Mary Campisi is the author of over 40 emotion-packed novels that center around hope, redemption, and second chances.

Mary should have known she'd become a writer when at age thirteen she began changing the ending to all the books she read. It took several years and a number of jobs, including registered nurse, receptionist in a swanky hair salon, accounts payable clerk, and practice manager in an OB/GYN office, for her to rediscover writing. Enter a mouse-less computer, a floppy disk, and a dream large enough to fill a zip drive. The rest of the story lives on in every book she writes.

When she's not working on her craft or following the lives of five adult children, Mary's digging in the dirt with her flowers and herbs, cooking, reading, walking her rescue lab, Henry, or, on the perfect day, riding off into the sunset with her very own hero/husband on his Ultra Limited aka Harley.

I have been a fan of Mary Campisi's books for about 5 years when I first downloaded my first book of her's, but when an author writes a new series there is always that doubt that you may enjoy it like the others, BUTHAVE NO FEAR Mary has NOT let us down :)
I loved this book, got pulled in from the first chapter, couldn't put the book down until I had finished :)
This is Rogan and Elizabeth story, WOW what a story... In places I found I held my breath, in others I had tears in my eyes because I felt the characters emotions as this book was so well written.
Can't wait to read #2 in this series :) Tate and Charlotte's story.

Well done on an awesome book Mary Campisi

It's the first book in the series but an extension of another series. There are characters who've appeared elsewhere and make an appearance here without enough of an explanation of who they are. If they appeared fleetingly, there would not need to be details, but their parts seem to be quite important to the story, and so the narrative is convoluted. The main characters' romance happens quickly and is undeveloped and the side stories are unresolved here and are expected to be continued in the series. Unsatisfying and unsatisfactory.

Rogan and Elizabeth almost seemed like secondary items in this story. Though they did get their HEA. The whole tangled, messed up story with its last minute twists and one little unanswered question was the main plot. The romance was the side story. This is only when I look back that I think this. I wasn't aware of that while I was reading the story. Maybe not Ms. Campisi's usual talent. Recommended.

Strangers Like Us is the 1st book in Mary Campisi’s new Reunion Gap series.
This book takes place in Reunion Gap, a small town in the state of Pennsylvania, not unlike where Mary and her siblings grew up.
If you like Mary Campisi’s Truth in Lies series, then you will love Reunion Gap!
Some of the characters in Strangers Like Us intertwine with characters in Mary’s Truth in Lies series which makes for an even richer reading experience. The characters in Strangers Like Us feel like friends, someone you would sit down with and have a long conversation. Mary has a wonderful way of developing the characters as if they are sitting right next to you, telling you their story.
Strangers Like Us is a love story at its core, continuing in the theme of love and forgiveness of Mary’s Truth in Lies series.
Reunion Gap – Strangers Like Us features Elizabeth Hayes and Rogan Donovan, characters that are filled with a rich backstory that comes to light in the present.
This town does not trust easily and due to past hurts are weary of strangers in their midst.
Elizabeth is new in town with a secret agenda and Rogan catches her eye even though this was not part of her plan.
Add in a generations old feud between the two most prominent families in Reunion Gap, the Alexanders and the Donovans and watch the sparks fly.
The question is, will Elizabeth’s true intentions come to light? And if they do, who will be hurt in the process? You must read to find out!!!
If you enjoy Strangers Like Us, book two Liars Like Us and book three Lovers Like Us in the Reunion Gap series are in process to continue the story of those you met in Strangers Like Us. Check out Mary’s Truth in Lies and That Second Chance series as well for more great reading and wonderful characters.
Strangers Like Us ends with a real cliff hanger and I cannot wait to see what is revealed in the second book.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

I seem to be developing a habit of reading the first books in a series and enjoying them but then not following through on continuing right away. I need to fix this ASAP because I can’t wait to see what the rest of this series has in store for me.

Intriguing

I enjoy this author and her books. You get right to the story and get involved in it. It is realistic and keeps you reading. A good story form and hard to put down. I think I read it in 3 days. Loved it and would recommend it highly.

Not the greatest book I have read. Too much description and not enough dialog. First in a series. Won't be rushing to get the second book.

"Strangers Like Us" (A Reunion Gap Novel, Book 1) by Mary Campisi

What a wonderful and enthralling new series Mary Campisi has started in the small town of Reunion Gap. It is lighthearted, heartwarming, moving, and thornily engaging from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down.

Love, deceit, vengeance, repayment for past sins, family dysfunction, secrets, lies, truths, infidelity and honor all are a part of this gem of a novel.

The author has written a novel with characters that are not only realistic and relatable, but she brings out their flaws in such a way that they are able to be pushed aside by their strengths. She shows the weariness that exists in a town that once was devastated by a stranger long ago and is still suffering the repercussions.

The numerous plot lines are not only interesting but more than feasible. They ring true as the reader learns more and more and the many facets which make up each one. They are all intermingled so well that it makes this novel richer and stronger.

I loved all of the main characters and what they brought to one another's lives but also for who they were as individuals. There is still more to learn about the residents of Reunion Gap and the town itself. Waiting for the next book in the series is the only negative I can come up with...and I will be (im)patiently waiting. 😊

Any reader who has read any of the author's books, know how well written they are. And the first book in this series will not disappoint, that I can guarantee.

Upon learning about his father’s death, Rogan Donovan moves back from Los Angeles to his hometown in Pennsylvania to help his family. According to his sister Charlotte, their father died leaving a pile of debts and now they’re almost broke. Matters worse, Rogan fiancé at the time called off their engagement saying she wasn’t ready to deal with his family issues.

Apparently, Rogan’s father, Jonathan Donovan, invested in a business some man named Gordon T. Haywood promised to bring to their town of Reunion Gap. Haywood, however, didn’t intend to keep his promise. When Jonathan learns he and other residents he talked into investing have been duped, he takes up drinking to erase his failure and eventually dies.

Rogan feels he’s partly to blame for his father’s bankruptcy because he thinks he would have prevented his father from falling for the scam if he hadn’t ignored his father’s request to review Haywood’s proposal about the factory he wanted to reopen.

Meanwhile in Ohio, Elizabeth Hayes, an artist had lost her parents twenty days ago in a plane crash. She’s lived a sheltered life growing up, and besides her parents, she’s only been in touch with her father’s business partner Everett Broderick, a man she calls uncle, though he’s not related. Uncle Everett is all she has left now and the closet person to a relative.

After her parents' passing, Uncle Everett admits he and her father embezzled money from their old company two years ago. According to him, they stole the money to please Elizabeth’s mother who enjoyed living a luxurious lifestyle. As if it wasn’t enough they went on to dupe the people of Reunion Gap and ruined lives in the process.

Guilt-ridden, Uncle Everett asks Elizabeth to help him right the wrong he and her father had done to the Donovan family, and by extension, the residents of Reunion Gap. So he shares his plan with her including gaining Rogan’s trust and trying to convince him to let her invest in the company without revealing her real identity or her true purpose.

This latest book, is a fictional novel in Mary’s new series about betrayal and secrets and forgiveness in the small town of Pennsylvania.

Read on to know more about the book and about my experience of reading the same.

What to expect?

Its all about hope and second chances in life which only the lucky ones can grab in their life. One has to forgive and forget to love someone forever.
The secrets in Pennsylvania
Rogan Donovan gave up his glorious career and returned home to help his family rebuild their lives destroyed by a swindler businessman.
Elizabeth Hayes arrives in Pennsylvania, bent on helping the people her father cheated. Rogan falls in love with her, unaware of the fact that Elizabeth is the daughter of the same man, who destroyed his parents lives. Does Elizabeth succeed in her good intentions? Will forgiveness and redemption follow? Will their love blossom or will it perish under anger and revenge? Will the town ever forgive Rogan’s and Elizabeth father? Will destiny give them a second chance?
IN the END you may even want to visit these small towns and share a coffee with the residents and listen to their life stories.

Pick up the book if
• You are looking for a light non-fiction.

***Standalone*** - but i'd defo get the full series because this is a must!!!!
So when I first got this book, I started reading it and I was quite interested in it until all the income and business talk was happening and i was sooo bored, I skipped some pages and I even stopped reading it and read another book. But when I went back to the book, I carried on reading and OMG my mouth was LITERALLY (not lying) on the floor!!! you had some decent scenarios going on like A LOT OF CHARACTERS and you know normal stuff, until suddenly BOOM!!!

A tiny weeny bit of spoilers now: (just a bit :))
You have some great story twisters and dramatic scenes and I even cried so hard and my heart clenched when Elizabeth and Rogan got back together - and then there were some times I felt so sad and I thought that's it, wth is going to happen now - I need to find out --> when we realise Jonathan wasn't even rogans dad!!! I mean come on now thats just so epic and shell shocking I had to stop reading and just stare out the window like a lost soul! And my heart stopped when Elizabeth and Rogan were in a fight and when he was leaving she was like "I'M PREGNANT!!!!" I was like wooow.
Spoiler end: :)

So yeah there's a lot of drama in this book, and in the rest of the series you find out about the dad and the other characters stories like: camille , tristan and charlotte, jessica and oliver and so many more...
I definitely recommend this
Enjoy

Another really good family saga by Mary Campisi. I have read a few of her book s and all have been very enjoyable. This was no exception. My only quibble is with the ending. Rogan and Elizabeth get their happy ending but what of Tate and Rogan's sister Charlotte? We are left hanging. I get it. This is book one in the Reunion Gap series and the ending is obviously designed to make you want to read book 2, which I do, but I know that by the time I get around to finding that book and reading it, I will have forgotten the story!

As she always does, Mary Campisi really delivered in Strangers Like Us, Book one in her new series centered in Reunion Gap. At least, she had me hooked in the first few pages. Similar to her A Family Affair series, Mary creates a fictional town where heartache, betrayal, forgiveness, and redemption rein. But, Reunion Gap is not like the town of Magdalena. Reunion Gap is closed off and shuns newcomers. Once, not so long ago, the townspeople were victims of a con man. Many lost their life savings. One man lost everything including his life.

Strangers is the story of the children of the con man and the man who lost everything. Both of these characters are trying to rectify the grave injustice that their fathers did to the town.
It is an engrossing story that fans of Mary Campisi will enjoy immensely. To newer readers, it is an introduction to the works of the author. Neither set of readers will be disappointed.

This is an honest review of the book of which I received an Advanced Reader Copy.

Ms. Campisi books are known for secrets from the past old loves and small towns where everyone knows you and this story is no different. In the town of Reunion gap there has been some tragedies. Jonathan the patriarch of the Donovan family died suddenly under a mist of scandal. He invested with the wrong person along with the townspeople money and was left with nothing. Elizabeth finds out what her father has done to the town and has come to make amends but under a guise and not telling her true identity. While in the town she becomes intwine with Jonathan's family and falls in love with his son Rogan. unbeknownst to Rogan that he has just fall for the man who cheated his father's daughter. As stated previously this is Ms. Campisi themes in many of her small town storylines. Love ones having to overcome tragedy, secrets love lost to find love again and this one was no different but she Campisi sure knows how to weave and keep the readers entertained.

Strangers Like Us is an entertaining contemporary romance by Mary Campisi. Ms. Campisi has given us a book that is well-written and loaded it with fantastic characters. Rogan's family was swindled along with most of the town. He returned to his hometown to help his family, leaving a job he enjoyed and an ex behind. Elizabeth learns that her father was the con man that hurt the town and is urged by her uncle to pay it back without anyone knowing. Rogan and Elizabeth's story is loaded with drama, humor, secrets and suspicion. I enjoyed this story and look forward to my next book by Mary Campisi. Strangers Like Us is book 1 of the Reunion Gap Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

What do you get when two people return to small town Reunion Gap to right a wrong and go about it in two different ways? You make them lovers, right? Rogan has return to help his family regain the loss that they suffered at the hands of a thief. Elizabeth is trying to make right what her father stole from the town. The attraction that Rogan and Elizabeth feel when they first bump into each other is instantaneous but she refuses to move on it. Thrown into the mix is a mystery man who has connections to the incident. Mary Campisi weaves a powerful story with just enough intrigue to keep you guessing the next move. I love series but when the book stands alone like this one, it's make a read more enjoyable.

Roger Donovan moves back home to Reunion Gap, Pennsylvania after his parents were swindled out of their life savings and helps his mother rebuild her life. Roger’s father had talked most of the townsfolk to invest in a company run by a con man. Then he died after losing most of their savings. Elizabeth Hayes moves to Reunion Gap to help the people of the town after finding out her father was the con man who cheated them of their life savings. Roger is attracted to Elizabeth not knowing she is the daughter of the man that swindled his parents. Find out if Roger will forgive Elizabeth of her father’s con and continue their romance. I really enjoyed this great contemporary romance novel.

'Strangers Like Us' was phenomenal. Its captivating page-turning plot was filled with heartache, neglect, ruination, secrets, righting a wrong, a budding relationship on two fronts, matchmakers, a revelation, a confrontation, reconciliation, and love. Furthermore, Elizabeth and Rogan, the protagonists, were soul mates and gushed with chemistry. I kept rooting for them. Moreover, I liked the author's writing style: fascinating characters, an interesting small-town setting, vivid descriptions including imagery and figurative language, and an amazing storyline that included subplots and a backstory that held my interest. Overall, I liked the heartfelt narrative.

Very interesting story.
A woman’s father had swindled the people of a town. The swindler’s daughter is Elizabeth and she wants to right the wrong and she comes to the town. There she meets Rogan. The story progresses from there about the relationship between Elizabeth and Rogan.
The story is not just a romance between the main characters. How it moves on weaving the lives of most of the people in the town was enjoyable. The story dealt with various other themes like love, understanding and forgiveness.
Overall, a very satisfying a read.

Enjoyable but too convoluted. I did not like the italicised thoughts as they too often included two voices and overlapped in a skewed way with what was happening in the story. I also found it frequently confusing. At one stage, I thought that circumstances being what they were, Rogan and Elizabeth must have been brother and sister. However, if I have it right, her father was the man he thought was his dad, but his mother had an affair with someone else.

Not worth reading. I liked the early books by Campisi that were real books with a full story. She’s succumbed to the fad of writing a pre-sequel to a sequel to a sequel. Undeveloped characters, too many side stories and unexplained references. Repetition of facts and events already described once - or three times. Even the plot seemed a rehashed plot of a previous book. I doubt I will ever read another “book” by her.

This book had so many characters that I had a hard time keeping them straight and I'm still not sure who was married to which one. Then there were so many sleeping with whomever in a small town, it would not suprise me that sooner or later, someone will end up married to a sibling.
So many people lying about one thing or another.

This is not a book that will help you take that final leap with a loved one.

When I'm feeling stressed or low, I love to read a feel good story, and nothing is better than a second chance story to fill the need. Mary Campisi is great at writing second chance stories. Furthermore, I like that there are several series of them. I like getting to know the 'community' and many of the characters. This was no exception.

Riveting Saga

I've read a lot of small town romance and it's a hit and miss business. This was a definite hit.
Some twists and turns I didn't see coming but they had me dialled in. Rose (MMC's mother) threw a wicked curve, I'm still recove3from,lol. Must read this entire series.

To make a tragedy right, and heal damaged hearts is very hard.

To find away to make a disaster go away is a mission that must be done. To clear the past without hurting more people almost impossible. Put strong attraction and not being truthful makes it almost to achieve. Excellent story line on more than one family is here. Loved it.

Excellent book. Trying to help correct a bad situation by bringing a defunct business that fell into a scam and loss of a large amount of money as well as the self-esteem of the owner who fell into the scam. It showed how much emotional work and ethics had to take place as well as building trust and love.

When I saw the first book of Mary’s new series I was so excited to get my hands on it. This is an excellent start for a new series, which is linked in with the family affair series. This book is a lovely read which has been well written, and with characters so real they jumped off the page at me.
