This book is amazing! I had a session with Kelly a few years back and LOVED her formulaic approach to eating. It is so easy to remember and she got me to drink my first fab 4 smoothie. I HATED powdered protein until she told me the exact one to buy! She actually took me to the market next door to our meeting place and helped me read labels with a fresh set of tools. She does the exact same in this book. She gives specific brands, recipes, and VERY practical ideas for every lifestyle. This book is THICK and full of ideas that you can implement right away. Plus, she is wildly smart and so likable! I am excited about her new podcast too!
This is a book for people in LA, or who want to live in LA, and enjoy selectively choosing their facts about nutrition to serve their own preferences or goals. I'm not into self help books, but for some reason I picked this up and thought it might be useful. I was wrong.
The overall premise of the book is relatively sound. Eating greens, fiber, protein, and fat as the base for your meals is generally agreed upon nutrition science. However, when she dives deeper than that it gets sketchy. I'm not a nutritionist, but when she recommends avoiding GMOs because the science still isn't settled about whether it's safe for human consumption (it is), that you should avoid soy because it contains endocrine disruptors (not in reasonable amounts), and uses words like 'clean' and' detox', I find it really hard to trust anything else she says.
If you are completely new to healthy eating, the meal plans in this book may help you establish some good habits, especially with the focus on whole foods and vegetables. But ultimately, I don't think this 400 page book contains more wisdom than these seven words from Michael Pollan: "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants."
This is Nonfiction/Health. I read a lot of different types of books in these genres. I can't help myself. I'm drawn to all things health related. Out of all the books I've read though, this is the first one that actually felt like a conglomeration of the new science that is coming out as well as common sense. I liked this one. I think it is one of my favorites so far.
Did I drink all the Kool-aid? No. But I still liked her advice and her tone. She had a genuine desire to help people. So 4 stars.
I’m not going to rate this book since I have no interest in following the meal plan. I got this from the library because I was curious about the plant based chapter. I give her credit for including it as an option, but none of the recipes sounded good at all. Even though she claims this isn’t a low carb cookbook, it pretty much is. Eliminate or strictly reduce grains and watch out for too much fruit. Recipes like cauliflower rice tabbouli, hemp hearts and “zoodles” and pad Thai with shiritake noodles just don’t appeal to me.
Maybe the recipes are delicious and the diet would have amazing results. It’s possible, but I think I could do just as well with food that actually appeals to me.
I definitely see where a few reviewers are coming from with their negative reviews. To get the most out of this book, it's important to read through the entire Introduction and "Blood Sugar 101" chapter. The introduction was helpful and inspiring, and it's clear that LeVeque wants you to do what's right for you, regardless of what the book says you should do. If you don't keep this in mind, I imagine it would be easy to be put off from the rest of the book. Some of the tips and guides come off as a little preachy an rigid.
I found the "Blood Sugar 101" chapter to be incredibly helpful. The science is laid out in a short comprehensive way, and I'm astonished I didn't know most of this before reading.
The rest of the guides and recipes left me wanting. Partly because it's not realistic for me to cut out all chemicals, dyes, and preservatives, especially with how prolific those ingredients are in everyday foods. It's also not realistic for me to drink protein powder every single day. It just isn't.
Half of the recipes feel a little extreme (and also sorta gross, tbh) but maybe my palate is just not as refined as other people's. The other half contains normal, simple ingredients that sound like they could become pretty delicious.
The main idea of this book is great: at every meal you should aim to eat fiber, protein, healthy fat, and greens. That's certainly something I can get behind. Quite a few times, LeVeque brings up recipes and ingredients for "detox" and uses phrases like "earn ____ at the gym..." which I find to be a bit problematic and harder to support (or recommend). This book was a mixed bag; I feel meh about it.
This is a very informative read on how to balance blood sugar. She breaks the science down very well. She gives very detailed information in an easy to understand way. She explains how to use food to properly fuel and nourish our body.
Holistic Nutritionist, whaaaaatttttt? I like her explanations of how food affects your body. I also like her FabFour smoothie ideas. Buuuut, let's face it, we all know we need more vegetables in our life. It's just a matter of making it happen.
I already knew I adored Kelly and all of her wisdom, as I loved her first book Body Love. I don't know why it took me this long to check out Body Love Everyday, but so so glad I did. This book includes more content, more science, and ideas for different lifestyles that anyone can use. Loved it!
Lots of good ideas and healthy recipes but she says that it’s not a diet then says to avoid carbs, fruit, dairy which sounds like a diet to me. The whole book is about smoothies and salads, she offers no alternatives for those who aren’t into either. Her eating plan is entirely unrealistic for someone who isn’t a celebrity, I’ve never seen a lot of the ingredients and the majority is not affordable.
I must admit, that I knly listen to the audiobook, but it was awesome. Kelly tells from her experience and from experience of her clients. Also there are a lot o research and science there. I like the book.
Kelly delivers sound nutrition and lifestyle information in this approachable, engaging, and easy to read book.
I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease 10 years ago and have been dedicated to holistic health and a wellness lifestyle ever since. Even with extensive knowledge of health, Kelly Leveque has filled in some key gaps for me with her various resources.
More than any book I’ve read, this one best sums up the core essentials that are key to balancing and nourishing the body.
Wherever you are coming from on your health journey, I can’t recommend this book enough. The Fab Four framework will truly leave you feeling energized, nourished, and satisfied.
Kelly’s body love approach is one that encourages confidence, flexibility, and long term success. Not only is she incredibly smart, she is genuinely kind and encouraging...what a breath of fresh air in a culture saturated with crash diets and body torture.
I live out Kelly’s framework every day and have truly never felt better. Get this book, equip yourself with valuable knowledge, and adopt what you can as you go at your own pace; your body and mind will thank you!
I first heard Kelly on Rachel Hollis’s podcast a while back. I really liked what I heard but didn’t really have a why for digging in more. Well, as a mom of two littles And a teacher, I found myself always saying “I’m tired” my husband would even joke. I found my why. I remember Rachel saying many times how energized she felt. So I read both of Kelly’s books in a weekend. I was sold.
Her fab 4 approach is so tactical. She gives the science (a little) and then all sorts of information you can use everyday. She gives suggestions, but I don’t feel like it’s a sales pitch.
I changed my lifestyle Sunday (today is Thursday) and I feel full physically. But I feel FULL with my energy! I’ve not said I’m tired in the middle of the day ever since!
The first few chapters on the premise and science were interesting. The meals plans are thorough (if a little frustrating to have to flip back and forth at times) and I like how she includes simple ideas for exercise or relaxation/meditation. I tried a lot of things I wasn’t so sure about (some of those smoothies are interesting) and they were better than I anticipated. On one meal plan I lost 7lbs in 3 weeks. When I picked and chose meals at random I didn’t see as good results. Being in the Midwest, some of the ingredients were hard to source because they were either out of season or not currently stocked/in demand at the two granola stores in town or it was just inconvenient to drive to said stores for the lone handful of special ingredients.N
This book is amazing and now a constant fixture on my kitchen table. Kelly’s approach to food is scientific without being intimidating, lifestyle changing without being focused on restriction, and ultimately simple. In the three weeks I’ve been using Kelly’s Fab 4 method I have strengthened my relationship with food and find I’m relying less on pure “willpower” to make it through a day eating healthy. (Not to mention I’ve shed a few pounds and eat WAY more veggies than ever before.) PLUS Kelly provides a ton of great recipes and realistic advice for things like takeout and vacation and travel. Can’t say enough how much I recommend Body Love Every Day.
If you want to understand the science behind nutrition in a very simple and doable way, Kelly is your girl. Her first book, Body Love, has more in depth descriptions behind her method if you need to start from square one. But this one has a great refresher course with more specific recommendations regarding products, plus helpful nutrition tables and other info. Not to mention lots of recipes. Not planning to implement any of the 21 day plans myself, but I like the recipes in each section and have tried a few already with great success. As her recipes are catered more for 1-2 servings, I think most of them will be used for my personal breakfast and lunch rather than a family meal.
This is part cookbook but also part explanation about what nutrients the body needs and so I actually read this cover to cover. I love the simplicity of basically making sure you are getting protein, fiber, fat, and greens in each meal to make sure you are getting what you need to thrive without counting calories or reaching for processed foods. I am here for all the new salad ideas (and will definitely be making the slow cooker carnitas salad with that cilantro pepita dressing!).
Lots of great nutritional info! Although I consider myself fairly well-informed regarding blood sugar and how the body processes different elements that impact blood sugar, this was the best (easy-to-understand) version I have read. I found her presentation of concepts to be clear and easy to grasp. I appreciated her balanced approach to health and nutrition while personalizing it to certain lifestyles and needs.
The Body Love Everyday is the sequel to Body Love. This book basically builds on the foundation of the previous book. It goes more depth about different lifestyles that you can accumulate with the FAB 4. What I also love about it is that it gives more tips and science behind adopting this lifestyle. Which is another reason I love this book because its not introducing a diet but a lifestyle that will benefit you in the long run.
I read the eBook version and was so inspired that I may be buying the hardcopy to have as a reference in my kitchen. The combination of science and nutrition really landed with me, and the idea isn't difficult: Eat combinations of foods together to feel satisfied longer and to control blood sugar spikes and falls. It's really the concept of "food to fuel your body"; eat whole foods as much as possible.
I just couldn’t get on board with this one. I liked her last book and her mentality of adding protein, veggies, and healthy grains. However, her recipes seemed to all contain far-fetched items that I’ve never heard of or they just didn’t sound appealing to me. I think I’ll stick with her original FabFour smoothie, but not much else from this book.
I love Kelly Leveque and her approach to nutrition. I read her first book as soon as it came out, but was dying for more recipes to implement into my life. This book DEFINITELY has more recipes and I thought was even better than Body Love 1! This book was great because it gave very easy plans to implement. I love me a good step by step nutrition book! Highly recommend!!!!
One of my favorites! It really inspired me and gave me ideas how to improve my diet. The science was very detailed and I loved reading how everything is interconnected. I will definitely get back to it and reread and will purchase the first book as well (already had it as an audio book- which is listened too in 2018).
Another great one from Kelly! This is for those who want more recipes and don’t wanna read too much of the science. But yet it’s still not enough science. The first book is much more technical and this is a more practical and high level version of that + specific suggestions. HIGHLY recommend!
Kelly has written another amazing book! I love the science she incorporates into her application if the Fab Four. I love all the tips she has, as someone who is always on the go and travels for work she makes it inspiring and practical to make nourishing choices in every situation.
I loved Kelly LeVeques first book and her smoothies are my go to breakfast as a result. This book had a lot of repetition from the first and while I don't subscribe to her entire philosophy it was a good refresher on healthy eating with some great new recipes
I’ve read so many health and wellness books and this one truly stands out. Cannot recommend enough. It is applicable to everyone regardless of your situation, packed full of amazing tips and recipes, and helpful science is woven through so you understand the why behind everything.
