From medical secretary to court reporter to property manager to owner of a special events decorating company, my resume reads as if I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. But one thing that has remained constant through the years is my love for writing. I currently pen fun and fast-paced inspirational romance and romantic suspense stories. My books have won several awards and been nominated for two RITA® awards and an RT Reviewers’ Choice Best Book Award.
After spending most of my life in Florida, a few years ago, I moved to the mountains of North Carolina, where I write my stories outside on the back deck in the summertime and inside in front of the fireplace in the wintertime. When I’m not writing or doing writerly things, I enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking—almost anything outdoors. My two grown daughters and grandkids live too far away for my liking, so I now pour all that nurturing into taking care of two sassy black cats.
Lethal Legacy is the second of the series that takes place in Murphy, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia involving three close friends. This is Bryce's story. Bryce Caldwell is a sheriff deputy with the Cherokee County Sheriff Office in Murphy. Andrea Wheaton has a successful career in Atlanta but her family has had a home in Murphy for four generations. Andi hasn't been to Murphy for twelve years but returned after her parents were killed in a car wreck. She is left with their assets, including a huge mansion in Atlanta and the family home in Murphy. She plans to sell the large home but she travels to Murphy to decide what she wants to do with the place that was so special to her and her dad. But she surprises two thugs in the old house when she is moving her things into the house. Bryce arrives home to see a light on in the Wheaton home and when he checks it out, he finds Andi injured. The two haven't seen each other in twelve years when things ended badly between them. But as Andi's life seems to be in danger, they put the past behind them for Andi's safety. It appears that someone wants something that they feel her dad has hidden in the house or their property. When she won't sell the house to a powerful developer, attempts are made on her life. Was her sweet dad involved in something illegal? Was it a neighbor with a grudge? Or does the developer want her place that bad that he would kill to get it? This is a fast paced suspense with danger, mystery, romance, support of friends and getting back to roots of faith long ignored. I enjoyed the first of the series as well as this one and look forward to the next book. I received a complimentary ARC from the author for an honest review. Thoughts and opinions stated are mine only. Thanks to Carol J. Post for allowing me to read Lethal Legacy.
I was in that kind of mood -- you know, where you want to happily immerse yourself in murder and mayhem from the comfort of your sleuthing armchair but you're stuck on what to read. So I shuffled through my TBR pile and when I caught sight of Carol J. Post's name on the front cover of this spine-tingler, I knew I was in store of some exciting escape time. Because this author always delivers a delectable combination of suspense and romance.
The suspense starts with subtle danger that slowly builds to something much more sinister...and potentially lethal! And the mystery Andrea finds herself in the middle of is intriguing -- in a threatening kind of way. But she stands her ground because she's that kind of stubborn and that pretty much ties Bryce up in knots. Well, truthfully, just thinking about Andrea has the power to do that! He knows he blew it a decade ago and he can't hope for anything more than forgiveness and possibly friendship...can he? I get thrills just thinking about it. I do so love a good second chance romance and this one is excellent!
And if that isn't enough of a lure, let me entice you further. There's a dog! Cooper by name, with his own unique idiosyncrasies that made me smile. Plus -- bonus -- there's a little bit of Christmas threaded into this story as well. Now doesn't that make Lethal Legacy pretty near irresistible? I certainly think so!
Lethal Legacy was a great suspense story. I was able to easily follow the storyline and enjoyed seeing the mystery unfold. I did guess easily one aspect of the story, but that didn't hinder my enjoyment.
I liked the characters and how the romance was a second chance story. The ending was sweet and I liked how it was done.
All in all, Lethal Legacy was very good and I recommend it.

Lethal Legacy was a great story! There were so many suspenseful situations that involved a lot of danger for the main character, Andrea. I was holding my breath through one of them, especially, as I read on to see how she was going to get out of it.
I thought the romance in this novel was really nicely written. I loved that Bryce and Andrea were in love as teens. It added lots of tension to portions of the story as they tried to determine if a neighborly friendship was possible between the two of them.
I had a lot of fun reading this book and enjoyed it from start to finish. It is part of a series, yet can easily be read as a stand alone novel.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
After the death of her parents, Andrea/Andi Wheaton leaves her condo, parents home and work in Atlanta to spend some time in a cabin located in Murphy, North Carolina. Her father and Andi spent time in this cabin when she was younger. After arriving there she notices her father’s office has been trashed. Who would have broken into the cabin? What were they searching for? Was there more to her parents death than meets the eye? Why as she run off the road? What secret could her father have hidden? The only security Andi feels is with a former friend, Bryce Caldwell. He is a sheriff deputy with the Cherokee County Sheriff Office in Murphy. They had a history back when they were teenagers but he had hurt her badly. Both experienced bad relationships after that leaving them both with a fear to love again. The characters were well developed, very realistic with a variety of an interesting supporting cast. The tension was thick with plenty of drama, intrigue, suspense and mystery with plenty of twists and turns. Romance and inspirational reference push there way throughout the story. The story is so well written you will feel as is you are in the midst of the action. A real page turner!! I volunteered to read Lethal Legacy. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
Second in the series—which I didn’t know was a series. Oops.
A quick read and a fun setting in the North Carolina mountains. The local touches were fun, such as going to an Ingles grocery store, but I felt that two hours from Atlanta was a very optimistic drive time! It was pleasant to find a solid sense of setting in this book
The action was pretty intense and the relationship between the two was well portrayed. It definitely kept me turning pages, though, to see if the home was going to survive the bad guys.
Post’s clear prose creates memorable images and believably complex characters in this suspenseful story. Andrea Wheaton returns to her family’s cabin in Murphy, North Carolina following the sudden death of her parents. She goes to mull over whether to keep or sell the beloved family retreat and her arrival interrupts robbers. Soon, Andrea is swept into solving the mystery of what the thugs are searching for and why. The neighbor, a police officer, offers to help, but accepting Bryce Caldwell’s help requires setting aside the unhappy ending to their past relationship.
The tense, fast-moving story blends danger and awkwardness as Andrea and Bryce battle threats and follow clues. Suspenseful on many levels, Lethal Legacy entertains and surprises from beginning to end. This is romantic suspense done right.
I love the way Carol wrote this story. In this story we meet Andrea Wheaton and her ex Bryce Caldwell. Its a story of love still there and 2nd chances. There is a sad start to the story that seems simple but turns out to be more complex. There is a mystery to solve and very few clues to work with. Plus there are things happening that make no sense. Then Andrea begins to do a discovery of self. Its a small journey that has been needed to be done for a long time. Its a great book that is well written and it takes you on a journey that is really neat. I love the way she weaves her story and draws you into the story. Its a great book and worth a read.
Confident, determined, Andrea escapes to a family cabin in Murphy, NC to catch her breath and grieve the lost of both of her parents who died in a recent car accident. But someone has broken into the cabin, and attacks Andrea as she comes through the door. Her neighbor and former boyfriend, Bryce, comes to her rescue. At first it seems like a petty break-in, but a cryptic note from Andrea's father, and continued attacks on Andrea, has Bryce and Andrea considering the possibility that Andrea's beloved father had a serious secret! Could the death of Andrea's parents have been murder? Whatever the secret is there is someone who wants to make sure Andrea doesn't live to reveal it! Another clean, entertaining, fast paced, romantic suspense story by Carol J. Post. This is the second book in the Murphy, NC series. Characters Tanner and Paige, from book one, Fatal Recall, make an appearance. Readers will enjoy the adventure, light faith and romantic elements, and devoted labrador, Cooper. I was given the opportunity to read this book by the author.
Lethal Legacy is another winner by Carol J. Post. Welcome by to Murphy, NC and catch up on characters (old friends) from previous books in the series. Remember, they can be read as a stand alone. Andrea's parents are killed in a car accident and she returns to Murphy, NC to the house that had been in the family for several generations. A place that held happy memories of times spent with her father. Her neighbor Bryce is her first love from when they were teens. He's now a Sheriff's Deputy which does come in handy when Andi's home is ransacked, torched, and attempts on her life are taken. Then there is Cooper, Bryce's dog who is still in training - enough said about Cooper.
I received this book from the author and all opinions in this review are my own. I've read other books by Carol J. Post and haven't been disappointed in any of them. Fast paced, action, romance, characters that you will like and a few you won't (after all-they are the bad guys). Surprises to catch your attention, accidents, and did I mention romance? In case you can't tell - I enjoyed this book. Highly recommend Lethal Legacy and any other books by Carol J. Post. She quickly became one of my favorite authors.
Author Post has delivered another thriller with a bit of a romantic mystery that had me wanting to know the history of these two leading characters. I really felt for Andrea Wheaton as she had absolutely no one left in her family after her parents are tragically killed. Coming home to her and her father’s favorite vacation spot, a cabin that has been in their family for generations, she gets more than she has bargained for when someone is searching for something her father left behind. The one who comes to her rescue is her first love Sheriff Bryce Caldwell who royally broke her heart when they were 18.
Bryce realizes he really messed up all those years ago and I was hooked on that story line and wondered how they would ever get back together especially since someone was really trying their hardest to kill Andrea. This was an engrossing thriller and romantic mystery that had me guessing all the way through.
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this novel. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
Quite an interesting story of suspense, intrigue, romance, and faith. Andi has a high-level position earning a big salary and then she inherits the fortune her parents leave to her after their accidental death. She had been enjoying life but the tragic loss of both parents at the same time followed by attempts on her life cause her to question everything. She is also brought back in close contact with her old boyfriend from her teen years. Both of them have so many questions that demand answers but the answers fail to come easily. The ex-boyfriend, Bryce, lives on one side of the old home that has been in her family for four generations. The neighbors on the other side are very antagonistic toward Andi. Are they trying to run her off her own land? Or does someone want her dead? What really happened to her parents? Had her father gotten into something shady or illegal that resulted in the death of him and her mother, or was their death truly an accident? Is there something of great value on her land? What part does faith play in their lives? The story has some unexpected twists and turns, for sure. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
This is the second book in the Murphy, North Carolina series, however, I was never lost or wondering what was happening. I did read the first book (which I recommend you do, too!) but Carol did a great job in making this a stand-alone book. I am a huge fan of all Carol's books and this story added to my devotion as a fan of her work.
Andrea has lost so much as both her parents have died in a car accident and now she finds herself alone and trying to cope with the fact that she will not see her parents again - leaving so much unsaid and not being able to get away to their country home in Murphy alone with her father as they did so many times throughout the years. After the funeral, she decides to retreat to this home that holds so many memories.
The peace and quiet she so longs for is interrupted by a series of horrible events that makes her question everything she thought she understood about her parent's accident and is also making her question whether she really knew the type of man her father was.
Her next door neighbor in Murphy is her old boyfriend, Bryce. He ended their relationship in a bad way and she's not excited to see him. Her father was like a father to him so he has been trying to help out in the upkeep of the Murphy home. When Andrea shows up, she tries to distance herself from this man but with all the threats coming at her, it's not always easy.
I really enjoyed the mysterious story line of this book. I'm always wondering exactly who is behind the bad situations because Carol writes a great mystery. I also like how she combines the romantic parts of the story without over-whelming the mystery part of it. I always love a mystery so I really enjoy that this is the main theme of this book.
I highly recommend this book (as I do with all Carol's books) because it's a wonderful story with characters you'll remember long after you read the last page. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
*This book was provided to me by the author. I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this book.
There are way too many books in the Love Inspired Suspense line to keep up with, but I have been reading more of them lately than I used to. This author is one reason for that. Back in November of 2016, she emailed me and asked me if I would review her new book at that time. Since then, I have reviewed a few other books, all of them suspense books in this line with the exception of one, and I have enjoyed every one.
So I was happy to get an email from her recently to review Lethal Legacy, the newest book from her. This book is the second book in a mini series by her, and follows Fatal Recall, the last book I reviewed for her.
This book launches right into the action and suspense within the first few pages, and brings back one of the characters from the previous book, Deputy Bryce Caldwell. From that point, the rest of the book is him trying to protect his next door neighbor, his ex-girlfriend, from danger from an unknown source. The book also brings back two other characters from the previous book, as they attempt to help protect their friend's attractive neighbor.
With books like these, you know the guy is going to get the girl by the end of the book. That is a given, but it is still fun reading what leads up to that point, and the author did a great job of doing that. I love suspense, and there was a ton of it in this book. The reader is kept guessing as to who is after Andrea, and why. It wasn't easy to predict what was coming next, and it did keep me on the edge of my seat as the suspense built to the great ending.
Forgiveness is a topic often dealt with in Christian fiction, and it was a topic in this book. Maybe we hear it often because we need to hear it often.
This was a great suspenseful and Christian read the author can be proud of. I am hoping she has one more book to go with these two.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Lethal Legacy is Carol J. Post‘s newest novel in her Murphy, North Carolina series. This Harlequin Love Inspired novel is full of suspense that left me on the edge of my seat.
An author who has proven herself to me time and again, Carol Post has impressed me again. Heroine Andrea Wheaton, after having lost her parents in a car crash, has the task of finding answers. After suspecting that someone wanted her father dead, Andrea launches her own investigation beginning with the family home in Murphy.
Deputy Bryce Caldwell, neighbor to the Wheaton family home, just happens to be Andrea’s high school sweetheart. With Andrea back in his life, Bryce fights his internal wish to right the wrongs and reestablish his relationship with Andrea. Her efforts at avoidance are a clear sign that his choice to wait for her to make the first move is a good one.
The interactions between characters was so natural and organic that I felt like I could drop into the scene and watch it all come into play. Carol’s ability to bring words to a mental picture is incredible. It seems clear to me that writing isn’t simply a hobby for her; it is a gift.
Additionally, plot advancement is well-paced. I found myself absorbed by the story, and before I knew it, I was turning off my Kindle because the story was finished!
If you are a Christian, you will appreciate Carol’s weaving of Christian themes. Without being preachy, Carol effortlessly inserts meaningful roots of faith that intertwine into the characters’ lives. The result feels organic.
As you can tell, I highly recommend Carol’s writing as a whole, and I most definitely suggest Lethal Legacy. If you’re looking for a new author and haven’t tried Carol Post’s novels, please do so. I believe you’ll be glad you did!
Carol's books always have a lot of action, character development and a great story line. I know when I read the first chapter that I will be hooked and have a hard time putting the book down! That is certainly the case with this current book! Each book in this series can be read as a standalone because the author doesn't "leave anything undone" in a book that you wouldn't know what was happening from book to book! Bryce is a law enforcement officer in Murphy, NC and his "lost love" was Andrea Wheaton (who was also a neighbor growing up) so imagine his surprise when he sees the lights on at the house where she used to live, one night when he's coming home from getting off duty! He's always kept an eye on the place since her parent live in Atlanta and Andrea (Andi) has long since moved away. He goes over to check it out only to discover that Andi has just been attacked and her parents recently died in a car accident! So the story begins! Things escalate from there with Andi being targeted constantly so they both know something is going on and they work together to find out what that is. It'll keep you turning the pages, I can promise you! Something had happened to break them up when they were teenagers and Andi can't get over that so it's enjoyable to see how they work through that to get back together. Andi has had a LOT of heartbreak in her life and I could certainly identify with her having a hard time trying to make decisions. I heartily recommend this book to anyone! I received this book complimentarily from the author but was under no obligation to provide a review. These opinions are my own.
The author has really done an exceptional job of writing a story that is intense and delivers an intriguing plot. I liked Andi right away. She is smart and very determined. When a tragedy happens, Andi finds herself coming back to a special place that holds memories. I loved reading about the house that Andi holds close to her heart. She feels a bit nostalgic as she decides what to do with the place.
Bryce is very easy to like. He is compassionate and I think when he sees Andi again, he can feel those emotions rising in himself. He has never forgotten her even after twelve years. When danger surrounds Andi, Bryce steps up to protect her. Why is someone trying to hurt Andi? The house and land she inherited seems to pique someone's interest. Is there something valuable on the land that is worth killing for?
The story keeps at a fast pace with unexplained accidents and danger lurking everywhere. I was very impressed with the mystery surrounding her father and wanted to encourage Andi not to give up. I liked reading about the relationship that Andi and Bryce once had. Can they rekindle their romance? Bryce has his hands full trying to keep Andi safe as someone is desperate to get her off her land. Andi's dad has left subtle hints for her to find that will help her unravel the mystery that could save her life. Can she and Bryce stay one step ahead of the people who want to harm her? With danger around every corner will they trust God to keep them safe? This is one story you don't want to miss.
I received a copy of this book from the author. The review is my own opinion.
Lethal Legacy opens with Andrea Wheaton experiencing a home invasion at the family holiday home, which she’s visiting following the death of both parents in a car accident. It soon becomes apparent that the evildoers are looking for something … and they’ll be back.
Bryce Caldwell, next-door neighbour and high-school sweetheart finds her, and her trashed house. It soon becomes apparent that Andi’s father had some secrets, which raises an obvious question: was the car wreck which killed him and Andi’s mother an accident or something more sinister?
Andi is sure it was no accident, which means she needs to find out the why—no matter how painful that might be for her personally. But she’s not expecting other people to be searching around the property as well, to the point where she might be in danger.
Lethal Legacy is published by Love Inspired Suspense, which means it’s an almost-perfect blend of romance and suspense (well, assuming you’re a romantic suspense fan like I am). It’s also a quick read, with all the focus on Andi and Bryce as they try to stay safe … and explore their feelings for each other.
Yes, I’m a big romantic suspense fan, and Lethal Legacy ticked all the genre boxes, as well as strong writing (no less than I’d expect from Carol J Post), page-turning action, and a Christian thread that enhanced the story without being preachy. Recommended for romantic suspense fans.
Thanks to the author for providing a free ebook for review.
Lethal Legacy, by Carol J. Post, brings readers to Murphy, North Carolina where we find Andrea, a high powered exec from Atlanta, on her way to check out the family cabin she inherited with her parents' untimely deaths. Upon arrival, she finds way more than she has bargained for. Break-ins, car crashes, fire and so much more. What had her father been involved in that Andi's own life is in danger? Who wants the cabin property so much they are willing to murder for it? Vengeful neighbors? Business partners? Random strangers? This author knows how to write fast-paced suspense, stories that keep the reader on the edge of the seat wondering what is coming next. And, yes, there is romance. Andi's first love from her teen years lives next door. Bryce is honorable, helpful, and handsome and yet Andi's hurts and scars run deep. Will she be able to open her heart to reconcile their relationship? And with the suspense and romance, the author has woven a subtle thread of faith that reminds readers God is not only with them for comfort and protection but for wisdom and guidance as well. If you love exciting and suspenseful mysteries, Lethal Legacy will keep you reading until the very last page. I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. A review was not required and the opinions are my own.
Lethal Legacy was a fast paced mystery that moved along quickly. The book hits the ground running with action happening almost immediately. I welcomed that approach to the telling of the story—it helped to capture my attention instantly when I started the book and quickly engaged the curious part of my mind.
I enjoyed both of the main characters of the book. Andrea is a strong, independent woman who has worked hard to get to where she is in life, but comes to realize where she is might not really be the desire of her heart. Bryce is a strong, but sweet protector who’s learned some painful things from past mistakes. I appreciated the redemption of their relationship. That being said, the character growth seems to happen fairly quickly in the story and there’s not as much time to delve as deeply into the characters as I would have liked. I think I would have enjoyed getting to know them even better if there had been time for that.
Overall, I found Lethal Legacy to be a fun, fast paced mystery with a healthy dose of romance. If you’re in the mood for a quick, light read with a mystery at the forefront, Lethal Legacy would be a good choice for you.
**I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.
Lethal Legacy is another fast-paced suspense novel by Carol J. Post that should keep most readers turning those pages and annoyed by any interruption. As the frequency of danger and unexplained accidents increases, the long buried connection between Andrea and Sheriff Deputy Bryce Caldwell pushes its way to the surface, demanding another look at their relationship.
Once again I found myself buried in an excellent story by this author who has a talent for writing captivating suspense. Great character development and vivid details kept the story believable. Every time it looked like the characters could take a breather, something else would happen. There was a good list of possible people who had reason to want Andrea injured or even dead but my guesses at a possible suspect changed as the tale progressed. A few plot twists and surprises along the way and an unobtrusive Christian message combined to make this an enjoyable read. If you have not read a Carol J. Post novel, Lethal Legacy might be a good place to start.
I voluntarily reviewed a digital copy of this book provided by the author. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own.
This is another well written Christian suspense romance story by this talented author. Whether you are new to Murphy, NC or a long time reader, rest assure it’s a stand alone. The story centers around Andrea/Andi Wheaton and Bryce Caldwell. They were sweethearts when they were young but misunderstandings caused a riff. She went back to Atlanta with her family, got married, became success in her job and now divorced and grieving the death of both her parents, returns to the cabin her Dad owned in Murphy to decide what to do with it. Bryce is now a deputy, and has never forgotten her. When danger surrounds her, Bryce is determined to keep her safe. Feelings are resurfacing but neither is willing to to go beyond friendship. It’s full of intrigue, whodunit, and romance. Looking forward to what else this author has in store for us. I voluntarily read this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Andrea returns to Murphy, North Carolina after her mother and father are killed in an auto accident. Little did she know that they were coming for her next. She becomes reunited with her childhood boyfriend that broke her heart and she isn't ready to make that mistake again.
I loved Andrea's confidence, strength, and determination and Bryce's protective and caring nature who is willing to protect her at all costs. The story was filled with mystery, intrigue, and fast-paced action and suspense. It had me on the edge of my seat trying to find out what would happen next. The romantic part of the story evolved nicely and the author put just the right amount of spiritual quality into the story. Overall, a very enjoyable read which I highly recommend.
I received a copy from the author and willingly chose to review it.
The second in the Murphy series, Lethal Legacy does not disappoint. Reluctant romance, a mystery revealed in well-timed doses, and spurts of fast-paced action are woven into a gripping, engaging tale. As readers, we want to root for love, but the author keeps us guessing - is that really what the lead characters want? And what about the mystery - what’s really going on? Just when we start to get comfortable, the author, Carol J. Post, throws in a switch or twist and we are back to puzzling right along with the main characters. Excellent read with an intense, nail biting climax. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it.
"Lethal Legacy" is the 2nd book set in Murphy, North Carolina. It was fun to get to see the characters we met in the first book and to get to know more of Bryce's story. I found the book to be well written and it flowed well. I didn't want to put the book down and just read so I could know what was going to happen. I think the mystery unfolded nicely and there were plenty of adventures and twists along the way. The faith element was light, but there and it was nice to see the growth. I look forward to reading the final Murphy book.
I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given voluntarily. No compensation was received for my review.
Lethal Legacy grabbed my interest from the first page (the cover really) and never lost it. Carol Post knows how to write excellent clean romantic suspense. The main characters are very likable and are well developed throughout the book. The story is fast paced and exciting. There are twists and turns that add to the suspense. I highly recommend this book to readers of suspense and to readers of romantic suspense. I hope to read more of this author’s works. I received an ARC. I chose to write a review and share my opinion of this action-packed book.
A second chance at love for childhood sweethearts with a mystery regarding something her father had hidden. Throw in some bad guys, surly neighbors, and a lot of wrecked cars!
A very enjoyable read. Another book set in Murphy.
I received an e-book from the author; she hopes I’ll like the story. I did!
she comes to the cattage but someone runs her off the road, then other things start to happen he was her boyfriend but broke it off, now she is back and in danger, both her parents where killed in a wreck one week ago, now someone is after her can the figure it out in time? this is a very good suspense romance story. loved it
I ordered this book not realizing that it was one of those "little" paperbacks. So, I put off reading it until I had run out of other books to read. I was very pleasantly surprised that this was a really good story. Even though I picked up on the clues that were woven throughout, the book still kept my interest to the end.
