The White House Protection Force Races to Defend! Come meet the behind-the-scenes specialists who keep our White House safe—even while they lose their hearts.
Jim Fischer and Malcolm the springer spaniel love their patrols safeguarding the White House. They walk the fence line, meet the tourists, and hunt the bad guys. Neither one ever searched for more, until now.
Reese Carver raced NASCAR. She abruptly left her front row starting position to join the U.S. Secret Service. The first woman to ever drive the Presidential limo—known as “The Beast” for a reason—holds the President’s life in her hands alone. Or so she thought.
To save the President, the driver and the dog-handler must find common ground before their hearts get blown away.
USA Today and Amazon #1 Bestseller M. L. “Matt” Buchman started writing on a flight south from Japan to ride his bicycle across the Australian Outback. Just part of a solo around-the-world trip that ultimately launched his writing career.
From the very beginning, his powerful female heroines insisted on putting character first, then a great adventure. He’s since written over 60 action-adventure thrillers and military romantic suspense novels. And just for the fun of it: 100 short stories, and a fast-growing pile of read-by-author audiobooks.
Booklist says: 3x “Top 10 of the Year.” PW says: “Tom Clancy fans open to a strong female lead will clamor for more.” His fans say: “I want more now…of everything.” That his characters are even more insistent than his fans is a hoot. As a 30-year project manager with a geophysics degree who has designed and built houses, flown and jumped out of planes, and solo-sailed a 50’ ketch, he is awed by what is possible. As I started this one I wasn't sure about it, Reese was very prickly. It bothered me that she would take offense at compliments that Jim gave her. I was glad that after initial flare of anger she would let Jim explain what he meant and realize it was meant in the best way possible. Sure with Reese's background it made sense that Reese would thing bad things first.
I loved how Reese and Jim seemed to make big changes in how things were done at work, how both of them saw bad things before they were happening and did what they could to down grade things. But the best the scene at the end, loved that old and new friends were all there.
This book was sooo good! 😁 I really enjoy M.L. Buchman's attention to detail. He writes fascinating books in this regard. I liked the first book in the series and all the details about the Protection War Dogs and the White House chefs, etc. This book took us through a detailed description of what it entailed to plan and carry out the President's motorcade journeys. The story was so informative and interesting, and the suspense was riveting and written so well heart stopping!!! I could just imagine it really happening!!!! The love story was very beautiful, sexy and real. Jim was the perfect man, with his gentleness, understanding and patience!! I highly recommend this book. You will be amazed at how realistically detailed it is as well as being very romantic at the same time!!!!
This author is SO good. What will I do when I have read all his books? This story just smoothly powers along, building tension while developing different & interesting characters. His metaphors are superb, even fanciful, in this racing-themed story. BUT..I am tired of the Dilya character. She emerges in the Night Stalker stories, then in this series. I dislike her teenage, omniscient, explanations of the characters' relationships. In this one, she compares Reese to a character in a Jane Austen story. This cover doesn't adequately describe Reese's skin tone either. Don't be shy about doing that. Also, this has the same plot points as #1 in the series with the same enigmatic Miss Watson hidden in a small office in the basement. A bit disappointed; not sure I'll read #3. The action picks up in the last 1/3rd of the book.
The heroine has just been promoted to driver of the president's limo in the official motorcade. She used to be a NASCAR driver, but she applied to drive in the Secret Service and worked her way up very quickly. The hero is a K9 officer with the Secret Service, who is attracted to her when they first meet, but makes lots of mistakes when trying to talk to her. Fortunately his dog, Malcolm, is cute. He's an English Springer Spaniel who sniffs for explosives. This is a romantic suspense, but most of the focus is on the suspense, with lots of fascinating details about the White House and the motorcade and how the USS prepares for and carries out their tasks of transporting and protecting the president and other government officials. It's a good read and I liked it a lot.
First off, what is the deal with Goodreads making this book so hard to find on a search?? By title, it never came up. I had to search for "white house protection" to find it for review. Similar to the first book, the hero is very capable but is not an alpha male. The heroine is very strong and capable. It had a nice thriller plot line with appearances by characters from the author's other books (you do not need to read the others first). I really liked the mixed race relationship was handled by making no big deal out of it.
Reesehas just been given the premier White House motorcade job: driving tbe President in the Beast. Her first day she meets Jim and his dog Malcolm walking the fence. Chemistry is strong but Reese has a lot of baggage and insecurities. Not nearly as entertaining as first in series but still a good thriller. The final sum up was given a little too short shrift and left me mildly puzzled.
Characters: secret service driver/former NASCAR, dog handler/former military driver World Building: fancy driving Plot: uncover nefarious plot, she needs to overcome feelings from her past in order to move forward Sex: medium Read another: always
I loved Reese and her attitude, loyalty, and commitment. Malcolm and Jim are such a good team and well suited for Reese. This series is right behind The Night Stalkers snd Delta series
I enjoyed this one better than the first one in the series. It was nice to see an alpha heroine paired with a more nurturing hero. Looking forward to the next one.
This is a fun, fun series. Each book is a standalone but I am enjoying reading them all. It is playful but also serious, the building of friendship but with threads of danger. Bravo!!
One of the secret services “floppy eared” patrol dogs (explosive detection in a friendly dog suit) walks around the White House and finds the new driver of the Presidential “Beast”.
Mayhem and problems ensue and the good guys win - but it is fun reading about it!
