1900s to today:
““A new Decalogue has been adopted by some of our day, the first words of which reads, “Thou shalt not disagree,” and a new set of Beatitudes too, which begins, “Blessed are they that tolerate everything, for they shall not be made accountable for anything.” It is now the accepted thing to talk over religious differences in public with the understanding that no one will try to convert another or point out errors in his belief. Imagine Moses agreeing to take part in a panel discussion with Israel over the golden calf; or Elijah engaging in a gentlemanly dialogue with the prophets of Baal. Or try to picture Jesus seeking a meeting of minds with the Pharisees to iron out differences. The blessing of God is promised to the peacemaker, but the religious negotiator had better watch his step. Darkness and light can never be brought together by talk. Some things are not negotiable.”

Coming together with Christ

To become completely committed to Jesus Christ, you have to dig into His word and come to know who He is. With that being said, you have to fully surrender to Jesus everyday and die to your flesh to become one with Christ. Only He can make you whole and give you the life you need. This book was great! It motivated me to move closer to God and walk more by faith and not by sight. It was beautifully written and great terminology that helped me expand my vocabulary.

“We are to be joined to Jesus Christ, intelligently joined by knowing who He is. We are to be volitionally joined to Him and not try to live on our feelings, although, thank God, there will be a lot of feeling going on with it! We are to be exclusively attached, excluding everything that is contrary to Him. We are to be inclusively attached, taking in everything that He surrounds Himself with. We are to be irrevocably attached, being expendable and not going back. Are you committed to Christ?”

THE JOURNEY BEGINS WITH CHRIST ALONE.

The book brings the Christian back to the essential truth for a strong foundation in his or her walk with God—Christ alone. The understanding that, the height of his or her walk with God will depend on how deep he or she digs into the Person of Christ alone and nothing else. We are saved by faith, and faith is a Person and a Life. This is a must-read for all.
Remain in the blessings of the Father as you remain in our Lord Jesus.

This was a fantastic, short Spiritual Growth book that also included a brief biography at the end on the author's life. Highly recommended for Believers who are seeking to grow their relationship with God; also recommended for those who are tired of looking everywhere else, and are ready to seek God -- you'll find Him because He's been right there with you all along! I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.

Prayer

It wasn't that good for me I think it was a bit about life, church and not prayer. It said I believe we ought to b "suicide bombers" I read that over an over again thinking it was a misprint trying to get understanding. No understanding was given! It did have some key pointers just not enough

Commited?

So many Christians tend to go through the motions of walking with Christ because they know it is the only Way and Truth and Life (giving) walk that matters. But this book will help you examine if you are the person going through the motions of if you are really committed.

Total commitment

Tozer does not explain God, he points one to true belief in God, not of God, as God never changed; He made man and woman to serve Him for his glory, not for glory of the men and women of this world, to be satisfied of worldly things and pleasures. To know God, is to serve Him, love Him, and sacrifice for Him.

Our focus needs to be on God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit in order to be really committed to God. Putting aside what the world wants from you and only serving and walking with God is what makes you who you were created to be. Spending time with Him in prayer, reading His Word and studying it will teach you who He truly is.

If you are looking for a flowery explanation of what is required to be crucified with Christ, look for another author. This man lays the explanation out in plain English. How refreshing.

Gives precise understanding and direction; some of his phrases are at times different than more current euphemisms but doesn't take away from overall truth

Extremely Short but Extremely Powerful!

This entire book can be read in one sitting. Takes about 30 minutes, but it will stir your heart and make you determined to be crucified with Christ and dead to the world. A powerful, motivating short book.

Leave it to AW Tower to sum up what a committed Christian life looks like in only a few pages. He doesn't need more than that. It is short and gets right to the point.

Every Christian should read this short book. Tozer wrote it simply and clearly enough that the youngest one can understand yet powerful enough to totally change the way one lives if allowed to permeate the heart.
