Frequently called Kaviarasu (English: King of Poets), Kannadasan was most familiar for his song lyrics in Tamil films and contributed around 5000 lyrics apart from 6000 poems and 232 books,[1] including novels, epics, plays, essays, his most popular being the 10-part religious essay on Hinduism, captioned Arthamulla Indhumatham (English: Meaningful Hindu Religion). He won the Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel Cheraman Kadali in the year 1980 and was the first to receive the National Film Award for Best Lyrics, given in 1969 for the film Kuzhanthaikkaga.

நான் படித்த புத்தகங்களில் மிக வேகமாக பக்கங்கள் திருப்ப பட்டவைகளில் இதுவும் ஒன்று.
தான் செய்த தவறுகளையும் தன்னிடம் இருந்த குறைகளையும் மறைக்க துணியாமல் விமர்சனம் செய்த ஒரு சுயசரிதை. காந்தியின் சுயசரிதைக்கு இதை ஒப்புமையாய் கொள்வதில் தவறு ஏதும் இல்லை.
புத்தகத்தின் தொடக்கத்தில் வனவாசம் பற்றியும், இந்த புத்தகத்தின் அவசியத்தை பற்றி தொடங்கி அவரது காங்கிரஸ் நாட்கள், தமிழ் தேசிய கட்சி, தனது நண்பர்கள், தன் உல்லாசங்கல், அவனது கோபங்கள், இடையிடயே அவன் எழுதிய கவிதைகள், தி.மு.க வின் மேல் அவனுக்கு இருந்த எரிச்சல் பற்றியும் அதற்கு எதிராக காங்கிரஸை வளர்க்க அவன் பட்ட பாடுகள் பற்றியும் விரிவாக கூறுகிறார்.

புத்தக வாசிப்பு ஒரு சுகமான அனுபவம் என நான் உணர்ந்தது கண்ணதாசனின் அரத்தமுள்ள இந்துமதம் என்ற புத்தகத்தை வாசிக்கும் போது தான். பிறகு அவருடைய சேரமான் காதலி என்ற புத்தகத்தை வாசித்தவுடன் அவரது எழுத்தின் மேல் உள்ள ஈர்ப்பு மேலும் அதிகரித்தது. சொல்லப்போனால் பொன்னியின் செல்வனை விட சேரமான் காதலி என்னை மிகவும் ஈர்த்தது. இப்படி இருக்க அவருடைய வனவாசம் மற்றும் மனவாசம் என்ற புத்தகங்களை பற்றி வாலி ஆயிரம் என்ற தொலைக்காட்சி நிகழ்ச்சியில் கிரேசி மோகன் அவர்கள் இதை பற்றி குறிப்பிட்ட போது இதை வாசிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற ஆர்வம் எனக்குள் வந்தது.
2019 ஆம் ஆண்டு நவம்பர் மாதத்தில் ஒரு வார இறுதி விடுமுறையில் நானும் என் மனைவியும் மாமியார் வீட்டில் தங்க வேண்டிய சூழ்நிலையில் புத்தகமின்றி என்னால் இயங்க முடியவில்லை. எப்படியாவது ஒரு புத்தகத்தை வாங்கி வாசிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற வெறியில் ஞாயிற்று கிழமை யான அன்று காலையில் ஆழ்வார்பேட்டை, மைலாப்பூர், வடபழனி என தனியே சுற்றி திரிந்தேன், எங்கும் புத்தகக் கடைகள் தென்படாத போது ஹிக்கின் போதம்ஸ் கடைக்கு அருகே ஒரு புத்தகக் கடை தென்பட்டது. அங்கே நான் வாங்கிய புத்தகங்களில் ஒன்று தான் மனவாசம்.
தனது அரசியல் வாழ்க்கை, தனது பெண் தோழிகளுடான உறவு, பயண கட்டுரைகள் இதற்கிடையில் இவரது பத்திரிக்கை என தனது அனுபவங்களை பகிர முற்பட்டு முடிவடையாமல் நின்ற கட்டுரை தொகுப்பு தான் இது.
திமுக, தமிழ் தேசியக் கட்சி, காங்கிரஸ், ஸ்தாபன காங்கிரஸ், இந்திரா காங்கிரஸ் என தனது கட்சிச் சார்பை காலப்போக்கில் மாற்றிக்கொண்டதையும், அதற்கு கைமாறாக அவருக்கு என்ன கிடைத்தது என்பதையும் தொய்வில்லாமல் நமக்கு தந்திருக்கிறார் கவிஞா் கண்ணதாசன்.

இதையெல்லாம் விட என்னை ஈர்த்தது இந்தத் தொகுப்பில் இருக்கும் இவருடைய பயண கட்டுரைகள் தான்! விமானப் படைவீரர்களை மகிழ்விக்க இவரது தலைமையில் தென்னிந்திய திரைப்படக் கலைஞர்கள் பஞ்சாப் சென்றது , கவிஞரின் மலேசிய பயணம், தாய்லாந்து பயணம் மற்றும் சிங்கப்பூர் பயணம் மிகச் சுவையான பகுதிகள்.
இந்திரா காந்தியின் காங்கிரஸ் பற்றி விரிவாகச் சொன்னாலும் இந்திரா காந்தியின் அவசர கால பிரகடனம் குறித்து எழுத வில்லை என்பது சிறிது ஏமாற்றம் தான்.
இந்த புத்தகத்தில் என்னை ஈர்த்த சில வாசகங்கள்

This is my first review about any book.
This book was written when Kannadasan was not at his good health and is not completed. Manavasam is about his life incidents that took place after he left DMK.
This book is not much good and interesting as Vanavasam which was written way before this book which contains his life incidents from his birth, childhood days, till he left DMK.
Manavasam is a sequel of Vanavasam (his period in DMK).
I always wonder how a person can create more insightful poems and essays of all aspects life - romance, philosophy etc. May be the experience he got in his life was way more, which made him bursts his emotions to create all his works.
I give 4 stars for this book for Kannadasan, always my favorite.

Manavasam, part 2 of vanavasam is another daring attempt from the author in writing some bold incidents and his thoughts. Criticising the leader like Kamaraj in Tamil Nadu, could not imagine right? Author has done that in Manavasam despite having high respect for Kamaraj like Annadurai.
You can simply put it this way Vanavasam is DMK & Kannadasan story while Manavasam is Congress & Kannadasan story. It is unfortunate that he was not alive to complete it.
DK lead by periyaar group made slipper garland to Hindu gods. The reply to that incident from kannadasan was slap on face to DK group.
The foreign tours and author's detailing those events were really enjoyable. It was like a break from reading political kannadasan to adventurous kannadasan. Every reader would surely be left with the feeling that author should have been alive at least to complete his manavasam.

It was sort of repeating events as mentioned in the Vanavasam. However he describes his life history after he left one party which he had a very bad impression about, to a party which he had good impressions about. Overall, politics has played a role in his popularity as an author, in addition to films. As already mentioned by the author, this book is about how not to live a life.

கட்டுப்பாடுகள் அற்ற வாழ்க்கை முறையால் ஒரு தரமுள்ள மேதை அதள பாதாளத்தின் வாயில் கதவுகளை தட்டி வருகிறான். அவன் கொண்ட இறை நம்பிக்கை அந்த மேதைமையை மட்டும் பட்டு விடாமல் காப்பாற்றி விட்டது. இத்தகைய சோகக் கதை தான் இந்த முடிவு பெறாத புத்தகத்தின் பக்கங்களில் எல்லாம் காண முடிகிறது . கண்ணதாசன் யார் என்ற கேள்விக்கு பதில் தருவதை விட கண்ணதாசன் யாராக இருந்திருக்கக் கூடும் என்ற கேள்விக்கு விடை தருகிறது "மனவாசம்".
