This collection of fiveish books is a wonderful to read. Wangerin knows how to highlight life experiences and share how they shaped his calling as a Lutheran pastor. The main complaint I have about this collection is just that… it’s a collection. I was interested in 3/5 books. The fourth and fifth books were slow and didn’t have much power to them, the other three were worth the read.

This anthology is a collection of short stories and essays by Wangerin, including "Ragman and Other Cries of Faith." For me, these are Wangerin at his best. I love his attention to detail and ability to capture my imagination with any story he tells. Wangerin takes the mundane setting of an airport terminal where he waits for his flight, and draws me into a captivating reflection on individuals and life.

This book has a devotional like quality to it for me, and it is my go to when I am feeling spiritually empty. I love the fact that there is such a variety of literature here, for all occasions. I would highly recommend.

You just need to read him for the way he writes. I love the way he uses words. I love the way he teaches truth.

individually, the ragman and the book of the dun cow get 5 stars. but this compilation of his works got bogged down by some of his essays, though still really good.
