Englishman Steven Moore grew up by the seaside, thus his first true joy was the great outdoors. His innate love of travel and a degree in anthropology, archaeology, and art history help inform his fiction writing. Steven also loves painting, photography, and both playing and watching sport.

The travel bug bit the now perpetual nomad early, and to date Steven has lived and worked on five continents, and visited almost sixty countries. Steven combines an age-old writing adage; Write what you know, with his own mantra; Write where you know, and sets most of his novels in places in which he has either lived or spent an extended period of time.

When not on the road with his writer wife Leslie, San Miguel de Allende in Mexico is home, which they share with their rescue cats Ernest Hemingway and F Scott Fitzgerald (Ernie and Fitz).

A lifelong love of food, wine, and beer have demanded a new-found love of yoga and hiking in order to fend off the imminent arrival of middle age.

A True Adventure.

Hiram Kane is visiting Bali when his friends’ niece is kidnapped by local thugs.

Poor Ayu, only six years old, is taken away from her village and her family. Hiram Kane and her two uncles Putu and Ketet are on the chase.

While they are chasing after the losers, they have questions about the kidnapping. Why is their village being assaulted? Why is someone in their family being stolen away? Who’s behind it?

This book is only a short bit over one hundred pages, but it is filled with action. From the prologue to the last chapter there is suspense and thrills and adventure.

This book is highly recommended.

Five fantastic stars. 💫

The Tiger Temple by Steven Moore narrated by Kenneth Bryant is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. I enjoyed this adventure book that was nail biting at times and unpredictable. It is a short book but full of and if a full length novel!
The narration was fair!

This is the first of a new series that features Hiram Kane, an adventurer by heart. This is a short story to introduce the character ..and the author's writing style.

Hiram is a man's man ... he's strong, he's brave, he's fearless and he is always on the side of justice.

One of his friends gets him involved with a gangster that leads to the kidnapping of the gangster's young daughter.

Hiram jumps in the fray and finds himself in a race across Bali to locate and rescue the girl before the kidnapper takes out his anger and vengeance on the girl. It doesn't help that the Mt. Agung volcano is ready to tear the island apart ... with Hiram right in its path.

This is a well-written action-adventure, reminiscent of Indiana Jones. I loved the description of Bali ... the good, the bad and the ugly. The characters are deftly defined and I am looking forward to reading the further adventures of Hiram Kane.

Many thanks to the author who provided the digital copy of this action-adventure thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Ayu went from age 6 to 10 and back to 6 all in one chapter. And her logistical thought processs in chapter 9 were very advanced for a 6 year old.
The occasional use of Hiram, when the majority of the book used Kane, to refer to Hiram Kane was confusing, it would have been better to stick with one of Hiram or Kane instead swapping between the two.
Other errors, although minor, added to the frustration. I presume "had were" should've been "had been" or "were".

The Tiger Temple by Steven Moore was so much more than I anticipated. Sure, I saw the blurb that mentioned Clive Cussler and I have read many books by Clive, so I thought The Tiger Temple would be a good fit. At times, I felt like I was on an adventure with Indiana Jones.

It all begins when a young girl is kidnapped by a vicious crime lord, Jago. As the story unfolds, it becomes even more disturbing. The trafficking of the endangered Sumatran tiger is deplorable. It’s hard to come up with words to describe the senseless killing.

Hiram is friends with the family and by their side every step of the way, as the try to locate Ayu and rescue her. Ayu is a courageous, young girl who fights to survive, . She is dropped in a pit, left to drown when the rain begins to fill it. Besides the rain storm, we have a volcano about to erupt. I love when an author gives an innocent, sweet child a starring role. It sure does tug at the heartstrings, as if the senseless killing of the Sumatran tigers isn’t enough.

Steven Moore gets his ideas from his travels and experiences around the world. It shows in the details his writing provides, with vivid characters and surroundings that make me feel like I am a part of the adventure. An adventure that shares the good and bad of humanity. One family member makes the ultimate sacrifice, and I think Steven Moore handled the situation in the best way possible.

It took me reading The Tiger Temple and Hiram Kane to get me engrossed in the series. Sure, the blurb caught my attention, along with the vibrant red of the cover, but it was the story itself that drew me deeper and deeper into Hiram Kane’s adventure.

The disgust I felt over the graphic details of the trafficking of the Sumatran tiger and it’s ‘parts’ was very disturbing. We know these things go on today and maybe Steven Moore’s story can help in some way.

A book full of adventure but was spoilt for me by the bad formatting of the pages. I also felt that it was aimed at a younger audience by the style of the writing. I did however enjoy the storyline.

This was a well executed adventure with a simple premise that engaged from the first page. A young daughter of a Balinese family is kidnapped in broad daylight, leading to a motorcycle chase across the island that quickly leads into a thrilling crime mystery, and much at stake.

The hero of the tale, Hiram Kane is kind of like a corporate hippy slash modern day adventurer who is both a competent fighting man as well as being grounded in a semi-esoteric, philosophical mindset. Kind of like Indiana Jones after spending ten years as a Buddhist monk. The kind of guy you would trust but never quiet understand.

Steven Moore is well traveled you immediately see it in his prose. The story is set in Bali, and having spent time on the Indonesian Island myself, his descriptions of places I've actually been to were perfect. Moore has a great understand of world cultures and this also shows everywhere in his prose.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Great if you enjoyed modern day adventure fiction in exotic locations.

I really enjoyed this book, I was hooked from the first few pages and I flew through the book right to a really enjoyable ending! It is really action packed.

I loved the writing style and the scene setting was brilliant, it really did feel as though we were transported to the places in the book. The characters were great and well developed - Hiram Kane is a great character.

Four stars from me for this one - highly recommended and I am definitely looking forward to reading more from this author!

An enjoyable introduction to the adventures of Hiram Kane.
The story is set in a unique location in a small village in Bali where Hiram Kane has gone anticipating a restful stay.
But he gets embroiled in a dangerous mission to save a young child from a mobster gang that has kidnapped her as revenge against her uncle who betrayed them.
It is a fast read and the descriptions of the volcanic Mount Agung and Besakih temple manage to bring the setting alive for the reader.
The nuggets of information about life in Indonesia were also interesting.
Looking forward to read more stories set in other exotic locations.

This is a brilliant story. I actually listened to it on audible, and the reader is very good. The story is set in Bali and starts almost immediately with the kidnapping of a young girl. With that Hiram is out to find her and put things right. This story will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. The action doesn't let up for a second. You also "visit" some of the most famous sites in Bali, and learn a little along the way. Its a great mix up of archaeological adventure and pure action. ITs an easy read too, flowing well with interesting characters. Enjoyed every second of it and look forward to reading or listening to more of Steve's work.

A book that certainly doesn’t give you time to take a breath. Although only a short story it packs a lot of action into the pages almost non-stop. An interesting start to a series that I’ll definitely be reading more of. A fast paced action adventure.

AUDIOBOOK
I have not listened or read anything by this author before but I throughly enjoyed this audio. The words are so descriptive I felt like I was there with them in this beautiful land but stuck in a race against time to save the girl. I can’t wait to listen to the next one now.

Let me preface this by saying that action adventure is not actually my genre, but that being said it was a fun book to listen to. If you enjoy motorcycle chases through the jungles of Bali then you will enjoy this book! The book is set in Bali and I was lucky enough to visit last year – so the description of the monkey forest and Ubud and surrounds was easy to picture and made me enjoy the story more. Some parts were a little predictable, but I enjoyed the ending.

I enjoyed the story overall, but it felt a bit like I stumbled into the middle of an existing story. The characters were not really introduced in the beginning of the book and the story starts right off with the kidnapping with no real setting of the scene, At the end of the book we do actually get a short introduction to Hiram Kane. I guess this is a good entry into the series and I am looking forward to the next book, which will hopefully explore more of Hiram Kane's character.
The narrator is not very good and actually made it very hard to follow the story. He adds weird and unnecessary pauses in the sentences and I found it very distracting and hard to get used to. I was hoping the second book was narrated by someone else.

The Tiger Temple - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Steven Moore's novella The Tiger Temple, gives an important message about the evils of gambling, drug and other forms of addiction, along with the relevance of how they can destroy families, relationships and lives.
As entertainment the story of Hiram Kane's interaction with the family of Ayu, a young Asian girl who's been kidnapped as a result of her uncle's weaknesses, is a powerful narrative with fully-developed engaging characters pulling together, to overcome the odds and fight against the evils of modern society.

I liked the contrast between the MC Hiram Kane as an easy-going man, who's tough when necessary, who's befriended Ayu's family. Also the light and shade of the two uncles Ketut and Putu's opposite characters - one strong and the other weak and foolish - that really gave pizzazz to the story.
The introduction of a tiger as an innocent means of destruction, being used as a bodyguard by the main antagonist, 'The Rooster' and ultimately becoming the means of his death, was a satisfying way of correcting the natural balance between good and evil caused by Man's negative effect on Nature.
I found the motorbike chase across the city and beyond very exciting as it increased the tension and already fast pace of the story, as did the drowning risk to Ayu (who can't swim) when the volcano tremors begin and the final stand-off between Jago, (aka The Rooster') and the MCs in the subterranean chambers beneath the eponymous Tiger Temple.

I would strongly recommend this story to fans of all-action adventures in exotic locations (Bali), with a strong MC (Hiram Kane), leading the fight against the villainous drug lord Jago, whose nefarious actions cause the breakdown of families and individuals' lives. Why not buy a copy today and decide for yourself - you'll love it!

(rounded up from 3.5)
Hiram Kane is visiting Nyuh Kuning a small and sleepy village in Bali when suddenly the peace and quiet is shattered by gunman who kidnap six year old Ayu, daughter Banjar Kelian (the head of the village) and the niece of his friends Putu and Ketut.

After a death defying motorbike race across the island, they lose sight of Ayu and Putu makes a shocking confession. He fell in with notorious gangster Jago aka The Rooster, a ruthless villain who deal drugs and illegal tiger parts, but stupidly crossed him. Now Ayu’s life hangs in the balance and Hiram must help get her back.

I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, but it works perfectly well as a stand-alone.
This novella is packed with action from the outset, set against the tropical backdrop of Bali, a place I have only sadly seen on TV. It also shows that Bali is not exactly the tropical paradise everyone thinks it is, it has dark side, with the child sex trade, drugs and the illegal slaughter of tigers.

There are some real heart in your mouth moments, with the threat of a volcano about to erupt and poor little Ayu trapped in a cell that is rapidly filling with water! I could see this making a really good action movie.

The author has obviously done a lot of research about Bali and it’s culture but at times I felt it got a little bogged down in the details. Also I felt there wasn’t much information about Kane himself, there is a little in the epilogue but I’m looking forward to learning more about him in the next book, The Samurai Code.

Overall a great bit of fast paced escapism and a nice introduction to the series.

3 and 1 / 2 stars

At a religious ceremony, the peaceful and lawful village in Bali is stunned when the six-year old daughter of their leader is kidnapped in front of the whole village. The three men sped away on motorbikes, one clutching Ayu. They were followed closely by Ayu’s uncles Ketut and Putu and the hero of our story, Hiram Kane. Kane was in the beautiful village relaxing after leading a trying expedition and had become fast friends with Ketut and Putu.

The kidnappers got away – with the frightened Ayu in tow. When returning to the village, Putu tearfully confesses that he got in trouble with a local gang leader over a shipment of drugs that had gone awry.

Simultaneously, the nearby Mount Agung was starting to shake the ground in preparation for an eruption as Kane, Putu and Ketut set out to find and rescue Ayu. The volcanologists predict that the mountain is ready to erupt at any moment.

An exciting and daring rescue and escape plan is the highlight of the novel.

This book is well written (if a little simplistic), and plotted. I enjoyed it. It is a hero beats all odds novel with a few twists thrown in for good measure. It is reminiscent of action/thriller-writers like James Rollins, or the old Clive Cussler books. It does not, however, have the science on which Rollins bases his books. If you like an action book and don’t mind suspending your belief system for a bit, this is a pretty good escapist read.

I have come to love the authors’ Hiram Kane series, having stumbled across The Samurai Code and then followed up with The Condor Prophecy.

His books are always full of adventure and take you deep into the local places and people of far flung exotic places, in this novella, to Bali.

From the authors own experience from living and visiting there we get a lovely description of the local people and culture, the great architecture and temples.

But, this is a wonderful, yet far too short (for lovers of Hiram Kane series - this is just a little nibble) thrilling adventure story where Hiram doesn’t necessarily take the main role.

He is quickly mixed up with his concern over the sudden and violent kidnapping of the village chiefs’ daughter where he is staying and chases after the kidnappers with her two uncles, whom Hiram regards as friends.

The story also mixes matters with a Balinese Mafia gang, a rival Chinese gang and an uncle who blames himself.

This a great short read and gives you another adventure in the Hiram series - short but still complete.

I would recommend this series to all who like a bit of adventure with real life descriptions of the exotic surroundings by an author that has been to these places.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I shall start by admitting that I don't usually read books set in foreign (to me) countries. I usually prefer to read about places in my own country but I will make an exception for this novel because I truly enjoyed it.
Set on the island of Bali, Hiram Kane has friends amongst the local population. When the 6 year old niece of two of his friends is kidnapped by motorbike-riding thugs, Hiram sets off to chase them, accompanied by the little girl's two uncles. The chase is thrilling, worthy of a James Bond film and the description of the surrounding countryside is very well-done. The story grabbed me from the start and the author's clever way of upping the excitement and the tension with the introduction of an erupting volcano on top of the chase and the fights was perfection. The addition of the seamier side of life in this island paradise also adds to the thrills and the contrast between the beautiful surroundings and the gangster style of life is eye-opening for all. I will definitely be reading more from this author. If you like fast-paced action reads then this book is for you.

I received an advance copy of this book.

Kane is attending an annual Hindu religious event at the Temple of Origin, near the Mount Agung volcano. As he is enjoying time with his friends, gunshots break out in the temple. One of the most notorious gangsters of the area has been betrayed by someone in the area, and a 6-year old girl named Ayu has been taken hostage. Now, Kane must find out who doublecrossed the gangster and rescue little Ayu, before it is too late.

This action thriller novel kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it. Sometimes when reading this type of book, or short story, I find myself losing focus and eventually giving up halfway through. Nevertheless, I read this book in almost all one sitting, and I wanted to read more books in the Hiram Kane series right after. This was a perfect book to pass the time on a dull winter afternoon, and I cannot wait for the next installment of the series.

While this is a short story, it is not lacking in action and suspense. Hiram Kane is an adventurer who is all that every young boy wants to be. He is brave and moral, and in this story he is willing to risk his life to rescue a young girl who has been kidnapped by the Bali version of the mafia. Whether racing motorcycles through the crowded cities and dangerous mountains, Hiram is will to do what it take to help his friends rescue their niece. The characters are well rounded and the descriptions of Bali are beautiful, but the action continues at a rapid pace. The suspense continues right up to the very end, which provides a few surprises of its own. This is my second Hiram Kane book, and it convinced me to buy the third.

A very exciting read, with a very fast paced plot.I loved the evocative descriptions of the Island (warts and all!) and also the characters. This is the fist of Mr Moore's books that I have read, but I will definitely be reading 'The Samurai Code' and 'The Condor Prophecy' in the near future, as I think that Hiram Kane is a great invention.
The action sequences in this novella are of necessity fairly brief, but nonetheless are very well written, I particularly liked the motorcycle chase.
The only fault that I could find with the book was that it was too short, and I finished it too quickly!
I received an advance copy of this book.

I'd originally read this on kindle version but snapped up the audio when it arrived. The story already gets full marks, it has a bit of everything and though an introduction to Hiram Kane, I was already familiar with him. This, though, was a great story still offering insights into why Kane does what he does now (books 2 and 3). Well rounded characters, no cardboard baddies here, real terror and nail-biting action and some great dialogue. Again the scenes set were very descriptive and nature plays its part.
The audio was very good, very well narrated, emotion expressed well, and action sequences told with verve. Highly recommended series.

The Tiger Temple, third edition, by Steven Moore took me away to Bali. Could just about smell the incense and Frangipani. Could hear the bells and the thundering of the Agung volcano. And I could feel the humidity and torrential rain. This is the beautiful background for a kidnapped 6 year old niece of two Bali brothers and their friend and our hero Hiram Kane. Exciting, page turning, edge of your seat story. This is a rewrite of this story with at least 10K more words. Great story!

I was given a copy of this book by the author, but am voluntarily posting an honest review.

Having read the first two books in the series, I knew I would love this one and it would be full of adventure. The book starts off brilliantly with Hiram's friend's daughter being kidnapped and Hiram and his friends chasing them on motorbikes through the jungle. From there the book doesn';t slow down with the three of them trying to get her back before something bad happens to her. It is a brilliant read, which can be read as a standalone book if you haven't read the other two yet.

This was an e-book that a receive as a gift in exchange for a review. And I must say that is pretty good. The only reason that i didn't gave a 5 star review is because i didn't get to know very well the protagonist, Hiram Kane.
But by giving him a 4 star review means that I will follow this author, and will follow Kane, while trying to know more about him.

Hiram and friends engage in what is almost a "forelorn hope" effort. Read the book for the details. Exciting story with non-stop action, good guys with their mighty steeds, bad guys, damsel in distress. I did not put this book down until I finished it. Another great read from Steven.
