An Uncomfortable Conversation
This will be a hard read for some. What you will read is the truthful interaction between two men. A conversation where no topic is off limit. A conversation where two different men listen, speak their truths, and learn from each other. A conversation where buttons will be pushed and ideals will be challenged. But a conversation that was needed.

First of all, I want to commend the author for his bravery in writing this book.

Although there was some social rhetoric, (I mean this as a compliment, in the ancient Greek explanation of rhetoric- when a persuasive, intelligent speaker presents an important idea.) Along with political views and even religious views I did not always agree with, the text offered no easy way out, and after awhile I really began to listen.

Honesty can be difficult to hear when you aren’t ready or willing to hear it. Sometimes it hurts and makes anyone who’s listening upset for being under a microscope for how we live, vote and treat others, it rattles us to look at what needs major revamping. But it’s needful conversation and becomes more important every day.

I found my belief system somewhere about in the middle of what both character’s reflected. What I do agree with is having an important conversation about the ills of our society without threat of violence, without fear of backlash and proceeding into a discussion we all need to have with an open mind.

My grandfather was a difficult, old-fashioned man, but he taught me one thing I never forgot. ‘Listen to their side, think about it before you react and even if you don’t agree, respect another’s opinion.’

I also have many conspiracy theories. Many I keep to myself, mainly because I believe there is danger in allowing certain people to know how you feel. The Malcolm X, Dr. King section had my mind reeling in fast-forward.

Regardless of what you know or think you know, this book is worth a read to hear another side that very often is silenced and afraid to speak out. It’s integral that we keep this conversation going, because those who don’t know their history or blindly follow the status quo- are doomed to repeat the horrific mistakes of our ancestors.

This book opens your eyes to the world around you. It will make you stop and think before you judge. It depicts both sides if race, when which one can learn from the other.

It was an excellent read from start to finish, and I couldn't put it down once I started. The conversation was diverse and resounded with things that come up in uncomfortable conversations. I found myself talking to the book at times when I felt my own thoughts coming up. It was fun, engaging, and thoughtfully put together. The characters and the message were clear, from both sides. I'll be looking forward to more from this author in the future.

I recommend it to anyone looking to be part of an open and honest conversation, whichever opinion they stand on.

What an amazing layout of a conversation between two men. I feel as though I’m sitting at the table between them. You won’t be sorry you sat down to listen to them converse back and forth on what should be the norm, unfortunately this isn’t the case.
